Update: my husband and i revisited tonight with our vouchers. All i want to say is that the staff lacks major training in customer service. Coming from a background in restaurant business i would not want this staff in my family's restaurant. We had to wait at the bar since we didn't have reservations which is totally understandable, what's not acceptable is that it took 7 minutes (yes we timed it) for the girl behind the bar to acknowledge us eventhough it wasn't busy. Frustrating way to start the night. But we managed to enjoy our night and we definitely appreciate the vouchers, the restaurant looks so much better. Hello Yelp! Your friend Constance Whitehead here to talk to you about this fine establishment. I went here for an outing with my family including my husband, his brother, and his sister. We walked in and went upstairs to a room, in which was a big circular table with cooks in the middle, who make the food right in from of you! All you do is walk up, pick the food that you want, and then give it to the cooks to make it! I grabbed some rustic clams, a bit of rice noodles, and a piece of beef. I grabbed some salt, garlic powder, and a buffalo sauce. I gave the chef my plate, and he began to cook it. He flirted with me a bit, and I chuckled. My husband was jealous, and tried to kiss me in front of him. Not today Hubb! We got our cooked food, the cook blew me a kiss . We all walked back to our table and ate the food, it was mediocre. I had a lot of mustard with my clams, which made it taste better. My husband's brother was upset by the lighting, and found it too much for his eyes. He has very sensitive eyes, and it bothered him just so slightly. After a few alcohol drinks, the food was a whole lot better. The husband took home some tofu squares and beef tenderloin, and we danced to Bruno Mars as we finished our leftovers at home. The food gets a 4, the drinks and the cook get a 5. read more

I went to the "Fire & Ice" restaurant for the first time and let me tell you, i love yhe place. As soon as you go upstairs you have hostess waiting to seat you, the grill surrounded by people waiting for their food. Nice waiters and a market bar with delicious food waiting for you to choose whatever you want as much as you want. There's food, music, good people and good vibes. I actually think this is a super fun concept, although not the most refined - all you can eat mongolian grill buffett, for only $11.99 at lunch? There is a great variety of meats, seafood, and vegetables, although I'd admit it's hard to decide what to create, especially as you have to pick all the base + protein + sauces yourself - do you want Italian? Asian? Plain grilled meats? Then you stand around the giant grill while a man cooks your food next to other people's food - there's not really a show or anything, but it's quick enough. First time here and we were definitely pleased. It's not your average spot. I wouldn't recommend it if you are in a rush to eat or if you have lots of trouble deciding what time eat. Though there are plenty of items and tastes to choose from. We went during Brunch and truly was pleased with the options. They made pancakes, omelets and crepes fresh on the grill with any toppings or stuffings that you like. Truly with creativity you can definitely make a great dish. There is rice, noodles, pasta or salad you can use to create a base for your meal. There is a great selection of meat, toppings and sauces to add. Once done you stand around the grill awaiting it to be cooked. Everything is made to order right in front of you. Once done your creation is plated and bon appetit. Although I think the food doesn't deserve more than 3 starts, I really enjoyed the experience and the fact that they have college night for students on Mondays. If you are student, on Mondays you can use all you can eat buffet for only 12.83. So highly recommended! You should pick your desired ingredients and combine them with your choice of sauce or spices and then take it to the grill station. The meats are were not very diverse. They didn't have shrimp or steak or ribs. A few suggestions: - If you don't know what to mix to get a good food just check a few cooking recipes before going here or you will end up having nothing to eat - Put your rice or noodles in different container than your meat. So this is the second time in a month I've dropped by for lunch for the buffet. Honestly I'm tired of the same old same old. So I figured go to fire and ice it's definitely different right.. the foods pretty good especially good for a change though. However, the service both times has been non existent literally. Never once was I asked if I needed anything or how the food was. I each time I got a salad and went up twice. Neither time did they take the plate until I was about to leave. Maybe the waitresses aren't properly trained or maybe they're too young. I can't figure it out. I'm actually doing this review while I'm sitting at my table because I'm just baffled... Figures as soon as I'm finished writing the sentence she comes up and asks me if I needed anything. I said yes another coke please. Fire + Ice is a nice place to hang out at. (Pre-Covid) I went here a bunch of times. Usually with larger groups, hosted birthday parties here, nice decor really bad for parking but overall you can hang out and have a good time. The noise level is usually loud but I went during Covid and it was super quiet, felt weird. I used to like the all you can eat thing but I realized that if you don't know how to cook you struggle here. People don't know what seasonings to add or how to create a good sauce of which sauce goes best with their dish. I love it cuz I like to play with the different flavors but anyways. Food is good, downside is that everything gets cooked together so it all taste pretty much the same. Drinks here are pretty good, the chefs are the best, it's hibachi so they usually put on a show (well they used to) now they just cook the food and hand it to you. Before there was one guy that always made you laugh but since he left it's much different. