Nothing remarkable here. We gave the place a try because they boast about the number of beers on tap - but the catch is, they're mostly very ordinary and predictable. All the AB products? Check. Corona? Check. Miller Light? Got it. All lagers but one are nationally available. About a fourth of the beer menu is IPAs. We sat outside because COVID. The inside (walked through just for the restroom) was kind of dark, in a cozy, welcoming way. Signs were over-the-top dog-themed (Barkade. Ha ha.) Outdoors, a huge television dominated our view, and a big chunk of the display didn't work, so it was super distracting. Big posters on the TV cabinet door panels (visible when open for TV viewing) featured pictures that must've been stock photos, or made for another restaurant, or perhaps a former incarnation of this one? They included young women in low-cut "German bar" dirndls, with mugs of beer with the Bulldog logo obviously added on post-shoot. It was pretty goofy. Other than the weird TV and cabinet, the patio was nice, with a water feature and fire pit. Our server was new and super nice, but not ready for prime time. She should have had more training before being pushed out to serve guests. She put straws in our beers. She asked if I wanted to add chicken to my Cobb salad, which should already have chicken in it. She brought us a check when we would've otherwise ordered another round. She was unfamiliar with the menu and knew nothing about beer at all. I hope that management gives her the training she deserves so she can do a better job! read more

Went to to the Bulldog to watch a game. I walked in and there was a sign that said please wait to be seated. I proceeded to stand their for 5 to 10 minutes and finally went and sat at the bar. Upon sitting down, the bartender was telling some people at the other end to leave her a good review on yelp which was a bit ironic considering how bad of service we got. Once she walked up to me, I ordered a beer and asked that they change one of the TVs to a certain channel and her reply was that she would make the change once everyone in the bar was server. I waited approximately 10 more minutes and she put the game on just as it was starting. There was a boil water alert in the area which prevented us from being able to get any water. They said they had bottled water on the way, but never was given one. I would have happily drank some boiled water that had cooled down just to be able to have some. I understand being cautious with the alert, but the restaurant should have been better prepared for it. The bartender kept talking about how bad a new waitress that I assume was in training was there which was highly inappropriate for someone that is new. The bartender was not friendly at all and seemed to have woken up on the wrong side of the bed. The food was ok. It was a nice portion. I got the chicken finger plate and would have really loved some more sauce for my chicken fingers. The waffle fries were good. I had been to the Bulldog one other time about a year ago to watch a game and didn't mind it, but I doubt I will come back to try it out again after my experience yesterday. read more

I stopped in here on a recent business trip to Jackson. Given I was by myself, I squeezed in at the bar and the bartender was quick with a menu and a drink although she wasn't all that welcoming. Maybe I caught her on a bad night. I ordered simply, a Caesar salad with chicken and a cup of the gumbo as that was highly recommended by the guy sitting next to me. The food came up quickly and was okay and as long as I flagged down the bartender, my drink was never empty. It was a friendly enough place. Everyone seemed to know each other and it turns out the guy sitting next to me grew up in Jackson but had moved to Atlanta to be a plastic surgeon specializing in boob jobs. The things people tell me! Anyway- he seemed to know everyone and by the time I was heading to my hotel, he and his crew had pretty much taken over the bar. The Bulldog is a depressing experience these days. When it first opened, years back, it was a decent approximation of the original New Orleans bar. The old dog is looking rough now. The exterior paint is peeling and faded, the landscaping thin and under-maintained. Inside, patrons are greeted by sticky floors and dark, non functional arcade and pinball machines. I was not motivated to order food after being handed a stained and sticky menu. The ladies room was gross. We ordered two beers and quickly left. Awesome local bar near the Hilton. I arrived on a Sunday and all of my usual spots were closed. The man at the front desk of the Hilton recommended the Bulldog so I figured I would give it a shot. Definitely exceeded my expectations. The bar area/dining room is outstanding. Very classy, sophisticated, comfortable, and still keeping a laid back sports bar feel. The TV situation at the bar is great. I was able to watch the Grizzlies game and SNF at the same time on two huge TVs. I had the 'Impossible' burger and it was outstanding; so if you eat a plant based diet they've got you covered. I was so disappointed in this place. Not only was I it recommended, it showed up as one of the best places to eat in Ridgeland, MS. Plus, it was next door to our hotel. They have a LOT of IPAs but I prefer ambers (which they only had a couple of choices) but hubby likes porters and stouts and he ordered a Breakfast Stout. I ordered club sodas. Jackson was experiencing a Boil Water Notice and they were charging for bottled water. The menu offered no light or healthy options other than salads but had a lot of fried foods. We ordered the quesadilla with pulled pork and when they set it on the table I noticed immediately that the pork smelled off. When I picked up a wedge, the grease dripping off it smelled even worse. It made me feel ill and I ended up having to leave the table and I went back to the hotel. My husband ate half of the quesadilla (he's got an iron constitution) and finished his beer. When he got the check, the manager had removed the quesadilla from the ticket. I don't feel she should have done that since my husband ate half. He said he'd give it a 3 out of 5 because it did have a large selection of beers...if you like IPAs so I'm using his rating. I'd give it a 1 for my experience but I still feel I could only give it a 3 on a good day. read more

Was passing through on a road trip and found this place. It was pretty cool. Pub atmosphere type place with a relaxing feel. There is even a wall covered in books which makes it feel particularity inviting. As for the food, it was pretty good. We had a cheeseburger, crawfish pie, and a blackened chicken sandwich. The burger was thick and flame grilled. The blackened chicken sandwich was okay, nothing special. The crawfish pie on the other hand was fantastic. Would absolutely recommend. It's friend and served over mash potatoes. Out of everything we had that was the best. There is also a nice beer selection with local/craft selections if you're into that. This place is awesome if you like that dark wood British pub feel. I had a beer here and the waitress/bartender was amazing! So attentive and helpful. The food I saw looked good but I didn't try it myself. Very convenient to my hotel location. I like the music and atmosphere a lot. I would come back with people but being here alone wasn't too fun. I've been here several times, and I've found the food to be good American fare, the beers to be cold (did I mention 62 tap beers? Wow!), and the service to be excellent! This is a large sports bar with a nice dining area and a patio..but make no mistake, the multiple big screens and huge bar make this a sports lovers dream! I enjoy the specialty brews they have...with a huge plate of their nachos. They don't close until 2am (even during the week!) so you have plenty of time to experience this place after work or after dinner! The Cuban sandwich is not for meat lovers, there was barely a squeal in it (see photo). It was a great way to pass the time after we put our food and drink orders in. There's also a change machine in case you need quarters.
