I lived in Lafayette for years and I never purchased a bike here. I heard that they were closing soon and I needed to purchase a bike to ride into town. Steve and Frank helped me find the right bike for my needs. Both were knowledgeable and professional with me and they knew the right bike for my particular use. They gave me a great deal on a particular e-bike which (fortunately for me) they still had in stock. They also had just enough extra equipment (helmet, locks, etc.) to complete my sale and everything was at a steep discount. I am really going to miss going by Hank and Frank as they were a mainstay of the Lamorinda community. Again, thanks Frank and Steve for providing me the right bike and for the sales experience. You'll both be missed. read more

Reserved a bike online and was then told it was going to cost over $200 more than the listing price. The front page of the website says they price match but when I pointed out that another local shop has the same bike listed for the original price I was told they won't honor their price match policy for it and then they suggested I go buy that bike instead. Very disappointed in their false advertising and poor customer service. On my way to pick up the other bike from a dealer that actually stands by their listed prices. Edit- The other bike was only 25 miles away. Sounds pretty local to me. They did in fact have it in stock. I reserved and paid online and they even stood by their listed price! Didn't even try to price gouge me or anything! Must be a crazy concept for a shop like yours. Just more excuses from someone running a shoddy business. Buyer beware. If they won't even stand by their listed prices- what else aren't they doing right? read more

Hank and Frank Bicycles are true community heroes. We brought in a bike that had great bones that we wanted to donate to the kids down in Altadena, but the tires were worn, and the fantastic employee, Steve, paid for new tires for the bike! No questions asked, just pure kindness. It's clear they care about more than just business - they're all about supporting biking and giving back to the community. If all bike shops were like Hank and Frank, the world would be a better place. Props to them. read more

Steven was very helpful with finding what a was looking for. He was sure to encourage me to test ride the bike I liked. Overall the place seems friendly, helpful, and reasonably priced. read more

I bought my kids' bikes here years ago. Maybe the prices aren't super competitive but if you want to get the bikes services from time to time -which you do- they are prompt and courteous and do a great job. I recently brought in my bike -which I bought at a different location when I was living elsewhere- they lent me a tool so that I could fix it myself while I was in the shop. It was a small gesture but this is the kind of local service that puts a smile on the face. read more

So I went in a few days ago with my electric bike, I don't live in in Lafayette, I took Bart. I figured I had a flat tire so I walked about 15 min with a 60 pound electric bike to the shop. I walked in and told my story how I needed a new tube. They told me that they don't work on electric bikes so I looked around and they sell electric bikes. I asked about this and they said "we only service the bikes that we sell" so I asked if there is something they can do and they said no, if you want to go outside and fix it yourself you may, so I said ok can I ask for a few tools they let me use them but I realized it was to much to do, so after I called a ride I was able to go to a different shop where they services my bike! For future I wouldn't recommend as they only want to work on their bikes, but not ones from other shops. read more

Great bike shop the people that are very friendly. I asked for free chains and they gave me a box full of them.

I went in unscheduled and Frank spent 15 minutes one on one talking me through my options. He didn't push me towards bikes he had in stock or bikes with higher margin, and he was knowledgeable about even brands and models he didn't carry. Plus when you compare the "free service for life" deal to what other local bike shops charge for a tune-up or multi-year service contract...buying here is a no-brainer ! read more

great service. I brought the e-bike in for a loose battery holder and they fixed this and other tune-up issues all for free. I bought the bike here and get lifetime tuneups, but I was pleasantly surprised at how i didn't need to ask. read more

The folks at Hank and Frank Bicycles did a great job tuning up my two-year-old Giant LaFree Momentum e-bike. On today's ascent to Diablo's summit it performed perfectly, shifting quietly, and performed perfectly on the downhill too. Great job to Hank and Frank Bikes!! read more

My wife and I bought Giant mountain bikes November. The bikes are great, we have been riding at the Lime Ridge open Space. Took the bikes in for a free tune up and noticed the front shock was leaking fluid. Frank told me it would be a warranty issue that could take several weeks to resolve. He called a couple of days later and said my bike was ready. He took a front fork off of a new bike and put it on mine. Back on the trails and having a great time. Thanks Frank and Laura for all your help. I would recommend Hank and Franks bikes in Lafayette to anyone. read more

