This place is busy--reservations are essentially required. We had to book about three weeks in advance just to get seats at the bar, so expectations were high. The restaurant itself is actually quite noisy. I know noise is sometimes intentional to create a lively atmosphere, but it felt more like we were at a concert. Very difficult to hear the waiter and each other. I ordered the Needlepoint (non-alcoholic). It was fine, but a little too sweet. Somewhat expected since it seems to be the case with most non-alcoholic cocktails. The standout of the night was the mushroom ulu achiote appetizer. Delicious, well seasoned, balanced, and easily the best thing we had. Unfortunately, the mains were disappointing. The beef pot pie took 45+ minutes to come out. Another guest who was sat after us, ordered the same dish and received hers first. We didn't get ours until they were on their dessert. We had to chase down our waiter, who seemed very busy and not particularly attentive, before he followed up with the kitchen. The mahi mahi special was also underwhelming. At $48, it felt overpriced--good portion size, but overly salty and not very interesting in flavor. Overall, food was okay, service was okay, but for the price, the experience didn't quite deliver. While the food is a cut above the hawaiian plate lunch scene, it didn't quite reach the level of fine dining like Alan Wongs or Kapa Hale which we tried for the first time recently. The chef's special is something I always try to order because you may never see this unique dish again. So despite having my mind made up after seeing the menu, when our waiter described the chef's special, we both quickly changed our minds and got the chef's special for that day. It's a small place with tables and chairs squeezed, so we were very tight against the wall. 8 of us ordered 2 beet salads (generous amount of beets with green salad), 2 dips (3 different dips, could use more bread), and 2 fries for appetizers (they make their own ketchup). For entrees most of us got the mahi special (overly salted; i would get the chicken next time instead). 2 kulolo desserts, 1 chocolate dessert that had strong alcohol, 1 scoop vanilla ice cream (was super sweet, like sweetner sweet), and plantation ice tea for everyone (sadly had no sugar and rather plain). Total was close to $650. Service was mixed - our server was good but at dessert time, someone came and asked if we received the dessert menu. He asked rather gruffly, without smiling or asking how our dinner was...felt like he was trying to rush us out. I came on a Sunday at 5 pm, and we made reservations online in advance. It was fast and easy process to get seated. I will say that the tables are pretty close to one another since it is a smaller restaurant so be aware. We started with fete spreads for the table. The bread was delicious and buttery. The spreads were good, my favorite was the eggplant spread. I decided on getting the lemon zucchini risotto and let me just say... it's amazing. So creamy and flavorful. Something about it is just so delicious I finished the whole thing. I recommend getting this when coming here! My friend got the steak and fries and the steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The ketchup that came with the fries tasted like tomato paste but overall a good dish. Something that was a bit annoying was that we couldn't split the bill. Our waiter said it was against store policy, but that didn't really make sense to us. That's something to be aware of... Fête really is one of those places that lives up to the hype. We started with the seasonal deviled eggs and the beef tartare, both so fresh and perfectly balanced. The Mountain View pork ragù is actual perfection -- rich, comforting, and full of flavor in the best way. I loved the Fête salad, but my favorite dish of the night was definitely the beet salad -- bright, flavorful, and so beautifully done. I ordered the lamb cavatelli (a special), and it's very rich and bold, so perfect if you love strong flavors and lamb specifically. Not a light dish, but really satisfying. The olive oil cake was a nice, simple dessert (not too sweet), and going to Tea Chest afterward was such a fun little way to end the night. The ambiance is cozy and intimate, though if you're seated right by the kitchen it can be a little less ideal, and since it's a smaller, popular spot I'd definitely recommend making a reservation. Every part of this experience at Fête managed to disappoint. Service, food, and ambiance all landed squarely at one star. Our server, Paula, did the absolute bare minimum. She filled our water and dropped off the food, and that was essentially it. No check-ins, no effort to see how anything tasted, and we had to flag down other staff just to clear plates and get a dessert menu. Meanwhile, every other table