First time I had the buffalo chicken salad and it was incredible. 2nd time I had the Cesar and it was okay. I also got the beggars purse I believe it was called and it was absolutely terrible!! One of the worst deserts I've ever had. I ended up bringing it home and throwing it away. My lunch date tried to order a burger and was told they were out of burgers...? In the middle of the afternoon? The BLT he got instead was all pretzel bun and barely any stuff in it- he didn't complain but I thought it was skimpy & out of proportion. As a place to gather and hang with friends after a corn hole tournament at the nearby sportsplex, this certainly is a great place to meet. The beer list is long and includes great variety. They even had the Belching Beaver Peanut Butter Milk Stout which is off the shelves of Brown Jug as fast as they are on. There is also a very decent wine list. The service is also very nice, though a little slow at times. I'm not crazy about the food, but I also haven't tried the pizza yet. I'll have to try it out. Neither the chili or pork nachos have been exceptionally tasty. Normal bar food style. The restaurant seems very clean and almost had this sparkly quality to it with the lighting by the bar. I'm somewhat surprised at the low ratings. Sure, the main menu is pricey and it's not necessarily the finest dining experience, but I think everything else makes up for it. This restaurant has plenty of seating - tables, booths, and the bar - without feeling too cramped. I like the decor, particularly the dog paintings on the walls. Large windows offer plenty of natural lighting, and it's a nice place to watch the sun set. Also I like that it's open later than most places in town. They have happy hour every day at 3-6pm and 9-close, which is more often than any other place in town that I know of. There's a menu of house cocktails for $5.75 as well as discounted appetizers. Great local beer selection as well. I usually come here later in the evening to order a cocktail and an appetizer with a friend. I have tried some entrees from their menu, which were okay but generally not worth the price point. The Firetap Fett was too oily for my liking but otherwise decent. The Cajun Fettuccine, topped with a flavorful cream sauce, was more enjoyable. Sit at the bar for the best service. The bartenders have always been friendly and attentive. Table service tends to be a bit slower and servers can be harder to get a hold of. read more

So I decided to give this place another chance. I had pretty much abandoned it a year ago for what I thought was mediocre food and service. Met some friends there at their request and was like ok here we go. It wasn't busy when we went and service was prompt. I ordered the Cajun fettuccini and my hubby got the French dip. I was pleasantly surprised to hear my husband say that he was happy. Over time we had the same feelings about the place. To my surprise the fettuccini was good. It had a good flavor and the chicken and sausage in it we're cooked perfectly. The others we were with enjoyed their dishes as well. They said it's one of their favorite places to go. For now I'm saying redemption! I've been 3 times in a couple of weeks and it's been consistent. I also like the new little room in the front. I came down here this past Thursday to catch a football game. Initially, I was reluctant to come down here based on the amount of negative reviews I have read from others on this place. I decided to give them a chance since I've never eaten at this restaurant before. FireTap Alehouse is located on the corner of Old Seward and O'Malley in a small shopping plaza that also houses Yogurt Lounge and SteamDot Coffee. The place was moderately packed when I arrived and I had no problem getting a table close to a TV screen. The hostess was friendly and quickly had me seated. A waitress came by shortly after to take my drink order and gave me a few minutes to check out the menu. I decided to start with an appetizer called the Oven Baked Mediterranean Spread (Chevre cheese, roasted red peppers, roasted garlic, and Kalamata olives served on a hot plate with baked flat bread). This tasted phenomenal with the mix of roasted garlic cloves that complemented the tanginess of the Chevre cheese. During the game, more people showed up and soon the restaurant was filled to capacity. This I where I decided to leave this review at two stars rather than three. The waitress that originally helped me had turned me over to another server without saying anything and I spent the better part of 30 minutes trying to flag the original server down to order food during halftime before another waitress told me she was taking my table without explanation. I was a little annoyed about the abrupt change and I soon found out this waitress was not as good as the first one that helped me. When the halftime show came on, I was ready to order one of their pizzas. I sat there patiently looking at her while she continued walking back and forth without