I took my family to FUP for dinner last night around 8pm. We were quickly seated and I was looking at various pizzas being served adjacent to our table. They looked delicious. We ordered a margherita pizza and spinach salad and a Caesar. The spinach salad was good but overpriced for the size. The Caesar was limp with soft croutons. The margerhita was dry and skimpy with all ingredients. There was plenty of real estate on the pizza with very little sauce or cheese, and the basil was not whole Leaf, but crumbles. I commented my dissatisfaction to the server, who brought a replacement. Which to me was about the same. I will order a different item if I visit again. The server and staff were fine. read more

With so many pizza selections it's hard to choose the right one. But if you're in Durango, Colorado, the right one is fired up pizzeria. Came here for lunch on a Wednesday and it was packed. We were seated right away though, and food came out surprisingly quickly. My husband and I shared the Southwest pizza, with fennel sausage, green chile, red peppers, and red onion on a thin crust. We both really enjoyed the pizza. We also shared the wild arugula prosciutto salad, but got the house balsamic instead of the lemon vinaigrette, and we were glad we did. The balsamic with the figs in the salad was a great combo. 3.5 stars... Cool little storefront on the main drag that was filled at lunchtime, so we ducked in! Opted to split the salad and a pizza... started out with the salad, heaped with feta, olives, walnuts, and veggies...dressing was served on the side and complimented the greens well. Waiter blundered and forgot to put in the order, so there was a delay... Chose the roasted garlic sausage pizza...crispy crust, sweet smoky garlic complimented the fennel sausage and cheesy goodness. Bottom Line: Great pizza and Italian inspired dishes and attentive service. My husband and I went to Fired Up Pizzeria after a long day of hiking and sightseeing and everything on the menu looked so tempting. In the end we got the stuffed mushroom appetizer, house salad and Margherita pizza. I think the house salad was one of the best house salads I've ever had. I really enjoyed the shaved Parmesan, fresh veggies and pepperoncini. The pizza was tasty too and I appreciated the thin crust. Fired Up has one of the fancy made-in-Italy (I think) wood burning pizza ovens that cooks pizzas at super high temperatures. Fired Up has a full bar. And speaking of bar, they have bar seating, an indoor dining room, some sidewalk dining and a patio as well. I think they might even have a patio out back or a deck up top. I saw a few people come and go to order take out so it seems that is an option too. Whittney was our server and she was awesome! She was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and efficient. I definitely appreciate a server who "makes every trip count" and hustles. Parking is limited to street parking which at times seems to be a little challenging in Historic Durango. On a Monday might we were able to get a meter spot about a block away so that was convenient. Parking is free after 6pm. read more

This is our second visit to Fired up pizzeria, we were told our wait was going to be from 20 to 35 min wait but we were seated in less than 15 min, food was great my kids love their pizza and the lit dessert. Honestly, our family of 13 wasn't thrilled with pizzas. They were kind of small and the crust didn't seem thoroughly baked like other wood burning places we've enjoyed. Was hoping for some unique flavor combinations but it was really same old same old pizza options. Durango has a strong pizza game, with several good spots depending on the kind of pizza you are looking for. Fired Up, conveniently located toward the South end of Main Avenue, serves thin-crust Neapolitan-style pizza baked in their wood-fueled oven. My favorites are the plain old margherita, the Vesuvius (spicy sausage) and particularly the prosciutto Bianca - prosciutto with fresh arugula and tomatoes, among other things. They have good Colorado beer on tap, some creative cocktails, as well as a few sandwiches and salads if you aren't in the mood for a pie. Some have complained about the cost, but I think the prices are fair for what you get- a thin crust pizza that's way above the average. So good! Four different pizzas, and they were all wonderful. Brenna was a terrific server. She took orders for drinks and food and delivered all of it in good time. We didn't want for anything with her nearby. She also answered all our questions about the menu. The Smokin' Salmon "pizza" appetizer was