Fire and wine Had the occasion to try this on our last night in Vero Beach. On a Tuesday, this place was packed at 7:45. Like in many parts of thE US, this well known eatery is in a strip mall. And in Vero Beach it's also snowbird territory and the mean age was probably 70. To the details: Our server, Kevin was friendly enough and tried to be efficient. We did have several issues early on in the meal, the first being with our reservation. We reserved the one and only booth in the place but when we arrived were then told it wasn't available. Then their signature dish, the TV dinner, despite being posted in great detail on the daily specials board, wasn't available. Nor was the only French rose on the wine list. Next up, bad stemware, which varied across the restaurant. Some tables had better glasses. What does this all mean? We got the sense that the establishment wasn't ready for all of the people who had reservations. The only way to get in, is with a reservation. This isn't a new restaurant but operates like one. The service was extremely slow, and the courses weren't well paced. For example, although we all ordered either an app or a salad or both only 1 person at the table got an app while we all sat and watched. When we inquired why our food wasn't coming out the waitstaff response was "what table are you at" vs how can we help or another customer satisfaction response. On to the food, it was good. Loved the fresh chew of the local greens but the dressing was a little cloying on the Brussel sprout and field greens salad. If they have the tuna sashimi special with crispy wonton and wasabi slaw get it. It's a must. Although it's all the same color the zesty, distinct flavors are there. Try it. It will make your tongue sing. Maybe some purple cabbage would help the color of the dish! On to the Entrees. 2 of us had the Barramundi special and it was delicious. The dish was stuffed with crab meat and a wine reduction. Not to mention the tasty spinach custard tart. Soft, fluffy and savory. 2 of the 6 of us had the pork ribeye and loved it, as well as the Mac n cheese. It was reported to be moist and tender. The wine list is pretty good but absolute California focused. I'm sure based on the snowbird palate but one could find some under Oaked/less ripe and huge bottles of red. Didn't look at the whites (except for the missing Rose). Wine prices were very reasonable but offering were mainstream. We had a good time because of the company but my uncles who are local are not in a rush to come back. The jury is still out. We were left with the impression that they are not prepared for their popularity. read more

What a find! This restaurant was so good my mom and I went back the next night fir dinner as well. The owners both made us feel at hone and were extremely friendly. We called and they squeezed us in the first night at the Cook's Counter. This view of the kitchen was appreciated. We could see all of the fresh ingredients and the calm among the three working in the small space making great food! We had the Pan Seared Dry Pack Sea Scallops with crispy roasted corn & brown but risotto cake. Served on top of sautéed spinach and roasted tomatoes and the Pistachio Crusted Red Snapper. Amazingly great flavors and the portions were large. The desserts were equally delicious and homemade. We will certainly be back for more dinners. read more

First two times we went here food and service was great, but last time steak filet was filled with uneatable fat. I asked for it to be returned and replaced with another, but the chef declined. I was asked to order something else. I ordered the crab cake, which were not the crab cakes I'm use to. There was a great deal of crab with a pastry crust on top. This lacked flavor and I found the crab to be dry. read more

