OMG COME HERE! When I first saw where it was I was doubtful but the food is fantastic and this is easily the best salmon I have EVER had. Recipe for the beurre blanc please?? The restaurant is quaint with huge windows, but sit in the courtyard if the weather is nice. This joint was recommended by our AirBnb hosts since the husband grew up with one of the Chefs there and knew how good the food was. We went the night before driving back to our hometown and because it was highly recommend on Yelp too. One of the things that caught my attention from the pictures shared by fellow Yelpers was the outside seating area in the courtyard. We really did love the serene feel outside but unfortunately it was raining at the time and staff was picking up the chairs and all. Anyway let's get to the food and service...walked in and were greeted right away by who was also going to be our waiter. It was not a busy night for them since there was only 4 tables occupied and we were one of them. The place is very cozy and with that dimmed lighting ambiance that makes it feel intimate, sort of. Our waiter gave us a few suggestion but I went there with one dish in mind and no one was going to change my mind. We started with the pomme frites....so good my wife and I were fighting for them since we were sharing, jk lol Seriously though, best frites ever and I can't even tell you what they were cooked in or what the secret was because we were enjoying them so much I forgot to ask. My wife then went for the Duck Confit while I ordered the Bolognese pasta dish. I tried the Duck Confit and let me express to you that this is an amazing dish but also light on your stomach. The greens were fresh and the walnut vinaigrette dressing was perfecta and not too sour. Duck was cooked to perfection but gosh this was some really tender delicious well seasoned duck meat, great flavor. My dish was made with pappardelle pasta, traditional Italian ragú, parsley, Parmesan and basil oil. The ragú sauce was incredibly delicious but there was something about this bolognese dish as compared to the Italian bolognese that made it lighter on the stomach too. Usually when I've had a bolognese pasta dish it feels super heavy on my stomach or like a bomb which is normal for Italian food in general but the waiter said that this version of bolognese was lighter because of the sauce they cooked it with, apparently a secret. Either way it didn't matter to me how they cooked but the fact that it was delicious and not too heavy and I believe maybe basil oil had to do with it, just saying. Overall our dinner was very good and service was top notch. We didn't have room for dessert because we also stuffed our face with the bread baskets so dessert is for next time, if ever. read more

So I'm on this Asheville journey with my wonderful mom. Eating and sightseeing our way through this lovely town. We decided our first dinner would be at Fig. Great little and I mean little probably 15 table restaurant; so reservations are a must. Fig is located in Biltmore Village, just past J Crew in a mixed use building. I'd suggest parking under J Crew and walking a 1/2 of block to the restaurant. Now that the logistic of finding the restaurant is over let's move to the food. We started with the Smoke Trout its was our favorite thing we eat all night. The smoked trout was served over radishes and fingerling potatoes, garnished with capers and mustard dressing. We opted for a salad (I wanted the duck salad but my mom vetoed me) and we ended up with the Caesar. Salad was good, dressing needed a little more acidity and shaved Parmesan cheese. The final stop of the evening ended was an aged steak paired with green beans and a red potato. The sides were the star of this dish, steak was cooked perfectly but it wasn't a 10 it was an 8. Our server was kind, knowledgeable, and friendly. Our food was fresh and so tasty. The ambiance of the quaint little dining area was perfect. I came here with my family (9 people and 2 kids) after many recommendations. I don't even know where to begin to be honest. We're a loud family and probably a lot to handle, Mark was incredible. He gave my nephews a grilled cheese which wasn't on the menu and was amazing (Bc I tried it). To start, we had the pomme frites and the fried rock shrimp which were both incredible. We ordered the salmon, snapper, duck, steak, chicken and bolognese which might have been every entree option and every single meal was delicious. In fact, I'd only want to come with a large group again just so I can try everything again. As a side we ordered the macaroni gratin which I can't stop thinking about. The yelp reviews made us very excited to try Fig but the actual experience was just, OK. The mussels were very small and the sauce lacked OOMPH. I feel this place is an amazing little secret of a spot!!! Somehow fig wasn't popping up in my yelp searches, and It doesn't seem to be on open table.. But because we are staying in the village and have passed this place a few times this weekend we decided to make a dinner visit! Wow!!! The Cesar salad was phenomenal with warm crusty croutons! The dish I ordered was the Bolognese... Wow! Literally the Bolognese sauce at fig is the best I've ever had!! My husband had the Mac and cheese which was a bit too rich to finish but it was also amazing!! The bottles of wine are super reasonably priced and to split a salad, each get an entree, share a bottle of wine and get dessert we still came out for under $100! A must try!! Well this lil Asheville gem has been hiding from me but I am happy I got a chance to enjoy. This is the kind of place grandma would book a reservation at and everyone would rsvp. I imagine on a Sunday around 11:00 am the place is buzzing with walkers and wheel chairs lined up out the door. The decor is bright and happy. The lighting and everything is really darling. Everything about this place seems super clean and orderly. The menu is a home run. Everything on the menu seems like classic balanced flavors with proper execution. I was feeling like eating some warm soup and sandwich type flavor and was excited to see a salmon and egg salad open face pumpernickel bagel sandwich with a soup of the day. Man oh man the sandwich was riddled with dill and robust complimentary flavors. This was basically the egg salad open face sandwich of my life. It's a good thing you are sitting down when you have your first bite cause you would be blown away. The mushroom soup I enjoyed was like sipping and slurping Mother Earth.The warm and welcome flavor complimented with Mediterranean