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavors and the unique concept of the restaurant. Food: - It is basically an AYCE, where you choose the raw ingredients + sauce and bring it to the large grill to be cooked. Because you are choosing your own ingredients, it is pretty easy to adjust it to your dietary needs and preferred flavors. The grill is teppanyaki-esque, in that watching the cooking is an entertainment in itself. - I was satisfied by the freshness of the proteins - For the price, I think it is an amazing deal. For the students in the area, Monday night is college night! ($16.99 with college ID v. ~$20 for lunch, ~$25 for dinner) Atmosphere: - I would say it is pretty lively, given the grilling "show" that is going on. I didn't mind watching the food being cooked while I waited my turn. Service: - Staff was very friendly. - Note, I did visit at an off peak time and our party was one of very few patrons. I did notice in the other reviews that the wait can get long during peak times. So for the best experience, this is definitely a restaurant you should aim to visit during off peak hours. Its not a place to go if your looking to sit and get to know somebody, it's every man for himself like most buffets but you are away from the table longer since they cook your food fresh on the spot. My family and I went here for Fathers Day. Haven't been since they were located in Cambridge. Everyone had a great time and good was good. Ideal for people who cook lol you're in charge of your sauces and the food you combine to make your meal. If you don't know what goes with what, you're pretty much out of luck, there's no guidance such as info on the menu or signs near the food. So if your food is tasteless, or too salty, it's entirely on you (I'm sure some of these negative reviews are related to that). BUT I'm sure if you ask the staff for suggestions, they'll give you some, because the staff were AMAZING. Nowadays it's hard to find good costumer service, it's hard to ask questions because you feel like your bothering someone, so you just ask a few and deal with the confusion. We asked 1000 questions and were responded with kindness and patience. If this review was based on the staff alone I would give this review a 5. Especially our experience with our waiter, Anderson. It is an experience. Pros: we were with a large group and there was something for everyone. You could pick out what you wanted and watch them cook it. Unlike Hibachi there was no show. The food tasted ok. Cons: I worried a bit about how food was handled. So many people handling the tongs and picking out food. Restaurant is large and super loud. We were early for our reservation. It wasn't conducive to a group discussion. It forced more like 2-3 people talking. While they did seat us, they pressured us to start even thought we were missing folks. This place is an experience. It's like a stir-fry buffet. You get the raw ingredients you want and then take it to this giant circular grill where the cooks do hibachi style grilling then pour the sauce onto your food then plate it. You can go back for more ingredients. So. It's a little overwhelming because for some reason there are like three birthday parties and it's a place for field trips for students in the area so there are people everywhere. Then, maybe it's just because I'm indecisive but there are different types of noodles, rice, pasta as bases, different meats, different sauces, different vegetables and the whole time I am worried that whatever combination I pick is going to not be good. Probably great if you know what you like. They ask if you have any allergies and I should have said yes, because when they grill, they lay out all of the people's food next to each other and I ended up with random beans in my stir fry that I didn't pick out as my raw ingredients. Also randomly have hot dogs and burgers you can have them cook up plus I guess maybe Italian with spaghetti options? Overall it seemed like a pretty low class mish mosh of low quality ingredients. The place was near empty when I went. I can't really recommend this but I guess if you're craving stir fry it's an option. This was our second time going because the first time we enjoyed it. However, after sitting down and ordering drinks, my daughter who is blind and autistic decided she wasn't really hungry and was going to just have one small plate of salad from the bar. I asked the server if there was a price break for just a salad bar or something along the line. Maybe even charge a kids meal instead? She said no they don't have price options but she would check with her manager. She came back and said the manager was rather rude to her when she asked and he said no because people come here for the "experience" and he would have to void out what the waitress had already entered in the computer which he didn't want to do. She was very apologetic. It wasn't her fault. I said well tell him she is blind and can't experience it like he stated. I was pissed. Updating My review from nine months ago it went from a three Star rating now to one star. I am so disappointed on how lacking the customer service is now at Fire and Ice considering it's one of the most well-known restaurants in Boston. I have been a loyal customer here for over 10 years & in the last few years the service here has really gone down hill-- it doesn't help that the restaurant has clothes other locations in Cambridge & Providence RI. The last time I was here with my family it was for breakfast brunch on Sunday and our son who is special-needs was of course doing what most toddlers do-- climb