Firetap COULD BE a great restaurant. With all the beer and the wood stone oven, there is no reason this place shouldn't be slamming good. Here are a few of their current issues: 1) The oven isn't quite right. The several times I've been here, my pizza or calzone has always been cooked to perfection or so it would appear; that is until I bit into it and found whatever it was was undercooked. Some of the other dishes i had were just mediocore, i think menu and the food quality need a total revamp especially at their current price point. 2) Service is hit or miss. No real consistency here. Wait staff should anticipate what you need, if I need to chase staff down to get a napkin or silverware, that's a problem. I have had good nights there but more often than not there are some issues. I want to like Firetap, I really do. I hope that the next time I go all of these things will be resolved. Also, with the wide open look of the place, like another reviewer wrote, it feels like a cafeteria. There is also very little art and the TV's are in odd places. It's in need of more identity instead of sterility. Overall, Firetap is worth going for the adventurous but not for those that are expecting a hit and can't handle a miss. read more

We went back since we were in the area just for appetizers and got the antipasto platter. I've had a LOT of antipasto platters and the salami is always sliced very thinly. These were huge chunks of salami, low grade salami at that. Gross. I don't know why I keep trying this place. 4th time here and I always regret coming. read more

Definitely won't be going back. I don't live in Anchorage anymore, but the times I have been back on vacation and tried to go to Firetap with the hopes that they have improved I have ultimately been really really disappointed. This time around I tried: Blackened Chicken Wrap - Blackened chicken, black bean salsa, roasted onions & peppers, cheddar & mozzarella cheese and spicy ancho chili sauce in a warm flour tortilla. This is definitely not a wrap - it is a burrito. It would be in your best interest to change the menu to correctly explain that this is a burrito. I often choose to order a wrap because they tend to be healthier than a full blown sandwich and this was probably way worse for me than a sandwich. It reminded me of a burrito stuffed with chili (I know it says ancho chili sauce, but imagine eating home made chili and mounds of cheese). The service wasn't extraordinary, just adequate. They have great beer selection and I ordered an IPA. I assumed since they didn't ask what size I wanted that it would be the smaller, cheaper one but after getting the bill I realized they brought me the 16oz without even confirming that was what I actually wanted. That's a big no-no for me. The total came to $37 for two beers, caprese appetizer, and a wrap. In my opinion it was extremely overpriced and not worth it. We decided to give firetap 2 stars because there were just too many detractors going against it. There were some good things going for the restaurant, but all of which have to do with ambiance, cleanliness, and beer selection. None of which had to do with the food, staff, and price. These detractors are numerous and very important. The menu is too large and unclear. The wait staff was barely engaged and borderline rude. The food was "okay" at best and almost equivalent to "bar food". Albeit, in the class of "bar food", it was good bar food. Finally, the prices are WAY too high for that quality of product. Comparing Firetap to other restaurants, we won't be back. You can get WAY better food for the price. Here's to taking our money elsewhere in the future. read more

