I plan my work trips to Boston to be here Thursday for "the whitey wrap" best Buffalo chicken sandwich in the game. My girlfriend's kid loves Buffalo chicken it's his favorite. I literally planned a return flight Thursday night, brought an ice box/cooler and grabbed two to bring as my carry on back to Chicago. It is that serious. I ordered the Big Steak sandwich and the Turkey and each is a very filling option. The steak sandwich is quite heavy and can knock you out with its steak, lettuce and cheese. The Turkey sandwich is my favorite with avocados and a special sauce that makes it very savory and filling. While I was there with my coworker, one of them had their order misplaced entirely (different sandwich) and my other coworker had gotten cheese in his steak sandwich when he was lactose intolerant. The service time is a little slow - there were only two people ahead of me in the line to order, but it took over five minutes before it was my turn. The wrap was tasty and filling, and the chicken was quite juicy. And if you pay in cash, you get a free bag of Kettle chips or blondie/brownie. So why only three stars? This is just great. Again, as most of most places around this area gets a big lunch time crowd. Go early or a little later. High traffic, they're not there to make small talk, their menu is on full display when you in the door. It's cooked in front of you, these guys know what they're doing. A co worker friend brought me to this local stop for a Thursday tradition. Buffalo wraps! In addition to providing very tasty buffalo wraps with blue cheese or as they refer to them here, "whitey blues" a nick name after the notorious gangster Whitey Bulger, Figaro's has two features that makes them a cut above the rest. 1) they offer brownies/cookies if you pay in cash instead of credit. 2) they have pre made the buffalo wraps and sandwiches so that when their doors open around 11:30-12:00, if you know you want that, your turnaround time is very fast. For example, instead of some generic sandwich roll, you'll get a hearty ciabatta. Instead of a regular mayonnaise, you might get a pesto mayonnaise. My favorite is the Cha Cha... Imagine a big steak and cheese with some sharpness from red onion and a light tang from some honey mustard. Be sure to get a blondie -- they're soft, chewy, sweet, and big enough to split between two people. You can tell the staff loves to cook and loves working at Figaro's. I truly believe this is THE BEST SANDWICH SHOP for workers in downtown Boston. I've tried a few other local sandwich shops and nothing else compares. The beauty about this place is that it does not try to win you over with large portions, but instead wins over people because of the creative compositions that melt in your mouth. One of my favorites is the fellini: chicken, bacon, pesto, tomatoes and some other great stuff. What can I say? I'm in love. Figaro's makes me happy on so many different levels. First off, it's a family-owned operation and supporting local business = good. It's chaotic there during the lunch rush and the staff are all yelling at each other in Italian behind the counter. But they all seem to love what they do: make amazing food for people. They take pride in the delicious foods they prepare and it's for good reason. I have yet to have a bad meal from Figaro's. Whether it's a wrap, sandwich, panini, stew, soup, or dessert, it's all been outrageously good. When I ordered the Chorizo and Pozole stew, the woman at the counter informed me how much I was going to love it. I then watched her prepare it with delight - she appeared to relish in ensuring that there was enough chorizo in my serving as well as the sprinkling of the cilantro on top. It was, in fact, amazing. I can never remember the name of another particular favorite special, but it's a sliced pork sandwich on ciabatta with caramelized onions and chipotle spread. The pork is marinated in some sort of deliciousness and it's a great, drippy, delicious, mess of a sandwich. And then there's the desserts. Peanut butter brownies, maple sugar cookies, oreo truffles, and so on. All absurdly good. The only drawback to the place is that they only carry Pepsi products. Currently, they are partnered with a hospital so if you pay for your lunch in cash (at least $9 spent), you can grab a drink or bag of chips for free! YEAH! The staff is incredibly nice too and the music is always fun and high-energy. I introduced a few friends to this place and now they're inviting ME to their sandwich runs to this place. HA! Nonna's Meatball with focaccia is superb! It is the perfect balance between bread, meatball, and cheese. You can taste each of the elements. I must say, the server who helped make the order even put my sandwich in a takeout container with a paper bag because she didn't want me to lose any of the meatballs. If this review were for demeanor, attitude and customer service, it'd be a full five blared from a bullhorn. These people are incredibly cool, sharp as tacks and never not smiling. On a Thursday, post-lunch rush, I sauntered in to a wasteland (great, no lines!), armed with hunger pangs and ready to sandwich. The classic Italian and a dozen variations thereof adorn the left menu, with hot pressed to the right and wraps thrown in for good measure. It's Figaro's, so I opted for The Goodfella - a glorified cold cut amalgamation featuring imported prosciutto, capicola, salami and provolone. She asked "With everything?" I replied, "Everything except onions. No onions." Bag of chips and a bottle of Orange Crush, I admit a bit of sticker shock hearing $13. But for a fully loaded, premium cut 'wich on a quality loaf, it's worth it! Unfortunately, this was not the case. Meager, somewhat gritty meat on two-day-old bread, absolutely swimming in onions. I can scrape away and look past that bitter bulb, but what was left was just imbalanced, tasteless... blech. And I hate that the staff is so awesome, and I hate that they accept LevelUp and I hate that it had to be this way. With Al's around the corner and $5 cheaper, I see no reason to return for Round 2. read more

