It was Dine LA week and my cousin wanted to go to firefly for her birthday and to have the dine LA menu experience. I must say I use to go very often pre-Covid and had not been since then. The ambiance still the same, dine with candles and a really nice happy vibe. It's a great place to go with a group of friends as well as a date. The menu the had put together for Dine LA was superb. They had an amuse starter, prosciutto topped with dried apricot and goat cheese with a lovely liquor glass rose. It was truly lovely, for appetizers we had the meatballs in a skillet and the tuna tartar with avocado and wontons, for main we all ordered the same thing steak frites, it was cooked perfectly. Christopher was our server and he was truly the best part of the evening. He had his special style of presentation which made the experience even more pleasurable. Firefly was a great choice for a Friday night date night. The ambiance is warm, romantic, and inviting, exactly what you want when you're trying to enjoy good food and good company without feeling rushed or overwhelmed by noise. The service was excellent throughout the night: attentive, friendly, and well-timed. The food was flavorful and thoughtfully prepared, and everything came out at a pace that allowed us to really enjoy the experience. It's the kind of place that makes you want to stay a little longer and already plan your next visit before you leave. Location 4: On the busy Ventura Blvd in Studio City, CA. There is no self-parking other than metered street parking should you be lucky enough to find one. I recommend the restaurant's valet parking. Venue 4: The entrance leads you first to the reception area which features a good-sized full bar facing a cozy and sophisticated library area that serves as a cocktail lounge. The dining area is primary a large, covered patio with heaters. It can get a little chilly if you are seated in the parameters even with the heaters going. They are usually very busy. It is great that they take reservations which makes it easy to visit without long waits. Service 4: Polite and classy, friendly and attentive. You can tell that they hire servers with nice outgoing personality and proper etiquette. Have visited many times and have always had consistent high-quality service. Food 4: Modern American cuisine. For starters I recommend the French Baguette (essentially Bread and Butter for a charge :)), Blueeye Tuna Tartare, Hamachi Crudo, the Meatballs, Spanish Octopus, Artisanal Cheeses, and the Charcuterie Plate. For main courses, I recommend the Steak Frites, Mushroom Pappardelle and the Miso Cod. They offer side dishes for an additional fee, but I have found that the side condiments that come with the main course are usually sufficient. The dessert menu changes frequently, but everything I have tried have been creative and imaginative, looked great and tasted even better! Food portions are medium sized, nicely plated and delicious. I would order them all again. Food prices are on par with similar establishments but what usually gets you are all the add-ons (bread, side dishes, protein on pasta, etc. etc.). Drinks 4: Full Bar: Nice assortment of specialty cocktails, spirits, wine, beer and soft drinks. The cocktails look great, feature creative ingredients and taste wonderful. Drink prices were reasonable and on par with similar establishments. The last word 4: I gravitate towards Firefly as often as I can, be it special occasions or a casual night out. Enjoyed a surprise Birthday dessert gathering here with a group of 7 and was very satisfied! The atmosphere is by far the best aspect of the restaurant starting with the ivy covered outdoor wall and dark wooden door. Upon entering, you are transported into a very romantic and magical space with low lighting. The first area features small round tables and green velvet booths for 2 surrounded by black bookshelves. The main dining area however, has the best views and is actually outdoors with a greenhouse roof! Twinkling lights, candles, hanging lanterns and a roaring fireplace illuminate the space. Our servers were extremely attentive and brought our dessert wine and trays full of sparklers to celebrate my birthday. We ordered the entire desserts menu and it was tasty, but nothing extraordinary. The presentation was gorgeous though, which spirals of caramel and toffee bits scattered on the platter. The Lava cake was as expected, spice cake and gelato a good combo, and the chocolate cake absolutely decadent, but the white chocolate creme brulee with blueberries and passion fruit was the best to break up the monotony of rich, heavy flavors that the others relied on. I would recommend the restaurant offer another dessert that isn't chocolate or as heavy as the spice cake, so there's more balance and unique dessert options. Be aware that street parking is difficult to come by, so you may need to pay for valet parking, which thankfully is an affordable $10. read more

