The camp used to be good but there is a complete lack of discipline this year. There is a lack of oversight from the camp staff, and group of kids were bullying others on an ongoing basis. At one point, the kids were fighting with one another with rocks. Even after being spoken to, the kids were allowed to retaliate further by urinating right next to another group of kids who were eating snacks. This was acceptable behavior. The camp counselors were also allowed to jump on their bikes over the kids heads. Again, this was seen to be acceptable. We will not be returning to this camp. read more

I've been with them for over 3 years now, and the entire crew (Carey, Matt, Dave) continued to impress me with what they do and how they do it! I take all of my family's bikes to them for service. Most recently I bought a used road bike, and they've basically turned it into a fantastic, fast and smooth riding machine by replacing bearings, installed tubeless tires, adjusted brakes, replaced the handlebars to my specs... all so that I can ride like a bat out of hell! Thank you guys for all that work! read more

These guys are great! I used to do business with a big name brand in the area but switched to First Mile a couple years ago and never looked back. I take my Santa Cruz and Specialized bikes there for service. I trust their mechanics more they have better customer service, AND their prices are competitive. They are a small business adding a ton of value for the community with not just the shop but all kinds of cool events. Support them! read more

Excellent store - specifically in regards to their rental E-Mountain bikes. I just rented a basically brand new Specialized Levo 4, and had a blast with it over the weekend. TBH, I am a bit shocked that it is possible to rent such high end bikes for such a decent price, 10 minutes from my home. This type of bike is new to me, and the guys at checkout and return were both incredibly helpful in explaining everything. read more

Carey and the First Mile crew are always a pleasure to work with. I had a warranty claim for my Turbo Levo and they had everything diagnosed and submitted within a few hours! Plus I highly recommend joining them for their weekly shop rides! It's awesome to have a local shop that is always engaging with the community whether it's with their rider clinics, shop rides or doing trail advocacy and Dig Days with local programs like The Stewards of Briones or the Mt. Diablo Trail Alliance!! Thank you FM crew! read more

Excellent service and selection. Javier and company helped me replace my 16yo Hoo Koo E Koo with the Specialized Fuse Sport I had been contemplating for some time. After drawn out soul-searching, it became clear that the top-specced carbon fiber hard tail chariot I envisioned ripping through the Headlands was a pipe dream [$$$$] that I couldn't honestly justify. I shot over from Livermore on a late Friday afternoon to check out the Fuse and left with what I came for. Right bike, right place, right time, and right price. We were also on the lookout for a bike for my son and they happened to have the ride that fit the bill. So, two weeks later, we are back at the shop picking up my boy's new bike. First bike with gears so he's getting familiarized with it and is having a blast! This bike is a gift from my dad. Gracias Abuelito! I invited my wife to join us for the trip to pick up my son's bike. We asked about bike sizing for my wife and we placed an order for her bike later that day which will be delivered soon for pick up. She wasn't expecting this. Happy Valentine's Day! Bikes that fit our purpose and budget plus attentive service - they got it. mic drop. I'm out. read more

DON'T USE THEIR REPAIR SERVICES. Poor repair work and dishonesty. The next day after picking-up my bike I discovered the tire new tire they installed was flat. I returned the bike so they could fix it a second time. Then they charged me for a tube that they damaged while fixing my bike, even after promising not to charge unless it was punctured. RE: More lies. Yes, you fixed the flat on the front wheel thank you for that. Although the flat fix wasn't the only work you did. You ALSO installed a new tire on the back. Your repair shop damaged the tube in the process. You insisted on charging me for your mistake after you emailed me saying, "If it turns out that anything we did or installed was defective, there will be no charge for the repair." It's not an "honorable solution" when you argue with the customer, lie, and go back on your word. read more

My hubby and I just went to First Mile to buy a new family bike to pedal around town. We're not super knowledgeable on bikes and were very happy with the help and service we got from the crew at FM. Riley helped us and was quickly able to identify a few options within our price point and then we were out test riding bikes in the parking lot. He was obviously very knowledgeable on bikes and at no point did we feel pressured into a sale. Riley was more focused on making sure we got the right bike for us. He even followed up with me afterward on questions about a bike seat for our toddler. All so so helpful. Both Riley and Carey (the owner) are very friendly and nice, which made coming into the shop as bike rookies a lot less intimidating. We're loving our new bicycle and will definitely be back to First Mile. Thank you! read more

Exceptional Service and Expertise. One walks into First Mile Cycle Works for the first time as a stranger and returns as a friend, part of the FMCW cycling community. Every time my road bike needs service or repair, I am happy to know that Matt, Carey and the crew are close by and ready to help swiftly and expertly, to ensure I don't miss out on my next planned ride. I always walk out their door with a finely tuned bike and an extra bit of maintenance knowledge, they are happy to impart. I highly recommend them! read more

Just got my bike back today and have to give a huge shout out to Matt and the folks at First Mile Cycle Works. Matt did a beautiful job updating my bike to electric shifting and sprucing up the bike with new headset bearings and a really clean bar tape wrap- the bike looks and feels brand new. The biggest part of this experience was that I ordered a rear cassette that didn't quite shift properly and they returned it and credited me the difference off the labor costs. They really put their customers first. Support your LBS, and thank you again First Mile Cycle Works! Marc- read more

