Brought my PT Cruiser into La Mesa Automotive N Alignment to get a Hub replacement. My car was making a very loud scary noise. The right front tire was loose and had a lot of play. Eric and his team took care of the right front passenger side Hub replacement and tightened the driver's side which is also getting loose. Will need to replace driver's side Hub in the future. As a supervisor for a customer service department, I truly appreciate excellent service, and Wayne did not disappoint. They got me in and out the same day and even performed a full inspection. I was referred here by Discount Tire Company because my alignment was very screwed up. The inside of my front tires were wearing off badly. I made a 9 am appointment, but I came in at 8:30 to drop off my vehicle. Even though I came in early, they started on my vehicle right away. I left for a walk and when I returned 45 minutes later my vehicle was already done. They completed a 4 wheel alignment in a great reasonable amount of time and since it was a referral, they charged the agreed rate with Discount Tire at $49.99. Plus the price was out of control it was ridiculous how much they were going to charge me. I feel like this business takes Advantage of people especially if you're a woman. I recently purchased a new 2013 car and wanted to install an aftermarket Eibach spring kit to lower it. After doing a little research and the fact that La Mesa Automotive & Alignment is near my house I decided to stop by and get a quote. I had received a quote from another shop and after talking with Mark (sorry I can't recall any of the other folks names), he agreed to match their price! I felt comfortable leaving my car in their hands since they are very knowledgable, willing to discuss your needs, and their shop is clean and orderly. I am very particular about my car, or anything else for that matter, but the proof is in the results. I didn't have to wait long before I got the call to pick up my car. My car looked awesome and it was done right! This may sound like a simple thing, but they installed camber bolts while doing the alignment which helps ensure that my ride stays as close to stock geometry as possible, which some of your more shady shops wouldn't do. There was a slight mix-up in whether bolts were included in the price but they didn't give me a hard time nor try to stick it to me at the last minute. Earlier today, I took my car to La Mesa Automotive (LMA) for the first time and it will surely be the last time. And, before I go any further, I just want to make you aware that when they offer ride service to their customers it's only one way. You need to find another way back. I live about a mile and a half from LMA. Imagine that, over the years, I have had my cars serviced by numerous dealers and repair shops. They have always offered both ways, but not LMA, both sad and ridiculous. I received a coupon card in the mail from LMA offering air conditioning service for $89.95. It seemed like a good deal, but it was anything but that. Now, I'm not an expert on automotive mechanics by any stretch on imagination, but I know just enough to know when something isn't right. A couple hours after I dropped my car off, I received a call from Nick. He delivered the news that the condenser needed to be replaced, new valves and it needed to be recharged with Freon at an eye popping price of over $2,800. Now, I've owned many cars, and I've never paid anywhere near that for any kind of service. I paid $1,100 for a new water pump a little over a year ago. I did a little research on condensers and the average price including labor seemed to range between $500-$1,000. Ok, throw in another $500 for fixing leaks, valves and Freon and it comes to maybe $1,500, but $2,800? It gets better, then they threw in a list of recommendations, new rear tires? They're just a little over a year old and have tons of tread left. Then replace rear engine mount, replace right engine mount and replace transmission mount. Huh? Replace cabin air filter, vehicle has oil leaks, replace engine coolant, transmission flush. I believe I replaced coolant last year and I only drive 12 minutes to my office when not working from home. Now, I have my car serviced and oil changed by a nearby automotive repair shop nearby 3 to 4 times a year. My last service was around 4 months ago. I had my oil changed, multi point inspection and front brakes replaced all for $429.96 and they never mentioned that any of the things LMA said needed attention. I've been going there for a couple years now. And wow, they provide rides both ways! If I had agreed to all to LMA's recommendations, I would have been in for I think close to $5,000. Gouging a first time customer and running up the tab is a really stupid and clueless way to do business. The only offering one way rides and recommending replacement of perfectly good tires were the final tip off. I didn't know about the over the top recommendations until I read the invoice. I paid $20 to my hired driver for the ride back and $89.00 just to get my car back. But, I feel that in the end I got of cheaply. My advice would be if you should receive a coupon from LMA, tear it up and ignore it. It's just a scam to get you in there so they can ramrod you and take you to the cleaners. read more

I found this shop to be extra expensive . They marked up a part by 100%. I recently had a starter replaced for my Honda CRV. The cost was 644.00$. They charged me 345.00$ for the part. When I looked up starters on Google I found them ranging from 67.00$ to 245.00$ Does the term "price gouging" ring a bell? Nick, the repair advisor was polite and the work was well done, however the inflated price was not fair. I will not return to this shop for any repairs on the four vehicles I own. If you have money to waste then the this is your shop. If you want a fair value for your auto repair money then try another shop. read more