Had the Mac n Cheese and Salmon Spread. The Mac was a bit of a let down. It tasted bland and didn't give me the cheesy factor I was looking for. Gave it a try for the second time since they opened because I didn't want to judge the place during its opening days. Have to say it didn't get any better. First, it has the atmosphere of an airport restaurant. When you walk in the hostess station is way off to the right, it's not the bar that really does looks like one right in front of you. Then there are TV's all over the place and music you can hear just well enough to be irritating. Finally, the food...oh the food. Menu read okay. I picked a turkey & pesto sandwich. It had the feel of another traveller favorite, the foil wrapped sandwich. You know, the one with all of the meat off to one side, soggy bread, and the pesto only dabbed on in the middle of the bread? Yeah, totally worth the $7 you paid for it but wait! This one is $14. But the saving grace was the service was great. Helpful and smiley. I should rate a ZERO as the appetizer was chips and fresh pico de gallo and the chips loked like the bottom of a bag and the guac was ICE COLD and the pico from a can. Then the Thai Chicken pizza came and it was suppose to be thin and crispy and it was raw and cold. No thai sauce and when I asked for more sauce they sent out a container with sauce with ice crystals in it and no taste!! So dissappointed! This place was terrible. From service to food. The waitress was very short with my sister and I as soon as we sat down. Got a couple drinks and gave her our dinner order. We got our food and it was terrible. The Mac and cheese only has cheese on top of the dish that was unbreakable. The mac noodles were dry. Also, the lasagna was dry and the sauce tasted cheap. Like it came out of a can. The prices are ridiculous for how bad they came out. Our server never came by to check on us. The only efficient thing she did was take our payment. With a wonderful beer selection and wide variety of food options Firetap is definitely one of my go to lunch spots. I would highly recommend any sandwich that is on a pretzel bun. Although prices seem a little high the portion sizes are huge and you will not be leaving there hungry. They also offer some amazing soups or salads to go along with your delicious sandwich. We went to Firetap on 7/12. I'm not sure what all the hype was about. I'm not impressed. We sat on the patio, and were just settling in, and they tried to give us salads that belonged to another table. This kept happening our entire time there. The tables were mis-numbered, or the waitstaff were really that incompetant. My husband ordered a calzone, and the oven was broken. He tried to order a beer, but the keg blew the day before. He ended up ordering some sort of meat pizza. He said it was good, but he didn't really taste the crust. I just wanted to order a vegetarian/veggie pizza. There wasn't one on the menu, so I had to "create" my own. I asked for the roasted veggies. When I received the pizza, it looked like they just opened the bag of frozen mixed vegetables and tossed them on top. Green beans on pizza??? My daughter ordered a hawaiian pizza, and she was not pleased. What kid doesn't like hawaiian pizza? Someone else reviewed that the crust tasted like a warm saltine, and I agree. No flavor whatsoever. I ordered the raspberry viniagrette salad. The dressing tasted like jelly that was watered down, and it was very overpowering. Plus, for the amount of money that I paid for the salad, I was not impressed. When you get a side salad from Mooses Tooth, the plate is so full it ends up falling off the plate and onto the table. Worst Mother's Day meal ever! We had reservations for 1:30 for their advertised Mother's Day Brunch, which was running until 2:00. We were seated right at 1:30. By 1:50 not one person had stopped at our table. A waitress came then and brought us their regular menus and was going to take the Mother's Day menus away. We told her we were there for the brunch...she said it was "over." We told her that we had been waiting since 1:30 which was well before the 2:00 end time. We told her we wanted to speak to the manager. About 8 min. later the manager came over with the regular menus, and said they had been slammed and they "were out of the brunch items." I asked...."Are you really out of eggs or does the grill just want to change out?" She said "Yes...we are out of eggs." She did offer that they would cover the cost of our lunch. Nice gesture but we really wanted brunch. Between the 4 of us, we ordered 3 small pizzas and a calzone. In the half hour we waited, we counted the 4 tables around us being served....guess what?......BRUNCH...with eggs! Needless to say we now knew the manager had lied. When our order arrived, all three pizzas were stone cold and the calzone was absolutely raw dough. None of us ate hardly anything. The waitress did not come to check on how our meals were. When she did arrive, she wanted to know if we needed to-go boxes. NO. Overall, the whole experience left us hungry, knowing we will never step foot in there again. The manager's excuse for "being slammed" doesn't really fly....you had to have reservations for brunch so they would have had full knowledge of how busy they were going to be. Not sure why those around us could have brunch but we got cut off because it was getting close to 2:00. The table behind us was complaining about the poor food quality . Not sure what the draw to this place it. We had visited there twice when they first opened up years ago and it was terrible both times. Went with a good friend on Friday night. We had about a 40 minute wait, was expecting this since it is a new restaurant. I would say Firetap is a cross between Glacier Brewhouse and the Moose's Tooth. Drink prices are a bit spendy and food prices are OK. Unfortunately there is nothing at Firetap that stands out. Service was OK, food was OK and decor was OK. Ran in to alot of people I know while there and general consensus was "Whats all the hype about?". Gluten free menu items seem to be reasonably so, as I have had no problems with this location. The staff seem in general to be well-trained and knowledgeable, and I appreciate their ability to suggest other gluten-free drink options when the cider I ordered wasn't available. Sometimes gets a bit noisy, which is hard when there with my father who is a bit hard of hearing, but all in all a place I really don't mind returning to. This is the O'Malley location. The one on Muldoon is a whole other ball of wax and I won't be going to that one again despite it being far more convenient. read more

