The main reason I would not recommend this establishment is they up charge for use of CC. I had a debit card and asked the server to run it as such or ask management how to do that since there should be no fees associated with a debit card. This did not happen and no discussion from management regarding my concern for the up charge. There should be a sign on the door alerting customers to this practice so I could make a decision before dining there and so I am informed before the bill comes. I have eaten here many times and this must be a relatively new practice. The prices on the menu have also gone up considerably. Value price ratio is not equal. Sadly I will not be back. Many other options in the area. I would advise the management to reconsider this added charge. read more

I've been to fire ant several times, with and without friends and family. Good selection of menu items. I will say, for the most part, they can all be very good. But on occasion can miss the mark too. My concern on my latest visit tho was the $7.75 for a pint of beer! You have got to be kidding! This would make their beer the highest cost wise in the area. Unfortunately theirs are not the best in the area! I know that they opened a pizza place next door that just recently failed. So it seems that they intend to overcharge the brewery customers to recoup losses from the failed endeavor. What they have is location but it literally would take 5 minutes or less to get to the nearest competitor. Which, by the way, is also a brewery with better tasting beer! read more

Really great spot to stop in and grab a nice cold craft beer after going by the farmer's market! Sorry to say, we've been passing this place by for about 5 years. Always wanted to stop but didn't until today. The only thing I wanted was a nice cold beer... and it did not disappoint. I had the Blonde and it was perfect for the season... HOT! The best part is the staff. They were super attentive and took good care of us even though all I initially ordered was the beer. On my second pour I bought wings as well just because and they didn't disappoint either. I really like this spot and plan to visit regularly!! Yummy yum yum!! Finally tried Fire Ant Brewing today and we were NOT disappointed with that wonderful flavor! I had that sweet tea fried chicken sandwich with some salt and vinegar potatoes on the side! I just couldn't eat it all so I have leftovers for tonight. Now I'm thinking about adding some vinegar to my potatoes at home too! The hubby had the BBQ bacon cheeseburger and he basically ate it before I could capture any photos if that tells you how much he loved it! Recently went for the first time with a friend after we went to the German festival, luckily it was only a few minute walk away. They have indoor and outdoor seating, inside is a nice set up, service was good and the beer selection was nice as well. read more

Amazing experience! I believe our server said her name was Michelle, she was the best server I've ever had, she was so delightful and made amazing suggestions. It looks great inside, the patio also looks great. Our food surpassed our expectations, we got the cabbage and miso and added the sweet tea chicken because our server recommended it. Fire Ant was a decent surprise on a recent trip out to Houston. We had stopped by on our way to our hotel after another brewery pit stop. Most of these beers are German style beers so beware if you're looking for a hazy IPA. Let's put it this way, the server had no idea what beer to recommend when we mentioned were fans of hazy NEIPAs...she suggested a red ale (?!?!). I tried the hefe and kolsch. It was hard to tell which I preferred since the kolsch had the flavor of the hefe and the hefe had no flavor. We didn't have food so can't rate that. Ran in to Tomball today with the intent to try a bbq place I had heard about and found it closed. Opted to go to Fire Ant instead and I'm glad I did. First, they actually served product from Tejas BBQ and the whole place was craft and yummy. Started the meal with a craft beer suggested by the server for my partner in crime and she was dead on with her description and recommendations. She listened to the likes and paired a beer perfectly. She also brought a sample of a similar brew to the table and that always get points. We decided lunch would be a series of appetizers and the decision was solid. The size and quantities exceeded our expectations. And the quality? Well blown away. First we got a bag of house made chicharrones that were warm and perfectly spiced. Next up was the link tray, covered with two amazing links from the Tejas collection, a brot and what was billed as a hotdog. Both were sliced and had a nice fresh flavor. The tray also included toasted slices of pretzel roll and a variety of pickled vegetables which offered a bright contrast to the unctuous meat. There was also a good stone mustard and a light aioli. Last we experienced the huge heaping interpretation of nachos with crisp chips, pickled onions, glorious cheese and succulent carnitas. Who could eat a sandwich after appetizers like these? My only complaint or comment is the lemonade appeared to be a mix. With everything else at such a high standard fresh squeezed or a better quality would be expected. I always try to visit local breweries when traveling. Fire Ant was listed on Yelp, so I decided to give them a try. The atmosphere is a bit Spartan as are other brewery restaurants that I been to. That's fine, it was clean and comfortable. I chose to sit at the bar for dinner where I was immediately greeted by Kristen, one of the two bartenders working. Seeing that they had a list of 20 or so beers, I decided on a flight of 4. The flight cost $8 which seemed a bit high to me - it seems they'd want to promote flights as a way of introducing their varied beers to their customers. In any case, Kristen and I discussed my tastes and she made recommendations. I don't recall the four I chose, but I did finally select a lager. They were all delicious; it's hard to beat fresh beer. Unfortunately they were out of a few I would have tried. For dinner, I originally had a burger in mind - and they did look delicious on other people's plate. But when I saw the Schnitzel sandwich on the menu I decided to try something different. It was served on a pretzel roll. The pork was pounded thin (as it should be) but also very wide, extending well beyond the roll. The green apple slaw was recommended in other Yelp reviews. It was pretty good but I expected more green apple tartness. Still a good choice if you don't want fries. The sandwich was pretty big making me think I'd take part of it to go, but it was very tasty and I managed to finish it. It was so hot when served I had to wait a minute or two for it to cool. Bottom Line: Possibly with the exception of the flight price, I thought it was reasonably priced. The restaurant was clean, a very good selection of fresh beer, my food was tasty and fresh and Kristen took good care of me throughout dinner. When I'm in Houston next, I will be back. read more

