I was nervous about being a propane user from the of usage and cost from those I know. I cannot see enough how incredible every staff member from driver to customer service has been walking me through the process. They are patient and taking the time to explain in assure you understand the caution and benefits. Even when I mistakenly almost let my tank of propane run empty, I could not believe the grace I was given and helpful stepson, how to be ahead of it. Why can't I choose NO STARS? NEVER AGAIN!! Ran out of propane after my husband entered the hospital near death for over a month. I requested a refill before it ran out, but it would run out on a friday night (coldest of the season so far getting down to 11 degrees here). I would reach them Monday and be told they would be filling Tuesday. Excellent. Asked if someone could come by to light the pilot. They "requested" a service call and said I would have someone call to schedule. Did not happen. Day two, called go the same advice about the needed pilot lighting. Day three, I was told that they don't do such things (same number, far as I could tell, same service person) and suggested I call a plumbing and heating company. An extra 48 hours with no propane (no heat, stove, or hot water while struggling with my husband dying in the ICU) because these asshats said they would do it, said it again, then said they never could. Got a real tech from TLC in that afternoon to fix the problem. Funnier still, weeks later, I get a call from one of their techs wondering if I still need help relighting my pilots. I told him what happened and he was horrified and said he was calling in to try to get me a discount on my last $1000 load. Never heard a thing since. SHOCKING!!! I have a leak at the tank that I lease from them. My house keeps filling up with fumes when the wind is still or coming from the east/southeast. They refuse to come and fix the leaking tank and want me to keep the propane to my house turned off and not use any electricity. They have been a no call/no show 2 days in a row now. Not having the tank turned on has cost me food spoilage (propane refrigerator), no heat, no hot water and no way to cook. They advertise 24/7 service for leaks but that is apparently a lie. What a horrible company and terrible people working there. Just filed a complaint with the BBB. Hopefully it will save someone else from the torment they have been and continue to put me through. The fumes set my asthma off and it's to cold to leave the windows open as they suggested. Do not believe the lies, this is a terrible company to use. read more

Rude employee came up to my car while I waited in front of dock after I paid for propane tank refill and yelled at me to "park over there, there's no parking here" (3:10pm 8/18). I then (after moving my car over) mentioned I saw the customer before me had waited there while getting his gas so I thought it was ok, then he mumbled some excuse and went off on me, raised his voice, got angrier, berated and mocked me in a hostile tone for not being able to read the small no-parking sign on the side of the fence and "giving him attitude". I told the hot-head he shouldn't be so rude to customers, he then angrily shouted at me, "I don't care! you get the attitude you give here!" Well I don't care either and will never again go back to this place. As a 60yo retired business owner, I can't even imagine one of my employees ever treating a customer like this. read more

The company should NOT estimate the amount of the bill when you order a tank refill online. My actual bill was $100 more than the estimate. What Ferrellgas does is fraudulent and misleading. Also, I cannot buy to own the propane tank, I have to pay them $60 for a yearly rental. I've had that tank for nearly four decades, and with what I've paid for renting it, I could probably have bought at least several tanks. read more

