AMBIANCE Country vintage is the theme and it's quite homey. Dining at grandma's house. SERVICE Kristine or Kris was our servers name (hopefully I got the spelling right). She was incredible. When I say she was attentive and so down to earth, it truly made our experience wonderful. We felt so welcomed to come in and enjoy some good southern food.. FOOD I really wanted to order a seafood platter but unfortunately they were out of fried catfish and flounder so I pivoted to a different entree. - Complimentary hush puppy sticks with cool ranch: they were good. They fell right off the bone, and I really appreciated the firmness of the tendon while I cleaned my bones. I had two sides, yams and cole slaw. I enjoyed the yams more because they weren't overly sweet, and the chef really allowed the yams' natural flavors to shine. The cole slaw was tasty but nothing special. I prefer my slaw more chopped rather than big pieces. The vinegary Carolina BBQ sauce at the table was excellent. - Eggroll BBQ Pork: my SO ordered this special entree, and it was really good. Imagine a big, crispy eggroll filled with moist, tender shredded BBQ pork. It came with a really good dipping sauce, which was a mix of honey mustard and BBQ sauce. The two sides I chose were fried okra and Brunswick stew. Both were fresh and delicious. Since they're closing, the owners are selling decor and other items from the restaurant. I purchased a lovely replica of a pay phone from the late 1920s or early 1930s to take home. Additionally, the cashier was very friendly and helpful. Eggroll options include Cheese steak, Bacon mac and cheese, Pepperoni pizza, Sweet Cuban, Monte cristo, and S'more. You can buy two egg rolls for $6 and mix and match is allowed. I felt full after eating 4.5 egg rolls. You can also convert your egg roll into a topping on fries. The egg rolls are wrapped in a thin egg roll wrapper and deep-fried. Most of the egg rolls were crispy except the bacon mac and cheese. Best to eat the egg rolls as soon as they are cooked or they turn cold fast. My first favorite egg roll was the Cheese steak and my second favorite was the Pepperoni pizza. The cheese steak had thinly sliced tender ribeye with mozzarella cheese. You get to choose either A1 sauce or Mayo drizzled on the cheese steak egg roll. I preferred the Mayo. The Pepperoni pizza had thinly sliced pepperoni with plenty of mozzarella cheese, drizzled with marinara sauce. The flavor was basically like eating a pizza. The bacon mac and cheese egg roll had good flavor but wasn't crispy. It had creamy mac and cheese and smoked bacon, drizzled with smokehouse BBQ sauce. I wasn't digging the Sweet Cuban egg roll probably because it was missing the pork. It had deli sliced ham, swiss cheese, gherkin pickles, drizzled with Cuban mustard. The Monte cristo was good. It was only slightly sweet, not overpowering. It had sliced deli turkey, ham, Swiss cheese, a drizzle of raspberry jam, and sprinkled with powdered sugar. The S'more egg roll was good for dessert. Be prepared for sticky fingers. It had lots of marshmallow fluff, milk chocolate, graham crackers crumbs, drizzled with chocolate and sprinkled with powdered sugar. We both ordered the two-meat, two-side plates. I had the brisket and pork belly with fried okra and mac & cheese, while my husband chose the brisket, pulled pork, cornbread, and mac & cheese. The standout of the night was definitely the pulled pork--it was hands down some of the best we've ever had. The pork belly was absolutely phenomenal, and the brisket was tender and flavorful. The cornbread was delicious, and I really enjoyed the mac & cheese (my husband wasn't quite as big a fan, but that's just personal preference). While we were there, we asked about the beef ribs because they sounded incredible. We learned they're a Friday and Saturday special, but they usually sell out around lunchtime--which tells you just how popular they are! Let me tell you I have never had a better burger in my life. It was a heavenly experience, seriously. Sitting at a picnic style table, the evening sky with the end-of-summer cool air, listening to rockabilly, and eating such an incredible burger is now a core memory.
