The fish is a bit under-salted to enjoy with the traditional malt vinegar, but it's fine with the tartar sauce. Chose this for my birthday dinner specifically to try the curry chicken. We like trying different things and love Japanese and Indian curries. The Irish chicken curry was fantastic! Could definitely be addicting. Kinda wish I would have ordered some to go as well. Has some similarities to a Japanese curry. We also got the Reuben rolls and the Dirty South burger. Definitely an older place and bathrooms could have been cleaner but it is a pub so... The bartender was the only server but he hustled. Service was good even though a large party came in as we were finishing up. We are already making plans to go back and try the curry poutine, chicken sando, and the scotch eggs. read more

Went to eat at Fenian's Pub for the first time. Went with a group, so ordered the potato croquettes, they were ok, a little gummy in the middle, Guiness BBQ chicken wings, good wings!, and reuben egg rolls, good also, wish they had a little more meat. Entrees: Two of us had the fish and chips, it is a decent size hunk of battered cod and what looked like hand cut fries with tartar sauce and comeback sauce. The fish was awesome! Been looking for a long time for a decent battered fish and chips in the metro area, finally found it. The fries were between a regular fry and steak fries in size. The cook on the fries were a little too long as they were a little hard. The tartar sauce was good, i did not use the comeback sauce. The other party had the corned beef and cabbage. He really enjoyed it and gave us a piece of the corned beef and it was probable the most tender corned beef i have every had. I definitely would go back. read more

This is my second visit here (once for lunch and then dinner). I've gotten the fish tacos both times and had the same server each visit and neither disappointed. Place is very divey with a hole-in-the-wall feel to it and it's small. But everyone there is welcoming and food is great. I enjoy the fish tacos as the fish is always hot and the sauce that comes on top takes it over the edge. The fries are ok but by the time I finish the tacos I really don't care about the fries. Met up with a few foodies today for lunch at Fenians! I got the Thursday special, hamburger steak with mash potatoes. The mashed potatoes was creamy, just the right amount of butter. Everyone at the table got to try my mash and loved it! This was my first time having mash and slightly cooked kale, I really enjoyed the texture combo! I think I want my mash with kale from now on. The hamburger steak was nicely seasoned with a hint of sweetness from the caramelized onions. I didn't know that I can request my hamburger steak to be cooked medium, so it was made well done and a hair tough, but now I know. The technique on how to make a scotch egg is a tad tricky to get right. They got that baby down. Yolk was still runny, had just the right amount of sausage, fried crispy without overcooking the yolk, but thoroughly cooking the sausage. It's like breakfast in one bite! The ladies that ordered the curry really enjoyed it, I got to try some, and it was good. It had some Indian spices in it, but very faint. I didn't taste any heat, but I have no sense when it comes to spicy, the ladies said it was mild. We all got to try the fish n chips. Cod was fresh, the fry on the fish and chips were spot on, but just needed a hint of salt. read more

We were very disappointed. Our first time here and drinks were watered down. I ordered a Diet Coke and was served a Diet Pepsi. There is a difference and I wasn't told that they didn't have Coke products or I would have ordered something different. Fish and Chips LOOKED great, but lacked any seasoning. Shepherds Pie had no seasoning and there was no gravy. So it was unseasoned ground beef with some vegetables covered with mashed potatoes. I love the community that comes to Fenian's. I come to Fenian's for the karaoke, the vegan offerings, the friendship. Fenian's is a very open place (drag bingo, por ejemplo) and that makes it a much-needed fixture of this community. But the service is a different story. Ordering at the bar is fine most times, but table service leaves a lot to be desired. It is haphazard at best. So head straight to the bar if you want anything, until they change things, such as hire more servers, or train the extants more effectively. read more

I do not know in what ethnic group this "Irish Poutine" fits. It is a mystery that I do not care to solve. Do you remember your 5th grade science project volcano? The one where the baking soda and red dye erupted? Keep that in mind. The crevice of brown gravy marinates the standard golden bar-fries. The ones toward the bottom are goners--mush. Delightful mush as they fade away. The surviving fries drift afloat sending SOS signals as they reach for those green chive lifesavers. They are still hot and crispy. That familiar ball-game yellow cheese weighs heavy on them. No one received the SOS transmission. They are sinking into their brown salty demise rapidly. Irish or not; it is efffin' delicious. Don't wait for the real thing in Canada. Stop here and this may weigh in on your original decision to travel to Canada. Editor's note: all late-night bar nachos are delicious. However, this poutine is the exception. It is a gran slam because of its banal elements: fries; gravy; meat; cheese. Any combination of those would be great. read more

Stopped by on a Thursday night to have a couple of beers before heading back to our hotel. Nice pub. We sat at the bar. The bartender was friendly and we got on the conversation with some of the locals. They had a keyboardist who played a little but didn't know anything after the 80's. He did play "I wanna be sedated" by the Ramone's so it wasn't too bad. They even had my favorite Irish whiskey--Midleton Rare. A little pricey but I had to cap the night of with a glass. read more

