I didn't expect this location to be as charming as the one in Black Mountain, but surprisingly it was quite atmospheric, conveying a sense of an old workshop transitioned into a cafe. The servers conveyed a sense of experience. The menu offers intriguing choices with French crepes based on buckwheat or tamales and empanadas. They offer enough options to satisfy most diets. I was presented a set of tea options which were generic, but I still appreciated being able to drink a Trader Joe's mint tea with my tamales. Don't judge a book by its cover. Hidden gem! Great food and service. In town for work and wanted to go to brunch. When pulled into what looked like abandoned strip mall parking lot was not so sure of our choice. But the inside ambiance started to melt those concerns. Then the food made every doubt disappear. The food selection was huge. We ordered crepes. There was just one server and finally after 20 plus minutes of placing our order she acknowledged how long it was taking. She came back and refilled our drinks but still no food. After 45 minutes she finally checked with the kitchen. She told us they were just starting on it. Clearly they lost our order. It was an hour before we were served and mine arrived a full 10 minutes before my husband's. We will not return. Things happen but how they get handled is the key. Finally, after the hour plus we were there someone showed up to clear all the tables. When our bill finally arrived she said she took one of our meals off the bill. Another drawback was the restroom. The towel and soap dispenser don't work. When we told the waitress, her response was they never work. NO EXCUSE. ITS AN EASY FIX. Shame on the owner. We went on July 27, first timers. Saw a lot of reviews about slow service and kitchen. Not the case on our visit even though it was somewhat busy. We had a young male waiter (sorry can't remember his name) who was very attentive to us old farts. I loved seeing all the vegetarian options. Husband had chicken empanadas and the chicken tamale. Both were good but he raved about the empanada and the beautiful pastry dough it came in. He will definitely be back for more. I had the ratatouille crepe with swiss, It's fairly flat and shockingly filling. Great flavor. Both of us had the chocolate and berry crepes for dessert. Yum!We left metophorically fat and happy. Cecelia's kitchen has a mobile food truck which was at downtown After5, they're Cuban sandwich is one of the better ones I have had in a long time, their rice with black beans and sauce is pretty good also, if you haven't visit Cecilia's this is a place to go eat Hispanic food, I highly recommend if you're in the neighborhood drop it they have a variety of products and looks like they have some excellent sweets I plan on eating there again and if you want to eat from the food truck visit downtown after five every third Friday until September read more

I got the empanadas the eggplant and the corn one. The eggplant was soggy and tasteless and it had an opening where most of the fitting already fell out of it. I would normally give this restaurant 5 stars. Food is very fresh, nice to find a good crepery in Asheville. The French onion soup and other soups are homemade and yummy. Only disappointment was yesterday when we waited 40 minutes and still did not get our food. People who came in after us however, did. We were there at a time that was not at all busy (maybe 5 - 6 other tables). We finally just left. One of the cooks stated she was about ready to plate our food - but we had ordered soup first and no mention of that. Another update on Cecilia's..as you may have seen my recent lunch review, you'll know that I am all about Cecilia's Kitchen! So...reserved for a Saturday night before a performance & we were a party of 7. We told the server we only had about an hour and a half, so she knew to keep things moving for us. There were about 3 other tables so it wasn't super crowded. After she took our drink orders we waited about 15 minutes as the drinks came in one by one. Then we noticed that there only seemed to be a bartender, our waitress and and 2 (possibly 3) kitchen staff. The bartender kept putting the drinks on the bar and going and doing other things. She seemed to be weeded with the tables she had, so 2 of us went up and retrieved our drinks ourselves. Then, she took our orders, most of us ordered the beef stroganoff crepes, with a few exceptions- but nothing that was off the menu or with special instructions. It took over 45 minutes to get our food. Everyone was agitated and antsy feeling like maybe this wasn't a good choice for the evening. But the food finally arrived, 2 of the crepe orders we could tell had been sitting and were drying up (you can tell with crepes) but everyone else's seemed to be hot and fresh. 2 had the steamed mussels which they said were very good. We wanted to try some dessert crepes but because everything took so long we had to forgo dessert! Shame! I don't know if it was a staffing issue, they certainly could have used someone else on the floor, and honestly, the bartender wasn't busy and probably could have helped the waitress out, but didn't. Or it could have stemmed from the kitchen being behind or also not staffed - but I was bummed because I highly recommended Cecilia's to everyone, and it wasn't a good experience this time. Covid guidelines enforced. The French onion soup was delicious, best I've had in years. Boyfriend had a seafood omelette: hella fresh and filling. I had the empanadas: quality ingredients but it needed a smidge more moisture or maybe a dipping sauce on the side. And personally I like my empanadas a little more crispy. It came with a side salad with a mandarin balsamic dressing that I could have drank with a straw it was soooo good. What a delicious meal. The beef and chicken empanadas were beautifully presented, and just as tasty. The Nicaraguan tamale had a variety of flavors, and was delicious. We ordered margaritas, and they were one of the best we have ever had, anywhere! Nadia was super sweet, kind, and a wonderful server. She brought a huge water bowl for the dogs, and managed several outdoor tables with ease. We topped our meal off with a fruit crepe, and what a great decision. This is a small French, Cuban, Argentinian restaurant with a lot to choices, we did not try their special but it was Argentinian. We split a few things, meat empanadas a bit bland, but great crust, I will come back to try a other options because I love empanadas. The Cuban sandwich and the pork tamales delish! The tamales had just the right amount of meat to masa. The dessert crepes both good one with lemon and one leche, very delicious, but I can make them as well as I had here. A real surprise today when we attempted to have lunch, really looking forward to the meal. After ordering, even though there were only two other tables occupied, we waited over 40 minutes for any food to be served. Two bowls of soup, a salad, a savory crepe and a desert crepe. There was no unusual activity going on, no apparent reason for the delay, and no reason offered. So, at 40 minutes, with no food, we decided to leave. On the way out we mentioned to the woman in the kitchen that we were giving up. She exclaimed "but I am just playing your food!" Nothing but surprise that we would find the delay unacceptable. I have no idea what was wrong, but whatever it was did not get addressed by management. A serious snafu, one that certainly will affect our returning. I hope they work it out. read more

They were at new Belgium and advertise so many gluten free options.. but when I asked to confirm what I wanted was actually gluten free I was told "it's 90% GF..." and "we'll.. we use cast iron and it gets really hot so there's no gluten left by the time it's done cooking..." no sorry my man, that's not how it works. So disappointed. If you are celiac know they use all of the same equipment for all of their "Gluten free" options ... nothing is actually gluten free. Bummer. read more
