Absolutely my favourite place to eat in Boston. I've been here at least four times, and it hasn't let me down yet. Service is great, drinks are reasonably priced and food is great. I totally love the concept of taking whatever you want and cook it all at the same time. Totally worth the money. read more

So the idea of this place is great. You pretty much gather whatever you want into a bowl and then you watch people cook it right in front of you. The problem is that not everyone on this earth is a chef so how am I suppose to know how to spice my fish or which sauce goes best with my chicken. Either way after you gather all the meats, veggies, spices, and sauces you take it to watch them cook it for you but the problem is that they will always over-cook it. They also have only one style of cooking which is grill and honestly pasta on the grill- not so great. They need to work on the concept a little bit but very interesting idea. read more

Fire + Ice - The grill! - American Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

This is such a fun place! Is it 100% organic chicken and expensive angus beef? No. Is it tasty? Yes! You choose your proteins, carbs, veggies, and sauce, and they cook it hibachi-style in front of you. You can go up as many times as you want (1 bowl at a time). There's also a cold salad bar. Staff is really helpful, especially when they hear it's your first time there, then they explain everything to you. Will definitely come back again! read more

Great atmosphere and great food! Everyone was so nice!! We will back...thanks again for the hospitality!

Fire + Ice is truly a unique restaurant, besides hibachi I've never seen another restaurant cook food on a grill in front of you. The combo of the buffet station along with the sizzling hot grill is a great mix. I think the quality of the food is quite good, the veggies, noodles, and rice you can't go wrong with. The only place that would worry me would be the meat, and the substitute meat options, but from what I've tried, these are all great too. The different marinated chicken selection they have available is always amazing, and their shrimp always comes out perfectly cooked. I've never had the burger before, but I've heard from many friends that it's one of the best things here. In regards to the sauce selection they have available, I think these are all good too, my only suggestion for you would be to have 2 cups of your chosen sauce, and spices, because just one is never enough. Enjoy! read more

OK 2 stars because the foodand our server were good. But service here sucks. I came here with 3 of my girl friends and we were waiting to get sat and let me tell you, I've never seen something so unprofessional. While we were waiting to get sat, the gentleman host greeted us and asked one of the girl hostess (Anastashia) to seat us and she rudely stuck the middle finger at him right in front of us. I looked at my friends and we were all kinda shocked like she didn't want to seat us. We sat at our tables debating if we should stay because she already made us feel unwelcome, but our server Gee made it better. Super kind and friendly server! I like the concept of how everything works. You pretty much grab whatever you want and take it to a huge grill where they have someone prepare it, but I don't think it's something we would want to come back for. read more

Never will go back. Worse experience ever. So much for treating grandsons to a fun dinner. The owners should be ashamed of putting this up as a fun experience. No one seemed to know anything. So much for having reservations too !!! read more

I'm surprised by all of the average reviews - My boyfriend and I had a fun time at Fire and Ice! Picture a buffet meets hibachi in a trendy setting (loved the upbeat music that was playing, and then fun lighting on the walls that changed colors). Being able to choose the exact ingredients you want and then watch it get cooked right in front of you is a fun and unique dining experience! Being from New York, I thought the $21.99 set price for all you can eat was a great value. There's a great selection of fresh meat, fish, vegetables, starches, seasonings, and sauces, and plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians. You pay additional for drinks, but they have a large selection to choose from. I really appreciated how the staff accommodated food allergies: Being both lactose and gluten intolerant, they not only told me exactly what I could and couldn't eat, but they cook your food on a separate allergy friendly grill to avoid cross contamination. The only downfall is that you need to pay an extra $6 to have access to the ice cream bar. Otherwise, I definitely recommend coming here for a fun experience! read more

I personally would like to say this place used to be great, even just a few months ago I went and had a great experience. Although this time I went back after bragging to my friends that they would love it and I ended up being HIGHLY embarrassed. First of all my youngest friend is 18 years old and our server, I believe his name is Casey, made her feel really uncomfortable. Regardless of his age the comments he made about her appearance were inappropriate to say the lease. All of our food, after waiting for 45 minutes, was either hard and crunchy or just tasteless. Again the service was nowhere near decent. I wanted to put in a formal complaint to the company about the harassment but the host told me "our manger is busy sorry" I will never return to this place nor will I ever speak highly of it ever again. If I could give 0 stars I would! read more

