Ice cream sandwich

These doughnuts were absolutely delicious, soft, fresh, and perfectly sweet. Every bite was light and fluffy with just the right amount of glaze. A simple treat done right and totally worth the indulgence.

A couple of colleagues and I were here on business, it was my birthday, and we went out to dinner, but they were no desserts that seemed suitable to celebrate the occasion. One of the guys on the team recommended firecakes because he had been here in the past and thought they were awesome. I'm super glad that I agreed to give it a shot. It's not a sitdown place, it's a place where you grab a doughnut and go for a walk. She had just put out a tray of apple cider donuts, and chocolate frosted. I was super excited because I love a good apple cider donut, especially in the fall. Needless to say it did not disappoint and to be honest, I wish I had ordered two of them. Sadly, I'll be leaving in the morning for a flight so early I can't even get one for breakfast. I have already booked marked this location so I can return on future visits. To anyone looking for an awesome snack, breakfast, or just something awesomely delicious -- this is your place !!

Great donuts with a nice selection of flavors! It's a tiny shop but they still have a lot of options to choose from and make delicious donuts, especially for a popular chain. The donuts are fluffy and taste fresh. I went with the valhrona chocolate frosted and the coconut cake donut and both were great! The chocolate frosting is very rich and decadent and not too sweet- yum! The staff member was friendly as well! Love that they are open later than other shops to help satisfy the evening donut craving!

We decided to grab a quick bite and ended up walking to Firecakes Donuts. Even though the shop is small, they still offer a great variety to choose from. Unfortunately, there isn't any seating available inside.

The donuts were stale. The coffee was fine. The lady that helped us was pretty darn abrupt. When we got there (during business hours right before 11am) and there was a sign that they had stepped away. Maybe this is a one man show and that's why she was so unhappy. All in all, not impressed.

Second stop on donut tour downtown Chicago. I've always been a fan of Firecakes and they are my fav around here. As the tour guide was explaining something about the history of Firecakes cooking donuts over a fire and some family picture on the wall, my mind wandered off to thinking about how awesome these donuts were going to be! Here are my thoughts about this place: 1. Prices range between $3.55-$6.45. 2. Some delicious creative donuts are offered daily. 3. Donuts taste like made with fresh ingredients.

Probably the only dessert I really had in Chicago, but well-worth. I came by around 7am and thought it was closed, because I didn't see anyone inside; they were actually in the back cranking out more donuts. They're open at 6:30 on most days -- great for a morning pick-me-up! The shop itself is rather small, with limited to no seating, so it's really more of a grab-and-go stop. These were one of the fluffiest donuts with unique and indulgent flavors. Most donuts ranged from $3.25-$7, depending on their ingredients and labor. I ordered four, which I'll rank in the order of preference: 1. RASPBERRY LINZER TART: Tastes exactly like a raspberry linzer cookie, but fluffier. Absolutely loved this!! 2. RASPBERRY BLOOD ORANGE JELLY: Loved the flavor of the jelly in this. It's definitely deeper in flavor compared to a normal jelly donut. Also enjoyed how I got an adequate amount of jelly in each bite. 3. BLUEBERRY CAKE: The donut itself tasted like an elevated Dunkin' Donuts blueberry -- less dense and more fluffy. The whipped frosting on top was also very light and airy. 4. PISTACHIO OLD FASHIONED: They're supposed to be famous for the pistachio donut, but I felt like the pistachio flavor wasn't prominent enough. This just tasted like a normal fritter to me. Easily some of the best donuts I've ever had. The texture and quality of ingredients are distinctive features that set these apart from regular donuts. Highly recommend!

Their pistachio old fashioned donuts are out of this world and quite addictive. So happy I got two cause they were so good I couldn't stop at one. Texturally great with the pistachio crunch and the crunchy fried texture of the donut itself. They're topped with this overtly green glaze which brings the pistachio flavor front and center. They had a mix of donuts to choose from so definitely a great choice if you like trying new flavors.

Went on the Chicago walking donut tour. This was the second stop. Since it was a tour we didn't experience the service our guide took care of the samples. The vanilla donut with the vanilla beads were delicious- so apparently they won a competition award for the vanilla frosting. It was light and delicious. The Dulce donut was Caramel flavored and not too sweet. They are opened late so it is a great place for an evening treat as well as breakfast. This is definitely a must try when you are in Chicago. They also do a donut ice cream sandwich- go hungry or with a few friends and share!!

Candied organic Keylime pie filled donut and a old fashioned original donut both soft and warm freshly made daily

Their to-go window is so cute!

