My wife, myself and our little chihuahua have lived in the harbor for a year now and this was the first time we have eaten at Felys.... We ordered a patty melt and a mushroom Swiss burger along with French fries and a medium pepsi. We were pleasantly surprised when we received our food. WOW.... the ground beef patty on both the burger and patty melt was larger than the bun and rye bread. With the melting cheese, grilled onions, pickles, tomato and lettuce that accompanied was absolutely GREAT. The food was absolutely wonderful. Although Felys will only be open in the harbor until January 15, 2015 we will continue to patronize this small mom and pop business. Granted, the burger (small) was huge, but it was small on flavor. After reading the reviews I was looking for an "ahhhh" moment that never really came. I ordered three burger and fries. One plain cheeseburger, one cheeseburger with everything and on hamburger with lettuce, tomato and onion only. That order sent the staff into a frenzy, they didn't write it down and I had to repeat it seven times and they still got it wrong, the regular hamburger still ended up with cheese (for a lactose intolerant person) and had to be discarded and replaced with leftover food from the refrigerator back at our hotel room. The burgers were hand formed patties almost three quarters the size of a paper plate and came with the fixin's on the side. Included were lettuce, roma tomatoes, onions, pickles, and little plastic ramekins of ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise. Everything was just a little bland. The fries went uneaten, just no flavor, not even salt. If your looking for huge at a moderate price this is your place. If you are looking for big flavor you may be better served to go somewhere else.. read more

Visited Oregon for the First time last week with my Boyfriends Family. They took us here raving about how delicious and HUGE this Burger was. Yeah it was big alright. But NO flavor. So there I sat on a rusty table that was falling apart looking at this HUGE burger patty on a tiny bun wondering how the hell im gonna eat this thing. Had to use a fork and knife to eat what was hanging out of the bun till I could pick it up to eat it like a burger is suppose to be eaten. Absolutely NO flavor. Ran out of Fries and everything else. Asked for a side of ranch. $50 for a tiny tiny container of WARM ranch. Homemade ranch is suppose to be refrigerated cuz of the milk and mayo. The lady who took my order was kinda rude to me also. The lady in the back who was cooking was very nice. While eating this burger I asked my boyfriend "So what do you think, Better than In-N-Out, Like all the locals say?" He did not hesitate to say "In-N-Out is WAYYYY better" That sure did piss off some of the locals we were dinning with. Said he had no taste. Please! Your biggest restaurant chain is Dairy Queen. The Quintessential Beachside Dive... One look at Fely's Cafe and Laundromat and you know the food is going to be spectacular. How else could you pack out a ramshackle laundro/burger joint when there are so many other restaurants in walking distance? Fely herself works the grill and the counter most days and knows all the (many) regulars by name. Okay, enough about that... let's talk about the food: First of all, the portions are huge. Never order the quarter-pounder. The small cheese burger is over a quarter pound and the "quarter pounder" is enormous -I'm guessing it's about 3/4 of a pound. The meat is fresh, seasoned, hand formed and delicious, the bacon is thick and crispy... fries are well, fries. The other food looks good too, I've never had anything but the burgers. As for ambiance, it's got that dive feel. Older tables, knick-knacks, mismatched decor... There's a bench by the window where you can sit and watch the waves come in while you're eating. You can also walk about 50 feet to the beach and eat on the sand. If you're going to or through brookings put this on your agenda. Eat breakfast at Mattie's and lunch at Fely's. Another place where looks deceive! A lot of people might drive by this establishment, unfortunately they are missing our on Fely's charm and delicious burgers! The burgers are famous for being so large, most loggers could barely finish them! They are flavored and cooked to perfection. Fely has a knack for a great burger! Everything here has been great and Fely is just a wonderful person to encounter. On our first visit there she gave our newborn baby a free stuffed animal, and chatted with us for some time. I found her to be sweet, in the most sincere way! This is not what makes me leave her establishment a great review, but the mixture of charm and great food makes