I went to Felix's based on these Yelp reviews. The first time I was there, I must admit, I was not blown away by the service as I expected based on all these 5 star reviews. I probably just had overly high expectations. However, the experience was good enough that I kept going back. Pete explains everything pretty well is willing to show you what he does. So I don't feel like I'm getting ripped off as I often have when getting my car serviced other places. For instance, I just went this morning since a small under panel was falling off my Subaru. Pete just bolted it up while I waited (20minutes) and charged me $16 bucks. I'm pretty sure if I'd brought it to the dealership they would have insisted that I replace the panel, charged me $100 and taken all day. It's also nice that they're willing to drop me off and pick me up from work if my service takes a while. I'll definitely keep going back. read more

I had to get an oil change and my A/C serviced on my Audi A4, not only because i needed it, but i was going on a trip to LA. The heat there was 103 average. Still coming to see Pete and still glad of that fact. I dropped off my car yesterday at about 1pm. I let Pete know that I had somewhere important to be at 2pm the following day. Turns out my car needed the radiator and thermostat replaced. While fixing the thermostat, Pete discovered that the casing was warped and I needed a new one, so he drove to San Jose from Sunnyvale to get the part so that I could still have my car back at noon. Gotta be honest, from driving buy you would think twice about dropping off your car here. Looks like an older gas station converted into a repair facility. About 20 cars parked all over the place. Looks can be deceiving though. I recently bought a 2007 4runner that the previous owner had installed a K&N Intake system. A little to "boy racer" for me and I wanted the stock OEM intake re-installed. Stopped by on my lunch hour and spoke to Pete (I think he's the owner). I told him I had all the parts to re-install the stock OEM airbox and how much would he charge. He opens the hood takes a look around and says "$65". I said perfect when can you do it. He said drop it off first thing the next morning so I did. Got back to work and I was really expecting a call to say "it took longer than we thought" or "you were missing some parts" or something along those lines to charge more. You know like most mechanics do. Got a call about noon and Pete said "It's done" picked up the car paid my $65 and on my way. Thanks to Yelp and the reviews Pete will get more of my business. He will not charge for a repair that is not needed nor will he give additional pricing for items that are a "nice to have" addition. I have taken my car here time and again with everything fixed when returned. If for any reason there is an issue, you can be certain it will be addressed in a professional manner. They gave my car a thorough diagnostic of the problem I was having, explained to me patiently and in detail what my options were, and quoted a price which I thought was a very reasonable one. And in the end, since I am a senior citizen driving an old clunker, Pete the owner even gave me a special discount. He really made my day! I recently got new tires on my car. After changing my tires, the mechanic at the tire store told me I needed to replace my front brakes. He offered to replace the front pads and rotors for $500 - the thing is, only 3 months before, I took the car to the dealership to get the oil changed (my car was still under warranty at the time) and was told my brakes were fine and were nowhere close to being needed to be replaced. On my day off, I decided to get a second opinion. I live near downtown Mountain View, so I pass Felix Auto Service pretty regularly. I decided to try Felix Auto out after doing some research. From the sign out front, I knew the place is ASE certified, so they definitely know what they're doing. I also looked the place up on Yelp...I saw the good reviews about their work and their customer service. I showed up on a Tuesday just before noon without an appointment. I met Peter, the owner of the shop. He's a really good guy. Rather than turn me away for not having an appointment, he skipped his lunch to take a look at my brakes. He took the time to show me the wear on the brakes and told me what I already suspected, that my brakes didn't need to be replaced. He told me I still had 50% of my brake pads remaining and likely wouldn't need to have the pads replaced for another 30000 miles. Peter really knows his stuff. He's also someone that understands that good customer service is really important. It's clear that he tries to develop long term relationships with customers by giving them honest advice and that he's not out to make a quick buck off of anyone coming in for service. Btw, Peter's price quote for a brake change if I had needed one was almost half of what the tire shop quoted me. I'll be bringing my car to Peter for now on. read more