Wired 1st experience. I had a question about pricing and the cashier was definitely not stoked to be working or answering any question I guess. It turns out Ferrellgas is the most expensive and unfriendly propane fill in town not to mention they round up to the highest gallon. Was told to go pay for 5 gallons before my tank was even filled. Normally places weigh before and after for propane fills. Will not recommend dishonest businesses like this. The employee was rude before I even stepped out of my truck, yelling at me to park further away. Then I was told "good luck" finding anywhere else in town to fill. After ten year of continuous service, we have absolutely no complaints. Service has always been prompt, polite and personally satisfactory. We have never been caught without propane and also have been able to join a customer coop of neighbor to get the best price possible. I would highly recommend this company for local service. Part 2: The third time we ran out was just yesterday. Again, we are still on their "keep full" service, remember. Or at least we thought we were. Apparently we had an overdue balance on our account, and their policy is to remove accounts from "keep full" and place them on "will call" when there is an overdue balance for 30 days or more. You might say "well sure, you gotta pay your bills to keep the service!" And I agree! Problem is, they NEVER TOLD ME THERE WAS A BALANCE!!! No phone call, no text, no email, no letter, no courier pigeon, no kid on a horse; Lassie didn't come tell me there was trouble at the ol' propane tank, nada. I only found out about the balance yesterday evening after being away from the house for 5 days and coming home to a cold house with no hot water and two very annoyed cats. I have no idea how long it had been empty. When I called to complain about the situation and get it rectified, I was told we had an overdue balance and that they couldn't authorize an emergency fill until that was taken care of. Fine. I took care of it. When asked why we weren't notified, they said they "didn't have our contact information." They didn't have our address. Of our house. Where their propane tank has been sitting for years and they have delivered who knows how many times between us and the previous owners. I also know for a fact that my email address is on file there, because I have received emails from them -- though not about an overdue balance. Anyway, that stupidity fixed, I was told by their emergency dispatcher that she would forward my info to the local driver so he could call me and come deliver some propane. I waited around an hour and eventually got a phone call from the local driver. Here's what he told me: since we were placed on to the "will call" service for having an overdue balance "the boss" told him ABSOLUTELY NOT TO DELIVER yesterday! He told me that he wanted to, that he knows how cold it is and how inconvenient it is to run out, and that he is really sorry, but he WAS NOT ALLOWED to give us propane after hours on a Sunday. Even though the aforementioned balance had been paid. At one point in my pleading with this guy -- also, seemed like a nice person and tried to be helpful as much as he could -- he actually told me we should switch to a different company. Their own driver said that the whole situation was "no good, man." Agreed!! So that brings me to today. After my wife and I left several negative reviews on several different platform and complained to the Better Business Bureau, low and behold I get a phone call from the General Manager of the Santa Fe (our local) branch. Here's where you'd be thinking "oh, good, at least they got an apology from the guy in charge!" And here's where you'd be wrong. After asking to speak with my wife -- she is the primary name on the account and probably because she was the one to make the BBB complaint -- the General Manager; a one Mr. Alphonso (didn't get his last name), proceeded to explain to me everything that I already knew about the balance etc. He then told me that they didn't do an emergency fill yesterday because they "haven't done emergency fills" in our area "for quite a while" because of "high demand." Ok, this is not what I was told yesterday. I told him this is not what I was told yesterday. No explanation for the two stories. He then informed me that my wife had left several negative reviews on various sites, which I already know of course, and that she had referred to whoever "the boss" that the driver mentioned as a "dipshit," which he "certainly didn't appreciate." REALLY?!?!?! I informed him that this is her opinion and that it is an opinion I absolutely share, and that it being an opinion posted on a public forum it most definitely falls under Protected Speech. He proceeded to generally talk down to me, complain about the negative reviews and BBB complaint and offer absolutely zero apology. He eventually asked to PUT ME ON HOLD, at which point I told him that he had taken enough of my time during my work day, I confirmed that we would, in fact, be getting our tank filled today, and ended the call. read more

Ferrellgas has repeatedly lied to me. After placing a propane refill order in early January, they have again and again failed to send a truck, promising "it will be there the 14th," then kicking the date down the road to the 18th, then the 22nd, then the 24th, full of promises but never delivering. Now our tank is down to nearly empty, with my seventy-five year old sister-in-law living there and heat about to run out during one of the coldest winters in memory. Cannot purchase gas from another supplier because Ferrellgas owns the tank. What a heartless and unscrupulous monopoly! read more

We had an issue with our propane tank on our RV, Ray was very helpful by explaining what was wrong AND still filled our tank as much as was safe to do so, without charging us. Failed to autofill our tank per contract and we are left with no propane in the middle of the winter. The staff was rude and we are now being held hostage since we rent their tank with no idea what time they will come and if the driver has been directed to come and re-light all the pilots as requested. My husband is terminally ill and this is critical for us but they simply do not seem to care. read more

I was poorly serviced by Ferrell Gas in Northern California and taken aback when I moved to New Mexico and discovered my new home also had a Ferrell Gas tank in front. This was in February 2021. I contacted Ferrell gas reluctantly to switch the account to my name and the "keep full" option which means they are responsible for delivering gas without my needing to phone. Within a week, the tank was empty. My house is heated entirely by gas. I had been there less than a month and had to sleep in double sleeping bags. They argued with me about sending someone out; their drivers aren't close to Taos. I should have switched then, but didn't know the other suppliers in the region. Now it has happened again - February 2022. I arrived home from a month traveling to find the house full of gas smell and the tank empty. The fire dept wouldn't let me stay there. I discovered that the tank hadn't been filled since the time in 2/2021. I spent 3 nights in a hotel while the home emptied of fumes. The local Ferrell service man (who says he heats his own home with wood) told me the smell came from the emptying tank. It is some sort of concentration of the odor they put in the gas when the tank is running dry. He told me it would cost hundreds of dollars to get the heat back up to snuff because I have radiant floor heating, which means the slab foundation had gone completely cold with the gas outage. "You are paying for the gas to warm up your cement foundation from scratch. It will be costly." I have placed numerous phone calls to Ferrell to reimburse me for the hotel expense, plus the additional money to reheat the house. They are not returning my calls. Please don't use Ferrell gas. read more

