I've been going to this place since I was maybe 8 years old, so that makes it 15 years. My favorites here are the shrimp FR, roast duck/pork bbq wonton noodle soup, spicy calamari and pan fried noodles. I have not had a bad experience here but every other Chinese place I've been to - I did. Place is tiny, but I like tiny joints - it's intimate. This was my favorite place to eat while I lived in Dallas. I was introduced to it by a group of Thai friends from UTD. From that point on, I ate there every Sunday for 2 years straight. While the name may be unusual, it is as authentic as it gets. You'll see when you get there. The best plate to get is BBQ Pork, hands down. No, this isn't the barbecue sauce that you're familiar with. This is more of a sweet glaze. Nor is it pulled pork or any other type of Texas concoction. I believe the dinner/meal number is 206. With all of the sticky rice you can eat, and a great price ($7.14 I think) for the portion, this is perhaps my most missed place to eat. read more

What rude, horrible people who own this establishment. I came here because of all the rave reviews. Here's my experience: The place just opened for lunch and there were hardly any customers there. All the employees had their heads-down not making any eye-contact. No one approached and asked me anything for 10 minutes. I asked a sullen woman (who just finished counting stacks of money on a dining table) where I can place a takeout order. She just pointed a finger at the empty front desk. Some pointers for eating out in any authentic, beaten down Chinese & Vietnamese restaurants: 1. Most will accept Cash only. 2. Terrible service 3. Limited parking spaces. 4. Dirty restroom 5. Most speaks little English. Now if you can overlook all that, then you will definitely enjoy the really good food. This place has really good BBQ pork, chicken, and duck. Soup is good. You can ask them to add Chinese broccoli to any dishes for a small price. If you don't like the food here, then authentic Chinese food is really not for you. read more

Very authentic Chinese food, egg rolls fried to perfection, Chicken fried rice that isn't greasy and the BBQ Pork is to die for! They were pretty friendly whenever I have come in and since they don't give you the total over the phone, if you are short a dollar or so, they will front you until you order from them next time... and believe me, there will be a next time! I would have given this place 4 stars from past experiences had they not served my party and I a dish with raw meat in it...I repeat raw meat!! The pork pieces were still red inside. I understand that they were particularly busy the day we went, but serving raw food is inexcusable and makes me question their cleanliness and food preparation. Also, the ladies' restroom was broken the day we went, so then I began to wonder whether the workers were washing their hands prior to returning to work. While their dishes are affordable and decent when cooked, I'm very disgusted with this restaurant and will not be returning ever again! We ordered large amount of food last Friday (May 15, 2020) to intend to last us a couple of day as we have done with this place a few weeks ago and with many other restaurants often, especial during this period of time. However, this one turned out to be an awful experience. On Saturday, one of the dishes, "Salt Water" Chicken smelled funny. We thought maybe this dish is less popular so it does not move fast enough. We will just leave this one out if we ever order again next time. We were a little glad this is not the dish on our usual order list. But I still like to let the restaurant know in the spirit of helping their business. So I call them on Sunday. The woman answered the phone immediately started attacking me by saying, "if you ordered Friday, why you did not call right away on Saturday? Why you only call us on Sunday after two days have passed?". "In this hot weather , you can not leave food for two days..." I can not believe I have to defend myself by saying we store food in fridge including the chicken and I did not call Saturday because I understand the restaurant closes at 7:00. But my explanation only invited my attaches and accusation: "you say you ordered food on Friday but why did not eat on Friday...If you knew your food is bad on Saturday already why you wait to call. We are still here after 7:00..." And she hung up the phone on me. So, we got bad food and being accused as a liar too. (By the way, the Roast Duck was on the "board line bad" too the next day). They do not really want our business and we can alway get our favorite BBQ pork, Roast Duck and many other dishes in 99 Ranch and other Asian Markets. I was at 99 Ranch one Saturday to wait for these dishes to finish cooking around 11:00AM. read more

This restaurant is like a great album, it's hard to figure out which one I like the best. Make sure you check the "new addition" section on the on-line menu. There are some hidden gems in there. For example lobster stuffed fish stomach soup and the salt and pepper short ribs. I will enjoy making my way through their entire menu. With great food like this the wait staff is looking to turn the tables and serve the next customer. Being familiar with the menu will put you in the drivers seat. read more

The steamed stir fried broccoli with garlic in a light sauce is a must here. It is not overcooked, but bright and pleasingly al dente with a fresh garlic flavor. They also have a crispy fried tofu with peanuts on a bed of lettuce and fried onions that is great. A kung pao tofu! The sliced barbecue pork is great here too. You can hear them chopping it after you order it. The hanging ducks in the meat station when you enter sets the interesting ambiance for the contemporary decor. I've enjoyed the meals I've tried but yesterday was the best. #203 plus broccoli on the side. Our waitress kindly brought extra BBQ sauce to which we added chilis. We started dining at this restaurant about two years ago on our wedding anniversary. We loved their food and the fact that the waitresses would remember us each time we would dine in. Our favorite foods were the bbq pork, roast pork, marinated chicken, and roast duck (my husbands favorite) and we later expanded to other dishes such as the combination fried rice which looks bland but it was really flavorful and the Clams in black bean sauce, my fave. I'm sad to say the quality of the food has gone waaaaay down. The clams are no longer fresh and questionable, the combination fried rice now matches its bland appearance and is flavorless, and the bbq pork is just bad cuts of pork, not the pork loin we initially experienced. I am sad to announce yesterday was our last time eating there. I gave two stars for the waitresses we have grown to know and like. Otherwise, it would be one star. read more

i'll be honest here i grew up eating cantonese food and because of that i've grown quite tired of it. when i first heard about 1st bbq i really wasnt very excited to go b/c its a cantonese restaurant but at the persistence of the bf and yelp's awesome reviews, i gave in and decided to try it. OMFG this place is orgasmic. i have never had such delicious peking duck. everything about it was downright coma-inducing. the salted fish and chicken fried rice had an abundance of salty fish. the bf hogged all the roast duck wonton noodle soup and barely gave me 2 bites b/c he was so engulfed by it. it sucks that i live in KCMO b/c i would drive 8hrs just so i can eat at 1st bbq. dont forget this is a cash only place which means one thing: THE PRICES ARE LOW!!! read more