This place is a fun restaurant, with good food. It's one of those places you go to more for the experience than for great quality food. It's a buffet meets hibachi style restaurant. You get a bowl and go to all the various stations to fill it with whatever your in the mood for. They have pastas, veggies, various meats and poultry and seafood. Once you pick your food and sauce, you bring it to a huge "hibachi style" cooking table and watch the guys cook your food. Sit, eat and repeat. The quality of the food is not bad by any means, but it's not what I would call great food. The service is friendly, but it took a while to get them to come back for refills and the check. I would say yes to going back, but definitely not gunna be sad if I don't. read more

Just left this place to celebrate my cousins 18th birthday. We were paying our bill and we saw a mouse run under one of black cabinets. That's extremely unsanitary and one of the waiters joked around saying " ratatouille". The manager wouldn't give us a lower amount for the bill and offered a voucher. We DO NOT want to come back to fire + ice after witnessing something like that. Especially with issues currently going around the world with health and illness. read more

We went to eat here before the Blue Man Group Show and it was a nice experience. We were a really big group so the waitress was very patient with us and explained everything throughly for us. You go and pick your food and they cook it for u in front of your eyes. They have a nice variety of things. The only issue I had was that my sweet potatoes were not cooked all the way. But besides that everything else was great. read more

Fire + Ice used to be one of my favorite places to go out with a group of friends and just crush all sorts of food over the last decade or so. Unfortunately, over the last year it has really seemed to go down hill. For the longest time the same cooks had always been manning the grill but when we went a couple weeks ago it was all new people and everyone seems really miserable. Some of my chicken in my first plate was definitely not fully cooked which was a huge turn off. Service is hit or miss and my girlfriend ordered a drink that was made completely wrong at first and took a while to flag down our waiter. I love the fact you can choose all sorts of ingredients and craft your own dishes but with some lack luster service, cooks that seem miserable and my first dish not hitting the grill long enough I've really lost a lot of my love for this place. Also, if you are a germaphobe or really don't like food contamination DO NOT go to Fire + Ice, you'll have a nervous breakdown trying to get ingredients from busy buffet lines! read more

Awesome food with great service and unique decor! Will def be back!

I went here for a relative's birthday and got food poisoning. Raw ingredients just sitting around in bowls? What could go wrong? I had suggested some decent old-school nice/special-occasion restaurants, (Kitty's, Angelica's, Century House, Phoenicia, etc.) ...."too boring," (this from the same crowd that won't even try the Cambodian restaurants in their own town) they also insisted "it had to be a buffet." They come back to the table with a heaping plate showing off a kitchen-sink approach to using pre-made sauces and seasoned-salt spice blends. Proudly declaring "there's a kick to it." Now they feel "creative." Fire+Ice is Loud, tacky pseudo-adventurism for those too squeamish to try an ethnic restaurant, who don't cook, but want to think they "created" something. Really, what is the appeal of a trendified buffet, anyway? The theme park experience that stands in for presentation? It seems wanting heaping plates of quantity-over-quality (scarcity-mindset/"getting your moneys worth) and wanting quality food or even a quality dining experience, (not even necessarily a "fine dining" experience) is a self contradiction. read more

I genuinely expected this review to be a 2* review but coming on an off night, I had a much better time than expected. I really just expected this to be, just, the drunkest place I could imagine, based on reputation. But to my surprise, it was a very positive experience, particularly the excellent service. The chefs put on a great show and clearly really enjoyed themselves which hyped up the crowd. Maybe most surprisingly, the food turned out well above average. Going with more traditional Asian stir fry options proved to be the best strategy IMO, my girlfriend went for very American staples and unsurprisingly had a more average experience. I thought this was going to be an experience id make stuck up jokes about but now I actually really look forward to going back. read more

Overall, the food is good. It is a pretty unique Mongolian style type of bbq. With all-you-can eat for steak, shrimp, pork, and all these other types of meats. And you can complement these foods with some veggies, sauces, noodles, rice etc. The food is cooked fine, I took the Hoison ginger sauce as my sauce to go with my food and it ended up tasting pretty solid. I also got a Cheeseburger and thought that was the best part of the meal since it was so freshly grilled in front of me. If you are looking for big portions with pretty decent food and around a KBBQ price (20-30) this place is worth it. Otherwise, the quality and the sluggish service make this place just and OK for me. read more

I have been to this restaurant several times, and each time it has been a pleasant dining experience. The waitstaff in the staff are all open and friendly. Every time I go with a friend we sit, talk and have a great time. The staff always makes us feel welcome. Plus the food is prepared well. There is so much to choose from and a variety of sauces to use. I highly recommend this place for anyone on a first date or a place to bring children. read more

