The coleslaw was homemade and fresh, had a great taste and how I like. Rueben dog was much larger than expected, yummy kraut and just enough cheese, the bun was just right. Mac n cheese was great also. The brisket sandwich was large and a generous amount of meat with a good Smokey flavor. No fountain drinks, have can drinks, bottled water and can sparkling water, ( do not see that very often and is a good surprise if you prefer something other a soda or water). There is local artwork displayed on the walls as you enter. You place your order directly at the counter, take a number, and your food is brought out to your table when it is ready. The menu is quite large, and it took a bit of time to decide on my order, but I ultimately went with a combo including a half ham wrap, a drink, and a side of pasta salad. The cashier was very good about openly telling everyone in line about price differences from the printed menu before ordering. Because the kitchen was experiencing a significant delay, it seemed like they quietly upgraded me to a whole wrap as a nice peace offering! It came cut into two parts, with one part wrapped neatly in foil. Personally, I really wish they offered a "build your own" option where you could just choose your own specific bread, meat, cheese, and toppings, rather than having to hunt through the large preset menu options to find a combination where you like everything. I was really surprised by how incredibly small the side portion of pasta salad was--about the size of a standard salad dressing container! I've honestly never seen a side dish served that small before, so I posted a photo of the two side by side to show the exact comparison. Next time, I would skip the combo entirely and just order the sandwich on its own. The ham wrap itself was really good, and the small bite of pasta salad was very tasty. However, it did take quite a bit longer than it should have for the food to leave the kitchen, so this slow wait time could definitely be an issue for someone on a tight lunch schedule.

The sign has faded, and could use an upgrade since I couldn't even tell it was open if not for the cars parked outside. There was a solid working crowd ordering when I walked in. The grocery store itself is just a legacy at this point. Good spice rack selection, but then the next section to stick out is a stack of DVDs and PS3 games beside some soft drinks and chip bags. It seems most customers were ordering cold meats and subs, but I decided to go with the basic burger with mustard and pimento cheese. It was heavenly. It did cost $6, which is a little on the pricy side for Morganton, but I'm happy to have finally stopped by. Definitely a hidden gem, and I'll have to check out the ham or a sub next time I'm visiting.
