When we first came here a few years ago we had a good experience. Now two bad ones in a row. First one was a couple of months ago. Ordered food and beers, they use toast online. Food came 45 min later but still had not gotten our beers. Got a txt to review them and I did. To management credit, they did email me and apologize. They said they were going to comp our dinner. They asked us to come again. To their downfall, they never reversed the charges on my credit card. Three months later we thought we would try again, after all it was a special dog night and we brought the dogs. Ordered beer and food. Beer came out in 10 min, not speedy but far better than last time. We ordered a pretzel, specialty sausage no onions, wife is allergic, and an ala cart sausage plate. We received a txt our food was ready after 40 min. 15 mins later finally brought out food. NO Pretzel!!! Wife's sausage had heaps of onions on it. Both her food and mine was ice cold! Took wife's food in to talk to the manager and was told to wait on line. Got tired of that and went up the bar. A gentleman came up to me and never identified himself. I asked if he was the manager and he said yes. I told him the problem with the order, no pretzel, onions on the order, even showed him the order saying no onions. He said he would make it right. And took the plate. I went back to sit down. 15 min later, still no food for my wife. Went in to talk to the manager again. This time I took my food in, which went from ice cold to moldy. Spoke to the manager. Was the food ready, NO! Did they try to fix it, NO! Told them I wanted the food taken off the tab. NEVER an offer to comp the meal or fix the problem, just kept saying sooty you had a "bad experience"! I really wanted to give this place a chance because the food is good. The service on the other hand is nonexistent. I cannot support a restaurant that has such poor service. I am sure I will get another offer to comp my beers and ask for another chance, but I can not see making the trek to go here again when the don't treat there customers well. Can anyone say YUMMMM?!? I had been wanting to go to Fest for awhile and it's not far from me so I don't know what took me so long but man was it worth the wait. It was hard to decide on what to get because everything looked so good. My friend and I decided to share the giant Bavarian pretzel, giant indeed! It was hands down the best soft pretzel I've ever had...there's some sort of magic they put on there and the beer cheese is delicious. I ordered the French quarter sausage...it was filled with so much flavor, I never wanted it to end. I also got fries with it instead of chips and they were great fries. I forgot to ask for some kind of dipping sauce for my fries because I'm not really into ketchup (there are so many better condiments!) but I used their ketchup and it seemed fancier than most. We love Fest. It is our local and the outdoor seating area is awesome. It is a good size and the atmosphere is always great. The staff are so helpful and polite. The beer selection is great too. They offer vegan options which are the Beyond Burger and sausage. The only thing I would like to have is the option to have them in a bun but because their buns are not vegan we have to have them on the plate. If it wasn't for that they would definitely be getting a 5 star rating. We love the place read more

This place used to have great food to go along with their beer selections, but in recent months it has been on the decline. Considering they are owned by the same folks as Capital Ale House, the pretzel at Fest these days is just sad! Rarely hot, sorta stale and lacking taste. CAH's is so much better. The open air kitchen is disgraceful! Food all over floor, looks greasy and dirty. The other food items have declined as well. The chicken parm sandwich was one of our faves and the burgers used to be tasty, but that all seems to have gone as well. Just seems like they are heading down the hill. read more

Went here this afternoon for a late lunch and really enjoyed ourselves. The draft beers are served in ice cold mugs that kept our beer cold to the last drop, which was great because I always end up wasting the last 1/4 of a beer because it gets warm. Not here! Food was very tasty too! Husband had the Dutch Shafer, I made my own (bratwurst over Mac and cheese with sautéed onions and bacon bits). We also had the Bavarian pretzel with cheese sauce, which was huge! We couldn't eat everything. I would def recommend either the beer and pretzel or beer and meal. Staff was friendly, if still trying to sort things out it seemed. There are signs all over that you should sit at your table and order from the website and their being your food to you, but the website isn't up yet. Will be a cool feature when it's ready to go. We'll be back very soon! We love that this is a different concept and love the outdoor seating (plus heaters). read more

A co worker informed my husband of this place so we decided to give it a try. We were very confused when we walked in, it's one of those places with really long tables on one side that you may sit at the same table with other people. Finally a waitress noticed us looking awkward and pointed us to the right side of the restaurant where there are single tables. They have the QR code's on the paper towel dispenser and this is where you pull up the menu on your phone and pay for everything on the website. I was a little skeptical but when we got our food it was amazing! My husband got the beer burger and I made my own sausage with fries on the side. My son also got a burger and my daughter macaroni. ALL of the food was amazing!!! My kids ate almost all of their food and the fries were to die for! My son said that his burger was the second best he's ever had . Have several good family deals so we thought we would give them a try even though they are definitely a little further Hull St Rd than I want to drive... important to note when they are pulling into the shopping area (going SW in Hull St Rd) take a left because the restaurant is at the corner...a little confusing. They really could use a sign making this clearer. Onto the food! We ordered a chicken tenders family meal for $40 which included 16 tenders (cooked definitely longer than needed but when I submitted feedback in the email receipt they refunded the entire $40! Great customer service!!!), large container of salad, a large plastic container of white cheddar Mac and cheese and a large container of fries or chips (we went with fries and they were seasoned nicely but a little less crispy due to the drive to get home being a bit long). Also ordered a large pretzel with beer cheese sauce (rather brown and zesty) that came in a pizza container which was a little overkill, a hot dog, a kielbasa (huge and came in a bun), small container of white cheddar mac and cheese and lastly a beer cheese burger that came with chips. The burger was very flavorful - a nice bavarian mustard, lettuce, tomato and beer cheese...portion was just right and well priced at $8.50! Overall I think the cost was $66 or so which was a really good price. I would love to go back again and enjoy some beers, I don't know of any beer gardens that side of town (but there might be...we don't frequent that area much). The pick-up and ordering was spot-on...ordered and paid online very efficiently (provided all the options to pick from as well as areas to provide comments) and when I arrived there was already staff member in the parking lot visiting another vehicle that came over so I didn't even need to call and check in. They brought the food out within a few minutes so great process! If they didn't make up for the chicken tenders it would have been 3 stars, but it's definitely a 4 stars. If there was no chicken tenders problem, I would have given 5 stars!!! read more

