This is the local go to place in Pasadena for seafood. They have great food, great drinks, and great service even when they get packed. Happy Hour is pretty great too with some good specials. read more

This review was written after eating at Fifer's Seafood restaurant/bar once for lunch (alone) and once for dinner (with company). The food was consistently fresh, nicely prepared, and tasty. Those unfortunately were the only positives. Portion sizes ranged from average to small. Food prices ranged from average to high, but even during "happy hour" a regular draft Coors ($4.00) or a draft microbrew ($6.00) cost more than at many pubs around Dupont Circle. Drink prices as such are not printed on the alcohol menu so buyer beware; Ask first (we did) regarding drink prices to order wisely and minimize the risk of an unpleasant surprise when the bill arrives. If drink prices and portion sizes were the only concern then this review would warrant 3 stars, but we experienced a much bigger problem - that of the restaurant management expecting we pay for the restaurant's mistake. We were charged $15 more than what we were explicitly told we would be charged before we ordered. Our waitress - prior to our ordering anything - purportedly checked whether our coupon's promotional value would be honored. To check she took our cell phone (with the coupon displayed) and returned several minutes later saying our coupon would be honored for its full $30 promotional value. When we finished our meal and asked for our bill the same waitress returned with a bill which only credited $15 for our $30 coupon and a curt explanation of, "Sorry. Your coupon expired" - which begs the question; What other mistakes made by Fifer's restaurant are paid for by its customers? Does food dropped on the floor or left unrefrigerated too long end up on customer's plates? Do Fifer's employees bother to wash their hands elsewhere when the restaurants toilet's have no soap? Great classic local Maryland seafood...picnic tables, good food, very casual. I got the Chesapeake deluxe platter - tons of food, couldn't finish it all. My only complaint is that the clams were overcooked. She got the shrimp salad which is truly outstanding. They don't use Old Bay, have their own blend that I liked even better. We came on a Groupon, but I will definitely eat here again if I'm in the area again. This is one of those finds that I love Groupon for because I never would have found it otherwise. .Went here today for Happy Hour and told them my back was hurting couldn't sit at the bar. Bar attendant told me no worries as I could sit on the other side and get happy hour items. Went to other side and told them what was said they said no worries. Saw sign for 1/2 price crabs dine in so was seating making sure I stated bar attendant sent me over to be seated because he couldn't sit one person at table. I order crabs, wings and two Blue moons as the wings and beer are Happy item 1/2 items. Time to check out my bill dont reflect Happy Hour price for beer and wings so I called for manager so rude chic with blonde hair said she wax spoke with guy from bar and he said he didnt day this, so I told her to let me speak with him. She played like she was calling then said it's his day off and he dont want to talk. I told her if it's his day off then how was he here then. I ask to speak with somebody else because I didnt engage in conversation with her when I came in. She said I will go to the owner and came back stating he dealing with crabs and it will be 1 - 2hours before he come out . I said ok I will wait. Suddenly he appear stating they dont do Happy Hour on Tiuesday and he know the bartender didnt tell me this and I stated you were not there so how can you state you know what was discussed. He told me he know so and I asked what was his name, he stated from across th e room Billy my name in the place. I got up and walked to the bar area seeing the attendant that I originally spoke with and the dude I spoke with when I went to the other side to be seat. I asked them both now they stating they didnt say this and they dont do Happy Hour on Tuesdays. I stated you dont as I've been here before on a Tuesday for Happy Hour now today it's no Happy Hour suddenly and the bottom of your receipt say Happy Hour Mo- Friday 2pm -6 PM, so its false advertisement. I say they all were in collaborating to not honor what they stated nor advertise and I paid my bill politely leaving as I intend to follow up with this matter and they cost the waitress a tip. This is the first time I had an issue with this place but I guess you cant trust business owners to honor what they advertise and having business ethics. read more

We ordered carryout and what a disappointment. We ordered the Chesapeake burger with fries and the Chesapeake Bay Deluxe. The Chesapeake burger was 2 burgers about 3 inches in diameter sitting on top of each other on a 4 inch roll with what was supposed to be crab dip on top. I saw cheese and a white sauce on top but there must have been minimal crabmeat although I didn't see it and I didn't taste any seasoning. They didn't ask how I wanted the burger cooked so it was shoe leather done and dry. The fries had a lot of little skinny pieces in them which were overdone and they were greasy. The clam strips on the Deluxe platter were extremely chewy which normally means they are overcooked although the rest of the platter was good. Using Ken's prepackaged tartar and cocktail sauces is not a good choice, there are better brands out there. read more