acknowledging me. She must've gone by my table several times while I indicated that I was ready to order. The third period started and with my patience running out, I flagged her down as she was walking by. She expressed surprise that I was trying to order more food. I wasn't buying that since I told her earlier that I was planning to order for the second half of the game. She stopped to take my order and with my patience being tested as well as my appetite almost spoiled for waiting so long, I decided to try the Steak and Blue Pizza (grilled Angus steak strips, mozzarella, blue cheese crumbles, roasted garlic, and sliced tomatoes on an olive oil crust topped with fresh basil). The pizza didn't take long to arrive and my irritation soon dissolved as I ate the pizza. This was absolutely delicious with the steak strips cooked medium rare and a generous amount of blue cheese sprinkled on top of the pizza. Garlic lovers, take note.... They use cloves and lots of it to adorn the pizza. In my humble opinion, this is how pizza and pasta are meant to be enjoyed. No Italian dish would be complete without its sharp flavor. To echo the sentiments of another reviewer on this place, calling FireTap a sports bar would be a little bit of a stretch. The layout of their seating area is full of tables and booths more suited for a fine dining atmosphere rather than watching sports on TV. The TV screens are few and far apart from each other which tells me they don't carry the NFL Ticket and that this is not the ideal place to watch football on Sunday. I would've given this place a higher rating had there been better customer service from the servers. However, the overall experience was saved with how good the food was and that I enjoyed watching the game. I will come back for the food and hopefully the customer service will be better the next time I stop in for a Monday or Thursday night game. I came here after passing it on the road for the last couple of years. The interior is filled with booths, tables, and a couple of bar tables. Lots of metal and windows, though it still felt like a cafeteria. I ordered a margarita and a friend ordered a G.B. blonde ale. For appetizer we ordered nachos and for dinner we ordered a large, 1/2 chipotle steak and 1/2 thai chicken, pizza. The nachos were loaded with a bunch of white cheese jalapenos, black beans, sour cream and guac. The pizzas were unremarkable. The dough, cheese, pizza toppings didn't seem very fresh, and had the feeling they were Moose's Tooth copy cats. Oh well. We went early in the afternoon but well after lunch so there really weren't many people in there. The hostess seated us at a booth (what we wanted) but left quickly before I could ask for a high chair for my toddler. I thought she was going to go get one but she never came back. I thought for sure this would be another bad visit here. The server came and we got a high chair from her right away. She was super friendly, brought out our food incredibly fast and refilled our drinks before we were halfway done with them! Our family of 3 (and a half) split a Hawaiian pizza (very good, the 3 of us had 2 slices and then there were still 2 slices to take home). We also shared a mini macho nachos which was pretty good. My toddler had burger sliders and fries which were actually really good and we had to stop my son from stealing fries. Definitely on the more expensive side which I didn't remember. I'd wanted to order the crab and artichoke dip but the appetizer was $18 (more than two lunch specials at most places). I will come back without the kids sometime. Pretzel sandwiches? On my way! I went with four family members, and we all had a good experience. Customer service wasn't fantastic but certainly acceptable and quick. I also enjoyed the ambiance of the dining area. Looking at the menu, I was excited about all the choices. I decided on the B.L.T. Pretzel sandwich, 1/2 order (which was plenty). It was simple, and for this type of sandwich that's a good thing- mayo, a lettuce leaf, some tomato, and a good portion of perfectly cooked bacon. The star of course was the house made pretzel bread! Pretty tasty. I got to taste a bit of some of my family's menu choices too. My only suggestion on what I was tasting of their soups, salads, and fries would be a bit more seasoning, but of course I know that's super subjective. We came in and ordered the chicken pot pie, it was a nasty rainy day, and it was the whole reason we came. We waited more than 30 minutes before the waitress came out and said that they "threw out the pot pie because it didnt look good". Now this would be fine if I hadn't seen a pot pie come out of that kitchen earlier. If it was out I would have appreciated honesty and not some flimsy lie. Although if they were running out, the waitress should have checked before letting us sit there FOR 30 MINUTES. Last night we stopped into the southside location just a few minutes before the kitchen was going to close and our bartender Tanner made us