I don't know about the service here... when it comes to food, you know exactly what you are getting. Nothing fancy or high quality but you know you can eat as much as you want which makes up for the less quality...but what makes me really hesitant about this place is their level of service... maybe I just went on a bad day but I waited like 10 min just to get my check. When I asked the guy at the front booth he literally told me to "talk to my waiter".... Okay but you are standing here doing absolutely nothing and you can't get me a check so I can PAY you??? Improve your customer service and maybe more ppl will come here! read more

I had a love/ hate relationship with buffets until I encountered Fire+ice! I love to choose from a variety of options but the thing I hated was the likelihood of stale or cold food but, with this place you finally get the best of both worlds! Buffet meets hibachi in a sense so your food is hot and another perk is that you can season your food prior to handing it to the cook or add a sauce after. They have many types of proteins, (beef, pork, chicken, sausage, turkey burger, shrimp, salmon, tilapia, etc) grains/pastas, veggies, seasonings and sauces. Yes, there can be a wait to get your food cooked but it's actually entertaining watching the chefs work their magic on the stove and they have fun with it as well. Once your food is on the grill its a relatively quick process; I'd say about 9-15 mins depending on what you get. My only concern was the fact that the meats were raw and then it would make contact with the other foods I had in my bowl so I thought it was a little unsanitary but I guess once everything is cooked it's fine. That was the only thing that bothered me but it was a great experience and extremely tasty for a buffet plus only $20 per person!!! read more

I only come here for trivia on Wednesday nights since it's the closest place to work that has an early start time so coworkers who live further away can participate. The only people who eat at Fire & Ice seem to be suburbanites, tourists, or families with young kids. I'd never willingly come to eat the food since I'm against gimmicky chain restaurants. That said, the service in the bar is dreadful. Every single time I've been to trivia, our bill has been messed up. Half-priced apps are supposed to happen between 4 - 6, and they're always full price on the bill. Without fail, a server will accidentally try give another table's food to my table and after saying it's not my food, it somehow ends up on our bill anyway. Last time, the bill was over by $80 with food and beer we didn't order. On occasion, the beer I've ordered has been out and instead of coming back to tell me, a different beer is delivered instead. They seem to be incapable of remembering who ordered what during trivia nights, since there's been times where they claim to not be able to find the table I'm at, even though the downstairs bar is not large. Having to get to check fixed every single time I'm there because of a lazy waitstaff is frustrating. Time to find a different stump trivia venue. read more

The food was good, there was a good selection of items to mix in a bowl. You definitely wont leave here hungry. Love how you pick what you want to eat and then bring it to the grill and they cook it right there. My son really enjoyed watching the food being cooked, they even gave him some sunglasses which was pretty neat. Only real complaint was I got a sangria drink which was AWFUL to be nice. I only took a sip of it and mentioned it to the waiter we had who just acted like he really didn't care and then charged us for it. I didn't even complain about that because we couldn't find him and he was MIA most of the time we were there anyways. All in all I will be back but will not order a drink from here like that again. read more

This is a great concept for a restaurant. Clean and healthy. I really enjoyed lunch there.

I understand that with COVID everything is stressful and tight but the experience I had today was horrible. It was my first time being here and the server was so nice but the food was not good. 3 of the meals were raw and not done to its full extent. A dish was missing. It was a birthday dinner and we didn't receive the birthday dessert or anything but every other party that Had a birthday there received it. The whole experience was just horrible, hopefully everyone else had a good time. read more

I had high expectations coming into the restaurant because someone really hyped it up like it was the best thing ever. And sadly, I left disappointed. If I had not come in with expectation I feel like I would have been impressed. The food is good, but not the best ever, and it's really fun to watch them make it in front of you. So overall I enjoyed the experience, but came in with too high of expectations to leave impressed. read more

I have been here twice. Once for cocktails only.. if that's what you're looking for and you don't have high expectations, go for it. The bar staff is friendly and the bar is separate for the most part on the first floor. The one issue in the Bar area is that hibachi customers from upstairs bring their plates down the stairs and walk through the bar crowd to their tables in the back which I think is awkward but whatever.. If you want to eat - please don't go here. The Hibachi room aka Fire Marshall Nightmare upstairs is thick with grill smoke, loud music, and crowds of people squeezed into mismatched tables in every dark crevice of the space. The model for safe food service is terrifying. I'd bet my next paycheck a random visit by the health inspector would find a laundry list of issues. Cross contamination and opportunity for tainted ingredients is rampant for several reasons, one being the masses that have access to everything, including raw meats. One person in my party noticed her chicken not fully cooked and stuck to the salad bar. The service is on par with the rest of the experience. The more I reflect on this the less I am surprised that I ended up with food poisoning, and would not be surprised if it was a very common occurrence. Barf. Literally. read more