Amazing! Europe meets "Fire and Wine" I have dined at many fancy restaurants and none compare to this delicacy! I have traveled through Paris, Switzerland , etc.. i have not been as impressed as I was with this hidden gem. We were on our way back from our trip and decided to stop for dinner. Visiting from out of town and found this quaint little restaurant. Don't let the strip mall deter you. We did not have reservations, but they were able to accommodate us. I had the special; scallops in a red wine reduction. It was delicious. My son had the shrimp and my husband, the stroganoff. All meals were superb. We also thoroughly enjoyed dessert. I heard someone mention this restaurant in the same breath as The Tides and Yellow Dog, and just had to check it out. I heard some somewhat "snooty" comments about it being a converted diner/coffee shop, but all I cared about was the food, which I repeatedly heard incredible rave reviews about. We ate there last night and, quite frankly, it exceeded both my wife's and my expectations spectacularly!!! This place is the real deal!!! Roger Lord welcomed us and seated us at the counter overlooking the Chef, Chuck Arnold, and his staff of two. We always love watching food being prepared and chatting with the crew. Our waiter was Tyler who was fantastic. We had the sashimi and the house waffle special to start with, followed by the flounder which was exquisite. If you are in the Vero Beach or Ft. A VERO GEM. I am from vero Beach but don't live there any more. It is such a huge relief to come home and find these amazing restaurants popping up in my hometown! My mom, boyfriend and I went out to dinner here on Christmas Eve. We could not find a reservation anywhere (we got a late start on that hunt) and Fire and wine was one of the restaurants we called but they were full on reservations. However, after reading reviews, we wanted to take a chance to check it out because it seemed pretty amazing - and, SPOILER ALERT - IT WAS! We went early to avoid the super rush and I am glad we did. The other reviews are right.... it's in a weird shopping plaza but do not be distracted by that! Once inside it's a very cute bistro looking set up. There's is also an open kitchen with some seats looking in so it could be fun to watch the cooks! We were sat immediately and our server came over for our drink order. We decided to split the cheapest bottle of red wine and it was really good! Food wise, there were no disappointments. A few highlights - the rosemary rolls to start were amazing... I could not stop eating them. The French fries with the truffle sauce was also to die for... really, I almost died fighting everyone for more fries. My boyfriend had the duck and waffles which were full of flavor and a really interesting take on the popular "chicken and waffles" idea... I think the waffles were my favorite thing I ate the whole night... they were so fluffy. I had the crab cake and asparagus which was another great dish. My mom had fish, Im not a fish fan but she and my boyfriend did not leave a bite on the plate. All that to say, the food, atmosphere and service was amazing! The service is stupendous, food is unique and delicious, and the atmosphere is very relaxing. We came in for my birthday last night and Roger, being the insanely nice gentleman that he is, squeezed us in! We sat at the bar in front of he open kitchen (which was really cool), the kitchen staff was really nice and helpful with menu choices; we shared the oysters and the sweet breads which were both spectacular and for the main courses we had the crab cake and the tenderloin pasta dish, yum! I LOVE a their food!!!! Always a great experience! Be sure to plan ahead, call for hours and reservations because they are not a very big restaurant. We tend to go more for special occasions, because it is a little pricey, BUT that doesn't stop me from ordering to go; a couple appetizers or a little something for myself every once in a while . Terrible and over priced. I told the waiter I was vegetarian and asked what they could make since there were no vegetarian dishes on the menu. He went and spoke with the "chef" who said he would make me something with the sides and veggies they had for the day. I said that sounded great. What I was given was a plate of charred yet raw vegetables, some kind of veggie hash which was bland, beets that were over cooked, stewed tomatoes and the worst was everything was swimming on a plate of balsamic and pesto vinaigrette. It was drenched and soggy. Even if you had served raw vegetables it would have been better. When they asked how it was I was honest and said underwhelming. The guy then said that people "who know them" call a day in advance to request vegetarian dishes. That is ridiculous to me, a "chef" should be able to prepare something creative and delicious regardless if they're given a "heads up". My partner had a completely boring seafood pasta, he said it was bland and uninteresting. I gave them one star for the pear parsnip soup which was fine. The entire meal cost $91 with tip. Way too expensive. I have no issue paying for a great meal but this was just bad over priced food. Another bad mark is that we sat in the back by the door that leads outside and all night staff was going out to smoke and wafts of cigarette smoke kept coming in. Very unappetizing. This is a terrific little restaurant in the most unexpected of locations. Everything we had was terrific. Started off with a Ramon Bilbao Rioja Spanish wine. It was good, but next time I'll ask for the alternate wine menu with French and Italian wines. Currently, there are only beer and wine drink choices. We started with the escargot appetizer and soup of the day. My group loved the generous portion of soup and it's unique combination of flavors including pear. The escargot served with egg was a new take for me, and very enjoyable. Two of our group had the pan seared triple tail. We all loved it. I had the Faroe Island salmon. It was very good. Order the extras. The Brussels sprouts and asparagus were delicious. I didn't try the frittes, but they looked good. Service was excellent. The owner was present and casually engaging with customers. The most flavorful food of all Vero Beach!!! Braised short ribs were so tender. Best crab cake hands down. The crab cakes flavor and texture were spot on! The fried green tomatoes with the pork belly and homemade pimento cheese is sinful! The flavors marry together and remind me of home in Charleston, SC. Off the beaten path but so worth it!!!
