If I could give a zero I would. This place completely wasted our time. The staff lack complete common sense. My group came in as a party of 8 and instead of telling us straight off the bat that they couldn't accommodate for a group of that size (even though we said we would be fine to split into two separate tables of four) they said "no problem 15 mins". Then when 15 mins passed we inquired whether we would be seated or not and they said "your table is being cleaned off now". Then 10 mins after that we walk in asking what's going on and the hostess goes "uhhhh well we're not really equipped to handle your party" so instead of telling us straight off they couldn't handle the party they decided to waste 30 mins of our vacation time. Came in here for breakfast yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. The staff was so friendly and hilarious, the food was amazing, and it was super inexpensive ! Service was great - initially ordered the Thai Bloody Mary and it wasn't for me, Mary, our server (ironically her name was Mary in a place known for Bloody Marys) took back the cocktail as pleasant as can be and came back with the Whiskey Willy's Bloody. Great recommendation on her part and a hassle free swap out for the original Thai Bloody Mary. In addition to a diverse Bloody Mary selection, they have solid breakfast entrees. My SO and I split the French Toast and the Hash. Their version of French Toast is slightly different using Brioche bread cooked to have a cinnamon crunchy crust all around with a soft, warm center. It's not the typical egg soaked soft all round French Toast but that just makes it all the more appealing and more importantly and some would say the true hallmark of good French Toast, doesn't require syrup. The Hash was described as "old fashioned" which translated to bits of crispy, salty beef balanced with diced onions and potatoes. Welcome change from the typical processed corned beef hash which unfortunately tends to be the rule rather than the exception in most breakfast places. Also, ordered a side of Biscuits and Gravy because hey why not, it's vacation right? Light fluffy biscuit, creamy, rich gravy when doctored up with Texas Pete (personal taste) turned out to be amazing. Used to be a wonderful place for breakfast. No more. The new owners brought their poor attitude and taught it to their staff. First, there was no acknowledgement we had entered, so we stood there at the check in lectern waiting. After passing us twice, an employee finally spoke. He offered us seats at the bar. We declined, and suggested an empty table 15 feet away. His answer: "Go to it!" That was just the start. My two companions were happy with their meal, but my French toast was burned on the outside, mushy inside. When I returned it, the curt answer was, "That's the way it's supposed to be. We sell 100 of those a day!" So does this mean 100 people a day want their French toast burned? I then asked for a simple biscuit with gravy. The biscuit they brought out was dry, crusty and seemingly from yesterday's batch. Then the bill: They did not deduct my French toast and charge me for the biscuit (which cost $2 less) but comped me the biscuit and charged me for the more expensive French toast I had sent back. Suddenly, when it came time for the bill (and the anticipated tip) their manners were transformed. From then on it was "thank you" and the word "please" appeared for the first time. As someone who has done marketing for several restaurants, I have an idea or two about proper behavior from a restaurant staff. Our clients would have fired any staff members who dared demonstrate half the attitude of this bunch. Needless to say, the tip was not generous. Definitely a place to avoid, unless you enjoy rude service, questionable food preparation and a staff with no clue. read more

Have been here for the last several years as part of my OBX trips. After this visit I will never go back. We were treated rude by the manager for sitting in our seat too long while waiting for our check. Almost $100 lunch bill for average food slow service and then to be told to leave as we are waiting for our check. We arrived at 11:19am hoping to have lunch but we had to pull teeth to get them to give us a lunch menu instead of breakfast since lunch started at 11:30. Service was slow... We had to ask for water multiple times. I got a first light burger, my fiance got the first light salad and his dad got the blue cheese burger. My burger (first light) was delicious and the slaw was tasty as well. My fiance's first light salad was good. Everything was fresh and crunchy. My future father in law really liked his blue cheese burger. If it weren't for the slow service I'd almost consider a 5-star review. It's a tiny place...so be aware of that! read more

Right in Tim Buck II, First Light is kind of a dive, but it's one of the few place in Corolla where you can have a sit down breakfast. They have outdoor seating on the pavilion right outside the restaurant, which looks like a nice change to the inside that looks like its taken a beating. Beyond the hostess table is a bar and tables off to the right and left (place is not that big though). The biggest problem that I had was that the place looked pretty dingy, especially the floors which were light, so you can see all the dirt and grime laying around. The first time I was there I had ordered the crabby benedict and my husband had the biscuits and gravy. Portion sizes were huge and prices felt in line with what we were being served. The crab cake had a perfect sear to it and was well seasoned. The eggs were poached perfectly and the english muffins perfectly crispy. The biscuits and gravy that my husband had although very bland looking he said were really tasty. Also really liked the home fries that came with my meal. The second time we were there, my husband got the eggs and hash breakfast, where I had the eggs and bacon breakfast. These were a little more standard (kind of hard to mess up eggs and bacon although it can be done). My husband did really like the hash though, he mentioned it had a lot of flavor. Food was really good and service was speedy and waiter was very nice. I was kind of put off by the lack of cleanliness of the place, but not that much apparently that I went back a second time. read more

The waiter wouldn't split our checks and there was only three of us I guess he was too lazy. Meh. We take our breakfast food seriously. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and it was foul. Big blob of cream gravy with hardly any sausage in it. I only ate one of the 2 biscuits on the plate and I'm not one to leave food on my plate. No amount of sriracha could redeem this mess. The "Scattered" was greasy and disappointing. The menu says it comes with hash browns but they served it with home fries. Undercooked. Our waiter was a douche. Not helpful and would stare blankly when we asked a question. It took forever to get a cup of coffee and when it arrived, it was bland. The bacon was good - that's the only way I can justify 1 star. read more

I ordered the Corolla hangover breakfast and asked to add hollandaise, but was told that I had to get a Benedict dish to get hollandaise because nothing made to order can be added to another dish. I am injured and only have use of one hand so I couldn't eat a dish that required cutting. My fiancé ordered the crab Benedict with hollandaise on the side since I couldn't add it to my own dish. The poached eggs were very over cooked and the crab cake was bland. Our waiter sat on his phone and we never got drink refills. It took 35 minutes to get food which wasn't terrible, but it took another 35 to get the check. We were not impressed and will not be returning. read more

Service is kinda slow, but friendly and it's overpriced for breakfast. We visited multiple times during our stay in Corolla last year and never had a bad experience, but this year was different. They didn't seem to have enough waiters, so it took almost 45 min to get our food. My omelet looked like a child made it, but it tasted good. The home fries were cold as if they had been sitting on the plate waiting for the omelet to be made. My wife got the bacon, egg and cheese biscuit which was also cold, served with you guessed it, cold home fries. We ended up spending $50 for drinks, 2 omelets, 1 bacon, egg and cheese biscuit and an order of kids French toast sticks.
