Although Dr. Hoffman is a specialist - he is detached and uncaring, and doesn't address concerns completely.

A friends husband had recently had cataract surgery with Dr. Neale and was very satisfied with his work and really enjoyed Dr. Neale's personality. I made an appointment and immediately felt like he cared about me. I have never felt rushed by Dr. Neale and he never makes me feel silly for asking questions or feeling scared of having eye surgery at 49. I had my first eye done in June of 2020 and it went quite well. The next eye was done in July of 2020 and I'd noticed I was seeing differently between eyes. Dr. Neale explained he'd used an acrylic lens in the left eye as it is traditionally better for those of us with astigmatism, however it was creating 'tunnel vision' for me. He offered to re-do the surgery with no out of pocket for me. In Jan. 2021 he redid the surgery and implanted a silicone lens and I am very happy with the results. I see 20/15 in my right eye now and 20/25 in my left eye! I no longer need glasses for distance! Dr Neale was quick to respond to concerns I had regarding an issue with a nurse allowing her mask to slip below her nose and ushering a post-surgery client awaiting their ride to the waiting area without a mask. He has implemented a 'pager' system now for the patient's rides so they can be notified easier post surgery rather than waiting for phone calls to be received/answered (which was why this patient was waiting without a mask for so long in the lobby). I will say, that most of the time I've had to go in, the visits take an hour or more. Dr. Neale deals with lots of people that are elderly or on the verge of losing their sight so I understand when I have to wait for long periods as I'd want him to spend all of the time that I needed with me if I was in crisis too. I appreciate Dr. Neale's compassion, smarts, presence and abilities. He has a patient for life in me! Thank you for saving my vision Dr. N! Highly recommend Dr. Neale for cataract or lens implant surgery!

They scheduled him for cataract surgery. Told him to be at the hospital at 7am for the procedure. Waited 1.75hrs before they even called him back then started the surgery 1 hr late. Took him to a follow up that same afternoon after the surgery. 3:30pm appt time. We ended up seeing Dr Neale just before 5pm!! And when my dad mentioned he was not happy about the wait time Dr Neale acted like we were the ones being rude and he literally talked so fast through all of like 3 minutes of follow up time. So we waited an hour and a half there to have about 3 minutes with the Dr acted like it was rude of us to say something about that. Today in total between both appointments we spent over 3 hours just waiting for them. I can understand running late some of the time but consistently making patients wait for hours is terrible business practice. I don't think they would like their time being treated that way.

This has proven disastrous for some senior citizen patients, including my mother who ended up with a botched glaucoma surgery in one eye, and another senior citizen who had been through two glaucoma surgeries with Dr. Fleming--who completely neglected to tell her that she had wet macular degeneration. (By the time this woman moved to a different doctor, that new doctor had the unfortunate task of breaking the news to her that she had advanced wet macular degeneration, something that Drs. Ofner and Fleming declined to tell her.) Both doctors seem overly interested in surgeries, and it's been my personal experience that anything unrelated to surgery or eye glasses is effectively not of any interest. In my case, I have profound dry eye, and when I finally went in to Dr. Ofner seeking some relief for this, I was using $150+ per month for over the counter drops, and was desperate for a solution. They did no meaningful diagnosis or analysis and simply told me to keep using those eye drops and put a warm wet washcloth over my eyes in the morning. In passing conversations with other friends, I discovered that there actually is a treatment for dry eye, but apparently Dr. Ofner didn't want to be bothered. Instead I went to see Dr. Dunks at Family Vision Center and she did a full examination, including an analysis that would help identify exactly how long it took for my tears to evaporate--as it turned out, the second I blinked and opened my eyes, my tears would evaporate. It was no wonder my eyes felt so horrible--but the fact that Dr. Ofner's office made no attempt to diagnose any portion of what was going wrong was simply baffling. She laid out several different options, and because I am a big scaredy cat, I didn't want to go with ductal plugs (which I hear work amazingly well). Instead I use a prescription eye drop called Restasis; this is not a cheap medication (the insurance copay is quite high), but it absolutely changed my life. Dr. Dunks had laid out some other progressively more "intense" possible treatments, including networking with a doctor in Portland regarding a special "eyelid massage" machine that can help with dry eye. The fact that she put time into diagnosis and too my discomfort seriously enough to do additional research was a night and day difference in my experience with Dr. Ofner's practice. For your own benefit, I would avoid Dr. Ofner's practice. If you have any loved ones who are senior citizens who are already seeing Dr. Ofner or Dr. Fleming, I would get them out of there as quickly as you can, and connect them to another doctor right away.