I must say before I review Fifers I spoke with the manager and he is aware of our poor experience with service and food. Unfortunately the service staff could care less. After getting our entrees we asked if our sides would be coming out and she said yes but we didn't get them. The sides were on the bill but never made it to the table. When mentioned, the server grabbed the printed bill to review it and never apologized for the sides not coming out just an attitude of let me see if your trying to get out of paying. The food was terrible and the kitchen needs qualified cooks. The attitude of the service staff was, here's your bill "Pay it and get out". WOW! Really! If you want the best service, great food come in for a fabulous meal! I can tell you that I've never had better service. They are almost in a fast sprint waiting on tables and of course handling the packed bar. Alex, Nick are the bomb as far as service. When Alex is in the office it's now a tie between Nick stepping in and covering the bar with Nick. They remember me and always greet with a smile! We arrived at 1 pm and were told there was a 30 minute wait for a table which turned out to be a full hour with no place to sit while we waited. When we eventually got seating at the bar before we could be moved to a table, 3 of 3 of our long island iced teas had bugs in them... as in a few bugs in each which I chalked up to old sour mix. The cream of crab soup I had while waiting to get to the AYCE was cold with little to no crab in it and very bland. Once we were seated and began to order from the AYCE options, hushpuppies were dry, steamed mussels were also dry, small and previously frozen, steamed clams were the same as the mussels, they were out of oysters and something else I wanted that escapes me momentarily, and the 8 steamed crabs we had between 3 of us weren't bad albeit small. It was quite the disappointment being told they were completely out by the time we'd been seated for about 15-20 minutes. I would have much preferred to be given a heads up they were running low on crabs before being seated. We reverted to snow crab legs which weren't bad or great.... we came for crabs. This place was a pretty terrible waste of $55 p/p AYCE cost but the service was good.... however not so good that I can be sure I'd want to go back any time soon with J.Kings of Gambrils closer to my home and half the price of Fifer's for AYCE. read more

i had friends visiting from NYC and they wanted seafood and a restaurant w outside seating by the water. I took them to Mike's Crab House on the water but the power was out : ( so i quickly got on Yelp to find another good seafood spot in the area. Fifers was horrible!!!! the crab cake sucked and i ordered the dinner with two, it was so bad that i didn't even take the second crab cake home, just left it. my friend's didn't want the crab cake either. service was horrible, we sat for over 15 minutes being ignored. they ordered BROILED seafood dishes, both came out FRIED!!! they ate it anyway because by the time the food came we were starving. will never return. read more

Interesting, casual place. Half sports-bar-y and half picnic-tables/seafood shack-y. We've only eaten in the bar side. Decent place, in the "seafood bar" way -- seafood is fresh and, if you stick to the deep-fried path well cooked. Haven't been too happy with the grilled options, so we go only when we're in the "Oh Man Do We Need A Deep-Fried Glutton Dinner" to heal our souls. Service is always friendly, but can be spotty / slow / inattentive... but that's ok, too, 'cuz it's a bar, you know? Fair Warning: Not many choices outside fish, fish and more fish. They have wings (Old Bay = Delicious) and maybe a chicken wrap or two, but it's really all about the fish. Stick to deep-fried, expect a casual bar/pub feel and friendly-sincere-but-not-professional-service staff, and you're good to go. N.B.: The scallops have been consistently fantastic. Similarly, not many choices for draft beer, which is a shame. Standard (crap) bulk domestics + Blue Moon. When Yuengling is the closest thing to quality (other than the Blue Moon, that is), ya' really need to expand your offerings, you know? Spoiled, I guess, by living in a part of the world that cares about beer for so long, but alas. The menu mentions an all-you-can-eat option, and claim to have steamed crabs, but no prices and no real detail... but we tend to stick to platters and sandwiches as there are better crab options out there, anyway. There are better seafood meals to be had, and better restaurant service to be had, but when you're in the fried-food-in-a-bar-easy-dinner, this place is hard to beat. Make the service a bit more consistent, make the non-fried stuff tastier, get some decent beer on tap, and you'd have yourselves a place worth recommending others make a special effort to try. As it is, it's good enough, and we'll be back repeatedly, but just a reasonable 3 stars for now. May update later if we try the all-you-can-eat, or the menu improves. Or the beer list grows. Love this place!! For the longest time we didn't know they delivered but they do and it's awesome to have other choices besides pizza here in Pasadena for delivery. Going in to eat here is awesome too, always a happy vibe with friendly staff! My favorite thing on the menu are the crab wontons...life changing! Mmmmm. Have been loyal customers for years. Last two times have ben very, very disappointing. First, went for their half-price appetizers. Ordered the deep-fried oysters and couldn't find one amongst the deep-fried batter. Biggest disappointment was yet to come. Came for the un-tenth time to get the half-price Tuesday crabs. Ordered a dozen LARGE and got a dozen 6-inch tip-to-tip crabs. Are 6-inch crabs legal? When we complained, they charged us for mediums. Mom-and-pop Arundel Seafood here we come. I LOVE THIS PLACE!! AYCE seafood and when I say seafood I mean TRUE SEAFOOD!! I've yet to eat here and be disappointed. I've had steamed crabs, crab legs, steamed shrimp, fries, hushpuppies, crawfish, fried clams, corn, soup and a few other good dishes I am forgetting. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It speaks volumes and is such a good look when you have been going to restaurant for over a year and the same staff is working there from the first day you walked in. It's like extended family here! The AYCE crabs are always a decent size and are very meaty. You can also order Medium, Jumbo Crabs by dozens. No worries if you're not a AYCE kinda person they have a menu just for you too! Beer, Mixed drinks, Full Bar...again I love this place. Try it out and I promise you will not be disappointed. OH!! First time at Fifers. Crab was superb as was the fish sandwich. We've found a gem for seafood.