Hey!....I am not an easy customer sometimes and easy other times. I really just wanted my old bike in good working condition. I think! Hank and Frank should train their staff to know their customers better as there is alot of us casual bikers with different needs....especially in town....and I shop locally intentionally! Constructive criticism over.... I initially thought the price was high but found it very reasonable to get the bike I love in new working order. The work is great!....the bike I have sentimental connected to....will be ridden again!...thanks to Hank and Frank....and Susan...and the staff....thank you! read more

I recently bought a Giant Stance 1 29er via the Giant website and selected Hank and Frank to pick it up since they had one in stock and my local shop didn't. I live in Folsom, California over 1 1/2 hours away from Hank And Frank Bicycles. Hank and Frank has the best employees! They're Extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and willing to spend the time to educate you. I thought my local shop was great, Hank and Franks is even better! FREE service for life on their bikes is amazing, and they really stand behind it. I had an issue with my bike "Ghost Shifting" and spoke with Frank on the phone. Frank got me in right away! Turns out I got a bad hub from the factory, and because of this, my chain jumped around and damaged the cassette. Hank and Franks replaced everything free of charge. Stoked!!! So glad I found Hank and Franks, I will always get my bikes through them. Thanks guys! read more

Writing this as a longtime cyclist and bike enthusiast. NEVER do business or purchase a bike here. Run - don't walk - to another shop. There are many other better options, who treat customers and employees respectfully. Owner Frank is a volatile, tempemental individual who becomes verbally abusive to customers should they raise any concern and reportedly is equally terrible to his staff. Numerous customer complaints below and revolving door of staff who don't want to work for this man speak for themselves. Details of my own experience are below. I made the mistake of buying multiple bikes from this shop that came with supposed "service warranties," now rendered totally worthless because this place is not safe, service cannot be trusted, and the owner is an unstable lunatic. The shop also refuses to honor its promised "buy-bike" program on kids bike - do not fall for this sales gimmic. Same thing happened to this customer. https://www.yelp.com/biz/hank-and-frank-bicycles-lafayette?hrid=XIMnMdIuvoLuPJ3Mv0v5fg&utm_source=ishare&utm_content=review Details: 1. Upon calmy and privately relaying concern to the owner about covid safety concerns in the store (in an effort to provide helpfully feedback and prevent continued risk to customers), he became irate, told me I was a problem, screamed, used profanity, called me an "asshole" and "jerk," began fabricating claims of my mistreatment of his staff (have been nothing but polite and appreciative his poorly-treated employees, who have acknowledged as much; the irony is real), declared I was "unwelcome" in his store and hung up. It was a shocking experience the likes of which I have never seen from a business owner, much less in Lafayette. As I should have known from the many other customers who recounted similar experiences, and revolving door of fleeing employees whom owner cannot keep, do NOT EVER do business here with this lunatic especially not with something that could require long-term service like a bicycle. 2. I once called about a simple service request and was told by his staff to bring my bike in, which I did. Owner Frank approached me outside in an aggressive manner and started berating me in front of others for not following his special line procedures (excuse me?). When I tried to explain I was simply dropping off a bike as instructed, he accused me of lying and then began escalating into a all-out tirade - it was completely unprofessional and bizarre. I figured he was stressed that day and made the mistake of going back to the shop despite him, only to experience a worse and more deranged outburst. Go elsewhere. read more