seemed to get basic touches like purse hooks, and we had to ask multiple times just to get a straw. To make it worse, the table next to us placed their order well after we did and somehow received their food first. That pretty much summed up the level of attention we were getting. It honestly felt like we were being deprioritized because we were younger than most parties there and didn't order any of their overpriced cocktails, while the other table did. The whole thing came off like Paula was focused on where the bigger tip might come from, not on actually providing decent service. There was also zero transparency with pricing. The steak was listed as MP on the menu, and Paula never once confirmed the price with us before we ordered. It ended up being $41, which we could afford, but that's not the point. It just added to the overall lack of care and communication throughout the experience. A lot of people there seemed to be celebrating special occasions, and honestly, I felt bad for them. Between the service, the food, and the cramped atmosphere, this is not a place that lives up to that kind of expectation. We were just there to eat because we were hungry, but if this had been a special event, it would have been completely ruined. And the food didn't help her case. The steak, ordered medium, came out medium rare, chewy, and bland, with a sauce that did nothing. The fries were cold, gritty, and equally underwhelming, again paired with a forgettable sauce and no ketchup in sight. The pork ragu was the only dish that was remotely acceptable, but even that felt sloppy, with uneven chunks of pork that showed little care or attention. The space itself is just as bad. Tables are crammed so tightly together that you're basically elbow-to-elbow with strangers, and servers are constantly bumping into guests trying to squeeze through. It's loud, cramped, and not even remotely comfortable. At the end of it all, we still left Paula a $10 tip, which in hindsight was generous. Her level of service wouldn't even pass at a The Cheesecake Factory. The whole place feels like a cash grab dressed up as a "chef-owned experience." Disappointing experience overall. We were really looking forward to dining at Fête, but unfortunately the experience fell short in several ways. The tables are packed extremely close together -- to the point where we could clearly hear full conversations from neighboring tables, which made it feel cramped and uncomfortable. Service felt very rushed from start to finish. Despite ordering promptly, other tables who ordered the same dishes after us were served before we were. One item we ordered (fried rice) never came out at all, and the whiskey I ordered was unavailable -- something that was only communicated after the fact. The food itself was inconsistent and disappointing. Several dishes were not seasoned as described, and seasoning levels were all over the place. One salad was so overly salty it was borderline inedible, while other items were under-seasoned and flat. Overall, the focus seemed less on hospitality or the dining experience and more on turning tables as quickly as possible. To make matters worse, payment felt uncomfortable -- the tipping screen is presented directly in front of you while the server watches, which adds unnecessary pressure. We were seated outside, the tables were a bit close together by other parties but it wasn't too bad. First, I got the house cola to share and it was honestly not that good. I've been wanting to try out Fete located in Downtown/Chinatown for a while now, and so happy we finally got to experience dining here! It was the day after Valentine's Day when we dined in, so we were fully aware that they would be quite busy. Highly recommend making reservations or be prepared for a wait if you try to dine-in, especially during dinnertime. The dining area has tables inside and a few outside, although it was windy and drizzling that night, so all the diners wanted to be seated inside. The hostess stand is located outside before you enter, and she was very accommodating to try and get everyone a table inside. We were seated towards the back side near the kitchen expo area, so I can't speak to how the atmosphere looked in the main dining area. But we enjoy sitting near the kitchen to hear the bustling energy and reminding us of an episode of The Bear lol. Service was quick and attentive; our food items came out perfectly timed and waters remained filled. Hearing the kitchen action in real-time kept us engaged in our surroundings and a fun experience. They had quite a bit of menu switches for the Valentine's specials and we dined towards the end of service, so some items were sold out. Luckily, every item we wanted to order was still available. The Fete Spread and steak tartare appetizers both came with their house fete