I brought in my axle to have the wheel bearing removed. Mark (owner) removes the bearing and tells me the hub is unrepairable. No problem so far. I told him that I would order the part (not a common bearing or hub) from Virginia. Even though I told Mark that I was going on vacation he was insistent that my new bearing would be fine while being away and I could pick it up when I got back. Anyway long story short he can't find it when I came back and even give him a week to track it down and surprise surprise he didn't. Literally had to yell/ talk shit (after being more than nice) to get my money back. Never have I been so mad at a mechanic in my whole life. I was referred here by my mother in law last year. So I figured we give it a try, and have been back since then.! These guys have taken care of us and show great care and respect towards us ( women) and that is something most ladies are always skeptic about, but I can personally say that here you do not have to worry about getting ripped off by high prices and all the non-sense that comes with it. Leo is always there and greats us with a smile, and always has some good advice as well as all the mechanics there! we had an issue with our hood not opening for the smog check place next door, and these guys came running to the rescue, after we were done they took the car to the shop and fixed the issue! Within 24 hours of an extensive $4500 service on our 2003 Volvo, we encountered a transmission problem that required the car to be towed back to the garage. Marshall, the shop manager, along with one of his mechanics, Steve, were just as concerned as we were that there was an issue, and quickly discovered that they had unknowingly received and installed a defective part. Wiithout question, Marshall offered to replace and reinstall the part at no cost and have our car ready the following day. The reality is that auto repair isn't always cut-and-dry. My 2005 Dodge Neon braking down was an additional stressor that came at a bad time financially, especially as I had just brought it into La Mesa Auto a couple weeks prior to get some work done. While the new engine error code was not like the previous one new owner Wayne Madsen took a deeper look into the problem anyway as a professional courtesy. I brought my car in to get some work done and 4 weeks later I am leaving with nothing done on it at all. I had to keep calling them for any info. I kept getting the run around with them saying call back etc...2 weeks in i had to get something from my car and I found my keys in the ignition with the windows down. (Really? leave my car open with keys in it) When i finally had enough wait time, I asked for my keys, i was over wasting my time with them. Guess what? they were in my car in the ignition once again with the windows down in the general parking lot. I could have easy walked away with my car twice. My 1963 Ford Falcon has drum brakes and stopped slowly. After inspection and discussion, Wayne suggested installing a custom power brake booster. He also adjusted the tranny, shifter and a few minor tweaks. Upon completion, the car had more torque, smoother shifting and the brakes feel amazing. I dealt with Wayne primarily who is an expert mechanic and a classic car enthusiast himself. The whole crew was honest, informative, and charged a reasonable rate. They had no problem dealing with an aftermarket suspension and asked me about my alignment preferences. I've had two experiences with La Mesa Automotive. First time took car in for suspension work and alignment. When the car was picked up it had 65 new miles on it. Owner Mark admitted he had driven the car to La Jolla to assist another customer. He never mentioned this when I picked the car up, but came clean when he was caught. He offered to pay for the gas and we settled it as being bad judgement with his promise of a free future alignment. Should have known better! Months later I took another car to Mark for new shocks, cv/axles and motor mounts (hoping to get that free alignment he promised) . They did the work quickly and had the car ready on time. Within a mile of freeway driving I thought I was feeling slight vibrations at certain speeds but couldn't get a consistent feel. By the time the car got to Santa Cruz (450 miles) it was shaking so bad it couldn't go over 30 mph. Took it to the local Honda Dealer and the new axles/cv's needed to be replaced at a cost of over $650. Only explanation offered was that parts were damaged on installation or installed incorrectly. . Returned to La Mesa Automotive and showed Mark the bill to re-do his work and printout showing that his supposed alignment was not within specs. He initially said that they should have caught the vibrations on their test drive and offered a partial refund if I would return the following Monday for payment. When I returned Mark said he would not honor his earlier decision or his labor warranty. He just shrugged his shoulders when I asked him why he said they should have noticed the vibrations during their test drive. He also claimed that the Honda Dealer's computer alignment was wrong when it showed his alignment done incorrectly. The girls in the office are extremely nice and very accommodating. But don't be fooled in to thinking that the work being done on your car has any sort of warranty or that your car might not be used for their business purposes without your permission. read more