spice. After being seated make sure to set your wheel chair in lock position cause flavor alone is knocking it out of the park. The staff was kind and worked well together. The cutest little bistro. Came for lunch in between running errands and, wow. I had the quiche special with a salad and it was soft and savory and perfect. The bartender recommended the bread pudding for dessert and she was right, it was dangerous. I'm not a bread pudding person but I went for it anyways and it was amazing. Mussels: delicious, their spicy, vinegary broth is addicting and I couldn't stop dunking my bread in it that I got kind of full after this dish Beef tartare: also quite good! Light flavors embedded with flavors of the Mediterranean. Pops of capers surprise you with a refreshing, sour flavor that complements the butteriness of the raw beef Pomme frites: decent, but the fries weren't fried crispy. They were more on the soggier side, however, the flavors were all there and the truffle aftertaste is always welcoming Salmon: great crispy exterior with mouth watering spices that work well with the spicy tomato-y base. It was slightly raw in the center, but I didn't really care because it was so good! Panna cotta: delicious but the strawberry wine sorbet was a little too cold. Fig is just great. It gets four stars for service, food, and a homey, tasteful, upscale feeling. We were there for lunch, but I bet dinner service and menu gets five stars upon a return visit. We were in Asheville over Thanksgiving and heading over to Biltmore (we're annual pass-holders and have a slight addiction to the grounds). I was searching Yelp for a place to go - we'd been to Corner Kitchen before and were not very impressed, and knew the restaurants at Biltmore were a little too bustling on Black Friday for our taste. So we opted to try a new place, Fig, and it was so worth the 15 minute wait when we walked in without a reservation at the tail end of lunch hour. We parked, which is the most harrowing part. Then, we waited in the little open-air inner courtyard and threw tiny snowballs at a statue - and each other. Ice covered a handful of wrought-iron tables, but I imagine that it's a lovely place to dine outdoors in the spring. Extra flatware is kept in a repurposed vintage dresser against the stone, which I find adorable. The venue is honestly tiny, but I think that is part of what makes it feel special and unique. It was quite loud but not in the sense that it bothers you - in the sense that you feel like you are inside of a high-end diner scene in a movie: glasses and platters and silverware clinking; the murmur of conversations but nothing so distinct that you feel you're eaves-dropping; the rustle of the servers as they pass through the narrow tables to instantly retrieve empty plates. The lunch menu is short and select, but every dish has a lot of hand-crafted aspects. The server was terrific, with water refilled, bread brought, and really going above and beyond by offering two samples of the Reisling when I asked for a glass. C got the homemade chicken salad served with leafy greens, while I opted for the macaroni gratin with a side salad. To call it mac and cheese is almost an insult. There are four types of cheese in it, I think, and the real winner is the creamy texture. It's not at all dry despite being baked in a little casserole dish - it's the opposite - it's perfection. Possibly the best mac and cheese I've ever had. Don't believe me? It was crusty on top, creamy underneath, and brimming with smoked applewood bacon, which infuses the entire dish with flavor and happiness. Oh my god I want more of it now. Didn't take a pic b/c it's one of those foods that doesn't look half as amazing as it tastes. Just go, and try it. So, yeah. I want to go back for dinner on a different visit and try a range of dishes that I noticed on the menu. Until we meet again... read more

Another great meal in Asheville. This town always seems to impress me especially with their food. I came to town for a quick visit recently, it's always amazing to see Asheville decorated for the holidays! Fig is tucked back in the corner of Biltmore Village. This tiny restaurant (10 to 12 tables) was well worth the visit. We made reservations earlier in the day for a 7pm dinner, no problems at all. After walking in I was impressed we were able to get a table on such short notice as I mentioned this is a very small restaurant. The size of this place gives it even more character. Such a nice intimate restaurant where you really get a chance to enjoy the service and the meal. We started off with the truffle pomme frites so fresh and delicious nothing like the taste of truffles. Not one fry was left in that large plate they served us. The wine prices were very reasonable as well. We ordered a bottle of rose' for $32. The menu has just enough to choose from with plenty of options for vegetarians as well. My mom ordered the mac and cheese gratin, such a great dish to go along with the cool weather outside. My sis ordered the flounder which was served with fried kale on the side it was a great looking and tasting dish, the hints of curry were so good. I ordered the salmon served over polenta and red cabbage. All these dishes were so unique and all fantastic. I can't wait to get back here on my next visit. This small cafe is a cute little place on the edge of Biltmore Village. I had a late night at my studio and decide to get a quick take out meal from them. The space is small and intimate and the wait staff very engaging and helpful. I sat at the bar and had a beer while I ordered my pasta dish and a salad. My food was quick and I was out the door. Outdoor dining area was perfect. Quiet and comfortable. Service was solid. We shared the roasted beet salad,French onion soup, and mushroom risotto with truffle and leek oil. Flavors were rich and very creamy. . They split the main course in the kitchen, which is an appreciated touch. Our first venture into a Biltmore Village restaurant since moving to Asheville and a really good one! Fig was by far one of our best restaurant experiences we've had thus far. The menu is simple and items simply done. It's not necessary to be overwhelmed by choices as long as the kitchen delivers on the quality and preparation of the food. And they did an excellent job of that! Service from both our waitress, Sarah and attention paid by the manager, Heather was warm, casual and welcoming. Both possessed joyful spirits and cared about the customer's visit. We will return to Fig, as much for the food as the dining experience overall.