The food is tapas and shareable, which is always fun when you want to try a lot of different things. The meatballs and brussels sprouts are very good. The service could be a little bit better, we were slow to get water refills and our check at the end of the night, but other than that the service was just OK. Finally made it over to Firefly with our group of four this past weekend. The ambiance and vibe and food - amazing. The only disappointing part was where we were seated. I made a note on the reservation (as well as asked when we walked in) to please not be seated in a corner. We were seated in the literal corner, off the main floor, upstairs and tucked away next to a fireplace that slowly cooked us all night. Your back isliterally less than a foot away from it. When you're a group of women who rarely ever get to go out - and drive 40 miles each way to finally enjoy a night out - getting seated in a corner makes you feel so disconnected and unwanted. Our view all night was a plastic tarp wall. When I asked the hostess if we could be seated in the main room - she just had the most condescending energy, talking about having to wait another 30+ minutes. I would have happily done that and continued to pass the time in the Library area. By then I just wanted to enjoy the rest of our evening and dealt with it. We never got offered refills on our drinks. No manager walked our part of the floor or checked in. The food and DJ are what made the four stars. Crispy pork belly, tuna tartare, and crab cake, their sides are so good - I think we tried them all except one. Their rib eye was delicious, dessert was fantastic. Definitely worth a trip. read more

This restaurant was so beautiful and the ambiance was amazing, the low lights and live music on a Saturday night was just chefs kiss. We had reservations and got sat immediately, I'm not sure the wait time for walk ins but it was a little busy. There's seating in the lounge area where you can seat yourself while waiting for a table, you can also order food and drinks if you decide to sit there for dinner! Our server was wonderful and quick with her service. For dinner, we tried the steak frites, I wasn't a big fan, it was a little dry. We also got the mushroom pappardelle, I loved it i definitely recommend getting it 10/10. We ended dinner with some crème brûlée, I would give that a 5/10 the crust topping had a strong taste for my liking. We used to come here every year for our anniversary, this year will be our last. We made reservations months in advance, noting on our reso that we were celebrating our anniversary there again. We checked in a bit early and others kept getting seated before us but we figured they were waiting for our table to open up. We get walked all the way to the back room, and placed in the dead center of the restaurant, packed around others, with limited nice ambiance. When we asked if we could possibly switch to a booth seat or the main room we were told it was super busy and the booths couldn't be used for two people. (While a booth next to us had a couple seated lol). The rest of the night we watched the booths next to us stay empty, while I saw others being walked in by the manager or hostess and choosing where they wanted to be seated. Customer service ranges- the security man who held open the door was the nicest most genuine interaction we had all night, our waiter was kind but clearly stressed and running around trying her best, the guy who dropped off the dessert with a candle said "here-for you to celebrate" and ran off before we could ask for a photo. Tldr: this restaurant is fine, nice ambiance, decent food. They didn't do anything wrong, and in most situations it would have been a fine experience. That said, we're looking for a place with more of a neighborhood or small business feel -- somewhere you feel genuinely valued as a customer choosing to celebrate an anniversary there every year. This restaurant didn't really give off that kind of connection or care, and while it may be a great fit for others, it just wasn't quite what we were looking for. This spot felt more in line with the trendier, 'vibey' restaurants that can come across a bit superficial or status-focused, where the level of service seems to depend on who you are. As an identifiable LGBT person, this Studio City rockin' place made this punk rock singer feel right at home, which is not the case west in Encino and Tarzana. Cool, hip crowds, incredible ambiance, and wonderful and attentive staff makes this the coolest hang on Ventura Blvd. This restaurant anchors the far east end of the cool section of Ventura Blvd (heading east from Firefly gets a bit dirtier and grittier) but if there was a proper "anchor" for East Ventura Blvd, it