Our family has eaten here many times over the years, and we are always happy with food, whether it be pizza, burger, taco's, nachos etc, no complaints. The reason I'm finally doing a review is because this past week we were up in the area and went in. One of my son's asked for honey mustard sauce to go with his chicken. The girl told us they don't have that sauce, no biggee, we weren't at a drive thru somewhere that has multiple sauces. Fast forward 5 minutes and the same girl comes out with honey mustard sauce! She quickly went on google saw a quick recipe and since she knew they had the ingredients, she went ahead and made a quick small batch for my kiddo. Food was very bland, I had the tamale meal. The tamale barely had any chicken in it. The rice and beans needed some seasoning. Overall I was not impressed. Even the napkins were terrible, it's the kind you use in the bathrooms. Staff server was nice, but the cashier was dressed inappropriately.She like just threw whatever on and looked frumpy, but everyone else had like a professional apron on. read more

Love the fish tacos here always good and filling. The pizza's are also really good if I take a break from the fish tacos. Friendly staff and can get crowded but tables are quickly cleaned and ready and there is always upstairs seating,TV and cold beers. Recently tried the mushroom burger and it was very good also. read more

Food was good but service was terrible. It took almost 30 minutes for a veggie burger and by that time most of us were finished with our pizzas. The employees running the food seemed annoyed when we asked about the burger and one even answered his cell phone while we were talking to him. read more

Back again 2 years later and we loved the food. Caesar salad super yummy, bbq pizza very tasty and tamales fresh and good (they had just brought a new batch in as we were ordering). So ... glad we tried it again, will definitely return. read more

We came here over the holidays with a party of 4 adults and 4 kids. The first night we tried to go, the place was packed and we couldn't find a seat so with kids in tow, we went elsewhere. We came back for lunch the next day. When we first got there and I saw the variety on the menu (burgers, pizza and mexican?!) I was skeptical, rightfully so. I can only vouch for the pizza as we ordered 2 pizzas- mushroom and a cheese. I expected a little more out of a wood fired pizza, but I was quite disappointed. The crust was thicker than I like in a wood fired pizza (I like ny style thin crust or deep dish chicago style). And the sauce and toppings were pretty bland. The description made the pizza sound very gourmet and flavorful with potential, but the result was definitely disappointing. The cheese pizza was also only ok. Our friends ordered burgers and fries which they seemed to enjoy. The fries were decent, nice and crispy. Maybe mexican food is where their strength is but I would not recommend their pizza. The service was friendly and effiecient since you order and they deliver your food to the table. It's very kid friendly and casual but was crowded in the evening. Go again? Been here tons of times over the past couple few years. And as recently as last weekend--twice. It is really the only decent casual place in Murphy's. Everything else is upscale or questionable. (we really want to try hillbillies and one of the local mexican spots, but they seem so run of the mill. And the Growler was a bomb). Good 'za, burrittos, burgers, chips and yummy salsas. Been giving it 4 in my mind, but now that I am siting down to review, I'm rethingking to a 3 or 3.5. Wouldn't hesitate going back. but if I could change anything about this gem it would be: 1) Pizza consistency....tops/cheese often are burnt. Yo long hair dude--pull that 'za out! 2) Speed at the counter. Either need two registers or someone other than the very friendly gal at the front dealing with drinks. Seemed like there are lots of people hanging out waiting for orders to come up that could help speed things up. 3) Nachos should be served on plates. By the time u get to the bottom, the paper in the basket is a disintegrated mess and you wonder if you are consuming waxed tree fibers. 4) Burger buns. Very similar to an in-n-out bun. For a place like this, i would expect a nice dusted roll or wheat sesame. 5) Buger meat: Would lovet to see a fresh patted patty. Mine this weekend was thin and dry. Make sure to aske for medium rare if you can. Although the gorganzola burger came with a HUGE yummy chunk of Gorg. 5) String fries. Again for a place like this, i think fresh cut fries (like armadillo willies) would be HUGE. If they would draw on some of the things that makes the sister place Grounds up the street so awesome, i would rave. read more

We live about 20 minutes from Murphy's & regularly make the drive just to have dinner here. Their fish (Baja style) tacos are the BEST!!! They are so good we haven't tried other items on the menu. So if you like fish tacos, at a reasonable price, in a casual dining setting, this place is it!!! A note on other dining in Murphy's; yes there are a.lot of good restaurants here, most are pricey, so it just depends what kind of dining you're looking for. read more

Firewood has been my go-to place in Murphys for years! The food is awesome and QUICK. I always order a super carnitas burrito to go and it's always in 10 minutes. The burrito is also an awesome value for the price. I usually have half then and half later so for me it's basically like getting two meals for one price! This place is great and I highly suggest going if you want a casual atmosphere and good prices. read more

This place was actually pretty good overall! It was a concert night so everywhere was PACKED. The line here was almost out the door, and we were afraid it would take forever to get our food, but we were pleasantly surprised. We got our food pretty quickly! Nice selection of beers which is always a plus. I had the prosciutto and arugula pizza - it was decent, but the crust and sauce were lacking in flavor ..... Overall score of 7 out of 10. Hubby had a burger with fries - he was very happy with it and gave it a 9 out of 10. It's nice to be able to get good food at a decent price in Murphys! read more

