After over 30 years of utilizing this location, our family will never be returning here after a string of dishonest, rude, and simply shocking levels of appalling behavior. My family and I have been coming here for years for a variety of needs, from tire changes, to oil, and a lot more. I personally started noticing issues with the quality and customer service a few visits ago, when I received some bad brake pads that started failing within a few months of receiving them with minimal use. Chris was immediately critical of any feedback I gave and refused to do anything to help me with my brakes, almost immediately becoming defensive, shirking all responsibility, and charging an obscene amount for new ones. I still continue to have issues with my brakes. The major issues occurred within this past week, when I came in to get my AC fixed. The one good employee I worked with, Eric, was a huge help and helped me with also replacing tires; he should be the one running things and I will fully vouch for him and his abilities. Kinfe (sometimes goes by Ken) was initially pleasant and helpful, even working hard to help me find a new AC compressor when they found bigger initial issues with the AC; he initially was going to either charge me $800 for a brand new unit or $500 for a refurbished one, but then make the extra effort to find one for under $400, which I graciously accepted. We had to set up an appointment for the following day to separately take care of the AC since it was going to take longer than we initially planned. Yesterday I got another call from Kinfe, telling me that Chris came into the office and claimed that they didn't charge enough for the AC compressor and was going to force me to spend $500 even though I had already been made another offer. He also postponed my appointment for the weekend as well. I tried to talk to the issue out over the phone, to no avail. I then went back in-person to further discuss the issue. I tried to talk to Chris about the issue, telling him that I had already been quoted something else and switching the price around after the fact was not OK. He said that it didn't matter and that he was going to charge me more since there has been a pricing issue, but I told him that this wasn't fair. He tried to reason that the original price I had been given was $500, but I gently pointed out that this was for a different unit from a different location. He didn't care though, telling me that it was the same thing and became upset and abrasive, sarcastically muttering under his breath that it was the same thing even though it wasn't. I remained polite but firm throughout our exchange, highlighting for him that this was breaching our agreement and ruining the integrity of the business. He finally became extremely abrasive and angry as he relented, snapping at me as he told me that he would honor the agreement after all before storming out of the room. Suddenly, Kinfe became extremely rude and unprofessional as well, verbally saying "wooooooooww" at me in a derogatory fashion, becoming extremely sarcastic and verbally upset with me for holding them to their promises. He then ran after Chris, yelling and demanding why they couldn't just deny me service as a customer. They behaved this way in front of other customers as well and it was extremely scary and unprofessional. It made me fearful, not only for me but for my car, and I no longer felt that I could trust such people with my vehicle. I immediately found a respected locally owned machine shop and found an excellent mechanic who fixed the car for me and went above and beyond, and I canceled my appointment with Firestone. Not only did they lose my business, they lost the business of my entire family who have also used this location and it's services for over 30 years. We will never be returning here and we have warned everyone we know to stay far, far away from this place and it's dishonest and volatile employees. read more

Living in La Mesa for 50 years now. Not sure what happened to Firestone La Mesa, I trusted and purchased many services , tires, parts from them for multiple years. No more. Will not be back. Last two or three visits I was disappointed. My last visit I pulled up to get simple fluids and air checked for a trip my family spontaneously wanted to take next day. Got crazy attitude from couple of mechanics, one that I believe was in charge. Long story I don't even care to go into, but I left getting nothing done. It's how businesses go under over time. (????) Let's face it, Firestone is good to get tires and maybe an oil change. When this place used to be express tires they tried to rip me off all the time. They got a new manager who has been great and I've been taking my car there over the last few years. My old cars dash lights were blinking on and off. I took the car in to see what was wrong. They quoted me $3,000 for a rack and pinion and ABS sensor. I got another option at my regular mechanic and the problem is I need a new alternator and belt which will cost $400.00. If I paid the $3,000 my car still would have problems because it wouldn't of fixed the problem! I no longer have faith in this location and feel since I'm a female I was getting taken advantage of. Horrible experience! Took my truck in for tires and an inspection. First they ordered the wrong tires (didn't check the truck first), then gave it back to me, but said they checked out all the fluid levels and they were good. Later that day, the truck overheated because the raidator was empty! When I took it back the next day, they changed the tires and said the inspection was good, eventhough they didn't provide the documented test results. The next day, the check engine light came on. Never going back, eventough it's only 5 minutes from my house!! They don't seem to care about their customers, no attention to detail. Oh, they also forgot two valve caps. read more

I came here for a simple oil change and that's what I got. I didn't have an appointment so I wasn't for sure how long I would have to wait. The employee Craig took care of me and I was in and out within a hour. There were several cars ahead of me and Craig was still able to get me out of there in a timely manner. I haven't had any major work done here because I stick to my mechanic in Oceanside. While I was waiting I overheard a customer questioning why his bill was so high. I had a great experience at this location. Had a flat tire a month or so ago and when I went to another Firestone, the team put a new tire in my car and sent me out the door. I was told I'd need to get a second one replaced to balance it out. When I came to this firestone, the really helpful associate let me know I needed all tires replaced since it's an all-wheel drive. He apologized for the other location's recommendation and gave me a new set at a really great deal and bought back the tire from the other store. I thought the team was really nice and I appreciated their help. Will come back for any tire issue I may have in the future. read more