I had ordered delivery from here once and loved the burger so we came here with our son one night. As any German place, it's set up with long tables and benches for sitting. It was packed that night and 39* outside. Unfortunately there wasn't any space inside that would accommodate a highchair for our son, and if there was open table space it was by a window and we couldn't put a highchair there. So we had to sit outside, in the cold. And another unfortunate thing...all of their heat lamps outside didn't even work! 1 star taken off for that because seriously, in the winter they really need to be working especially since the inside space is small and they often have live music so it gets packed. The burgers were delicious and the home made chips are always pleasing. The Bavarian pretzel was soft, warm and enjoyed by al! I loved the mustard it came with and my husband tried it with all the different mustards available on the table caddy. We will just wait to come back when the weather warms up enough to sit outside without freezing. read more

We ordered a "family meal" tonight for pickup. We chose the schnitzel meal: 8 medallions, hot German potato salad, sauerkraut, 2 LARGE pretzels (with beer cheese and German mustard) and a salad with dressing. First off the bad: They completely forgot the dressing with the salad and the German mustard with the pretzels. We got two beer cheeses instead. The good: Everything else. I have a family of 6. The food that was sent to use was enough for us and we have enough left over for lunch tomorrow. The potato salad was excellent: slightly sour with a hint of bacon. The Sauerkraut was a tad dry, but very tangy and went well with the pork and the potato salad. We were really hoping to try the salad with the advertised jalapeno ranch dressing, but we settled for some Italian we had in the fridge. We added a package of buns and made our own schnitzel sammies. TLDR: A heck of a lot of great food that will feed more than the 4 people it advertised. Staff needs to make sure they get everything in the bag before they mark it ready for pickup. 4 stars (-1 for lack of attention to detail). read more

It is Sunday afternoon at 12:44 when we order. Simple burger and Brat. It took over 30 minutes for lunch to be delivered. Beer was good but service lacking. Burger and brat was average. Probably should not have order anything with"cheese sauce". It appears that there was one person at the register that was also the bartender/beer server. One person delivering the food, then 2 cooks in the kitchen. It also looked like one cooks was training the other. The manager should have made accommodations for training if it was going to slow service that much. We will be moving to he area soon, and give it one more try...just because of the beer. read more

I was clearly put off by the disgusting, prolonged smoking from a previous visit, but seeing how that hasn't continued to be an issue I feel Fest deserves an updated rating. Having been in to eat 6 or more times it must be a place a find acceptable. Prices aren't stellar but on an occasion when you're in the mood for a good bratwurst, Italian sausage, or anything from the cuisine Fest does a good job. They have a good outdoor seating area but since COVID the large tables get occupied pretty easily and quickly without folks likely wanting to share their picnic-style table like they normally would have done pre-pandemic. I like the menu because you can mix & match flavors and toppings while ordering and the sides are pretty good as well. I don't always like sauerkraut but Fest's is really pretty good. The place is fairly void of any atmosphere or feeling but it's a decent place to stop in for a bite. I wanted to say "quick" but but the food takes a while to arrive pretty often, so I wouldn't recommend going there if you're in a hurry. The best visits there are on a quiet afternoon or evening when they're not too busy, the sun is out, and there might even be someone playing live music for you from over in the corner. The worst visits are when there's a line out the door and there's no chance of getting a seat, that's when I turn around and go home. read more

After going on our first Euro Trip in April and craving that German Biergarten atmosphere when we got back home, my husband and I discovered FEST. It's a short drive from our house, which is a miracle since we live in Midlothian! It has that authentic German atmosphere that we experienced in Munich, but the RVA local charm we all love. The decor and outdoor area make it an inviting, casual place to stop for a good sausage and a very LARGE beer. Not to mention the friendly staff and awesome tunes they play in the background (gotta love good taste in music). Ambience: casual, fun environment but it's not as crowded as it should be. I've been to Fest twice now, each time about a year apart. The first time was just okay, but my most recent experience was enough to cross them off my list of places to return to. Walked in about 2:30 on a Saturday and wasn't greeted, so we just sat down at the bar after hovering by the registers for a couple of minutes. We were promptly ignored by the girl who was unloading glasses right in front of us. When she finally acknowledged we were there, I asked her a question about the Stout they had on tap and all I got was an "I don't know"...Okay. I see it as a bar which also has food. You order at the counter then take a seat. There are long tables with benches as well as spacious outdoor seating. Great beer options (some local), available in normal and extra large (liter). Happy hour is pretty decent and everytime we've gone the service has been consistent - not very fast but reasonable. I've tried the pretzel and LOVED the beer cheese sauce that comes with it. It's shareable for sure. Maybe one day I'll try actual food there... But the pretzel is pretty satisfying. read more