Fifer's is a solid casual dining seafood restaurant with a growing selection of good craft beer. It's one of those places that operates as both seafood market and restaurant ... the right side is the market, but also has picnic tables for diners to have a sit down/wait service meal. The right side is a bar that also offers full service dining. The beer selection here is good. it's not a mind-blowing craft beer selection, but it's better than many of the local places (like Mike's, Green Turtle, or Two Rivers) and it's obvious that there is a work in progress. They offer a tasting flight option, but they don't have a beer menu on the tables. (Yet. they apologized for this and said they would be having them soon). My friend, who suggested Fifer's as his belated birthday dinner, said they also clean the taps far more regularly than other local places. And this is evident with their Fat Tire, a beer that I find can be VERY fickle and have a different taste with dirty tap lines. Their Fat Tire is ON POINT. They have about 20=25 beers overall on tap, many of them NASCAR brews, but also some nice options from local breweries. I started with a Raging Bitch (no, not my wife. ZING!) and then went over to inspect the taps myself. Three options from Sam Adams, a couple from New Belgium and Sierra, Dogfish, Flying Dog and ... oh MY is that Victory Golden Monkey? I know what I am having for the rest of the night! As for the food, there were a couple of slight misses, but overall it was great. We started with three appetizers. My buddy's wife ordered the coconut shrimp, which she loved. My friend and I split an order of Chesapeake Wings and OH MY those are some great wings. Nice, plump, cooked perfectly. The crab pretzel was good but a bit odd - the entire pretzel was covered with a light smear of crab imperial, rather than lumping it on top of the pretzel. It was good, but not my favorite presentation of this staple of Maryland bar cuisine. There's a couple of ways to do dinner here. You can order a traditional entree - with two sides - or buy seafood and sides a la carte. They have an ample selection of both sides and seafood a la carte, and I opted for this route, getting a pound of crawfish and a pound of dungeness crab steamed. There was a slight snafu here, as everyone else got their entrees, and I was told they forgot to put mine in. But again, they were apologetic, owned up to their mistakes, and brought me HUGE portions with extras to make up for it. The crawfish were good, but I have had better. Dungeness crab, though, was excellent. I don't know/remember if they offered dessert, and none of us really cared. Our tummies were full with high quality, well prepared seafood. (And for me, a few Golden Monkeys) I will definitely come here again when I am visiting my friends who live in the area. read more

Great place to hang out wih friends and family. We went on a Sunday and ordered the all-you can eat crabs, crab legs, shrimp, fries, mussels, chicken wings, and crab soup. The food was hot, fresh, and quite tasty. The wait staff made certain we were never without! The only suggestion would be to either turn the tables where the TV is in front of the customers as they eat or install addition TVs. An overall good eating experience. read more

This place is phenomenal. My family comes here every Tuesday for crabs and they never disappoint. A week or so ago were were there to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and I accidentally left the envelope containing a bit of money inside. I found out when I arrived back to my house and they were doing everything that they could do. A gentleman named Carson told me he would get to the bottom of it and talk to the owner and manager of the restaurant. After only a few days, Richard, the owner told me that he found what happened to my money after looking at their cameras and made me feel very relieved when he told me everything that had happened. He told me I would get my money back and that it would be ready the next day (tomorrow). I am so pleased with the professionalism the two men that I talked to had when I thought they would brush it off. They are such trustworthy people and it makes me happy knowing I am supporting such an establishment. I obviously will keep going there every Tuesday and you guys should try this amazing seafood out as well! They do not ever disappoint. read more