There's a reason these guys get such great reviews because this is an awesome Bike shop! Everyone here is really nice and the mechanics are super knowledgeable and the turnaround on bike repairs is usually just one to two days which is awesome but I don't have to be sitting waiting on Repair! Super glad I found them and I am a very regular customer now. read more

First Mile Cycle Works - Sending it on one of the bikes they keep in tiptop shape for me! - Bikes Near Me - Lafayette, California

I randomly called because I had an e-motorcross tire that I needed the tube replaced. The auto tire shop wouldn't help. Carey suggested I bring the tire in and he would let me know if they can help me. It was a little difficult since the tire was very stiff but they were able to replace the tube. I appreciate Carey going out of his way to help me out. I would definitely recommend his shop to anyone looking for friendly people and quality service. read more

This is the best LBS (local bike shop) anyone could ask for. Having them open here in Lafayette has been a godsend. They turn repairs quickly, sell an ideal range of bikes, and answer questions without attitude. Trust me, these guys COULD have an attitude; they have tons of experience and are all rad riders themselves. But they are friendly, from kids to adults, novices to pros, and so on. Do yourself a favor and stop by when you are in the area. read more

These guys are great! Quality device done timely and at fair rates. I have had them replace tires on my fat tire ebike few times and always exceeded expectations. Yesterday I took bike in for brake pads and they had it done before my ride showed to drive me home. Amazing! read more

I'm just getting into mountain biking. So I rented a Commencal TR 29 from First Mile to test it out. The rental bike was excellent. And the guys at First Mile talked with me after the ride to hear my feedback. We spoke about fit and components. It was so helpful! I'm no expert, and they helped me quickly learn what I needed to know to pick the model to purchase. So, I just ordered a bike with First Mile. They made the decision process easy and fun. And they will assemble the bike for me. I might try out some of their weekly events for local riders to learn more as I get going. read more

Carey, Josh, and Dave are very helpful, knowledgeable and just downright real dudes with no attitude. What more could you want from a bike shop? This is a top-quality bike shop. I needed a software update for my Specialized e-bike and found First Mile on the manufacturer's website. Carey and Dave could not have been nicer, doing the work while I waited (at Starbucks across the street). These guys followed their passion for biking and went into business together and opened this store. They are warm and friendly, and their enthusiasm shows. They sell only the highest quality bikes, and they have a great selection of biking accessories. I highly recommend First Mile! read more

This shop was opened and is operated by guys who love bikes and know their stuff. Many shops in the area have lost the customer service aspect of the business. This place gets it! Great service in a fraction of the time, appreciation of their customers and get the work done with excellence! For those like me that were fed up with feeling like the shop was doing me a favor to hold my bike for a week or two and then shelling out hundreds... Check this place out and you'll never go anywhere else! read more

I went in the morning after my call - true in fact they put my bike on the stand for a quick look-see. The deal was if it were something quick they might fix and get it out right away. My problem turned out to be a misplaced cable sleeve - the tech relocated it and I was good to go. Another tech came over and called the staff's attention to the vintage nature of my bike - a 1996 Klein Attitude Race - he even knew and appreciated the parallelogram brake on the back in contrast to the regular side-pull front. Anyway, the message was - we know you and we see you. Will I be back - am actually looking for an excuse. Will I tell others? You bet. read more

Recently received top notch service. These guys are real pros, honest, fair, high-quality and do great work. Highly recommend!

First Mile helped me last week and installed a new set of brakes on my bike. Casey and Josh were great to work with, friendly, communicated well and got the work done in the stated time frame for a fair price. They're a newer bike shop and had a great selection of gear and are one if not the only shop showcasing Commencal bikes. Great shop I'll be returning too. read more

Great service from Carey. First he helped me pick out a great road shoe, then when I mentioned that I was having trouble finding cleats that work with my pedals, he spent half an hour researching the right cleat, He really went above and beyond. Best shop around. Hands down. Have had a few bikes in for repairs that have been turned around within a day unless we have to order a special part and even that was a few days. I cannot recommend them more, and I grew up in bike shops! read more

Such a great shop! I ride my bike a lot and seem to break it just as much, but I have two left thumbs when it comes to a wrench. The First Mile crew have been outstanding and fast in getting my ride serviced and ready to hit dirt, even when I need some special parts. Super friendly and you don't feel like you're bothering a rude bike guy behind a counter if you don't know what you're talking about. Sick display of Commencal and Marin bikes too! read more

There is nothing more refreshing than a new bike shop, especially in a geography that has a lot of 'old guard' shops that treat new customers like crap. The COVID bike craze, followed by these well publicized supply chain issues, have made the old East Bay shops complacent - they just don't try hard anymore. Its now typical to hear that a $150 wheel repair will take them three months, which is just not tenable for a passionate biker without a quiver of backup bikes. The two incumbent shops in our town will also treat you like shit if you show up with a cheaper bike and just tell you that you should buy a new Trek. The guys at First Mile are hungry entrepreneurs and passionate bikers who will run through a wall for you ( and they won't judge you for need a repair to your Schwinn). And FWIW, they're located 200 yards off highway 24, so probably the most conveniently located shop in the 24/680 corridor! read more