toast, they were both delicious and starting to fill us up. My favorite from the spread was the mac-nut tapenade. Our entrees were the Basil Caesar salad with crispy Korean Fried Chicken add-on, and the Bistro Steak. The Crispy KFC was so juicy and crispy. The aligot that came with the Bistro Steak was interesting....in a good way. A French-type of mashed potatoes that I think they used Sumida watercress with it. My brain didn't know what to make out of it, so my senses took over and it was creamy, cheesy, and yummy. For dessert we had the Rocky Road ice cream, which might've been the best Rocky Road I've ever had. The dark chocolate and nut pieces ended the whole meal on a good note. There were radishes I think in it as well as tomatoes-not a traditional Caesar. But it was a good salad overall! My partner has a nut allergy but we wanted to try the beef ravioli which originally contained Mac nuts. They were able to accommodate and make the dish without the nuts. I'm very happy they did because I loved the ravioli. The sauce was creamy and delicious- one of the best beef ravioli dishes I've had ever. We also ordered the Korean steak. The sauce on the steak was a little spicy. Maybe like a 2/10 spicy. It was cooked nicely and was served with egg, fried rice, salad. The dish was good but not amazing. For dessert, we ordered the olive oil cake, espresso martini, and hot coffee. Really happy with the dessert choice! The cake was moist and went well with the calimansi citrus! Espresso martini was good, hot coffee tasted like a k-cup... one note I have is that when the dessert came out, I asked the waiter if he could please clean the table since some of the sauce from dinner spilled. He gave a not so friendly reaction and seemed annoyed but did it. I even had to ask if it was ok if he would clean it... I would have cleaned it myself if it was too much trouble. The biggest beauty of Fete is their commitment to farm to table. I've traveled to Oahu twice this year, and this was only 1 of 2 places that I had to revisit. One of the most endearing qualities a restaurant can have is offering local meats. From their macadamia nut-fed pork to their rose veal, you can taste the Islands in every bite. The salads come with a freshness that you could only taste if you were growing the ingredients in your backyard, and their drinks come with a punch that leaves you wondering if it was the alcohol or a Samoan that hit you up that hard. On my latest visit, I had the chance to have a bone-in cut of their rose veal. I can say that this cut is now tied in first with the best meat I have ever tasted. I am putting it up there with Shodoshima Olive-fed Wagyu. Although low in fat, the calf's diet can be tasted through the tenderness and purity in every chew. A taste accompanies a cow raised in small herds that outshine the beef of those taken care of in masses. You get this here. I don't care about service, I don't care about anything other than the food when I know that I am being fed things so valuable to those who grow them that it's an honor to have a sample of their hard work on my plate. read more

The atmosphere is lively and bustling -- tables are quite close to each other, that's where the 4 stars is coming from ,and it does get loud, but we were still able to enjoy our conversation without much trouble. Came here a couple weekends ago with some gfs for one of my best friend's birthday dinner. We made the res a month in advance online but we didn't realize we were automatically sat outside. I didn't know that if you have a bigger party this happens and you can call the restaurant to move to inside. I would HIGHLY recommend doing the call because we sat outside and it was HOT. They have tables and some umbrellas but it was still humid sticky and hot. The service was good. The man who helped us was nice and polite. I asked to move inside because of the heat but unfortunately the owner (I think it was the owner?) said they were fully booked. Food was okay! I split the ravioli with one of my gfs. They split it for us which was nice and we got a side-- the collard greens which was not my cup of tea. It was kinda salty for my liking. We also got some drinks, I got an old fashion with bourbon which was good. As I mentioned it was one of my gfs bdays so we did bring a cake. We didn't know there was a cake fee-- $5 per slice (and there was 8 of us). But they later said that if we bought ice cream to go with the cake they'd waive the fee which was nice of them. I got the kuloa ice cream and it's a non dairy. The ice cream was okay, didn't taste as I thought it would but probably bc it's non dairy. Parking-- there's street or nearby parking lots for a fee. Great experience, amazing foods :) Fête was our anniversary dinner and I definitely chose the right place. Reservations were made for 8:30PM. We called and let the host know we may be a few minutes late to look for parking and she gave us some tips. We found street parking a block over with no problem. Our server Christi was amazing. She was attentive and friendly. She was knowledgeable of the menu and specials, and we felt taken care of the whole night. One thing too, we wanted to try both the fries and crispy potatoes, but Christi had warned us that the sides are full portions. It's nice to see a restaurant not try and upsell you things. Thank you Christi! Stephanie took over towards the end of the night and wrapped up our service nicely. 