They have bar height high chairs which is a HUGE plus in the mom world! Their kids menu is reasonably priced and HUGE portions! My kids devoured their food, and my normally picky eater could not put down the Mac n cheese! To start, we ordered a pretzel for our family of 5, it was so good! It comes with mustard and beer cheese (we ordered an extra cheese bc our kids couldn't get enough ... so, note to self!). It fed and satisfied all 5 of us while we made our main course decision! Our waitress suggested the pimento cheese burger, which sounded awesome, but I wanted something not so big or heavy and decided to go with the schnitzel (... I know, what a sound decision), and my husband went with the Ruben. Both were outstanding and I would order again! Although, next time, I'm coming for the burger!Their fries are homemade and double fried and I couldn't stop eating them! They're addicting! On a good note - This place has the best Rueben I've ever had! Their French fries are super good too. However, yesterday my husband got the burger & requested pepper jack cheese on it. They did not make it as requested. I decided to try something different on the menu & I ordered the Sweet Tea Chicken sandwich - don't get it!! It's a disappointment! The crust was burnt in spots, it was dry & very little flavor. I have to say that my BIGGEST complaint about this restaurant is the seating options! If you're young & thin - no problem. If your older - super awkward & uncomfortable!! The booth design are rigid, tight & causes hip & leg pain in the elderly. We all started with a sausage board and German style beers. The beers were fantastic. There were two types of sausages and home made pickles, all excellent. Color me impressed. Best Reuben I've ever eaten and what a unique spin they put on it. Absolutely fantastic. Pulled corned beef, pepperjack, homemade sauerkraut, roasted poblano peppers, pretzel bun. I went here with my family. We had not been since the year before. The menu had some changes and I didn't see what I had ordered before. The food is not good. They are creating flavor combinations that really don't go well together. The chili cheese fries tasted sweet and seemed like there were curry spices in the chili. The chicken sandwich had a cheese on it that was not good paired with the chicken. It also had a spring salad mix of lettuce on it. This lettuce was very earthy tasting and overpowered the sandwich. There were sweet pickles on the burgers and the same lettuce mix. It seemed like the restaurant was trying to fancy up the food too much when we just wanted a good burger and chicken sandwich with our beer. Also, the soft drinks are served in tiny beer glasses. These do not leave room for ice when you order iced tea. Two of our meals came out with under cooked meat (hamburgers). They had to be remade while I ate my chicken sandwich alone. I'm not a huge fan of "bar" food but Fire Ant Brewing provided a restaurant/home cooked level of taste. When you come, make sure to join their rewards program, I've gotten something free almost every visit, from free beer to free appetizers. All you need to earn points is "Check In" so you don't have to meet a ridiculous dollar amount before earning points. Anyways, this is a great little place in the middle of Old Tomball, good to hang out in their outside patio during a nice day. There's no shortage of TVs so it's good for the games. I was excited to try Fire Ant when I came to Houston. It was good but not great. The beer was nothing special, not bad just not exceptional. I continue to visit FAB because I like the people and beer. I want to like the food too. However, I still think their food needs some work to get back to the original quality noted in my first review. My recent cheeseburger was pretty disappointing. Nothing at all special and seemed to be an "afterthought" of a menu item. The patty was dry and the bun, I would swear came from the HEB down the road...along with soggy fries. I honestly could have done much better, and they could have too..a simple backyard cheeseburger (American cheese - pleeeze) just won't cut it for 13 bucks. Their wings are, sad to say, just sad. Just can't seem to get the hot ones, well, hot all of the time. Some days they will melt your face others it's like they came from a pizza place, where wings don't belong. Not sure they don't pay attention when adding the sauce before serving them. Oh well...not a "go-to" for me on every menu anyway. My guess is; their menu tries too hard to be unique. Ranging from a twist on a classic NYC Reuben to a Texas "sweet tea" fried chicken sandwich to German Schnitzel and items with Korean ingredients. All the while pairing them with those soggy fries. Aggressive menu for a brewpub but not hitting the mark on fundamentals like that backyard burger and inconsistency keeps FAB from 4 or 5 stars. The beer is very good and their Oktoberfest was one of the best in the area. I'll keep checking in on them because they are a "stone's throw away" from me. I just really wish they'd up their game with the food. Beer & Service (Lori & Sydnee are great as is Chris). My husband and I stopped by with our two year old. Service was super friendly. Our waitress, Hannah, went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. She was seriously so accommodating and quick. The food was absolutely incredible. We ordered the Reuben, the tuna appetizer, and the kids cheeseburger with the slaw. Literally every bite was absolutely delicious. Drinks were great - my husband loved the beer and, since I'm not a big beer drinker, I'm glad they had mimosas.
