Avoid this shop. My mother brought her scooter in for Tektro brake service -- a brake bleed and caliper replacement that was supposed to be handled under manufacturer warranty (and was paid for by the mfg). Sharp completed the repair and returned the scooter. Within a week, the brakes were failing again. The system clearly had not been bled properly the first time. We brought the scooter back expecting them to correct their own mistake. Instead, when we came to pick it up, they demanded another $150 to finish the repair they failed to do correctly the first time. No phone call. No estimate. No authorization. Just a bill presented at pickup for fixing their own workmanship. For context, I'm not someone who doesn't understand how bike service works. I ran a bike repair shop for 6 years,raced professionally, and bleeding brakes is basic service work. When a shop does a repair incorrectly and the brakes fail within days, a reputable shop fixes the problem. They don't try to charge the customer again. After talking with others in the industry, this experience unfortunately lines up with the shop's reputation. The owner has reportedly lost the ability to carry certain brands over the years because of issues like this. After dealing with them firsthand, that doesn't surprise me. If you want a shop that stands behind its work, communicates before charging you, and doesn't try to bill you for fixing their own mistakes, look somewhere else. read more

I'm not coming back again after the last talk I had with the staff. My Ebike started having loud braking problems while coming to a full stop. Since this bike shop happens to be close by, I walked it on down to have them inspect and or repair the brakes if necessary. After a few minutes discussing the brake problem, the lead technician informed me he will not be taking the bike in due to the Ebike potentially being falsely labeled UL certified. I did not have the keys at the time I walked in to remove the battery. He said too to come back another time when the battery wasn't inside. I've been to other bike shops for similar reasons and not once did they bring this issue up on any other occasion. After doing a brief deep dive into UL's website, I did find the electrical components (Bafang) to GoTrax's Ebike to be indeed accredited. Turning a customer away without attempting to verify the bike's safety isn't good customer service. I personally would never do that to a potential willing to pay customer. Buyer beware, don't come here. read more

Worst experience ever! Bought a new Electra Loft this past week end. Spent $1000. Got $40 off for as case of wine. The VERY next day went pack with a bicycle spoke issue that came apart they fixed it charged me $35. on fair enough, they could have done it at no cost considering what I spent and it was the next day, and the wheel/tire was already removed from the bike for convenience. It wasn't until today I realized what a bunch of greedy self absorbed people I was dealing with. I had called to ask a question about ordering Electra parts for an older model and the guy had the nerve to tell me that he would charge me a fee for looking up the parts that he was going to sell me. What a bunch of clowns. take your business elsewhere. There's an Electra dealer in Danville (495 Hartz Ave, Danville, CA 94526), much friendlier with a larger selection of bikes and parts. don't risk getting RIPPED OFF by this sad ARROGANT outfit. read more

Sharp Bicycle was very generous in helping me out today. Earlier this week while biking with my kids, I heard a sound as if something fell off the bike. The reflector on the rear wheel of my Specialized MTB had fallen off, and I saw that the plastic screw or clamp in the middle had fallen off somewhere during the ride. It didn't make sense for me to buy a whole new pair (and they don't sell just one reflector) and no one sells just this screw/clamp. I didn't want to remove the wheel reflectors too since there's some safety factor why they're there to begin with. I called several bike shops around me earlier this week and even visited one other shop, but none seems interested to look for a spare or unused piece that I can purchase from or they can offload. Today while buying lunch in downtown Lafayette, I decided to give Sharp a call to ask. A nice gentleman said to drop by and let him see what he can do. I'm an avid cyclist, well versed in what's available in the market, was a bicycle mechanic in college and also taught bicycle safety classes. I've occasionally frequented this store for small items and had no issues. What I don't understand is why, in the only two times I was searching for a new bike, I've been treated in such an arrogant and condescending manner. Both times, I went in and gave them a history of what I was currently riding and the general attributes of what I was looking for. Both times they proceeded to talk down to me, and both times I just walked out of the store. BTW, these incidents were four years apart and both times I purchased $5,000-$7,000 bicycles elsewhere. Do not take your bike here if you need something simple done to it. I asked them to replace 1 thing, and they did extra work on my bike that I did not request. I wanted 1 chainring replaced, and they took the liberty of removing my "extra" (and useless) chainring which was completely unnecessary and COSTLY. They charge $100/hr for labor, on a $12 replacement part that was an EASY install. I'll never go here again. read more

