Excellent store - specifically in regards to their rental E-Mountain bikes. I just rented a basically brand new Specialized Levo 4, and had a blast with it over the weekend. TBH, I am a bit shocked that it is possible to rent such high end bikes for such a decent price, 10 minutes from my home. Excellent service and selection. Javier and company helped me replace my 16yo Hoo Koo E Koo with the Specialized Fuse Sport I had been contemplating for some time. After drawn out soul-searching, it became clear that the top-specced carbon fiber hard tail chariot I envisioned ripping through the Headlands was a pipe dream [$$$$] that I couldn't honestly justify. I shot over from Livermore on a late Friday afternoon to check out the Fuse and left with what I came for. Right bike, right place, right time, and right price. DON'T USE THEIR REPAIR SERVICES. Poor repair work and dishonesty. The next day after picking-up my bike I discovered the tire new tire they installed was flat. I returned the bike so they could fix it a second time. Then they charged me for a tube that they damaged while fixing my bike, even after promising not to charge unless it was punctured. RE: More lies. Yes, you fixed the flat on the front wheel thank you for that. Although the flat fix wasn't the only work you did. You ALSO installed a new tire on the back. Your repair shop damaged the tube in the process. You insisted on charging me for your mistake after you emailed me saying, "If it turns out that anything we did or installed was defective, there will be no charge for the repair." It's not an "honorable solution" when you argue with the customer, lie, and go back on your word. read more

Riley helped us and was quickly able to identify a few options within our price point and then we were out test riding bikes in the parking lot. He was obviously very knowledgeable on bikes and at no point did we feel pressured into a sale. Riley was more focused on making sure we got the right bike for us. He even followed up with me afterward on questions about a bike seat for our toddler. All so so helpful. Just got my bike back today and have to give a huge shout out to Matt and the folks at First Mile Cycle Works. Matt did a beautiful job updating my bike to electric shifting and sprucing up the bike with new headset bearings and a really clean bar tape wrap- the bike looks and feels brand new. The biggest part of this experience was that I ordered a rear cassette that didn't quite shift properly and they returned it and credited me the difference off the labor costs. I went in the morning after my call - true in fact they put my bike on the stand for a quick look-see. The deal was if it were something quick they might fix and get it out right away. My problem turned out to be a misplaced cable sleeve - the tech relocated it and I was good to go. Another tech came over and called the staff's attention to the vintage nature of my bike - a 1996 Klein Attitude Race - he even knew and appreciated the parallelogram brake on the back in contrast to the regular side-pull front. There is nothing more refreshing than a new bike shop, especially in a geography that has a lot of 'old guard' shops that treat new customers like crap. The COVID bike craze, followed by these well publicized supply chain issues, have made the old East Bay shops complacent - they just don't try hard anymore. Its now typical to hear that a $150 wheel repair will take them three months, which is just not tenable for a passionate biker without a quiver of backup bikes. The two incumbent shops in our town will also treat you like shit if you show up with a cheaper bike and just tell you that you should buy a new Trek. The guys at First Mile are hungry entrepreneurs and passionate bikers who will run through a wall for you ( and they won't judge you for need a repair to your Schwinn). And FWIW, they're located 200 yards off highway 24, so probably the most conveniently located shop in the 24/680 corridor! read more