I love this place. One of the reasons I like to go here is because it has separate cooking spot for vegetarians. You never experience the same taste here because of this being a Mongolian style restaurant. read more

This place is essentially a DIY, all-you-can-eat stir-fry extravaganza. You fill up your bowl with whatever you like (meat, veggies, sauce) and take it up to the grill for them to cook it for you. There's a decent selection of food items and there were staff continuously refilling the various bars so there was never any shortage of food. The only thing I'd worry about is cross-contamination if you have food allergies or are a vegetarian or vegan; as the grill cooks go down the line and attend to each person's meal, they do not wipe down their spatulas in-between. Even though I'm not vegetarian, I brought up a bowl of veggies at one point and had the same utensils used to cook the meat dishes used on my meal. Great value on Mondays if you're a student-- show your student ID and dinner is $10.99 instead of the usual $19.99. We came with a large group of people and they had trouble splitting the bill correctly (so keep that in mind). Also, I would skip the alcoholic bowls. $19 for what was essentially soda? No thanks. read more

Look, it's a DIVE of a restaurant in a fancy location. It's a FUN dive and a unique concept, but still a dive. So if you are going expecting a "swanky night in Boston," you're bringing the wrong attitude. If you're going because you're hungry, unfancy, like laughing, and can't quite decide what you want to eat, well, you got it right. Don't be fooled by the fun, upbeat, Evil-Disney decor. This is not a ride, it's a trip. The coloring and look will at first imply that people care about this place, because who would go to so much trouble if they didn't care about details right? Well, that's an illusion; don't believe that. It is a dive; it's looked the same since, like, 1994 or whatever. So if you want to just eat up in a dive, you'll not read into the decor and just accept that the truth is: this place is a greasy spoon that serves a lot of food for the money. This place is perfect for: * Sports teams and jocks looking to eat big and dress sloppy. * Tweens or teens who want to do something in a city that will suck up a few hours. * Lunchtime family fun for parents and kids older than, say, 7 or 8. * A circle of friends with big appetites and silly attitudes. * Bodybuilders and gym lifters who want gratuitous excesses of protein and control of what they eat. * College kids looking to eat cheap and come out full. * A hearty brunch if you want to eat breakfast food BIG This place is NOT, NOT, NOT intended for: * A romantic date. * Heck, not even a CASUAL date. * In fact, anyone trying to "connect" as a couple, just don't bother. * Persnickety eaters * People wanting a "fine meal." * Any large group that needs any sort of consistent presence of waitstaff. * Easily confused or intimidated people. * Anyone looking to chill out. The staff is usually young and sort of, well, not really super attentive. They all seem like they are just winging it, and often entirely miss special requests. But, you know: that's just like how ANY dive is. So, if you can handle dining in a dive, you won't be bothered. It's not the most tidy place in the world. But if you go with it being a dive in mind, it shouldn't be a problem. Dives are often not totally spotless clean. It's passable, and the plates and silverware seem clean enough. The kitchen always seems steaming with washing activity, so the important parts are clean. The bathrooms are a little gross; but that is what you'd expect of a dive bathroom, right? So no worries. The cooks in the big grill are usually charismatic dudes, and they do their best. But think of them as short-order cooks, NOT as chefs If you think you are not getting good service from the cooks, well, just STFU and accept that YOU are the one who came into a dive, so should not expect any more charm than a dive would offer. However, they are friendly dudes, typically have good senses of humor, and if you toss a tip in their jar, trust me, they will get your stuff VERY right. That is actually a pro tip to this place: plan on doing most of your tipping at the grill, and do so VERY conspicuously so that the cooks see you do it. That will tune them in to take good care of you. You'd be surprised how any people just don't bother tipping these VERY hard-working guys. Plan to tip as much (or more) up at the grill as you would at your table, and you will get a better meal. Still a dive meal, but at least you'll get a little more TLC. The chaos of the room sometimes overwhelms folks. Which is understandable - it can get pretty awkward and weird. I STRONGLY suggest trying to be social, in spite of the typical Boston Back Bay anti-social vibe. You're all in the same boat; make the most of it. I strongly recommend the weekend brunches. The all-you-can-eat pancakes and omelettes take brunch to a next level of comfort-food, and meanwhile they will throw almost anything else on that grill. Muffins, pastry, bagels, whatever. Tons of bacon and french toast and all the basics of a solid brunch, plus yogurts and fruits make it actually a great choice for a super-laid-back comfort food brunch. I mean, who doesn't love dive-restaurant breakfast food right? I am a coach of lifters, bodybuilders, and strength athletes, and we have often frequented this place for it's incredible value, it's willingness to let you literally pig out, it's flexibility, and it's "come however you are and be whatever you want" vibe. To say it is a low-judgement atmosphere is understating it; it is a total "who cares" level of relaxed. In fact, try to overlook the tatters nd chips; booth fabric will have torn edges, chairs will sometimes be worn down, and there are nicks and bumps all over the walls. Keep that "I am in a dive restaurant" attitude and you won't mind at all. Fire+Ice is a calamity in both the ironically funny and frustratingly disappointing ways. Bring a sense of humor and a low-maintenance attitude, and you will be fine. Expect anything more, and well . . . you were warned. read more