Hubby and I went before a concert at Ironstone. We were there on a Friday about 530pm..right as the rush started, so plan to wait a little bit nothing so bad to keep you away, I promise. Hubby had the bacon Swiss burger and loved it. Only thing he didn't love was the bun, he said it kind of crumbled a little. But the burger was huge, had great flavor and the fries were awesome too. I had the carnitas tacos.OMG. Yum. So good. Not greasy, so much flavor. I used some salsa verde (cause I'm a salsa verde junkie) and I can say it's my new favorite. Rice and beans were so good..fresh and full of flavor...no grease. We immediately planned our next trip back. My husband and I love Firewood, and go there often. Terri is always friendly and remembers my husband's favorite order; you can always see the owner, River, working between there and Grounds taking care of things. The other cashier (Russell? Not quite sure) is fun and efficient as well. Best of all, of course, the food is consistently very good. On busy weekends it understandably might take longer, but the quality remains the same. read more

So disappointed with Firewood last night! Have eaten here multiple times in the past and been pleased, but after last night I will be frequenting another choice. We strolled in around 8 and the place was quiet. The gal taking our order was unfriendly and seemed like we were bothering her. We had 4 people with three different orders. One of the three orders never got made and when the wrong was righted, the beef tacos, the meat was so fatty I could not eat it. A friend ordered three different meat tacos and there was more cilantro than meat. Every business has a bad day, but this evening was just one thing after another. Bummer! read more

Last time we were in Murphy's at this restaurant it was so busy I didn't get my pizza until my group was ready to leave. The fact that we returned tells you that it was great pizza. The tacos are wonderful too, and one pal had a hamburger with sweet potato fries which she shared and everyone loved. The whole front of the space opens when it's warm outside and makes it feel a bit like alfresco dining. The best food we've found in Murphy's comes with helpful wait staff to find missing orders. read more

Wow let me say HORRIBLE service. I went in Saturday and usually me and my family go to get lunch and we've come in Saturday mornings when this young lady, who I finally asked for her name MICHELLE was very rude and it was horrible service she looked pissed and was on her phone behind the counter and couldn't even be discreet about it. This was yesterday and I've actually come in with her working there previously and she was just standing around while there was tables that needed some cleaning. The first night we got into town and had had a few glasses of wine at the bar, we decided it would be a good idea if we got some sort of suistenance in our bodies before continuing with more drinking. We went in because we didn't want to spend a fortune and my boyfriend wanted pizza and I was craving a burger and fries. Perfect comnination. Our order came in about 10 minutes (very happily surprised) and we looked at it and went "we will probably take a lot of this back to the room). 15 minutes later we had devoured everything. I had ordered a mushroom bacon burger and it was good (not fantastic, not bad), and he ordered the Spicy sausage pizza and that was delicious (Fantastic). In fact, it was so good we ended up going back the next day for lunch and ordered the same pizza. Great restaurant, great prices, liked the ambience. Would definitely go back, in fact we joked about ordering a couple to throw in the freezer for later...too bad it's a 3 hour drive home! This place is really good! Their Mexican food is the best; you can't go wrong with a burrito, taco, or bowl here. I used to get the burritos all the time until I discovered their fish tacos. I was reluctant at first because I am not a fish lover, but now that is all I normally buy. The fish taco meal with beans (black beans for me) is a very good portion at a great price. (Let's just say it tastes better and is a lot cheaper than the place in Angels Camp that shall remain nameless.) I've only had their Mexican food and burgers, so I can't rate the pizzas, but honestly theirs have never appealed to me. You should order the fish tacos anyway. read more

We had a week stay at Angel's Camp and this was the only restaurant we went to twice. Tried Sidewinders and Mike's Pizza. We had the burgers and they were fresh! After the first time, we thought - hey maybe we were starving and it was all in our mind...The second time was just as good. Didn't try anything else because we were so infatuated with the burgers. Noticed other people mostly ordered the tacos. Not planning another trip there for a while but will definately go back to Firewood if we do. read more

As we were in the neighboring town for business, and after the recommendation of a super sweet family on the street to try this place we were not disappointed. Their recommendation was highly welcomed after we received our food. I had the arugula and prosciutto pizza and it was phenomenal. You could taste that everything was fresh, which is always a plus. My colleague had the carnitas burrito and two of the tacos, and was also pleasantly surprised with how great everything was. The environment of the restaurant is very low key and welcoming. Good food, friendly staff, and nice location. The thing that impressed me the most was a little thing that they did, put up a huge bug/mosquito net along the outside wall of the space so sitting "outside" didn't mean sitting with the bugs, something my wife and daughter would have hated. I had the cheese burger which was good after I used some of the fixings from their fixings bar. It came cooked medium which is how I like it so if you like yours well done make sure to tell them because they don't ask. My wife had the pizza and really enjoyed it. My daughter had the burrito bowl and, with the addition of some salsa found it tasty. She was disappointed that sour cream cost extra. read more
