The feel is a little off. The seating is a bit strange inside and a bit noisy. The line up to get your drink after you have your cake is a little clunky, not seem less at all. The reason is the the drink is at the other end of the counter at the front. I like the outside seating , who doesn't like a nice patio seat in Vancouver. The puppy cake was recommended and the lemon is the best seller. The lemon is very good, the puppy is great. Just for the record I didn't order it my friend did. Caps are standard fair. What can I say really... I walk by here everyday and decided to stop in one Friday afternoon to grab a coffee to go. It was disappointing for the most part. Service: BLAH. Slow and very Unorganized. Coffee: TERRIBLE. I got an Americano and it just tasted burnt. Low quality coffee at a premium price, no thanks. You can get better coffee at McDonalds! Love this place since they have them where I'm from in Montreal and I've seen them in Paris as well:) cute little place w a French flair. Sometimes the servers have the air of Parisian about them. The decor is quite elegant and a great place to meet ppl as there are tables outside to have a little terrace: coffee and pastry for anyone? The sweets are strategically placed so that when you liner up at the end which is where you enter the shop, you can see people pick up their beautifully designed lattes and colourful array of freshly made macaroons! How alluring is a colourful arrangement of deliciously made little pastries? As you move along the line you will see cute little pasties made in the tiniest sizes w lovely cakes and then the breads and panninis. This is nothing like their Kerrisdale location. This is "we are in downtown now, so we should try to keep up with our competitors here, so let's just try to copy them". And they fail in doing so. Location is all right, I can enjoy a quiet patio in the evening, but there's not a lot of buzz when there's no one else around. The meringue pastry was good, the macarons underwhelming, the espresso drinks just ok. Can someone please hunt down their interior designer and kill him... This is not what a cafe in Paris looks like or should look like. This is what no cafe nowhere should look like. The eclectic interior fails in all senses. Heard this was new so I had to check it out. Got a bunch of coworkers to go on our coffee break. They didn't have any chocolate croissants, but the pistachio croissant was just fresh out of the oven. one of the places that we went back twice to. if we knew the best most authentic croissants outside of paris was a few blocks away from the hotel we would've been there every morning. we discovered them late in our trip and they brought back a lot of great memories. very few places know how to make a real croissants and if someone were to ask me which Canadian city makes the most authentic croissants I would've said Montreal. the first time we took it to go and when the wife handed it to me the first thing I always do is give it a light squeeze. right away it felt like a croissant, firm/springy and after my first bite flaky, it was super flaky. I looked at her and said wow. the second time we sat inside where I could appreciate them even more. they were the right color and size with numerous layers, the outside and inside texture was right and they smelled fantastic. broke them in half and took a whif and smelled fresh baked butter and flour. oh yes! I tried their ham and cheese, the pain au chocolat and of course the traditional and all three were amazing. faubourg is the real deal without flying 5000 miles away. when we walked out and passed the other italian café next to faubourg packed with people drinking coffee and eating muffins and one person a croissant. I thought why, it can't be the prices cause it was a steal for what your getting. felt like yelling or holding up a sign, the best patisserie and café is right next door. imbécile. read more

Picked up a some treats here on the way home and was incredibly disappointed. We've tried macarons before from Thierry and Soirette, both of which were much, MUCH better than the 4 we tried from Faubourg. In comparison, these were bland, overly "crispy", dry and also smaller in size. We also got a chocolate twist pastry. It was semi stale and underwhelming in taste. It was only $3.50 but I would have preferred a Tim Hortons donut to that thing. I also got an orange chocolate mousse. It was OK, maybe even good, but not very impressive. Again, could have found something from Safeway or Urban Fair that was better and cheaper. Overall: this place is mediocre at best but they charge a premium because of the nice branding and say its "authentic". Walk a little further and go to Thierry is my recommendation. read more

Asked for Mediterranean sandwich on baguette instead of disgusting pale ciabatta bread was told they can't do that either. That said... almond croissant is excellent and so is green tea passion fruit desert. Go but don't expect them to go out of their way to please you. Tried a sampling of their macarons and was not very impressed. They had some interesting flavors, strawberry/blackpepper and a grapefruit/rosemary, but the flavors were so subdued that you couldn't have guessed what flavor it was supposed to be. We took a small box home and I forgot one of the flavors, both my wife and I tried a bite of it and could only wildly guess at what it was supposed to be. I don't mind a subtle flavor for a macaron, but it shouldn't be so subtle that it is bland. My favorite of the bunch was their salted caramel one, it had enough salt that it made the caramel actually taste like something, and had a much creamier finish than most of the other ones from the batch. This was not what I expected when I heard it was one of the better spots in Vancouver for these tasty little nibblets of cookie and creme. Not really good enough to go back and give it another try for these, maybe for their other sweets and pastries, though. read more