around the place. The staff put up with this fairly well minus the shooting glares we got from them here and there. Today my husband and I went for his free birthday lunch, and considering lunchtime is not busy, we hoped to have decent service this time around. We did NOT. The host sat us down but that was IT. No server came over to us & introduced themselves, but the table next to us that had three people was serviced. We were only given water and no one mentioned any specials they had at F&I today. After now *2 bad experiences* it is clear that we will NOT be giving fire and ice our business anymore--2 bad experiences back to back is enough for us. I was highly disappointed A friend and I decided to travel into the city for dinner last night. We have not been here in years, so we decided to try it again. We were not pleased at all! First we ordered waters, never got them. Then we order 2 meals each to try different things and they were both awful. No flavor at all! We had 3 bites. We also ordered a burger, that we never got. As we left we began to have sharp pains in our stomach and today we are both sick throwing up. Food poisoning? I do not recommend coming here. read more

I really enjoyed my time at fire and ice. It kind of feels like a diner, mixed with Mongolian barbecue. The food was good quality with a decent amount of options of meat, seafood, vegetables, and sauces. I would say that everything was good quality, but not outstanding. The customer service was beyond my expectations when I arrived I had never been to this restaurant, and the bartender told me what was going on and was quite kind and directing me upstairs. The host upstairs informed me that they were closing in about an hour, but I can still order and showed me around. It was a laid-back ambience, Back Bay is filled with white napkin fancy restaurants, and it was refreshing to see that fire and ice is still going strong and quite reasonably priced. After a handful of visits throughout the years to Fire plus Ice, I'm still in the indifferent category on how I feel about it. The vibe in the place is OUTSTANDING, it constantly feels like a party you are happy to be invited to and don't really want to leave. But the food can leave you a bit underwhelmed, even with so many choices at your fingertrips. I was there on a busy Saturday night with a group of 12 for a birthday party, we had reservations and were seated virutally immediately. I wish though that we were at more of a table on our own vs. the ones with benches and neighbors. It was hard to mix and mingle while eating and not being able to hear someone seated just a few spots down from you. As I mentioned before, the vibe is a bit over the top and will be loud throughout the night. My biggest gripe is, they give you a nice sized bowl for your FIRST visit up to the hibachi grill, so what's up with giving out bowls only half the size of the original for a repeat? It's almost a bait and switch. I must have looked for the larger bowls for good five minutes before I had that duh moment that I won't be able to fill something as big again. I attempted to ask a worker out on the floor bringing new dishes and got a response "no a speaka English". There isn't much that fits in the smaller bowls so over about two hours, I still felt slightly hungry even after FOUR trips to the grill. I don't understand how others were doing it, every time my food cooked it looked like I had half of what everyone else did. I was trying to be careful so none of the ingredients would spill out but it also left me slightly unfullfilled. Each batch can take almost 15 minutes to receive anyway, so there is a lot of time spent oogling over your food while waiting for it to cook. As I've seen in other reviews, its not rocket science that some ingredients cook faster than others. Throwing everything on at the same time isn't always the wisest choice. I had burnt shirmp once that were almost inedible. I saw one of the cooks telling a customer that the fruit they added wouldn't survive on the grill.....but what about other odd combos that will suffer the same fate? The cooks were all AWESOME and even performed shows while cooking the wares but it was so busy that items were being burnt on the regular. Another minor gripe was the fact that we were't told ice cream was an extra $5. Caveat emptor, after seeing the toppings bar next to the food I figured there was a good chance it was included. Uuuhhmm nope. The offerings were somewhat bland on my last visit as opposed to the time I went 5+ years ago and had alligator. Where did all the exotic meats go? I hate mussels, why no clams offered? The burger looked really big and delicious but I shyed away from it because I knew that was all I would be able to have. I think the item that grilled up best overall was the tofu I added to most of my tastings. The veggie bar was somewhat limited and few appealed to me, how about offering up snap peas or cauliflower. I'm sure they all cost less than the proteien offerings and the Boston based clientele would be happy seeing so many things that are good for you. I didn't feel sick afterwards and I'm happy it was all cooked well. We don't ever think of rushing back but it sure is fun as hell to go with a big group. Great for tourists but I can see why locals will leave slightly disappointed. read more

Basically you grab as many bowls as you want and fill them up with as much pasta, noodles, rice, starches, vegetables, meat and seafood as you want. Then you take your bowl over to the grill and watch the chefs cook your meal in front of you. It truly is a wonderful experience and at a very reasonable price of $20.99 for dinner. Several menu items did stand out. On the seafood front, the calamari and salmon were flavorful and delicious. On the meat side, the pork rib and turkey burger were satisfying.
