I've had pie from First Slice on several occasions, but this was my first time in the new shop. So. Cute. A big improvement on the lonely flower shop that used to sit empty week after week. The staff is friendly and the selection is great. I've had the chocolate mint (super light and refreshing), the chocolate silk (sooo chocolate-y) and the chocolate peanut butter (sinfully rich, this is my fave!). This trip was on a Saturday morning so I opted for a sour cherry hand pie (like a turnover). It was delicious, not too sour but not syrupy sweet either. I savored it and an iced coffee in the shade of the quaint little patio. I hear the cucumber chicken salad is delicious, I'll have to come back soon for lunch. I came to First Slice on the recommendation of Nadene, the owner Of Green Sky (Real cool stuff by the way) and next door neighbor of 1st Slice. The place has a fresh friendly neighborhood feel. I got a few healthy looking vegetarian salad type items to go, and the black bean soup (trying to follow Dr.'s orders on not eating too much meat. They were all really good especially the soup. I have to fess up that you can't go to a pie cafe and NOT get pie. . . right? Well I got a blueberry cheesecake (they had them, and many other varieties, pre-made and frozen-how convenient) for this dinner party. Food is fantastic, atmosphere is "charming", and the guy working was so pleasant and friendly that you wanted to be instant best friends. Pie was, as expected, awesome. My girlfriend and I split the Red Wine Poached Pear pie (or some combination of those words). Amazing. 1 star deducted because it was a warm day and it was even warmer inside. My first visit to this shop was last week and I was jonesing for pie. We selected the french silk pie, the cherry pie slice and a small blueberry/peach pie with a crumb topping. The chocolate french silk pie saved the day (and saved this review from one star), while the fruit pie selections were just awful. Half of the fillings of the fruit pies were fruit, but the remainder was comprised of that nasty, tasteless gelatin/cornstarch thickener. The cherry pie had a great tart flavor but the blueberry/peach had none whatsoever. Most of the solid reviews I've read were of the non-fruit pies, and I commend them on those, but stay away from the fruit pies. Sadly submitted. read more

Great food, ok service. Nice ambiance. We came in to meet a friend on a Sunday afternoon. It wasn't crowded, and we immediately liked the atmosphere. We ordered our savory food at the counter and a friendly guy helped us. Everything came out quickly and was delicious. Our friend had requested no onion or sundried tomato on his sandwich, and both were there. He very politely requested a new one, and they very politely obliged and apologized for the error. They brought him a new one very quickly. After that, we all had pie. I had a slice of the chocolate cream from a new pie that hadn't been sliced yet. As soon as I took a bite, I realized it was still totally frozen. I gave it back and asked for coffee toffee instead, because that pie had been in the cooler for a while so I thought it was more likely to be defrosted. They were super nice about it and even gave me the chocolate cream to go for no extra charge. The other woman who helped us was not as friendly, but that's nbd, and I know service can be rough so I empathize. Overall, they handled the hiccups very well and the food was delicious. Delicious pie but too expensive for the quality and cheap ingredients. I wish they offered a sampler pie since I usually get the minis which are almost as expensive as a full size. I tried their "infamous" apple pie recently and it was probably the worst apple pie let alone the hair I found baked in the crust. You would think the bakers at least wear hair nets. The pie itself lacked flavor and didn't taste fresh, I don't understand the hype over it. read more

I love this place. Obviously, they are a pie place as evidenced by the giant slice of pie on top of their door, but they also have very good food! I love to stop by and get several slices of pie and a nice light dinner. I have never had anything that tasted less than perfect from this place. Maybe I frequent more cozy cafes, but I like going to ones with comfy couches, a warm atmosphere, decor, etc. First Slice still felt nice. It's on the smaller size, but it gets pretty decent traffic of people coming in and out, and people sitting and working. My boyfriend and I really enjoy coming to Andersonville and decided to come here after dinner to grab some dessert and to read before heading home. Took me a while to review this place (been coming here on and off for years). The pies are generally pretty good (blueberry is my favorite along with the key lime pie). The 3 stars are due to the general "dingy" feel inside the place- counters and tables do not seem to get completely cleaned and cleared a whole lot (not looking for fancy furniture..just clean). I understand they're expanding so maybe that'll be fixed. I've always wanted to try out their savory stuff (salads and other deli type items) but frankly it's not that pleasant of a place to be in- I just get my pie and go. read more

Have to admit I didn't expect much from the food at a pie place, but it's actually pretty solid. Good selection of salads and sandwiches. Nice portions, not to huge, just the right amount for a good meal. The Beef Barbacoa is my personal favorite. The staff is always friendly and pleasant, make great beverages and have help tips on what to have when I go in. I can't say anything more about the pie that hasn't already been said. It's delicious. My only issue is I feel like the menu doesn't change enough, if at all, and they don't seem to offer many off-menu specials. It's a small issue, but if you go often it can get repetitive. read more

I just happened to see this place and decided I needed to eat lunch... as I was stopped at the stoplight on this intersection. I got the chicken curry sandwich to go. It was pretty cheap, considering you get a mixed greens salad and a bag of chips. The sandwich was quite tasty; the curry was not over powering and the various veggies/ fruit mixed in complimented each other. The only thing that I am not thrilled about was the greens; they were a little bitter for this time of year, but I still ate them. Good place; next time I will have to try some pie! read more

Nice loose leaf tea collection as well as coffee and they were playing jazz, a nice touch. There are so many reasons to love First Slice. Not only do they have plenty of delicious lunch foods and pie options, there is also good coffee and a ton of space to sit. There's even a breezy back porch - I don't have one at home, so this is wonderful to me. They have books you can read if you didn't bring your own. They consistently give back to the community and those who are at risk of not having enough to eat. So in spending your money there, you are also helping. Apple pie is very yummy. The apple slices are layered very carefully. The pie itself is also not too sweet unlike apple pie at Costco for example. Key lime is also good. The Tabasco Cream Pie was absolutely the best sweet pie I've ever had. My husband is from Tennessee, so pie is a big deal in our home, and we usually go up to Evanston for pies. Pie is of similar quality to Hoosier Mama, though I give HM the edge overall...their pies are taller and the slices wider, just more pie and a better deal. Main issue with First Slice is the size of the slice...sometimes it feels appropriate, other times it's kind of dinky. Once I got a slice of French Silk, but the one they gave me was notably smaller (by 20-30%) than the slices in the case. I didn't say anything but felt a little resentful. It happened again recently, and I actually asked them "Can I have a slice more like that one [in the case]? This looks really small." They honored this request without a fuss but, come on, use a template to slice your pies so pieces are the same size. read more

I was really looking forward to trying the pie out today... the counterperson was very friendly! Then when I saw the yummy looking pies in the deli glass I picked two... Then my nice counter guy picked two sad tiny pieces out of the upright fridge... (was it me or both plastic containers together felt extremely "light". I got back to the car and popped open the cherry pie to taste pretty good filling and slightly dry crust..(perhaps from being entombed in its sad slice plastic sarcophagus). All in all, was "ok" but definitely have had better Cherry pie. For 10 bucks for two slices... you better be some REALLY good, non-hobbit sized slices of pie. As an aside note... a friend turned me on to the Cherry pie from Patti Labelle..(store bought???) it was insanely good and universally liked... First slice might want to step up its game for a $5 slice. :) read more