It would be lower than one star. First took my car in to an Orange County Firestone, I had to use this La Mesa location and deeply regret it!! Prior to being at the FS location in OC two days before visiting La Mesa FS, I was asked to pay ANOTHER scoping fee which the mechanic at this location tried to argue with the guy from OC (after spending nearly 6K on repairs). NOTHING was done about the noise. OH and The lack of customer service is seriously disappointing and disturbing. Everyone I came into contact with (minus someone named Eric) was incredibly RUDE and sarcastic for NO reason, laughing at my question and concerns too. If you hate your customer service job this much you should quit. This La Mesa location is a JOKE and a cash grab. Avoid it like the plague. read more

Extremely rude! I initially scheduled an appointment online, but then got a phone call because apparently that time slot wasn't available, even after it being open on their website! When I called back to reschedule, I was left on hold forever so I hung up and decided to rebook online through their chat service. I scheduled everything successfully through the chat and then got a rude phone call from Chris. He first made a comment about my multiple appointments and how he had to clear those up (when I had already done so online through their chat system). Then blamed the call center. I also have a breathalyzer in my vehicle and he made the remark of "oh were you the one that had the breathalyzer" (because I disclosed it initially when scheduling) and after saying yes he immediately changed his tune and said they wouldn't service my vehicle and that his guys wouldn't touch it, which is odd because the one in National City did it just fine. He then snarked back with "it's up to the discretion of the service center." Code for just not wanting to do it. The unfortunate part is we purchased the lifetime warranty alignment deal through this center and should not have been discriminated against due to an additional technicality in the vehicle. I wasn't even offered any other solution or assistance. I always plan on waiting at the center to help start the vehicle so they can move it in and out, but his ignorance and rude tone in disregarding helping me was extremely poor customer service. It's a breathalyzer, not rocket science. Learn to educate yourself and your staff so you can be better equipped to assist your customers or present other solutions! I bought tires here less than a year ago and got the lifetime alignment deal. Today, I went to get an alignment and my tires rotated, which comes to a grand total of $0. I dropped my car off and walked home to wait for a call that it was done. About an hour later, I get a call from my service advisor (or whatever they're called) and he tells me that: 1. My car is overdue for a coolant flush, which will be about $160. 2. My serpentine belt is all cracked and needs to be replaced, which will be $170. 3. Two of my tires need to be replaced because the treads are too low, another $375. (Keep in mind that my tires are less than a year old!) Well, I didn't believe any of this but asked them to make a note of it. About 20 minutes later, I get a new call that my alignment and rotation are done. When I got home with my car, I asked my husband, A MECHANIC, to look at the car and check everything that Firestone said was wrong, and not a single thing was true. Great place for tires, especially if you catch one of their promotions, but do not trust a word they say about any further problems. Also, check your tires yourself if they say you need to replace them, because chances are that they are exaggerating and just trying to take your hard-earned money. read more

Two years they have been my go to mechanics, no longer about a month ago I went on the app made an appointment to get a standard oil change. They were too busy and had to reschedule me,.... not a problem. Went back on a Saturday and they were able to fit me in. Standard oil change I was happy. A week goes by and I am parked on a steep hill and I notice I have an oil leak. This prompted me to check the oil levels, I have none. I call them up and they say bring it in. All this is routine but its what the manager said to me that really got to me. "Due to wear and tear the threads in your oil pan have been stripped" "You need a new oil pan that's gonna run you 250 dollars" "Im gonna go ahead and give you the new oil for free and "the only plug we had was too loose so this is only going to give you a couple days protection" I got protection for a couple days and was happy for that but I knew everything he just said to me was a scam. As I got my keys the last thing he said to me was "I misquoted you the oil pan, because of the labor its going to run you 600 dollars" As a gentlemen I thanked him and afterwards took my car to another mechanic who charged me 100 dollars to rethread the threads in my current oil pan. I knew this the whole time he was talking to me The very last thing I said to this guy was "Wow if I only got a couple days to come up with the money I got to go figure things out and you will be hearing from me. My car was towed there after breaking down on the way home from work. I randomly picked the place near where I broke down (after hours). I called them around 7:30 the next morning, worried that they couldn't fit me in. They were happy to fit me into their schedule. I had an estimate by 9:30, and even though I couldn't afford everything they recommended, they figured out a way to get my car running and safe within my budget. Chris and Dave were super friendly and polite, and went above and beyond to make sure I had a great experience there. They were knowledgeable, funny, and really good at their jobs. I was initially greeted but left hanging for longer than I would've liked. The gentlemen helping me was in the middle of something when I arrived. The two other stations empty and no other representatives in sight. The part that did not sit well with me was that he took a phone call He then proceeded to assist the caller on top of me waiting for him to finish whatever unfinished task he was wrapping up. When we inspected the car one of the individuals made a comment that was unwarranted about a competitor. As if they trying to swindle me to replace the tires. This was actually not the case. The competitor noticed an abnormal issue and had me check with the manufacturer about my warranty. This was the reason I stopped in because the manufacturer of the tire instructed me to. The lot is small with less than a handful of spots including the handicapped stall and only a few install bays. When I left there were at least three other people in creative unpainted parking scenarios. Parking can be a struggle. I would call ahead to discuss appointments before just dropping in as their workload could go either way. read more