is the Firefly. Incredible cocktails, a treasure trove of delicious appetizers and amazing dishes on the menu, the Kaluga Caviar and Crab Cake rocked particularily hard, but that Miso Glazed Cod and the Braised Lamb Shank...THE BEST! Ordered a round of drinks with my buddies, and soon after a lounge table opened up. We relocated, and the bar tender asked us to close our tabs and take up service with an independent server. No server arrived. Had to ask the manager to send one over. She took an order on another round of drinks, and it never came! Had to ask the manager to check on it. Our server hasn't come back again since. We wanted another round of drinks and were stopped again at the bar. The manager told us to order from our server, but I told her she was practically a ghost. The communication was just off! Such an odd vibe. Felt like we weren't wanted there, but my friends and I tried to be polite, quiet, and as respectful as possible. We ended up just leaving. The food here is really good. My wife ordered the truffle pasta and I had the sea bass. Tuna tartar was decent, nothing to go crazy over. The fried olives were delish, I don't like olives and I thought they were very tasty. The ambiance here is phenomenal, super cute and the covered outside'ish area with the little booths are very romantic. When I made the reservation I had noted it was our anniversary, when we checked in they mentioned it and we also got two complimentary small glasses of wine. I didn't reserve the booth ahead of time, but when I asked they accommodated us with no issue. The service here was unbelievable. Our waiters name was Ian, he was patient, explained everything very well and his recommendations were on point. Food came out hot and fresh, drinks were also great. Now the downsides. The chairs here are literally the most uncomfortable chairs I think I've ever sat in. Folding chairs would have been better. The backrest cuts right in the middle of your back. If you sit back like its supposed to your almost reclining. I was happy to get out of my seat and it definitely annoyed me during the dinner a bit. The other issue was the valet. I could not understand the head guy for the life of me, he mumbled everything and I couldn't understand a word, neither could my wife. It says $10 service charge but when I got my car he put $41. When I asked for an explanation I got more mumbled words that I couldnt understand. We had to leave to get our kids so I didnt argue, I used my amex so I'll definitely be disputing the charge. read more

I discovered Firefly in the late 90's. It was so great back then. Small, dark and moody, and serving the best craft cocktails before it became a thing in LA. IYKYK. It was my regular hangout. What an evolution to today. I've been away for 10 years and went there last night. Still has a such a great vibe, food and drink are still first class, as was the service. Everything just really well done. My only criticism is with the valet. The drivers are SATURATED in really toxic cologne - I could smell it the second I opened my window to ask if they used cologne, which they confirmed. I have severe fragrance allergies and asthma so I had no choice but to self-park three blocks away on 2 hr max metered spots. It was a real inconvenience, which we all know because parking in that area is tough. If I allowed them in my car, it would've been completely contaminated because fragrance sticks to everything and it's difficult to get out. That would've been catastrophic for my car and my health. When synthetic fragrance is lingering in the air, it has negative impacts on folks with respiratory issues and how food tastes too. Please do your guests this kindness and ensure your staff are fragrance free and cologne free so we can be comfortable from the moment we arrive and enjoy the awesome experience you've created. We were invited back to Firefly for another night out and this time it was absolutely fantastic. So, first, thank you to Firefly and Eric for assisting us in having a lovely evening. As was true last time, the service was wonderful and attentive. The ambiance was lovely and this time there were tarps in place to keep the heat in... which also kept bugs out! The area we were sat in was clean, as well. Definitely a better seating experience. The food, which was the largest difference between visits, was fantastic all-around. We got the lamb and short rib (lamb pictured) this time for our entrees, both of which were spectacular. Dessert, the creme brulee, was lovely as well. I was so tempted to try the mac and cheese again-- since at the first visit it was my least favorite dish-- it was leagues better than the, honestly puzzling, dish we had the first time around. And finally, the valet had a lovely new sign advertising the price of $10. We'd opted not to use valet this time around, just