Love their little walk up window, but wish you could see their whole selection for the day. There were some interesting flavors that I believe rotate regularly. I decided to try the cherry almond old fashioned and peach cobbler Bismark. I usually love an old fashioned! But this one had really thick, kind of grainy icing that I didn't love. The peach cobbler had a nice peach cream in the middle but the dough was a little dry. I also got an iced chai latte and that was delicious! I took my order to go but there were 2 sidewalk tables outside. Unfortunately, they didn't have anything for doggos :(

Lots of interesting and colorful doughnuts to choose from. It's a small storefront and no seating so you get your items and go. Maybe 4 people are inside before it gets cramped. We went with the peach fritter and the raspberry filled doughnuts. I would give it 3 stars because the price was sorta high (probably due to the location and uniqueness of the flavors put together) but it wasn't terribly sweet and I think the filling on mine was more on one side of it rather than oozing out from the middle. The coffee didn't speak to me so I went around the corner to a different shop instead. If I'm back in the area I would try it again because there was a lemon filled cookie and another doughnut that was massive and cost 12 bucks that I would want to try. In total I paid about 5 dollars per doughnut.

Pretty good donut place! The chocolate frosted donut (4/5) was soft and sweet, and the chocolate frosting was the right amount of sweetness. My bf enjoyed the old fashioned (4.5/5) donut as well, good texture and just sweet enough.

Firecakes Donuts Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Firecakes Donuts

Is there a place to sit down inside?

There's an outside seating area but no place inside to sit

Do they make vegan donuts?

Yes, double chocolate coconut. I personally/typically stray away from coconut; however the chocolate and consistency of the dough itself is amazing. This just has the shavings on top that help balance it all out

Any vegan options?

Yes, they have a few options which are clearly labeled in the display case when available.

Do they offer any gluten free donuts?

They offer one gluten free/vegan option. Per the website, they are a rotating/seasonal option, so I'd give them a quick call and verify.

Is there still a good selection late at night?

Yeah I think so. They always got my pistachio. Shit is great!

The ube flavor is both sweet and nutty and the mousse topping was light and delicious. The main squeeze is lemon cake filled with lemon curd, cream cheese frosting, and a buttercream lemon on top. Both were incredible, but my favorite was the lemon! I loved that the lemon flavor was light, and the cream cheese frosting balanced it out really nicely. The space is so cute inside! It's also a lot larger than I was expecting. We grabbed a seat at one of the tables inside to enjoy our treats. I will definitely be back with my toddler for a cupcake date soon!

When I got there, the line wasn't as crazy as I've seen photos of, but it was still long. You get to walk inside past the line for online pick up. There's a sign on the counter. They make any drinks you order fresh when you get there, and it's really quick too! Service was very friendly and fast inside! The ube latte was one of the best ube flavors I've had in an ube latte before. Highly recommend! I had it iced. The pork belly adobo (only available on weekends I think) was a little disappointing. It's very possible it wasn't that great because it might've been sitting a few minutes before I picked it up and then it was 15-20 minutes uber back to my hotel to eat it. Food is always better when eaten fresh, so I don't fault them for it. The egg was perfectly cooked. I thought the pork belly would be cut in bigger chunks like their photos online, but they were cut very small. I want to try the breakfast sandwich next time I'm in town. The chocolate chip cookie with dark and white chocolate was big, soft, and yummy. I also got the banana tart which was SO good. It was not what I expected, but the flavors and textures were spot on. They have some benches on the side of their restaurant so if you do online order for pickup, I'd recommend trying to grab a spot there and eat the food fresh. I would recommend the baked goods and ube latte, not sure about the hot food until I can go back and try more menu items.

This is a fast casual spot so service was pretty fast. There is a decent amount of seating, most of which was surprisingly taken around 11am on a Thursday. For starters, they no longer have their rainbow cake! I was surprised to hear that considering how popular it's supposed to be. We got both banana lattes which were extremely sweet. It's basically dessert with a hint or caffeine. I'm a big fan of banana, so I actually liked this but I would've preferred half the sweetness. The Turkey Bacon & Egg Croissant was so good! A solid breakfast sandwich - the eggs were cooked perfectly, the turkey bacon was insanely crispy, and that sambal aioli was just what this needed. I highly recommend adding Avocado like I did for some freshness & creaminess since it's a heavy sandwich as is. The Cinnamon Roll was soft, moist, and not overly sweet. We visited around noon on a Sunday, and after reading the reviews here, I wasn't optimistic there would be many pastries left. Maybe I should play the lottery, because luckily there was no line and a pretty good selection of pastries left. The staff were super friendly and there were so many unique flavors of baked goods. We decided to split several and opted for the blueberry cloud cookie, chai cinnamon roll, banana pudding croissant, espresso cornflake cookie, and potato focaccia. The shop was more of a small take-out operation, so we took the pastries to a nearby park to eat. Everything was absolutely divine! The group favorite was the focaccia- the creamy potatoes and cheese brought a rich flavor that was perfectly balanced by the fluffy bread. The chai roll was perfectly soft and delicately spiced, completed with that soft cream cheese frosting and gooey center we all like to see. My personal favorite was the banana pudding croissant- the dough was so crispy that I'm pretty sure others could hear the bite, and there was a generous amount of filling with fresh bananas and visible vanilla beans in the whipped cream. The espresso cookie was super soft- while I couldn't taste the espresso very clearly, I absolutely *loved* the caramel-coated cornflakes topped with sea salt. Super unique and would definitely order again. Despite their decadent appearances, none of the pastries were too sweet. Already plotting a return visit and can't recommend this shop enough!