feel welcomed and not rushed at all. The beer and cocktail selection is impressive. We shared a large pizza and small salad. The salad was prepared perfectly and the dressing was very good. This is one of the worst restaurant experiences in memory for me, the wait staff didn't know the menu, didn't ask questions when they were unsure and didn't seem to care when they made mistakes. The food was bad, like off the back of a food services truck bad, like a five year old and a monkey could do better with play dough and food shaped cutouts bad. Ever tried wet pizza ? I have and I can tell you it's my least favorite water sport. My wife's fettuccine Alfredo could have been outdone by a college student with a can of store bought Alfredo and a package of chicken flavored ramen. I love the food, and that they are so willing accomedate so many dietary needs. My sister is a gluten free vegetarian and she had no problem eating here. I follow a keto diet (extreme low carb) and not only do they have crustless skillet pizza on the menu, they are willing to change other menu items to fit. I ordered their Euro-reuben baked in a skillet rather than on a pretzel, it was wonderful. I have also tried some of the other skillets and the are equally amazing. I was a first time visitor to Firetap Alehouse during mid afternoon on 05-06-2021. Aside from the initial friendliness of the hostess, helping me get a window booth seat, my experience was quite poor. I asked for a King's Bavarian Hefeweizen and was told by my waiter that they had run out, that they had Widmer Hefeweizen which was much the same. I relocated from the Portland, OR area to Anchorage, AK and Widmer is not the same. Ok, so they ran out, no biggie, I'll get a soda and ice water with lemon. The soda was ok - could use carbonation turned up just a bit - and the ice water arrived with no lemon. I reminder my waiter of such and he brought me a scraggly slice of lemon with his bare hand. Yikes. I proceeded to order the large Macho Nachos ($19) and I added chicken ($5.50) - $24.50 total, which has to be the highest priced nachos in Anchorage. They were terrible. While a good amount of cheese is dropped on top they are not layered well at all. Some of the corn tortilla chips under the top toasted layer were actually soggy from the black beans and corn lying on top of them. The chicken was tasteless, bland. And, the accompanying guacamole cup was pitifully small, especially for the 'large' 18 inch 'ish long dish of nachos. So, to summarize, the nachos weren't layered well, there were some soggy chips, the corn and black beans weren't hot underneath, and the chicken was tasteless. Finally, while not too busy for a Thursday mid-afternoon the place could still use an upgrade in cleanliness, specifically referencing the floor. Then, there was a gross hidden stash of trash - old face masks, napkins, etc. - located between the booth and where it went up against the window wall. Disgusting. There are certainly better nachos in town - Bear Paw would be my first recommendation, then Bear Tooth, and they are both less than $24.50. My first experience with Firetap Alehouse will likely be my last. read more

We got the Philly Dip was pretty good but nothing special, the Baked Mac n Cheese with chips on top was literally tasted like a box of Kraft Mac n Cheese with cheddar cheese and chips on top (not worth it). Our hostess sat us down with silverware and our waiter didn't come for 10min and had to wave the hostess down to get water... Our server came 5-10min later and definitely wasn't server matierial, was very quiet, didn't really ask questions and took forever to grab our checks that were literally sitting on the end of the table for 10 more mins.. The server was 150 Megan H around 12:00pm on Monday 9/02/19 and I would not recommend her. I've pretty much decided to resign Firetap to my "Never Go To Again" list. I've been there three or four times, and every time reiterates why I didn't like it before, then left me asking, "Why did I come here again?!" The food is underwhelming. Misleading, in fact. The pizza is not baked in a true wood oven like is proclaimed. You can totally see the piping for the gas in there! The menu is just so generic. There is nothing exciting or new or flavorful to consume. It's ridiculously overpriced for when you spend $11.50 on what was literally just cold, wet, noodles reheated with some cheese on top and called "crusty-roofed macaroni and cheese." Breadsticks that taste like they've been frozen, chili that had to have come from a can and deserts that I am suspiciously sure come from a box, are things I am not willing to pay restaurant-prices for. One should really be wary of a place that has such an extensive menu, with multiple options, including a dozen under their "specialties." That's what you get, though, from a place that likely buys the majority of their product pre-made from SYSCO. It would be different if the food was good and priced reasonably (considering from what it's made from), but it's not. What a deceptive illusion that this place is worth the money one spends. I think Anchorage folk will soon come to realize that the Firetap flame will fizzle out, and they'll quickly pass it up for another local place that has authentic food, and beer that isn't a buck more than any other place in town. read more