light and tasty. We will definitely try this at home. The fennel sausage pizza was a little sweeter than the regular sausage (with green chili!) pizza. My Bianca pizza was delicious with fresh spinach. Nieces shared a Margherita pizza with chicken. Craving some fancy pizza? Look no further! I ordered the Biano Prosciutto Pizza and loved it! It was packed with flavor and I kept wanting more after each slice. Others at my table ordered Salmon salads, and they said it was good but that the salmon was a bit weird. Lesson learned here, order the pizza! My main complaint is that it's pretty pricey. My Pizza was almost $18 and while it was really good, it's just not something I can come and get all the time. The wait time that did not make sense was getting the check. It took this establishment 20 minutes to get the check. My Dad talks WONDERS about this place and makes us go here every time we visit Durango. And each time I forget how well-deserved that praise is. If you take ANYTHING from this review, let it be my overwhelming love for their goat cheese, smoked mozzarella, and jalapeño dip. I cannot stress enough how flavorful it is. The bread they serve with it is dressed very well and stands up to the strong flavors in the dip. PLEASE try it! Their pizza is about as good as it gets for this style pizza. You will not find deep dish or Brooklyn style slices here. This is just real good, plain old, wood-fired delicious crust under fresh and flavorful toppings. Their Vesuvius pie is so good. It is the perfect amount of spice and I really recommend it. They allow the red pepper flakes to bloom their heat in hot olive oil, so it brings that perfect BOOM you would expect from a pizza with a name like that. It's nothing like the superficial heat you get from the red pepper shakers on pizzeria tables across the globe. I curated my own pie this time. Red sauce base with whole roasted garlic, mushroom, sun-dried tomatoes, pepperoni, and meatballs. The meatballs, though good, are very large and rolled around and off my pizza. That's my only complaint. If they could get that heat from Vesuvius onto this pizza, it would be a PRIMO pie! Try their basil lemonade! We got their cannoli this time and oh my God, it is so good. After reading all the positive reviews I thought we had found the cure for our pizza cravings while visiting Durango. We had passed by "Fired Up Pizzeria" on our walk to and from the Silverton Train Station and decided a nice pizza dinner with a glass or two of wine would be great way to end our day after the trip to Silverton and back. We arrived about 7:30 and we're told the wait would be about 30 minutes, so we gave our name and cell number, then asked if we could sit at the bar and wait. We were then told the bar was only for having dinner and we couldn't sit there unless we wanted to have dinner at the bar; at that point we decide to stand outside and wait for a table. Once seated the friendly server came by, took our drink order and quickly retuned with the drinks, at which point we placed our order for a Caesar Salad and Pepperoni/Mushroom/Black Olive Pizza. Our server said the pizza oven was backed up and it would take about 25-30 minutes for the pizza; so we asked for the salad to be served first and wait for the pizza. When the salad arrived the romaine lettuce had several black spots and was extremely wilted, but being hungry and having waited we decided to bear thought it. The croutons were stale and dressing was definitely straight from a bottle off the grocery store shelf. The only redeeming factor was the shaved parmesan cheese. The pizza arrived as promised 30 minutes later. Coming from "Wood Fired Pizza Oven", I expected the typical crispy bottom crust and nice charred crust top around the edges; the edges were fine but the bottom was soggy and limp. Large circles of bland pepperoni were those used in deli sandwiches rather the standard pizza pepperoni served. The black olives were fine (how can you mess up black olives?), and the mushrooms were "OK". VERY limited about of cheese on the pizza and the toppings were sparse. Overall, a big disappointment. Not expecting a wine list from a gourmet restaurant, the list was bearable, but mainly "bottom shelf". I'm sure there are much better options in Durango for pizza if that's your craving. 1/5 for me (veg/gluten free) The place is cute. The service was good. Really the food was just not it. I ordered a veg/gluten free pizza and they did not try to make it good at all. It was dry, there was plastic melted in my pizza (they gave me 50% off). It was way too expensive to taste that bad.