I don't usually post negative reviews but people should know that some businesses just don't care. This is one of those business. I was shopping for an ebike and wanted to test ride a few. We stopped at Hank & Frank's at 10:50 am on a Saturday. My wife, teenage daughter and I were trying to see the sign in the window. They were finishing a transaction and staging bikes outside when we pulled up. One employee - who may have been Hank or Frank- wildly gestured toward us with his hands but never spoke. There were no other cars in the spots in front of the store. We couldn't figure out why this guy was acting so agitated so I put my mask on, rolled my window down snd asked him what the issue was. He said "move your car" and walked away. We moved our car over to a different bike shop! My 15 year old daughter asked why that guy acted that way. I told her sometimes adults show you how not to behave. Ebikes are selling like hot cakes but this wasn't about bikes. This was about about common decency. Napa River Velo, Big Dave's Bikes and Mike's Bikes all have good selections and professionalism that we found non existent at Hank and Frank's. Since our encounter we have heard ftom a few friends who live in Lafayette that they had similar experiences. read more

I love bikes. I hate bike shops. The guys there are really selective of who they devote their intel and time to. I got a gleaming recommendation from a friend but I wasn't looking too elite enough or ready to drop a couple Jackson's for new gear. But it's okay, Hank and Frank. You're two-tired to operate. I get it. I'll take the monies elsewhere. read more

Very nice staff. Needed an uncommon screw for my shifter which had fallen out, and they had one that fit in their parts bin.

Great shop. Had two new tubes and tires put on my older road bike. A couple of months later I came in back with both tube tears caused by pre-existing custom nipple openings in the wheel frame made by previous owner. The guys in the shop were more than helpful - they fit me right in, smoothed out metal in wheel frames and replaced both tubes, all done as a complimentary service at no additional charge! More than happy with their service. read more

We came back again to give it another shot. This time it was a for a helmet fitting for the boy. Hes mastered the art of riding his coasting bike in the living room and now needs a helmet for the big, bad, bumpy world. We were greeted at the door by a woman who told us of a sale that was happening that day and asked if we knew about it. No we didn't we just planned on buying a helmet that day that's all. Another man came over immediately and started helping us. We fitted our son first. He wasn't even two years old yet and was so cooperative with the man. He stood still and looked up so the straps could be adjusted. He said that my son was more cooperative than any 3 year old that's ever been in there. Then I was fitted with a helmet. My husband was also fitted. It was pretty painless and easy. They do life long fittings for your helmet that you've purchased there. They also keep those cushony things that are inside the helmet for you in case you need them replaced. Customer service was so much better than before. Then a few days later I found out the man helping us was also the owner. I personally was impressed and am glad he helped us this time. read more

Purchased a bike online drove from Sacramento to pick It up on 04/26/20 one of the staff who brought out the bike provided great service and very friendly however one of the other gentlemen came out and told my girl friend to not pet his dog rather rudely when it was his dog that walked over to the public side walk where my truck was, I think he could have handled it differently, we were uncomfortable waiting after that happened, almost canceled everything had the bike not been for my niece. read more

Earlier this morning, I stopped by Hank & Frank Bicycles (Lafayette) to look for a 52cm cyclo-cross (CX) bike. I was up front that I wasn't in the market to purchase yet, but wanted to be educated to help make a more informed decision when the time was right. The sales associate was very rude and not willing to help. I wanted to know more about CX bikes and he replied "what is a CX bike?" and when I asked if 52cm is the right size for me, he said "what is CM? I'm telling you, we don't carry bikes in CM." ... and "Any used bike out there will not be the same for bikes in here." I kindly followed up by asking, "Do you have bikes that are in between a road bike and mountain bike?" The sales associate pointed across the room and said "go look over there." I went across the room to where he pointed. As I started asking about the specifics of the bike, I realized I was talking to myself. The sales associate was no where to be found. Completely disappointed and offended by the treatment, I left the store. I truly believe that the Internet is not killing local business, but poor/rude customer service. Sadly, I will not go back to Hank & Frank nor recommend any family or friends to do so either. FYI: it is always in the best interest of businesses to help the customer make a better informed, educated decision. read more