While initially impressed by Dr. Peter Karth's team, my visit was marred by multiple unprofessional experiences. The biggest issue stemmed from not being informed in advance that my eyes might be dilated. I drove myself to the appointment only to find out they would be. This left me with having to choose between calling my husband for a ride and leaving our car downtown overnight or attempting to drive myself home with watery, blurry, eyes, facing the bright afternoon sun. This is a choice I shouldn't have had to make. When I brought it up to Dr. Karth, he dismissed my concerns, telling me he 'drives with dilated eyes all the time', and when I brought it up with his scheduler at checkout, she said "oh, my bad" and offered me their wraparound sunglasses as the (apparently obvious) solution. Using my own Transitions lenses, I got home, but it was a scary drive and was one I shouldn't have had to make - or choose to make. The lack of responsibility for that is appalling at best and dangerous at worst. In addition, I watched several people come in and out of my treatment room which apparently doubled as a storage closet without saying a word to me. I wasn't expecting conversation, but a simple 'excuse me' would have gone a long way to feeling seen. Finally, I watched three women (including Dr. Karth's scheduler) make fun of a confused older gentleman who was trying to figure out where his next appointment was going to be. He wasn't being rude, just confused, and after giving him the ultimatum of 'Salem or Garden Way', he took Garden Way and left. They proceeded to giggle and snicker about him a full minute (at least) before acknowledging me waiting for checkout. Yes, public-facing jobs can be stressful but acting that way in front of another patient? Really? In the hopes that I had just hit them on a bad day, I typed up my experience, e-mailed it, and dropped off a copy the next day. I haven't heard a word back which tells me that this behavior is not only normal but fully acceptable to Dr. Karth. I hope this review finds its way into all the glowing ones so maybe someone else doesn't have to make the choice I did.

From the get-go, the office staff were incredibly accommodating and welcoming. After the first visit, they all knew me by name and knew exactly who I was when I called in. The office is incredibly flexible with appointments, and is willing to work around your schedule. After I went in for my consultation and was waiting for my results, I got a call from the office saying that I needed to come back in for some more imaging. When I got there, I was told that my eyes were really unique, and Dr. Haines was getting second opinions from doctors before proceeding. I was pretty worried that I wouldn't qualify, but after consulting with other doctors, Dr. Haines felt that it was safe to proceed. I really appreciated the fact that he was putting my safety first, and was allowing me to visit his office so much without me having to pay a dime (since I had not yet committed at that point). He really cares about his patients health and safety. Everything from the first visit to the actual surgery went incredibly smoothly. I never felt worried, awkward, or out of place. On the day of the surgery Dr. Haines had a masseuse there to ease up his patients prior to the surgery. As for the surgery itself, it went flawlessly. At the end, I was gifted a dvd that recorded the surgery through the microscope. It is amazing! When I was reading reviews and doing research for lasik in Oregon, I kept trying to look for a price listed online but no place offered them. When I called most offices, I was told to come in for a consultation and they could tell me there. However, when I called Dr. Haines's office, I was told immediately on the phone that it would be just over $5000 for both eyes. This included all of the eye medication I would need, and any follow up corrective surgery I may need the following year. Since I'm a college student, I asked if they had financing options and sure enough, you can finance it out over 2 years with no interest. It comes out to just over $200 a month and it is the best decision I have made in my life. My eyes have been perfect following the surgery, and I highly, highly recommend anyone on the fence to pull the trigger and get lasik. It is life changing. Thank you everyone at Oregon iLasik!