I don't understand the appeal of this place. It's jammed packed to the gills and the food is always overcooked. The food seems fresh but I'm not a fan of touching tongs covered in salmonella then going to touch tongs for salad. It seems unsanitary and filthy to me. the grill area is just gross. The floor where they cook is covered with food and the grill pit where they put used bowls is filthy. They have a dessert bar but you need to pay 6 bucks for a bowl of ice cream. Why have the dessert bar up then!! I accidentally ordered my drinks with the wrong waitress and instead of saying something she just smiled and walk away. Gee thanks! They also want you to tip 20 percent. For a buffet, that's insane. read more

Something different to do. Creativity for your dish is in your hand. Other than that, the quality of food and service is meh. We told them we would be doing the stir fry station instead of ordering dishes from the menu when we were seated and given the menus. Yet were told to wait for a waitress who would be with us shortly. Nope. It was not shortly. We sat there staring at each other for more than 10 minutes, also baffling why we would need to wait for the waitress when this is a self serving sort of meal where everyone is up and about to get their ingredients. If the waitress were to only bring drinks, she can watch us and take drink orders once we are back at our designated table from having done picking our food and had it cooked. We waited and waited. Only to ask for water with our meal when she got the chance to show up so that we can start our own created meal. Also dropped our credit card somewhere on the floor that got both us and her have to look around in the dim lit dining area of the restaurant. read more

Not sure why this place has such a low rating. It's awesome! Great value (~$12 for all you can eat lunch) and a huge variety of food makes this place very worthwhile on an empty stomach. Pick any combination of protein, carbs, and vegetables and put it in one of the metal bowls. Bring that and a small cup of sauce to the grill where the cooks will mix everything up. You can also make burgers, heroes, and hot dogs! Super fun and I enjoy having almost complete autonomy over what goes in my custom meal. Tasty sauces and cool concept. Would come here again. read more

I remember going here (to another location) almost 10 years and loving it. Maybe it was because I was younger and idealistic, but this just wasn't as good as I remember it. We went for the Sunday brunch, which meant that half of the grill was for pancakes, crepes, and omelettes while the other half was for their "traditional" lunch. The portions are great, you can eat your little heart out. Unfortunately, I think because it was brunch, they didn't have a lot of the meats that they normally do. They also didn't have the same kind of variety of sauces that I remember - they were all pretty similar and a little boring. I couldn't find anything to make my meal spicy! Their cooks didn't seem to really pay attention to how long they had someone's food on the grill, so I ended up with super dried out chicken and mostly crispy vegetables. Much better than undercooked chicken, I know, but... eh. The little salad bar was awesome, I liked being able to get some greens in. Their fresh fruit was great - intended for the crepes/pancakes, but I enjoyed them on their own. Good place if you want to eat a lot and are good with putting together your own combinations. read more

My husband loved it! My sister and her family did too. It was a bit on the pricey side in my opinion but it's all you can eat. I came here for my birthday because I thought I would enjoy it, but I wish I had chosen somewhere else. It wasn't very busy when I went, yet it took a very long time for my food to be prepared. Taste-wise, I would compare the food to my school's dining hall; in fact, I'd argue I've had better meals at the dining hall. I picked things I know I like, but they simply didn't taste good.
