This review is for the Brazilian - I love Kim! Starting from the appoint my setup, she's so easy to reach via text and I can usually book something same day or next. She works out of her home and she has a beautiful mural painted on the wall - definitely adds to the ambiance and is a nice change from the medicinal vibe you get from European Wax. Kim also is talented at waxes. I mean any Brazilian is going to be at the least mildly uncomfortable, but she is quick and knows how to hold your skin for the least amount of pain. She also holds a great conversation to keep your mind off what's going on down there. I hate small talk, and I never feel like it's a conversation that is awkward or forced. I came to Kim's after the usual wax-girl couldn't fit me in her overbooked schedule. I truly regret sharing the secret of how great the other girl was because now I can't get an appointment unless booking months in advance. Anyway, that's neither here nor there. However, because of the waxing experience with several other girls there's certain things that I've picked up that I think we over look when waxing. I called Kim with one of those "wax emergencies" and she was kind enough to fit me in the next day. The salon is actually in the back of her house; you go in through her side gate and a few feet later you'll see the door to the salon. While I care more about the quality of her job as an esthetician, I can't help but judge a person by the way their salon looks. The place definitely needs some organizing, dusting and perhaps good lighting. Kim was super friendly and the few minutes I was there she tried to get to know me. I like that she engages people especially when she's about to wax your private area. Not everyone can do that. There are two things I noticed when she was waxing me; she didn't use gloves and double dipped. I'm sure her hands were clean but I mean you're touching my vagina. As far as the double dipping, I'm really hoping that the batch was fresh and it was thrown away after she was done with me. For the most part she did great job waxing but would have loved if she could have cleaned up a bit more. There was some hair strands left over here and there which I had to clean up myself. She makes you feel so comfortable even when you are butt naked with your legs wide open on the table getting your goods waxed! She does awesome facials as well using great products that cater to your skin type. She doesn't go through the same process for everyone and adapts her facials to your skin type. She owns her own salon in Burlingame and runs a mini operation out the side of her house. It may not look like much, but she has experience from all over the world. Also, her prices are very competitive. Just look at her face! She's lovely, and her age has become ambiguous due to her skincare techniques. As for the waxing, she was very quick, but painless? I don't think so. Maybe other women have like mutant pubes that come off like fairy dust, but it usually hurts quite a bit for me. Whoever said that this was one of San Jose's Best Kept Secrets was absolutely on point. I needed an emergency same-day appointment and Kim was able to squeeze me into her busy schedule at 9 p.m. at night at her San Jose home location. She works at another salon in Burlingame. I was hesitant at first, unsure of whether or not $45 for a Braz Wax was worth it. Kim made me feel comfortable and she assured me that the process would be quick and as painless as possible. I got to my appointment a few minutes early, which worked out because she finished up an appointment right as I arrived. When you get there, park on the street or on her driveway, look for a Kim's sign on the door that leads to her backyard. Ring the doorbell and wait for Kim to come get you. When I was there, she came and led me to her backyard where I waited outside in her spacious, decorative backyard before she let me in to the private studio. And then, well, you know, I took my pants off, I did what I had to and I got done with it. :) Now, I can see why she charges $45, she's very meticulous, she drops some knowledge on which waxable parts of a female's body are more sensitive than others, and she constantly comforted me and even told me that she'd "done and seen it all." That's when I knew I was in good hands. Good, professional hands. Oh, and when you are laying on your back and bare from the hips down, there's a beautiful ceiling painting that you can keep your focus on. Kim and I had an awesome conversation about how Asian parents would probably condemn their no-hair-down-there daughters and sons. She even said that her generation of strict parents needs to calm down. She has a daughter that's around my age (23) and she said she understands the needs to feel clean and hairless "down there." I was looking for Kim's business card when I remembered that I needed to write a review for her. I found Kim on yelp and left her a message on her phone for a Brazilian wax that day. She got back to me and was able to see me at her San Jose location. A+ for quick follow up and location. When I'm in SF, then her San Mateo will also be convenient to go to. Brazilians are never fun but Kim made it as fast and least painful as possible. Another A+. Oh and another important thing was that her space is clean (towels replaced, doesn't double-dip stick into wax, etc.) A+++ When I met her, I was surprised as I was expecting a matronly-looking lady based on her education and experience on her website.