me want to shout it out for anyone who is in the area! This place is great for friendly staff (all 2 or 3 of them) and an AWESOME burger. I took my 20 year old son and he was amazed at the size and how good it tasted. He was pretty surprised when his burger was bigger than his eyes and stomach. I have eaten a lot in the past, even an 18" fully-loaded pizza --- in the past! My stomach isn't so big now. A 1/3 lb burger is perfect when I'm kinda hungry and occasionally a 1/2lb burger. Fely's big burger makes the 1/2 lb burger seem like a kiddie meal. And it's not just big - it tastes great :-) Fresh meat, grilled right then, good fries and if it's a beautiful day - take it across the driveway to the beach! Ok, what kind of a laundromat closes at 4pm? If you want to do your laundry here, get in before 3pm, it takes 1/2 hour to wash and at least 1/2 hour to dry. 7 working Top loading machines, $1.75 / wash, Big Gas Dryers are $0.25 / 10 min. There are 3 big front loaders, but I'm not sure if they worked. Also if you want to eat a burger, get in by 3pm before they start shutting down the grill. This is one of those businesses that either don't make much money, or don't invest anything back into their restaurant. The place is falling apart tables and all. there are 3 tables inside, and 2 outside. Despite the looks the we decided to stay and have lunch. I wanted onion rings, but they do not have them. We got a small burger for my sister and a big burger for my boyfriend and me to share, both with bacon. While waiting for our food the smell of bacon filled the place. The burgers came out on paper plates with everything on the side except the grilled onions. Toppings included tasty sliced tomatoes, chopped up iceberg lettuce that kept falling off the burger, and sliced dill pickles, The burgers were huge like everyone said, but they were not delicious. They had no flavor at all. The best part was the bacon. My sister ended up making a BLT and dis-guarding the burger entirely. I asked for bar-b-que sauce to give it flavor, but they do not have that either. The fries were not very good, and between the 3 of us we did not finish a small order. I loved this place! My wife's Pepsi was flat and the catsup was what seemed to be old. However, our food was killer! My Denver omelet was out of this world with lots of cheese and looked like a 5 egg omelet! My wife's scramble was very good as well with five strips of bacon and both of us had big portions of hashbrowns! And the two cute cute lady's were a kick! But Fely greeted us with a very warm welcome, and remembered my dad's name even though he had only been there a few times before. I ordered the ham & cheese omelette, and was surprised it came with a side of hash browns and toast! It was a lot of food for a great price. The food tasted OK: it was about what I expected from a small diner. But when I'm back in Brookings, I'm definitely hitting up Fely's for lunch and one of their amazing burgers. Quantity does not outweigh quality. Have heard about Fely's for years and finally paid a visit today. The prices are absolutely outrageous. A cheeseburger is $8.25 (no drink or side included). The burger was massive (too massive) and tasted like a typical homemade burger. We ordered an order of french fries for the table. You could taste that they were cooked in very, very, verrry old and stale oil. Overall, my advice is to hit up the local Fred Meyer, get what you need and cook up your own burger. Horrible and filthy!!!!!! The burger was so loaded with grease it even made my husband wince! While we were waiting for the food we started looking around the place, beyond filthy...the spider webs in the windows were covered with dust! How they pass any inspection is beyond me! Best burger in town. We just came here for the first time even though we've been coming to Brookings for years. Excellent burger and even the regular size cheeseburger was more than enough for me (and I'm a big guy). It's cash only though and not cheap so be prepared. I never carry cash and two cheeseburgers, one corn dog, and one soda and small fries all to share as a family was about $23. Burgers are $8-$10 depending on size and do not come with any sides. Don't let the name or building scare you. This place was amazing. The burgers are "Oh my God" big, the patty covers the entire plate. (Check out the picture) We ordered regular cheese burgers and had a hard time finishing them (Although somehow we did). For those of you brave souls, try the "1/4" pounder. They have a problem with math as this is likely a pound of beef. The burgers are delicious and so are the fries. You will enjoy this local favorite and also Mrs. Fely. read more