Just had another reason to not use Ferrellgas. I was walking our dog with my friend that is in a powered wheelchair here in San Pedro Creek Estates. The Ferrellgas truck came barrelling down our private road past us and when I motioned for him to slow he rolled down his window and yelled, "It's 25 mph here so I'm legal." I doubt that he was doing 25, but even if he was AA Gas, East Mountain Gas, Country Gas, all the septic companies trucks, Fed Ex, UPS and any other delivery or construction trucks slow down as they pass a walking person with their dogs. They don't have to do 5 mph, but he was going way too fast!! I am getting on our local blog to recommend everyone stop using them. We are an older community and if they can't take 15 seconds out of their day there are plenty of companies that will. read more

I wish I could rate zero stars. Read the reviews, this place is a ripoff. I brought a 20# tank in to be filled that was not quite empty. They said it took 20# but I noticed they didn't check the weight before they started filling. Then, they told me 20# is 5 gallons. It is not, propane weights #4.24 pounds per gallon so even a complete fill shouldn't be over 4.7 gallons They charged me for 5 gallons anyway. And, they added a HAZMAT fee of $1.00 as well even though they never mentioned that when I asked their price and I have never paid a HAZMAT fee for filling a propane tank before. The manager totally full of BS said all places charge a HAZMAT fee, required by DOT but I checked with two other places and they had never heard of charging a HAZMAT fee for filling a BBQ propane bottle. He changed his story on why they charge that several times. What a liar! Check the other reviews and you'll see a repeating theme here - I wish I had. This place is tacking $2-$3 on each fill, it adds up to a nice revenue stream for them. read more

A very friendly driver delivered my propane, but then propane was not getting to my boiler. I called a plumber who noticed that the driver had not opened the valve to send propane to the boiler, so the plumber opened the valve. A central part of the propane driver's job, but he did not do it. Plumber's bill came to $380 (weekend rate AND out of his service area) and he said Ferrellgas should pay, because he had to do their job. Ferrellgas needs to either do their job, or pay the person who does. I called the manager to explain, left a message, and never heard back. read more

This place is crooked. Like another reviewer mentioned, they charged me for the full capacity of each of my tanks even when I said that they weren't completely empty. The meter was not visible. When I protested , I was told they counted gallons by weight, even though they hadn't filled all of my tanks yet. I will be reporting them to the state. read more

When I brought my 20 lb tank in for refill, they told me to pay for 5 gallons. Before he filled it. I was unable to see the meter for the exact amount, but my biggest capacity tank holds 4.33 gallons. Won't be back. read more

Report this company (or any propane company) to the PRC if they short-change you or you even suspect it! It's easy for them to rip you off and shortchange you on propane. Here's my story. BTW, my alternative propane company is completely honest with outstanding, fast service. Their service and honesty and receipts are foolproof.) Ferrellgas came to my vacation home in Santa Fe, NM after I placed a credit card order for the house propane recharge. (They had filled the tank 2x before and there were no problems.) After the driver put the propane in the meter should have read 20%. We were moving so we just wanted enough propane in the tank to help out the next tenant. After the driver left, I went out and checked the tank it read 11%. It read 8% before he "filled" the tank. It should have read 20%. There was a note on the tank saying, "Ferrell meter not working." I had no idea what that meant, so I went to the office on Cerillos in Santa Fe (where they are located) and spoke with the so-called manager. He went on and on about how he hears this all the time and he said that our gauge was broken (armature stuck) and that there is no way the driver could have cheated on the amount put in the tank. And he said their trucks have meters on them that prevent short-changing (not true, they can still short-change you!). And he said that since we have radiant floor heating that we were probably using large amounts of propane (even though we've never had this problem before in the winter). I believed his sweet talking. Guess what!? A week later we were out of propane again! (...that's after this $300+ recharge that we had just done!). Bottom line, here's the scam that was pulled on me (and who knows how many others?): they short-change you and put in SOME propane or just enough so you don't notice - but not everything that you ordered---- and they hope you won't notice the gauge reading (most people don't bother to go out and read the meter, and many folks don't even understand it, they just trust the company). If you do notice a discrepancy on your meter, then they blame it on your armature/gauge or that you are over-using propane this year. They leave a receipt that is NOWHERE near as foolproof and professional as my other propane company's receipt, which has total gallons, gauge readings, etc. Also, my other propane company gave me a packet of customer info has information that tells you to call the PRC (NM govt consumer regulator agency) if you get ripped off by a propane company. This shows they are totally honest. PEOPLE, it is so easy for a propane company to scam you by 5%-30% or more and you will NEVER even know it. The manager at my new company told me that they have had many, many complaints about the same thing about this Ferrellgas region, but nobody can prove it yet and nobody has pursued it. In my case I am pursuing this with the PRC and I am hoping that they will do a "sting" operation. The gauge/meter at that house was FINE. It was not stuck or broken. We ran out of propane in a week because they never put in the amount that we ordered. Bottom line in my estimation is that 40% of the propane that we paid for drove off with the drive or with some "ghost". So many firms prey on people's ignorance! read more