Interesting selection of sandwiches, sometimes a little messy, but the quality of the ingredients is usually good. However, at $10 for a sandwich and a bottle of water is just a little too much for me for lunch. It be neat if they charged .5c or .10c for a paper cup and had a pitcher of ice-water. Figaro's is the best Deli in the leather district bar-none...you just have to know the tricks: 1. Be there by 11:45 at the latest. This place is going to fill up so if you get there at 12 or 12:15 be prepared to stand in line for at least 10 minutes (worth the wait). 2. Know what you want before its your turn to order. This isn't quite Soup Nazi territory, but its close. Regulars can always tell noobs from the moment they walk in the door 'til they stand in everyone's way while they wait for their Sonny to be pressed. 3. Check the specials ahead of time. The website is updated daily with the specials so go in ahead of time with an idea of what you'd like. There are dozens of sandwiches on the menu, but the specials are either favorites or sandwich contest winners. 4. Don't forget about the hot lunches and desserts. Just because you aren't in the mood for a sandwich doesn't mean Figaro's is out of the question. They often have a hot lunch option which is usually a special, and as such found on the website (see #3). Also the desserts they have are awesome, if you see the Oreo Truffles (aka Oreo Balls) pickup at least 2 bags, you will thank me. 5. Figaro's isn't just for lunch. If you're hungover the Ultimate breakfast sandwich is your cure. It is a regular breakfast sandwich with meat and a hashbrown on a bagel, nothing better to soak up the alcohol with than bread, meat, egg and potatoes. Also check out the omelettes. 6. If you pay with a credit card you are doing two things: 1-You are buying your buddies lunch because they have a $10 minimum for credit card purchases and 2-You do not need a receipt. Gotta keep the line moving. Keep this in mind and you will have a delicious sandwich and a pleasant experience. read more

First off Figaros needs to figure out what time they open for lunch. The website says 11am but yet they don't unlock the doors until 11:30 maybe later depending how they feel. Even with a line 6 deep waiting in the rain outside a locked door they make no effort to open the door. The first time I asked about the open time one of the servers snapped back about them not opening to 11:30am like the sign said on the door, no sign on the door. I told her about the time posted on the website and then I was once again told I was wrong, that there were two websites and I was looking at the wrong one. I guess they post the specials to the wrong site then cause they change everyday. Besides the mother daughter combo "what'll ya have boss", the service is terrible and its almost like your inconveniencing them asking for your order. The chicken parm is good and the sandwiches are decent. I still go there every once and a while for something different but I usually avoid it now as the crappy service and long wait are not worth he walk. read more

Figaro's uses generous lengths of good baguette for their subs, so nothing to complain about there. The meatballs themselves were about average. Its literally the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had in the greater new England area (PLUS in all of Manhattan) and i am SO THANKFUL that i don't work within walking distance of it. Figaro's is the perfect example of the feel-good, taste-good hometown place, conveniently located near Chinatown and the financial district. You'll forget about the money when you take the first bite of that California Roll Wrap. For those with an insatiable sweet tooth, be ready for outrageously tasty gelato and dessert items. The gelato is legitimate; I've sampled gelato from all over Italy, and the quality of their frozen confections are quite comparable to that of the better gelaterias. The storefront itself has some nice curb appeal and class to it, though the layout inside is a bit awkward, especially when it gets busy--which it will.
