The staff is so helpful and they were able to help us find EVERYTHING we wanted. What a different experience than at the big box stores!

This Big R is an interesting place to be sure. It has a super dystopian vibe to it. The store was…read more large, well staffed and hospital operating room bright. Everything was there but the inventory of a successful store. They did have some deals on clothes, but mostly it seemed like a lot empty shelves and most of the hardware was off brand stuff I never heard of, marked up to premium prices. It was as if Cabela's and Harbor Freight went on a date, got tipsy on box wine and woke up in the morning with this love child to deal with. A bit of dna from both parents but none of it from the deep end of the pool. Speaking of which, mom and dad must be ashamed of their child, as just getting in to The Big R was difficult. The parking lot entrance wasn't directly in front of the store, and at night it was difficult to navigate the parking lot. Also I get that Santa Fe has serious restrictions on lighting at night, but the parking lot just screamed "Please stand by, your mugger will be with you shortly." No wonder the place was deserted.

I went into the Santa Anna Big R (near Bernallio) to buy a special dog food. The Wholesome foods sensitive stomach is the best food for my Great Dane & German Shepard. Only one the Shepard can keep down. I was truly excited to see Big R carries it & it was on sale, at a great price. I went into store as they opened hopefully to buy the dog food only to find they didn't have it. Here is where the Santa Fe BIG R stepped up to make our day. I spoke with manager "Nathan" who told me he had 5 bags & would transfer them to the store near me in Bernallio. He could have them there this afternoon for me to pickup tomorrow morning. Saving me a trip to Santa Fe, stocking me up for weeks to come, & allowing me to get the bags at the sale price. Nathan's customer service is the reason I will continue to shop Big R.

Some time ago I bought a $200+ Gallagher rodent trap that did not work and reported this to a store clerk. He replied that I was the only one who had made such a claim. I later learned that an Eldorado friend had complained about her non-functioning trap to the same clerk and he told her the same thing. Sometime later, I returned to the store to complain about the trap not working. The clerk admitted that a number of these traps were indeed malfunctioning and was told that they were waiting for parts. I regularly checked in over the weeks and was told each time that they were still waiting for parts. Some time later, I returned to the store, and the clerk took a look to see if he could fix it. After checking in with him over the next few weeks, he finally called to say he had repaired it. However, I soon discovered that the canister part was still leaking. Some time later, I returned to the store and spoke with Steve. who gave me the number to the manufacturer to call and arrange a shipment and exchange. At that time, Steve stated that he takes care of his customers. When I called, the manufacturer rep asked why the store wasn't handling this. I realized that I, a regular customer, was caught in a shipment war between Steve and the manufacturer. Not cool. Some time later, I returned to the store and spoke with the clerk, who took my faulty trap and added it to a box containing other parts and traps behind the counter. He said that they were going to ship it to the manufacturer for exchanges. Finally, the issue with my expensive purchase would be resolved. Not so. Some time later, I returned to the store and noticed that the box was still behind the counter, weeks later. I asked the clerk about it, and he said they were still arguing over who would pay for the shipment. I wrote to Steve last week that it is well past time for him to either replace my purchase with a working trap, reimburse my purchase, or credit me the $200+. I've not heard back.

Most recently my young daughters also enjoyed their first visit here (5/29/2023). The place has changed significantly since the last time I had been there. There is still free parking. Mostly friendly staff - however, I don't remember paying in different areas in the same building. Speaking of buildings, there are several... The newest is one for glass blowing where classes are also offered. That sounds neat. In other buildings are the following: rugs, gifts (art, clothing, jewelry, bags, etc.) and home decor, and furniture. There is also a garden nursery in front of the main buiding in addition to pottery, sculptures, and water fountains of all sizes. I've never been to the location in Albuquerque. The difference between the two locations is that Santa Fe has the Mercado merchants from all around the world - South America, South Asia, Thailand, Nepal, Mexico, and beyond. We bought items from both the Andean Village Arts and Martz Imports. The pricing is confusing at times. Some items aren't clearly marked or not at all. Other items I found to be a bit steep. I'll be back again as long as I can help it.