Firetap is a large space, with a fair number of TV's and I could see coming here for football games, drinking a few pints and maybe eating a couple appetizers or a pizza. Good beer selection. Pizzas are a couple steps below Moose Tooth. Other food is of "bar food" quality. Our server was attentive and friendly. I suppose it all depends on who you get and the mood they are in. Gave it a couple visits to see if it got better. Two bad pizzas - the Thai pizza didnt have any Thai flavor. The other pizza was under cooked and bland. Tried the cajun chicken and sausage pasta and the sauce was overspiced, the chicken was precooked, dry and just thrown in the sauce, the sausage was overcooked to the point of being grainy... I make better cajun pasta at home in 20 minutes... Only the kids liked their food, service was ok. Last time we go here... read more

I have heard a lot of good things about this restaurant and I was really excited to finally go with my boyfriend on a day off. My excitement stopped as soon as we walked through the door. My significant other and I walked in and there was no hostess at the hostess station. There also seemed to be some sort of mess behind the station, which wasn't appealing. A hostess finally came over after a few minutes and asked us if it was just us two in a tone that inconvenienced her. She sat us down and then went back to her spot near the back of the restaurant, chatting with others. Our waitress came over and took our drink order, but she didn't seem happy about it. When she returned with the drinks, we weren't quite ready to order. The menu was a good size, but the prices seemed a little silly. We were on a date, but we were also planning a movie and putt putt; I didn't wanna blow all my money on dinner! However, we decided on the Island Style pizza about 30 seconds later and waited for at least five to ten minutes to order. Our waitress was at the bar, chatting up a customer. She then got up and checked on her other tables and then came to us. Our pizza was the fastest service we had. It was okay though. The crust was crunchy and yummy and the sauce was good, and there were thick slabs of Canadian bacon on it, but WAY TOO MANY PINEAPPLE PIECES. And the pineapple pieces were an afterthought, kinda thrown on afterwards, which wasn't pleasant because they weren't cooked at all, so it added way to much sweetness to the pizza. And the cheese tasted a little funny, like very processed. After finishing it took another five to ten minutes to get our check. Which was silly. The restaurant was so empty that it was unreal to wait so long for everything. This place could be great, but the staff needs to focus more on WORKING and not on SOCIALIZING. read more

Went here a few weeks ago. The menu sounded great, but in execution was pretty meh. We got the baked cheese appetizer which was just melted cheese and jar of roasted peppers and kalamata olives heated up in the oven with some pita bread... for like $12. I tried to get a Calzone but they said that they weren't offering them yet (which is funny since people on here had been getting them...). I tried to get a pizza on wheat but apparently they weren't offering THAT yet either. The pizza I got had a cream based sauce which was tasty, but that's all you could taste on the entire pizza. I did not get a plate with my pizza, which I thought was kind of weird. The lady friend got the fettucine alfredo and the alfredo sauce was thoroughly meh, tasted like it was out of a jar. For the price, the wait, the sub par service all for food that was unremarkable in every way, I'll pass. I'll give them another shot in a few months and hopefully they'll have fixed some of their issues. I'd love another nice restaurant within walking distance of my home! read more

Been to Firetap a few times and just would get the nachos and beer. Their nachos are the best I have ever had. We decided last night to go and try something new cause their menu looks really good. We started with the pretzel. It was the best damn pretzel I have ever had as well. We got a large pizza half Americano and half chicken Florentine. I like this place for atmosphere more than anything. The room is large and inviting, with art on walls, very clean, lots of windows -- go before sunset, it will feel great. It feels like being in a larger city, while the waiters are still Anchorage-friendly :) It's also close to the southern Alaska Club and is a good spot after a hike south of Anchorage -- you get off the highway at O'Malley and here you are, within a moment. Eats and drinks are not too bad. I like the beer that they offer, but can't speak for it like an expert, since I am not a beer buff. The food is hit-or-miss--salads aren't bad but not outstanding, thin-crust pizza, satisfyingly crunchy and tasty with a hard apple ale; lasagna, however, was 80% cheese. But all in all, not expensive and fairly good for the price -- on the other hand, other places on the South Side, like Southside Bistro, can be expensive and the food can be not-so-great for what they charge. read more

I found the atsmosphere to be open, and it had the perfect variety for all of my co-workers for our Christmas party. The food was delicious, and the customer service was outstanding. I ate light and had a house salad, which was loaded with fresh veggies. It was nice to have a salad that wasn't all lettuce. My co-workers ordered burgers, mac and cheese, pulled pork, and a rueben sandwhich. Everyone was pleased with their selection.
