Shock and Awe! We have been in our home for over 17 years and had been noticing air and heat and noise coming through our two largest windows in our home. We are quite a ways from 1604 yet we could hear the traffic pretty well. Day and night! So we started the process of shopping around for replacement windows last year and interviewed many vendors. we were quoted and listened to many sales people about their products and installations. We narrowed it down to three vendors and brought the sales people back in for a final presentation and quote. Larry Bindel, the owner of First Place Windows, was not only the most thorough but he was also the nicest guy we talked with and he delivered a professional quote. His price was not the lowest but my wife and I liked him and his delivery and we spoke w a few of his customers. We believed and had it proven that Larry really loves his customers and does right by them. Our windows came in when he said they would and the windows were installed from 1:30-6:30 the afternoon we set up. His installers, 2 guys, worked in the heat and did a great job. They laid plastic over everything nearby before they started and then cut the two large windows out and replaced the old with the new. They caulked around the new windows and cleaned up the mess and left. Larry and his son were there also to oversee the job being done. The new windows let no heat in and we cannot even hear our water fountain against the window. The difference is incredible! Silence is golden. Lol. Plus the windows that Larry installs have a much lower bottom window than the other windows we looked at. We liked this because u can see much more. I believe like 85% more. UPDATE on my review of First Place Windows' presentation and ordering process: We have since had our old windows removed and new windows installed! We were a little nervous because it was August in San Antonio and it was HOT HOT HOT outside! However, as SOON as they removed an old window, the new window was popped right in, even though it wasn't caulked in or fastened yet. We had surprisingly little heat get in. Our A/C didn't even have to work overtime! As for the expected mess, there was NONE! They not only covered everything in the immediate area with plastic, but they also shut the door of that room to lessen any dirt (or heat in our case) to get anywhere else! When they were finished, they cleaned up and vacuumed! The new windows are GORGEOUS! SO easy to open and close and with the "double hung" windows on the 2nd floor, I can easily open them and tilt them in to clean them! No more dirty second floor windows! Yeah! Also, you have plenty of options for your windows. In the photos below, you will see we changed some to sliders, the bathroom (before pic not so great but picture it with clear glass and panes so everyone can see inside!) The picture with the two closet windows really made me appreciate the new ones. We get the afternoon sun in those windows and the old one on the left (WITH solar screens) was hot to the touch, where the new one (withOUT solar screens) was cool to the touch! Plus the UV blockers keep your furniture and bedding from fading! The two installers were SO nice and friendly and SO professional! They hardly had to talk to each other; they have worked together so long that they knew what each had to do with each window placement. Kind of like a window-installation ballet if you will! I have an older (not well insulated) 2 story that sits east to west. We get sun ALL DAY LONG! We have a large window at the top that does nothing but make my stairway an oven. I cannot begin to tell you what a difference my new windows have made. We are currently remodeling (Larry did my siding too) and this has been the best decision EVER! People stop and say how beautiful the house looks and they LOVE the windows. Did I mention I had the ugliest house on the block? Not any more!!! All I can say is, before we got windows, our home was freezing in the winter, and HOT in the summer- no matter how long our AC was on. After meeting Larry- he gave us two options- one more affordable, and the highest level insulated windows- best class. to my surprise my husband blurted out that we would get the best ones. I reluctanlty agreed- but I am SO GLAD we did! Our home is temperature regulated now, and is extremely cool in the summers, and nice and warm in the winters. Our windows no longer "leak" through and we LOVE them! It took a few days to complete all our windows, but it was worth the wait! Larry left my house yelling and insulting me. I invited Larry over for a free estimate. We sat outside at the back of his pickup truck for an hour while I listened to his sales pitch mostly centered around how the Cardinal IGU in his windows make the window 100x more reliable. I told Larry multiple times that I don't really care as much about the window, as much as I care about the quality of the install. While outside, he told me that his installers work for him. When we finally went inside, I thought this would be my opportunity to ask questions. Unfortunately, in less than 15 min, Larry interrupted me to tell me that he doesn't have time for all 25 of my questions (he could see they were prepared on my notepad), and that he would rather go spend his time with someone who likes his product and is ready to buy. I pushed his business card toward him and told him that I was done 'wasting' his time, and that he could leave. On the way out I informed him that I was going to write him a bad review. To this, he exploded with anger and started raising his voice at me, and insulting me. He went so far as to call me a bad Christian. He accused me of slander. I questioned his understanding of the meaning of slander and informed him that I would in no way exaggerate the truth or lie about the events that transpired. After several minutes I asked him to leave my house. I tried to explain to him that after I patiently entertained his 1hr sales pitch, I thought it was discourteous to give me no more than 15 min to ask questions. He replied by stating that I was the one that was rude and other things. I just shook my head and let him walk away. Larry needs to learn to build rapport with his potential customers by listening to what they are concerned about most. At one point while inside, attempting to ask my questions, I had to listen to Larry give me his life story of growing up -- picking cotton at age 6, then construction with his brother, etc. Who wants to hear that and what did that have to do with anything? From my perspective, if Larry doesn't have 15 minutes to 'waste' on my questions and concerns, I can't imagine he is going to have any time to 'waste' of follow-ups once the final check is cashed. read more

