The major pros of this place are that it's open late, it's drive-through, it serves generous portions, and the staff are always kind. The cons: the food is inconsistent (I order the same thing most of the time, and the ingredients can vary a lot), it's more greasy than I prefer, and they serve their food in Styrofoam containers (not good environmentally, but common around here). I'm still a little bit wary of this place since that previous Yelp review where someone found a bolt in their food, but in the realm of late-night drive-through food, this is probably my top pick in Albuquerque. Pro tip: the Smith's down the road has coupons for this place on the back of their receipts for 2-for-1 meals. True rating 1.5 Is it the worst pseudo Mexican food I've ever had? No, but it is close to the worst in Albuquerque. The store is in an old Taco Bell, what's sad is the food from Taco Bell would have been better. Cheese enchilada plate. Two vey large enchiladas with refried beans and rice. Refrieds have to be canned. They are ok, but at the cost of this plate should be better. Rice was rice. The enchiladas, well the cheese inside wasn't even melted, the red sauce was sweet to my taste. I've had better from a can when that was all I could get. Rolled tacos. Beef was ok, but my wife says they taste like those you get at the big box store. The food here is amazing! Portions are great for what you pay, and the meat isn't too fatty. I especially recommend their carnitas. One plate could easily feed 2 people, providing plenty of toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, and even guacamole. It is definitely the most expensive taco shop I've been to, but I dealt with it because of amount of food. They usually take forever to get us food, so don't go if you want fast food timing. Let's keep our service and ambiance expectations realistic, shall we, especially for a 24 hr mexican food place in an old Taco Bell. I'm a Los Angeles native who misses California Street Tacos so I ordered the closest thing I could find, the carne asada. Guac tasted like it had turned. Meat was tough and bland. Tortillas were hard to bite into. Dark red salsa from the salsa bar had the heat I like but really no flavor. Still looking for a sauce similar to Carnitas Michoacan in LA; it is a dark red sauce that is extremely hot with very earthy flavor. If anybody knows where I can find it in ABQ, I will be in your debt! In LA, I would pay 6 bucks for 3 delectable tacos and here it was way more expensive and not good at all. Tried this place out and was disappointed. Ordered the rolled tacos, a regular taco, and an "enchilada" that was covered with canned enchilada sauce.This is NM and you at least have to make good red chile. The guacamole on the rolled tacos was not homemade, and could have also come from a can. Do they make canned guacamole? I don't know, but I imagine it would look and taste a lot like what we got here. I will say that the meat was not too bad, although not very well seasoned,and the salsa was passable. Let's start with a plus and say the food is good. I had the #17 Chile Relleno plate and it met my needs. The service is lacking and very slow and even though it is brand new the interior needs alot of work. I was given a soaking wet yet still dirty serving tray straight from the dishwasher and I sat at a table with vandalism sketched into the wood. They did not change much before they moved into this vacant building and it needs a good renovation. The plus side is the good food and the free chips and salsa. First off; I want to start by saying I live in Rio Rancho and I drive to THIS specific Federico's ever since they opened because of the food and especially their red hot salsa. Yes, I know there's a Federico's in Rio Rancho. I still drive to this one. Their red hot sauce is unmatched and is on point. I get green chile is the thing here, and I love it too, but I do miss a good hot red chile sauce that kicks my pants off. That's what I grew up on! And I've never ever been disappointed with the food I've ordered here. Been here at least 30 times. So much stuff I order is on the menu, but with a twist. Cheese quesadilla in the am for breakfast, but with some bacon in it. Dipped in their red sauce...heavenly! Carne asada chips with guacamole -no beans (a staple of every SoCal Mexican taco shop) are awesome alone but if you don't try the ridiculously great red hot salsa they make, you don't get the full experience. The staff has always been so friendly and helpful, despite my special requests and the food is hot and exactly as ordered. And I've ordered the gamut of their menu, chile rellenos, enchiladas, rolled tacos (amazing) and more....but don't get me started about the rice and beans....they are how I know and remember rice and beans to be. Beans should not be whole beans. That's a NM thing. And that's cool if that's what you want...but I don't. If you are a transplant of SoCal, check this place out.