Find another place to take your car for brakes. After two sets of rotors were mysteriously 'warped' soon after installation, I decided to check on prices for original equipment parts for my BMW and found them to be actually less than what Pete charged me for the 'upgraded' rotors he installed and were soon warped. NOt only that but the suspension "adjustments" he made caused premature wear on a new set of Michelin tires. Take your business elsewhere, not an honest shop. read more

I have never had any issues with my car, but when i did, I am so happy I took it it to Felix's. My Subaru was having trouble starting. I originally had AAA look at it, and they said the battery was fine. Then it began to develop additional problems like all of the dash warning lights coming on and flashing. I took it in to Felix's, and Pete was very helpful from the beginning. It ended up that several different parts were malfunctioning and needed to be replaced. Though it took longer to repair than originally expected, Pete took the time to really look into the problem and diagnose it properly. He communicated with me daily to update me on the status. When he thought everything was fixed and working properly, he even kept the car an extra day to test it out and drive it around town to make sure it was starting properly. The problem has been completely resolved thanks to the work of Pete and his crew. Throughout the whole process, I found him to have excellent customer service. They do really quality work at this place. If I ever have any problems with my car again, I would definitely take it back here. read more

My 2008 Ford Focus' tire pressure light popped on and I promptly took it to Felix's Auto Service. Felix the technician gave me a ride home while my car was repaired. I rarely yelp, but feel I need to. I left Felix's extremely satisfied. That's not to say things went perfectly smoothly (life's often not that way)...but we've used Peter@Felix's occasionally for years, and trust his judgement and that his recommendations are not to simply extract funds from us, but are given with our best interest in mind. This has been demonstrated to us multiple times. About a year ago, when my wife took my car in for something else (brakes, I think)...he saw how bad the tires were, and said go get new tires - do not bother with any of his services until the primary safety issue was taken care of. Yesterday, I took my car in to get front struts (dealer said they were done - and based on the vibrations at anything over 40mph, I believed them), and had called to discuss pricing before hand - and Peter was reluctant to give an exact quote - but I got the impression I could get economy struts for under $1K - Peter said they'd look around to verify what needed to be done - could be something smaller. Anyway, we needed struts, but he couldn't locate the economy ones - and it was a Friday - so it meant picking up the car and coming back unless I upgraded to $1200. I was not happy, but it wasn't really Peter's fault. I eventually agreed...and the job was done great, and Peter took care of an issue with the car that had been bugging me for years (center console would not latch, and would flop up and down - dealer said entire console would need to be replaced ~$300). Peter fixed it for free (without replacing whole thing) - I'm sure he comped the job to keep me a happy customer...and he did. Thanks Peter for all your efforts! read more

This is the best auto repair shop I've ever been to. They were very thorough about finding the problem with my car, and after the repair, they tested and retested it to make sure the problem was fixed. Peter was fantastic about explaining the repairs to me, and was very upfront about price, so at the end there were no surprises. Went here for an oil change after a couple bad experiences with Pep Boys. They weren't the cheapest, but they price was reasonable enough and they were both quick and competent. Unlike some places, they didn't seem to struggle with being told a specific type of oil (5w30 synthetic) and the fact that the car needs 5.5 quarts instead of 6. Lots of places seem to go by what the computer says and just forget anything specific they're told. They also checked the tire pressure (performance tires on a relatively heavy car require higher pressure than most) and didn't make the mistake of dropping it to what most tires need. AAA towed my Nissan Quest in to Felix from 280 with a radiator boil over. It was an intermittent problem for a while already and I couldn't figure out what caused this. Perhaps a bad thermostat. The Felix people were very sharp and very soon was able to replicate the boil over on their lot. They recommended replacing the radiator fan unit and after the fix (~ half a year already), I haven't had a high temperature issue again. These guys are AAA approved and are very competent. Great job! I would visit them again if I need auto repair. read more

I changed brakes on my car in his shop. approximately a month later, when I stopped by at his place to change oil, I also mentioned to him, that when I am applying brakes the steering wheel shakes a little. he said - it's defective brakes. we will change it for you.... um... you know... I scheduled an appointment for 8 am, they didn't open until 8:15 had us waiting in the rain and then told me that they didn't finish the truck before mine and couldn't get to it until possibly 10 am and would be done by noon.