I was in immediate need for a new bike for me and new helmets for.my daughters and myself so we could..finally go on Family bike rides. Not only did Frank and HANK & Frank's help.me find a super nice bike within my budget, but got me fitted and ordered a bike I liked, and received it with in days, built efficiently and got my daughters and myself safely on the trails by the weekend. I couldn't be more grateful! My girls and I had a great weekend full rides, and snack stops. At the end of the weekend, unfortunately my oldest daughter, on a bike not purchased at HANK & Frank's was in a bike accident, thank God she is OK . I brought her bike in the day after the accident, bought years prior and Frank, immediately took care of us, replaced several parts, and replaced her already brand new helmet and was amazing, and so supportive. They don't know me, but treated me and my family like there family. Asked how many daughter was after her hospital visit and everything. They are truly amazing. I will be back next week to buy another bike for my youngest. read more

I purchased my 11 year old a bike, now, 3 years back and have been taking it to Hank & Franks, for over 3 years now. One of the great things about buying a bike here is the once a year tune up, included with the purchase. That comes in handy with a 14 year old boy who is not too gentle with his bike. To date, they have always done a great job fixing his bike up and are always helpful. I am sometimes skeptical of the negative reviews based on my experiences, but I personally recommend. Makes it easy as well for a quick drop in and drop off if you live in Lafayette. read more

Came in with a rubbing tire & Jamil took 10 plus minutes to repair it free of charge! This is the kind of good will that keeps a customer loyal. I've been to many other bike shops over the years and at some have spent 1000s of dollars. Did they even offer me a couple of water bottles? No! That doesn't mean they aren't good folks; it means they don't understand the importance of "good will" in the form of an extra here or there when you purchase a new bike or a few minutes to repair a minor issue. Granted, the shop wasn't busy when I came in. Still, you can't go wrong with the kind of service. Thanks again Jamil and cheers to all the good staff at Hank & Frank. read more

Recently brought my MTN bike in because the front derailleur wasnt shifting between rings correctly. I was directed to Brandon (hope I'm spelling his name correctly) who asked me a series of questions to assess the problem and made some adjustments to remedy the issue. He suggested taking the bike to a nearby hill to see if the problem was fixed (the shifting issue was primarily on hills) and bring it back if still not satsfied. It was better but still not shifting cleanly so I brought it back. Brandon smiled and said he would take the bike out and test it, He rerturned and said it was shifting cleanly for him but wanted to make sure I was satsified so he volunteered to ride with me on his bike and observe my shifting technique. To make a long story short, the problem was not the shifter but it was how and when I was shifting. He suggested some changes and the problem went away. This was on a busy Friday afternoon and I was (still am) amazed that Brandon made this extra effort to resolve my issue. Well done! read more

I've used a couple lbs in the area and just wasn't happy with the service especially the big box people when it comes to servicing my bikes. But after meeting, buying and servicing all my bikes, it's clear the fellas at Hank n Frank are the best in the business. I wouldn't go anywhere else because they're knowledgable, they explain what they do and what they sell to the fullest, properly set your bike up before you leave versus the big box that simply send you on your way after you sign your cc slip, and do their very best to get you back on your bike. I own a business in Walnut Creek and deliver service the same fashion. It's awesome to be treated equally well. Thanks to Andy, Doug, Gethen, FG and Josh for all the great work! read more

Thank you to all the staff at Hank and Frank for an easy transaction with great communication. It surprised me to see a Liv Rove in small available to order on their site for pick up. I ordered it, received an email within 24 hours with a timeframe for pickup as well as additional accessories to add to the bike if I wanted. I got the call 2 days later that my bike was ready for pick up. Pickup went like this: call the store and let them know you're there for pick up, technician confirmed name and showed identification through the window. My Rove was brought out, hopped on it for size, tech adjusted the seat, he answered a couple of my questions, and we were done. Business was done differently than what we're used to but H&F has figured it out to best suit them and their customers. Thank you again! read more

We took two bikes there at the beginning of the pandemic for tune-ups. A few hundred dollars later they were allegedly in working condition. However, one of the bike's brakes almost immediately began screeching when applied on downhill so I called today and was told they weren't scheduling service until June 10. The woman I spoke to was extremely impatient and rude and completely disinterested in my explanation of the very recent "service" they had done. Very disappointing. They just lost our future business, and the next time anyone inquires on Next-door about bike repair, I will be sure to share our experience. I realize people are stressed out right now but I was nice and she could have done better. read more