It's a local crowd, filled w/ regulars so on your first 2 drinks, you have to be the the aggressor because they're working their regulars. After that, you're in, they'll take care of you and they'll do a great job. Monday is karaoke. Just know that. I once had some friends that were cats, they loved to sing. Based on koala observations, It might be a gay bar. Eavesdropping is not recommended after 9pm. My boyfriend took me here because he used to come here when he lived in MS and he thought I would like it. He wasn't wrong. Fenian's is essentially your neighborhood bar. It's got a friendly laid back chill bar vibe. The food is surprisingly tasty and very seasoned. They have you typical 'bar food' but with a southern flair. The prices are very descent and on summer days sitting outside on the shaky balcony is something every Jacksonian must experience at least once. If there was a bar that reminded me of Cheers I would choose Fenian's immediately. As a plus, they have one of the best karaoke nights around the city. read more

The side salad was truly out of this world! Amazingly fresh vegetables and my favorite Wishbone dressing made this a side salad to remember. Unfortunately, I ordered other items. I got chili on an alleged boxtie that I still haven't found yet. The chili had enough salt to preserve it until Jackson becomes awesome during the Armageddon. So at first glance, the sausage and mash looks delicious with shaved brussels but my fried pickles are kind of wet and soggy and boring... Ate them.......hmmm...... My pickles are perfect!! Right amount of zesty-salty-crunch and topping it off with comeback sauce just shot it up the chart more!! The sausage was like a mix of liverwurst and meatloaf, both are horrible, but the mashed potatoes (gravy I didn't find too interesting either) saves it. There's a balcony with some seating that fills up pretty quickly, but walk inside to a darkened pub atmosphere. There's tables and one large booth in the back corner, opposite of the stage area where musicians play for no cover price every night. The bar is, of course, a full service one. Get Guinness on tap! Also order from their menu, which is pretty big for a bar. Scotch eggs and The Bookmaker are two things I'd recommend. For desert get the chocolate mousse cake and expect to share it with friends - it's large and rich. read more

Still, I was there early in the evening...no appreciable Irish pub vibe going on a Friday by 6pm...hmmm. To be fair, service was top notch, full bar, food was...well they have boxtys listed..none I've ever seen in any other Irish pub. (this must explain the reason for lack of that authentic feel). This place is a great surprise! I used yelp to find a place for a quick bite in a strange city for me. Easy to find but parking is off the main corner address, up a small hill around the corner.. Sort of a challenge to get in, up a flight of stairs but worth the climb. Sort of small but rigged for action. I only had lunch, the soup of the day was five stars. I was told by a fellow patron that Fenian's had the best pub food in Jackson. My son-in-law seconded the opinion later that night, surprised at my luck stumbling on it. Have I never written a review for Fenian's? It is a perfectly acceptable place to grab a beer. Sometimes I feel that their prices are a touch too high, but honestly, if that is a big problem, just grab a couple of beers at McDades beforehand. There is nothing particularly special about this place besides it was the only place to get a drink in Belhaven for a long time. There are other bars now, but they are in restaurants, so this si still the only dedicated drinking establishment for about 3/4's of a mile (thats driving, not as the crow flies, to The Old Tavern on George Street). They have Karaoke, open mic nights, small performances etc. Good standard bar activities. It gets crowded on weekends with a crowd that ranges from dirty to fratty. It is a really democratizing place in that sense. At the end of the day though, it is a perfectly acceptable place to grab a beer. read more

Walked in about 4pm on a Friday afternoon, the bartender was not friendly. You do have to walk upstairs to enter. And there was a faint odor once we got inside. There was 2 customers at the bar. He seated us in a booth and handed us menus. He asked for our drink orders but we wanted cocktails so we asked for a bar menu. He seemed a little irritated that he had to go round some up. He did take our order but by the time our food was ready Thank God our waitress showed up. Now she was a dark headed girl with bangs and she was very friendly. We had just ordered appetizers and were gonna dinner plates but we left after the apps came because of the initial service from the bartender. The overall experience was just bad due to the crappy service we got. We felt unwelcomed and unwanted so it just ruined our whole vibe. read more

I was in town for the night and my friend and I wanted to try out a pub similar to when we visited Ireland and England...we saw this one and decided on this via google and the google reviews... Atmosphere: Cute authentic pub feel similar to overseas Food: I'd suggest you try the Irish Curry...this is similar to Japanese curry but they used something like rotisserie chicken instead of panko crusted chicken...very tasty My friend got the fish and chips which were very good also, the fries /chips are very good. My daughter got the Sheppard's pie, its made with lamb and it was good too, she wasnt wild about the side of Rye/brown bread My son got the fish tacos which he liked. We even tried the bread pudding which was good but I like a sweeter bread pudding such as chocolate chips or something...the mason jar type bowl was a little hard to maneuver.