I went into the store today to ask about possible adjustments and/or changes to one of my bikes (that I purchased at another bike shop 30 miles away) to reduce the strain on my wrists. After looking at my bike, they immediately suggested that I adjust the forward angle of the seat. And then we talked about other ways to make riding safer and more comfortable as we get older. I want to support local shops, but after four visits, 1 pre Covid, 3 post, I have got to say, the folks are just plain rude. I went looking through their other reviews, and I see it's a common complaint. I also see the owner say how sorry and to come back again. How many times do I need to come in until I get in the "treat me nice" club? On two of the four trips, I spent over $100. Nobody offered help, asked if I had any questions, or even acknowledged me. The last (and I mean LAST time I'll go in the store) time, I stood at the cash register while a man was doing busy work. I finally asked where I might pay. He was irritated and told me he'd take me on the other register. He took my payment and I was ushered away. It was about a month and a half after I got my Beach cruiser and I took it in today and had them give me a free tube up which includes washing my bike, adjusted brakes and shifter cables, after waiting about an hour I came back to see that it was done and they told me not to takeoff a washer which I've never used on other bikes and I've been fine without it after I rode with the bike I noticed they didn't adjust the gears like they said they would and the tires needed air and the brakes after I pacifically said they need to get adjusted didn't get adjusted and my bike has dirt on it which is still here pretty disappointed all they did I think is moved my bike tube strap and took off a note to put it back on to tell me and they weren't happy I put a bike basket on it after all it was my bike. read more

Like so many bike shops in the Bay Area, this is a dud. My new bike was making an annoying noise and I wanted it fixed. The shop I bought it at was not able to do so. I took it to Sharp, told them I thought the noise was coming from the back wheel but I wasn't sure (I'm not a mechanic!), and asked them to call me if it looked like the job would be expensive. I get no call, just a text to say it's ready. So I go to pick up the bike and the bill is .. $150!!! No new parts at all, just labour at a ludicrous hourly rate (note: the bill was not itemised as it would have been at most shops). $150 is $25 more than what their website says they charge for a deluxe tune. It's about what I paid in Oakland for a full tune-up on an old Bianchi that included several new parts. The mechanic explained what was causing the noise and what he'd done. This boiled down to: 'I put in a bit of lube, but it's not guaranteed to fix it.' And your fee? One hundred and fifty dollars. But that's not the worst of it. The worst of it is: they didn't even fix the noise!! I went for a ride on Mt Diablo immediately after I picked it up. The noise started again, albeit quietly, as soon as I got on the bike. By about mile 3, it was as loud as it had ever been. And it was clearly coming from the front wheel. What happened, guys? Did you not ride the bike to check whether my guess was right? Did you not ride the bike after you'd worked on it to see if the noise was actually fixed? Did you really just charge me $150 to work on the wrong wheel, or to fix just one when both were bad? Total rip-off. Update: downgrade from 1 star to 0. This guy's diagnosis of the noise was also wrong. I took it to another shop and it was just the tape, not the rim sleeve, as he said. He told me the rim sleeve wasn't welded and was moving around when the wheel turned, but it was welded after all! So $150 for a false diagnosis and no fix. Unbelievable! read more

Being married to a bike snob is rough sometimes. We are in the process of shopping around for a mountain bike for myself. I have no idea what I'm looking at. I don't know what the difference between GT and Trek or Fisher. What ever. I want it to be comfortable to ride and it looks cool. The guy who helped us was very knowledgeable and very pragmatic in his answers. I didn't feel like he was trying to show boat us into some B.S. at all. We checked out the bikes. Some looked pretty nice. I didn't test drive any because it was pouring rain down outside. My husband also needed a new bike tube because his trials bike had a flat tire. He said that this store is more expensive that Performance Bikes in Walnut Creek. The tube was $3 more than the one we bought there a few weeks ago. We are still shopping for a bike. We may be back, we may not. I'm not really sure what direction to go in my bike purchase future. read more

My husband and I stopped by since we were in the area and have been in search for hybrid bikes for fitness/leisure. We both do not have a lot of knowledge about bikes, but after speaking to Matt we learned so much and now have an idea of what type of bikes we want. He also provided us recommendations of places to go biking in our neighborhood since he used to live in the area. We were able to test out a couple bikes but didn't find bikes that we loved and they were limited due to the increase in demand of bikes during the pandemic. His tune ups are top notch, his team friendly, and his expertise apparent. If you ask a question, you get a straight answer. Nice place, I had my elderly bicycle serviced here to the point of it no longer being worthwhile. They have some particularly expensive bikes on the floor, but are definitely not in the business of trying to oversell. My kids and I are grateful for the help the team at Sharp Bicycle provided configuring the last parts of my bike trailer (which I did not purchase at the store) for FREE. They took the time to help me despite having multiple customers to serve at the same time. This was such a kind gesture as the trailer was not simple to configure and needed some tools I did not have and a lot of elbow grease. My boys are thrilled to have the trailer work.