My boyfriend and I tried the Firetap twice. Once on Tuesday and then again on Saturday with friends. Our first experience, our server was wonderful, drinks arrived on a timely manner, and so did the food. We both ordered pasta - I had the Italian Sausage Piccante and my boyfriend had the Penne Pesce. Although I enjoyed the pieces of Italian sausage in my pasta, I thought the sauce was only "ok." It wasn't fabulous or stuck out in anyway. My boyfriend liked his Penne Pesce because of all the veggies in his pasta. He also had it for leftovers and said it was even better the next day. I took my leftovers and added my own tomato sauce, garlic, and basil. We were too full to try the desserts. Saturday - We had to wait for seating but found a place at the bar - drinks came out in a timely manner but the friends we invited to join us found their 4-5 specialty beers to be over priced...usually $6.50 or so, they were charging between $10 and $11 so they stuck to the usual beers from Moose's Tooth and Sleeping Lady. I am not an expert on beer, but my friends felt that nothing stood out in their beer selection, meaning that because Firetap is an Alehouse, it should have a type of beer they are know for. We were seated in a booth this time (first time was at the table) and had a different server who seemed a bit overwhelmed. We ordered our food - my boyfriend and I were sharing the Firetap Ultimate Calzone and share the Ratatouille with the table, and our friends ordered the Meatlovers Calzone, Caprese as a shared appetizer, and the Honey Ginger Chop small salad as a finish for the meal. My boyfriend and I took bets and sure enough, the server brought the salad while we ate the appetizer, and not at the end of the meal like our friends requested. Appetizers came - Ratatouille arrived in a baked dish. It was a bunch of veggies (eggplant, fire roasted peppers, tomatoes) covered in cheese and served with pita bread. It was all right, mainly because of the cheese, but I am not a fan of eggplant. The Firetap Caprese - HIGHLY would NOT recommend. The caprese was arranged on a round plate alternating mozzarella and tomato and topped off with what looked like one basil leaf chopped and sprinkled over the whole plate and then served with a basket of pita bread. $10 and no flavor what so ever, and it's not like they needed to add balsamic vinegar - the basil would be sufficient enough to give it flavor if there was any! Very plain and tasteless. The calzones were fabulous, full of flavor. They were big enough to share with someone. The Ultimate had onions, peppers, chorizo (which was spicy and delicious!), pepperoni, and cheese, and baked in the wood oven. The Meatlovers is straight forward - full of meat! We recommend the calzones, maybe because they came from the expensive fire wood oven they purchased! The Honey Ginger Chop salad - when they mean small, they definitely mean small. When you eat a salad a Moose's Tooth, their small salad is enough to eat by itself or share with someone as a light salad before a meal. This $7 salad was enough salad to feed a child who hates eating salad. It wasn't much, Tossed with mandarin oranges, dressing, sesame seeds, and then topped off with 3 slices of avocado that tasted like lime according to our friends. Firetap must have precut the avocado and soaked them in lime juice to prevent it from turning brown. This measly salad was such a disappointment - not only was it small for $7, the flavor was lacking as well. Despite its small size, our friends didn't finish it. It was that bad. Employees - for the most part, our server did his job but was a bit frazzled. I am not sure if one of the employees was a busser or server, but why are you wearing 80's sunglasses inside when the blinds are down? It does not fit in with the class that Firetap is trying to portray. The bussers also need to work on their communication with customers when they are removing plates. They were very rude. We also decided to stay for the entertainment. A band was setting up to play and didn't even start until 11pm. Note to the Firetap and the band - bands start playing around 9 or 10pm, not 11. The band was nice minus the singer. As for my boyfriend and I, we might go to Firetap again for a calzone, but our friends were so disappointed that they are not sure if they would step foot again in that restaurant...who knows, maybe time will help make improvements. P.S. Where are the comment cards at Firetap? It would seem crucial to a new restaurant to know what people think and give suggestions - instead we have to post on an online site for the WORLD to see how and where improvements need to be made. read more