to avoid any complications, but it was affirming to see the change. First thing to mention is the AMAZING service we received from Narek! He went out of his way. I would come back just for him. He was warm, friendly, and attentive throughout the entire night. Other pluses included the striped crudo 6/5. I loved the colors, textures and crunch, and well-balanced flavors. The steak frites was good overall. The steak was room temperature but cooked well and tasted good 3.75/5. Narek made sure to replace it. The fries were outstanding, garlicy, crunchy, amazing texture 6/5. The eggplant was yummy 5/5. It got a bit overwhelming. Pretty sure it doubles as a grow house. But the inside is beautifully done. Back bar area and more seating I didn't notice at first. We came in during DineLA event so we took advantage of that. Our server, who is absolutely gorgeous, I was really distracted by how naturally striking she was, offered us a complimentary red sparkling wine. You can probably tell I know nothing about wine by how I described it. It had a sweeter taste to it which made it good for my unrefined wine palate. The DineLA menu had great selection. Aside from the desserts which to me were just average, the meal was phenomenal. I love creme brulee and this one was pretty lackluster. I dont like toffee so can't give a unbiased opinion of whether it was great or not. Had a signature cocktail which was absolutely delicious and the big cube of ice was keeping me from passing out from heat stress. limoncello type cocktail. Really good. Caviar was appetizer prevention was great and the dish itself was amazing. I had the pasta and that was great. Would pair well with a steak which my friend had that he chose fries as a side. Parking is a pain. There is none. Valet for 10 dollars. A great date place as the ambiance is romantic. Not so much for a dudes night out as my friend and I were out for. lol. Amazing place. I rarely go out to dinner so I've just started to go to nice, reservation-recommended restaurants once a month and this place was on the top of my list. I decided to go to celebrate my birthday and it was a decent experience. Firefly is an elegant and welcoming restaurant. The bar, the library, the dining area - all worth visiting. Me and my guests loved the cocktails and would go back even if just for the cocktails and ambiance. I will say I wish we had a different experience with the food. We waited for about 1.25 hours for the food to arrive and I jokingly told my cousins that they probably overcooked the meat due to the lenght of time it took - I was right. Now my cousins don't like bloody meat, but wanted a splash of pink and ordered medium well. They received fully cooked grey steaks. I asked the waitress her recommendation for the wagyu and she also said medium well, it arrived fully cooked and crumbly. All three dishes were overcooked, which definitely put a hamper on the night. I still wish I would have ordered the pappardelle. That being said, the appetizers (cauliflower, mussels) and fries were all delicious. If you are looking to try something new, i would still recommend this restaurant. If you are set on red meat, just make sure you explain the level of pink you want. read more

You could almost miss the restaurant when you first walk by as it is just a small door located on the side of a large bush but then, as if you crossed the bridge to Terabithia, you enter a bar space that connects to their dinner seating section. At first you see just the bar on the right and what appears to be a small library with more bar seating in the distance. Then you turn to the right from the library and you discover the rest of the restaurant, which has high ceilings, a sunroof, immaculate lighting, and a terrace-like seating area. It is unlike any other restaurant I've ever been to before and for that they get a lot of points! The food itself is good, not the best dinner I've ever had but definitely tasty and I could tell they use quality ingredients. We started with the baguette with butter which is a classic, I mean how could that not be good. We paired it with their meatballs which are made with a mixture of ground beef, pork, and veal, served in a savory San Marzano tomato gravy with Parmesan. The meatballs were super tender and flavorful and the gravy went very well with them. Loved having the baguette for dipping into the rest of the gravy. The Caesar salad was super good the lettuce was very fresh and tasted locally grown and it came with big cubes of homemade breadcrumbs. For the main, I had the Jidori chicken which came with mushrooms and sunchokes (had never tried these, very flavorful) and a rich savory sauce. I really enjoyed. The drinks were nice too, I tried the Pineapple Express and my friend had the Strawberry fields. Both very nice and refreshing. Will be back soon! read more
