Have an old house with very well established ant colonies in clay soil. I fought them for many years until they became immune to ALL poisons. One star for poor communication and customer service. For weeks now, our family has been getting eaten alive by some unidentified insect or critter. All three of us are absolutely covered with terribly itchy bites. We called First Select Pest Control to investigate. They identified tropical rat mites, outlined a treatment plan (aerosols in the sub space plus diatomaceous earth in electrical wall sockets, in addition to a possible carpet treatment), and they scheduled treatment for the following week. However, the following week, they reversed their decision and decided not to treat, after all. Although I understood the general explanation, that they cannot guarantee results without eliminating the underlying cause (rats, which they were unable to find; we live in a row of attached townhouses, which means the rats could be in or around someone else's unit), I was disappointed because they went back on their original word to do the treatment. Our family continues to be at the mercy of these horrible, biting arthropods. Instead of treating, Dominic left a number of sticky mite monitors around our house and said he'd return in two days to check. Two days later, I hadn't heard from him, so I called to ask when he planned to return. Surprisingly, Dominic informed me he wasn't planning to return -- unless I checked the monitors myself and found mites. I said I could certainly check, but that's not what he'd advised two days earlier. We hung up, and I went into a meeting for work. An hour later, my doorbell rang; it was Dominic and his assistant Will. I was not at all prepared for them to drop by (they had called, but I had missed their message since I was in a meeting). Dominic did not find anything on the sticky monitors that day, but he asked me to let him know if I found anything in the coming days.  He wanted to be able to positively identify the mites (I found this confusing because the initial inspection report confirmed that he'd already done so via photos). Over the next week, I emailed Dominic several times to let him know we'd captured many mites on the monitors. He didn't reply to my first couple of messages. Finally, after the third message, he replied to indicate that he'd already done enough for us: "Thanks again for reaching out to us here at First Select Pest Control. We have visited your residence on several occasions and have provided you with ample information concerning mites..." When I expressed confusion, reminding him that he'd asked me to let him know if we found mites on the monitors so that he could see them, he asked me to stop emailing First Select Pest Control. He said I could call him if I wished to discuss, but that he thought there was nothing more he could do. Again, I understand that the best treatment is locating and eradicating the underlying problem: the rats. But First Select initially offered a treatment that promised to offer at least some temporary relief to our family from the biting mites. The fact that they said they would treat, then reversed their decision, and then communicated so poorly regarding the sticky mite monitors, eventually refusing to even look at the mites we've captured, is the basis for my one-star review. In the meantime, our family continues to be eaten alive, with no relief in sight. read more

We had ants coming inside the house and we hired First Select Pest Control for treatment of this issue. While Dominic is a nice guy and sweet talker, his treatment services are not effective at all. In less than 6 months after the treatment the ants were back in the house and upon calling they wanted us to start a service plan where they would treat this every other month. A few years ago we had hired another company for the same service and we did not see any ants in the house for about 4 years. First Select Pest Control was the only business to actually respond (I messaged via Yelp) even during the late hours when my bug fears are at its peak. I requested a quote over 2 weeks ago. I spoke to a lady and was told to send pictures of the bugs so I did that via email as instructed. Nobody responded to my email and it's been a week. I decided to call today and was informed that they are too busy and are NOT taking new clients. To top it off they also informed me that they do not service the area where I live even though I had told the prior lady who answered the phone my location and she said that they do service that city. I had been putting off hiring an exterminator because I thought it would be too expensive but First Select was reasonably priced and I saw results immediately. We were overrun with ants and earwigs and after two treatments the ants decreased significantly and the earwigs disappeared altogether after I followed some of Dominic's additional advice. We decided to get ongoing service to stay on top of it and it's worth every penny. We have a feral cat colony that lives in our backyard and wanted to make sure they wouldn't be harmed by the products but Dominic assured me that the products they use are natural/nontoxic to people and animals.