My car was displaying low tire pressure sign so I called Firestone at La Mesa. At first they told me they are busy and that I have to get an appointment for next day. I went in the next day at the exact time of my appointment but Kinfe was in the front counter doing some paperwork totally ignoring me. While I was standing there he was answering phone calls. He picked up more than 5 phone calls while I am standing in his shop waiting to be helped. Finally some one looked at my tire and told me that there were 2 nails in my tire and therefore he cannot patch it as it is unsafe and against company policy. Super unfriendly service. The first gentleman made me wait ten minutes before he would even acknowledge me. I went in to price a set of 4 tires that I planned to buy. I had one tire that was a concern due to normal wear and still around 10,000 under the warranty. I bought the tires in 2011 and have only put around 25k on the car since then. Anyway, I was hoping to have the one tire replaced since the first gentleman agreed that it was "totally worn out." He looked at the tire and just walked away from me and headed back into the store without any comments. The basic courtesy of communication is not that hard. Long story short, he called the manager over who wanted to give me a great deal by upselling a set of 4 tires for around $535- that by all accounts I didn't even need. I feel like fighting me tooth and nail to avoid replacing a $40.00 tire to give me some peace of mind was a foolish business move. I would have come back to buy a set of 4 new tires, but they made me feel so foolish for buying the "bottom of the line" tires that they actually recommended in 2011 that I would prefer to go to a shop that actually puts the customer first. The impression that I was left with was, unless you drop $500 or $600 bucks, they won't even bother with a smile. They couldn't be bothered. *If Firestone doesn't stand by ALL of their own products, even the lower end tires- then they shouldn't sell them.* I am hoping that the left front tire that the Manager said is "fine to drive on" doesn't blow and kill my family. I got a quote from an independent garage ($279) and Pep Boys ($458). Oh, and Firestone charged us $29 to diagnose the battery problem and another $29 for the starter quote. read more

Last night I drove to the closest Firestone after work during the rain because my windshield wiper broke off on my communte home. I had just gotten new ones installed at the Convoy Firestone so i dont know why it flung off!! I was so overwhelmed because i couldnt see in the dark and in the pouring rain. I spoke with the Tech at La Mesa who was so patient and helpful and explained my situation. He told me that the Convoy location had installed a cheaper windshield wiper but charged me for the premium after looking up my account. He helped me out by fixing my wipers and encouraged me to reach out to management at the Convoy location. I will be going to the LA MESA Firestone from now on. They have great customer service and really took the time to make sure I was good to go. read more

Completely objective. My appt for an oil change was at 2. My car was taken back into the stall at 3. It was taken off about 3:30 so I waited for them to tell me my car was done. Didn't hear anything. I asked the sales rep or person at the front of my car was done at about 3:40/3:45. He said it should be done soon as it is in the stall and went to check. (My car was already in the stall so I was just confused why it was back in the stall). 3 mechanics were surrounding my car and the sales rep (I think John) were talking for a few minutes. He comes back and says "have you had problems with your check engine light?" And I didn't know what he meant. I responded "has it come on? Yes. Did it come on right now? No. The only light that came on was my oil change light" he said okay and said he would get them to reset it and drive it around the block. He said he wanted to make sure that nothing was wrong with the car. I left at 4:20. Overall I think an area for improvement is communication and sticking with appointment times. I was unaware they were looking at anything in my car and would like to have been told. Oil changes don't take 2 hours so I was a little annoyed. I do appreciate that they were making sure everything was fine but if the check engine light WASNT one before I arrived and it WAS ON after they changed the oil, the only thing I can assume is that they did something during the oil change and wanted to cover their butts. read more

Needed an oil change. They said an hour and I was out in an hour. They made basic recommendations but did push or try to upsell me. So I made an appointment to get tires on another car a week later. Again I was in and out with no pushiness or upselling; only recommendations they said were things to pay attention to in the future. The car I put tires on is not my main car, so I didn't want expensive tires. They recommended SureDrive tires from Bridgestone and though it's only a couple hundred miles so far, they are quiet, comfortable and have good road grip. I live in SoCal and it's summer so I can't comment on rain or snow, but they're good so far on dry roads. read more

The service person who sold me my tires was great and friendly. Unfortunately $850 for a set of tires for my truck and they don't even clean off the mess they make when applying the tires. It looks like a bird pooped on all four tires. My rims look scratched- no warning of having any of that on the tires. They leave the mess for you to clean on brand new tires. read more