We have had a great deal of remodeling done in the last three years by a variety of contractors. We had 26 windows (some custom installs), three external doors, converted another to a double doors and converted three windows into a double sliding door unit. Can not recommend. Larry arrived to give us a free estimate to replace 27 windows in our home that we just purchased in New Braunfels. He spent almost 40 minutes educating us on the different types of windows and why we should choose him compared to others. After that he very diligently measured each window three times and told us he would get us a quote. That was THREE WEEKS ago and we have never heard from Larry again. Crickets. We live in a stucco house and we have since been told by other window professionals that it is going to be very difficult to replace our windows. Would have loved to have this company come do a window replacement for me, but was cut off in the middle of my sentence when I had barely gotten the words out of needing someone to come out. I was asked if the window was broken, then told how people frequently confuse them for glass replacement and that 'they are not a glass company, they are a window replacement company'. We had Larry and his helper replace the bedroom windows in our house this past weekend. They did such a great job. They did everything they promised and left the areas around the windows nice and clean. We were originally going to purchase the windows from a company in Austin and then pay a separate contractor to install them. However, we chose to go with Larry after he came out and measured and made recommendations that we wouldn't have gotten just by purchasing the windows by ourselves. I'm sure glad we went with Larry. We obviously spent a little more (but cheaper than other companies that quoted us) but my husband was really worried about not measuring right so it was nice to have the peace of mind of someone professionally doing it. We could only afford to do the bedroom windows, but the first night with the new windows has to have been the best night's sleep I've gotten in a long time (our house backs up to a major road, is within a mile of a railroad, and lies underneath a path the planes take to the airport). Larry (owner), Brent & Steve replaced all 16 windows in our house this week. I found Larry's company, 1st Place Windows, on yelp. I emailed for an appointment, and even though he was out of the country, Larry called me and we set up an appointment. He brought examples of the various windows he had to offer and discussed with us our options. The windows he would be replacing were the original windows from the early 70s. As I sit here writing this review, I'm realizing just how quiet things are now. Not to mention how full of natural light my house is! Anyway, after choosing the type of windows we wanted, Larry came out and measured, then ordered the windows. We paid half down and I'll be paying him the rest today (because I'm completely satisfied with the work they did). Once the windows came in, we set a date for them to get started. They started on time and will be finished with the last bit of clean up today. We've had windows replaced on a house in Houston and one in New Braunfels - I wish I had found him sooner. I had Larry and his team of professionals replace nearly all of the old, fogged-up Allenco aluminum windows in my house with new, double-pane double-hung vinyl windows three years ago. The one set of windows I did not have them replace was a group of three fairly new Pella crank-out casement windows. The paint started peeling off in between the panes on the not-very-old Pellas, and they no longer operated correctly, so I recently had First Place replace the three Pella casements with their own Vista vinyl casements. All my vinyl windows are beautiful, they keep noise out, are very energy efficient, and I know I'll never have to paint them or worry about rot. Plus, they come with a great warranty against fogging. After doing months of research and getting multiple bids from the "big box" window replacement companies, Larry was able to find the right solutions for the unique installation requirements we had in our stucco home. The big difference here was he listened to our concerns and was able to come up with several options from different window manufacturers. This is because he is not married to one window company. Bottom line is he worked with us to get the perfect results we were seeking when other companies came up short. In addition, because he was there personally for the removal and installation of the windows, the quality showed as he does not cut corners. We are very pleased with the finished product. I received several estimates from other highly reviewed contractors prior to speaking with Larry and he was not only the most reasonably priced, but I could tell he was much more knowledgeable than the salespeople I had spoken to before calling him. He didn't try to upsell me on any products or services, he just provided the options and I chose what worked best for me. His crew led by Teddy worked carefully and efficiently getting the job done in a day and a half. Follow up service is great as well. About a month later I had a question and asked Larry if he could come by to look at it and as he was available he was at my house less than half an hour later.
