First off, when a restaurant makes its business about burgers, they had better be really good. I am a burger connoisseur of sorts, so I usually use a burger on a menu to judge a restaurant. The burger was a little overcooked (kind of dry) and was smaller than the bun. Two really big pet peeves of mine when it comes to burgers. The homemade chips were pretty good. Second, the service was HORRIBLE! People two tables over from us finally got up and left. Took us 45 minutes to get out food after we ordered. It was like our waiter was also the cook in the back. The place inside and out was full, but no one seemed to be getting their food. Very slow service. Third, my son ordered teriyaki wings. They really sucked. They were fried wings that had been drenched in teriyaki sauce. He ate two and that's all he could do. I tried one and immediately agreed with him. Service had been so slow that we dared not order something else. I would recommend anywhere else besides this place, especially if I had anything else to do because the wait was so long. One star for service, one star for the wings, three stars for the burger, and four stars for the chips. read more

Staff was nice and the food was pretty good! What I really don't appreciate is paying $3 for each kid drink refill. With 3 kids and no warning that adds up! That fact should be clearly stated but more importantly should be a policy that is changed. Yes would not go back for that reason only. I also didn't like searching for the bathrooms which are located outside of the restaurant. I had to stop into a different store in order to locate the rest room. I went as a group of 8. As soon as I walked in I realized that there were 3 hostesses, 2 doing absolutely nothing. They said that if we wanted to sit inside it would be a 20-25 minute wait. If we wanted to be seated immediately, we could sit outside in the sun. We chose to wait. After only about 10 minutes they seated us. Our server was really nice and told us recommendations for different items on the menu. I had ordered the First Light French Toast. It Came with maple syrup, whipped cream, and strawberries on the side. It was delicious and cooked perfectly, It was SOO filling. A group of us, equipped with appetites and post-wedding hangovers, stopped here on Sunday on our way out of town. The first thing I can say is that I love the outdoor seating, it was perfect for all of us. The service was pretty bad. We had to get up and get our own cream for coffee and my husband ordered a glass of milk 3 times before he got it. That being said, the food overcame our bad service, and that says a lot. I had the biscuits and gravy (don't judge), and the biscuits were large and fluffy and the gravy was salty and yummy. Friends had the hash combo with cheese grits and that was also amazing. We really enjoyed this restaurant. The food was great. Bacon was especially done right. I had the western omelette, boyfriend had a hangover breakfast. (it helped) I wanted to note though, that the number of hostesses they had didn't seem necessary. There were three on a Friday morning, with two just standing there not doing much. In fact, when we walked in, I said 'two, please" to which one replied "okay" and then nothing, Just stared at us until I said "Ok, we will sit at the bar." (not sure if this has something to do with a language barrier as I know a lot of Europeans come and work in the OBX, so no harm done.) We've been here several times for breakfast over the last few trips out to OBX, most recently this morning. We walked in at 10 a.m.--the place was nearly empty! Not a problem, because we got prompt and friendly service. The portions are substantial--you will not leave this place hungry. I usually get an omelet; today I had "classic #2", which was eggs, bacon or sausage (the boy got my bacon), home fries, and a choice of toast or a biscuit (I'm a biscuit girl). My boyfriend got corned beef hash, and neither of us were disappointed. We've never tried this place for lunch/dinner--may have to in future. read more

Definitely a fan. Corolla, and the Outer Banks really is plagued by a food disparity. Food is either really good, or really bad. This is solid food for a good price, and the perfect chill setting. Came here once for lunch, got a burger - it was massive and I devoured it. Fries were awesome. Came back with a group of 9 the morning of my wedding for a "last meal" and enjoyed a good omelet. Was with some champion eaters, and they had trouble finishing their breakfast. We all agreed it was damn good. Laid back. Good food. Smiling people. Right price. We'll be back. read more

We went on two separate occasions while visiting Corolla. Both times we got great service, great food, and the place is reasonably priced. The first time, we didn't know NC withheld alcohol sales until 10am, so we didn't have anything to drink. But my crab benny was SO good! Seeing as it was getting busier, my husband and I offered the larger table we were sat at to any other larger groups that walked in but our awesome server told us we could hang there. The second time we went, we sat at the bar and went AFTER 10am to have mimosas and breakfast shots, which the bartender knew how to make without question. We have one more day here, and I'm pretty sure we'll go for breakfast before we head home. Highly recommended! read more

This has to be one of the worse places I had breakfast. The hostess could care less it seemed, she guided us to the table where some egg sat on the table from a previous customer then walked away,then quickly returned and drop the menus on the top of it. The place was dirty .The front door knob was grimy and nasty, service was poor as half the food arrived and then I had to ask for the rest. Can't say enough good stuff about this place! We have been patronizing First Light for over 4 years and have never had a bad experience. Food is always fresh and tasty and service has always been very warm and welcoming. Breakfast is the best, but their lunch/dinner entrees are just as good. We've tried almost all the breakfast items loved them all. My hubby's favorite is the hash and if I had to pick mine would be the French toast but I always have trouble deciding. Burgers are yummy! I then proceeded to ask whether I was being charged $4 in tax for my food. I mentioned that they might want to change the pricing on their website, to which i was told I was being a "smarty-pants" and was kicked out of the store. Boo. All I wanted for breakfast was some delicious pancakes. If you're like me, you will not find them here. Tip for the Chef: don't overwork the batter for your pancakes...this will inevitably result in the giant rubbery disks you served me. I couldn't get a bite separated without sawing at it with my knife. Our waiter didn't even apologize when I sent them back; he simply shrugged and said "that's how we make them." Rubbery? Gross.