2 cons I would note is the volume inside the restaurant and space between the table. It was loud in there until the last 30 minutes of our meal (last 30 minutes before closing). Tables are pretty close together as well. We could hear the conversations of the tables next to us We got the spicy kitty, steak tartare, korean bavette, chez burger, and crispy potatoes. Spicy kitty was ... spicy. All the foods tastes great! Well-seasoned and nothing was too salty or missing in flavor. My steak was cooked perfectly medium rate. It's not melt in your mouth but cooked well enough that the chew isn't too much. First I was expecting a dressing for the slaw, but the kochujang sauce ended up being the dressing for the slaw. There is a lot to like about Fete. Start with the fact that they have brought stability to a part of Chinatown's Hotel Street. Add in a kitchen led and crewed by creative women. And food that is focused around products from local producers. Without a Michelin presence a James Beard recognition is as prestigious an honor as Honolulu restaurants garner. Fete, led by Robynne Maii, has a Best Chef award in their pocket. The vibe is very welcoming. The best seats are at the bar where the evening bartenders are consistently on their game. Why not 5 stars? Well, their popularity has led to extra tables being squeezed in. Unless you have very thin thighs and a small butt you will not be able to sit on the inside seat without the table being pulled out to accommodate you - it is the equivalent of being in a airline inside middle row seat. Having to stand outside in the elements on Hotel Street at night is also not the best introduction to their hospitality. And, sharing restrooms with five other food establishments? I don't enjoy every dish they put out but I know that what I do like will be well worth coming to Honolulu's Chinatown at night. read more

Come hungry! Steak Tare Tare was a nice starter, perfect for sharing, well balanced flavors, and perfect with the sourdough toast provided. Pork Ragu was savory and had a generous amount of meat, sauce, and cheese; it was a bit on the salty side for me though. Service was excellent. They only carry 1 highchair in the restaurant so when it was being used upon our arrival they kindly accommodated us by borrowing a highchair from another restaurant. Our server was welcoming and very professional. It was surprisingly busy for a Monday night. Noise level inside was high so it was a hard to hear the server or even the music playing in the restaurant but aside from that everything was great and the restaurant was very clean. read more

I didn't know carrots could be life changing but the carrots were life changing. Everything was seasoned really well. The fried chicken breast was a little dry on the inside but the fancy ketchup on the side was good. They were definitely upselling the ice cream on us but I'll forgive them because the macadamia rocky road was truly delicious. read more

Delicious Delicious Omg, you need to eat their scrumptious food! Best meal we've had in a very long time! It's very crowded. Need reservations. It's loud inside, don't go to have a conversation w/anyone. Go to eat :) The bar is pretty! The servers are grand. 5 stars for everything! Drinks are pretty too. Fete is our all-time favorite restaurant! When we lived in HNL we had Aloha Friday dinner there every week! The cocktails are amazing! My favorite is the Clover Club or their house-made soda with Titos. I was back last week and went 4 times so I could have all of my favorites! Pan Roasted Kanpachi, Korean Market Steak, Carbonara with crispy Prosciutto and Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich. The desserts are equally amazing! Mango Goodie Goodie and Rocky Road to Hana ice cream are my favorites! The Service is always top notch. Parking is challenging in Chinatown. Very delicious farm-to-table restaurant in Chinatown. We went at lunch, crowds were more manageable than the evenings. We ordered crispy chicken sandwich and spaghetti carbonara. Bothe were very tasty. After lunch we went around the corner to the new Fete Bakery. Staff was especially helpful and we left with cookies and chocolate bells. Yum. What a treat! read more