We love this restaurant. Very local feel. Great food; especially the crab cakes. The layout of the place separates into two main rooms. One side is sort of a family style picnic table eatery and the other side is the bar. We have experienced both sides and enjoyed them both. I was surprised how much I enjoyed this place. This area of Pasadena isn't the greatest and I was just hoping to not walk into a dimly lit bar that happened to serve food. This place rocks! If you have kids, dine here. It is loud enough to drown them out without being too loud to talk. Plus they have a great kids menu. We sat on the right side of the restaurant at one of the many picnic tables. Our server was friendly and fun. I ordered one of their seafood platters with it steamed and broiled as opposed to fried. My sides were the fries and shrimp mac salad. Everything was good except for the piece of haddock on my platter. It was very dry. The crabcake for than made up for it. It wasn't full of jumbo lump meat or anything fancy. It was simple and delicious. There are tons of things on their menu, they offer all you can eat sun-thurs, and they have craft beer. Good seafood at reasonable prices. Not much table seating. Went there twice on a Friday afternoon around 3:30 pm and sat at a table next to the Bar. The patrons are so loud you can't hear yourself think. Impossible to carry on a conversation with others at the same table. One of the sides is a shrimp macaroni salad that is wonderful. read more

My wife and I went for dinner on a Friday night on her suggestion. The place was busy, but not as bad as a lot of places are on Friday nights. We were seated right away at a high top table that seemed to be in the middle of everything. Every time a member of the wait staff had to go to the back or to the bar, they had to squeeze past me and people standing at the bar. There were barstools that people were sitting in, then people standing behind them, talking to them. The seating arrangement was very cramped and uncomfortable. The service was a bit slow initially, but once we were greeted and served our drinks, everything was prompt and the staff was courteous and attentive. I ordered wings for an appetizer; they were advertised as "extra hot", but I didn't find them to be that. They were neither "spicy" hot, nor hot in temperature. They weren't even remotely warm, which is a bit of a turn off. The specialty burger that I got was outstanding and along with the chips, was a very good choice. The wife got a soft shell crab sandwich that looked very good, too. We will return, although we'll wait for a better table next time, if need be. read more

Fifers is tops...at serving up terrible fries. Fifers does a lot of things right, but why they use such crappy quality "hand cut" fries, then don't seem to care how under cooked or overcooked they come out is beyond me. The bar is also a mess. Cleaning up after people leave is like an afterthought until the seats get occupied by the next customers. This is a well run bar / restaurant! First visit but won't be the last. AYCE menu includes great choices-steamed crabs, snow or dungeness crabs, oysters (fried or half shell), mussels, and more. Crab pretzel delivered immediately as part of the meal, followed by large butterflied fried shrimp. Our crab varieties arrived steaming hot and delicious. So happy we gave Fifer's another try several months ago. We tried coming here years ago and the food was always great, but the service was...inconsistent. Whatever the issues were in the past are definitely resolved. The food is excellent and the service is terrific - especially in the bar area where all of the servers are working together to provide outstanding customer service. Today was my second time coming to Fifers and it was just as amazing as the first time. Both times I have come here I've gotten the all you can eat deal. You really can't beat the price for how much different types of seafood you are offered. You get crabs, snow crab legs, mussels, clams, oysters, shrimp, crawfish, soups, fried chicken, crab pretzel, fries and hush puppies. I'm sure I'm missing more but the options are endless. My experience at Fifers Seafood was very unpleasant!!!!!! The all you can eat for $74.99 was not worth it tonight. The crabs taste horrible, the shrimp were tough and dry, and crab pretzel was nasty. The only thing that was enjoyable were the wings, corn, and crab legs (needed a little more seasoning). I expressed my dissatisfaction to the waitress and then asked to speak to the manager to at least Comp my meal or at least take something off. A guy came over to the table and asked is everything ok, I replied "Yes" due to the fact I was waiting on the manager to come. A few minutes later he came back over and asked again are y'all ok, this time I said, "I'm waiting for the manager to come". He states, "I am the manager". I expressed my dissatisfaction of my food in which he offered to bring me more food which I declined at this point why would I get more food if I am dissatisfied with the first round of food. I said,"you can't take anything off the bill", he says " no it's nothing I can do". I asked him his name which was nick and asked y he didn't introduce himself the first time he says because you said u was ok. I mean really very unprofessional for being a "MANAGER". I asked for his boss name and number, he first says "I'm not giving you my number". I told him I didn't ask for his number I asking for your bosses, so he writes the names on a piece paper illegible. I told him I can't understand that and could he write it neatly with an email and/or number. He tells me well if you don't understand it you can write it yourself! Excuse me!!!! I told him he was very unprofessional and he is representing the restaurant terribly. He then says do u want me to call the police I said yup call them I'll wait. He then stormed away taking his phone out as if he was calling the police. The police never showed up. I can't wait to talk to Richard and/or Billy Fifer let them know about this incident! Oh and not to mention that my stomach was hurting about 15 min after I left and I ended up having diarrhea!!! When I talked to Richard who is the owners tells me that his workers doesn't have to introduce themselves! Are you serious????