I so wanted to like this place, as it would be convenient in my life. I pass by here regularly. I have dropped by this cafe three times alone, and once I brought friends. Of my three visits alone, two involved me eating while standing while many tables had clientele that had purchased product that had long ago been consumed and were working away on their computers as though they were in an office. The third time, I was fortunate enough to find an inside seat. While there, I watched many potential customers walk up, survey the environment and choose to leave. I am guessing because it was so noisy and or there was no available seating. I went back these three times, as I liked their croissant well enough and it is directly next door to my physiotherapist at the Fairmont Hotel. Otherwise, I would not have gone back. On the fourth visit, a lazy Sunday with friends, we stopped in to grab a bite and again, there was no place to sit. My friends rated the food a three for quality and value. All of us rate the atmosphere very low and are baffled by the lack of protocol for ejecting a coffee drinker who lingers for hours, which from a business perspective, must be done. So, I asked Paul behind the counter about the protocol for customers who had food and no place to sit when there were 4 tables that were clearly finished some time ago and lingering on computers. He informed me that as long as a patron had purchased any product at all that they are welcome to sit as long as they like, even hours. Okay, so maybe it might be worth staking out a spot early in the day to people watch for a couple of hours for a $5.00 coffee. Ironically, when we walked back by the place 40 minutes later, the prime tables in the sun were still occupied by the same patrons who were there with empty coffee cups were still there, AND so were their empty coffee cups. If nothing else, the staff could take away the dirty dishes. It is not worth getting upset over, by no means, as the product is mediocre, the staff knows little to nothing about the product, the guy making coffee spills it all over the counter with about every third cup so all in all, it is not worth the effort. Especially when there is an abundance of "french pastry" in the area, some with accessible seating and superior products. Summarily 3 stars for the food/coffee, 2 stars for service and staff having a clue, and two stars for lack of seating-train station type environment. read more

The Faubourg Coffee Shop is located on Hornby Street downtown Vancouver, which is right across the street from Vancouver Arts Gallery. My friends took me to there couple times to try a different kind of desserts. The place is nice quiet. The servers were friendly and helpful. The desserts look great and have different presentation. So, I kind of think this place is just under a 4star. If i compare it to other French patisseries, and judging on macaroons... just shy of top notch. It was the texture, a little too chewy. That being said, it still is a French patisserie, they do serve macaroons and other lovely pastries, the decor is tres chic, like so incredibly cute! They make a fabulous espresso. And what impressed me the most: The service! Wow, the 3 gentlemen that were working when I went in were just fabulous! Funny, engaging, helpful. Whomever staffs this location sure knows how to hire and to keep their staff happy. A big 5 stars for service! The other reason I can't possibly give them only 3 stars is that I would hands down rather be at Faubourg then at either of the cafes that flank them. I also love that they have samples of the teas on the counter in little cups so you can smell them! Smelling your loose leaf tea is very important to tea lovers! 2.5 stars. This is a review for their macarons. And FYI, this was my first and only visit to Faubourg. I love macarons and when I saw that they had them, I went in and got myself some. I've tried macarons from several stores and this was not my favourite. The macarons were small and the they weren't as chewy as some of the other places I tried. The Parisian's would be proud. Placed conveniently downtown, over looking the Vancouver Art Gallery, Faubourg is a delicious little taste of Paris in the city. All their delicacies are worth a try, and after each bite, you're bound to fall in love and start dreaming of Paris. The service is great, the price is worth it, and even some of the staff speak French (are you brave enough to parlez-vous francais?). Came here due to their wide selection of macarons. We got a box of 9 and also a green tea mousse cake. The macarons were very inconsistent, like their signature one was soft and delicious but some others tasted like they were hard and made the day before and their flavours need work. For example I could not tell some flavours apart, and lavender earl grey tasted like soap. As for the cake, don't really expect any green tea. There's a wide mixture of different flavours that were very delicious, but stay away if you don't like sour things. Overall pretty good, came out to $26 which is quite pricey. There's one Asian girl with glasses who was super cute and patient, and another taller blonde lady who was pretty rude. Work on your consistency fauborg! read more

Big fan of pastries and very excited to finally try this place out. I'm on a macaron research quest as I'm trying to perfect them at home, so I was looking at them pretty closely. I've had much better. Faubourg macarons were on the small side, and hollow (I can't figure out how to avoid this at home either)! A lot of people think they are meant to be hollow but the cookies really should be filled in the middle, crunchy smooth outer crust and chewy insides. The flavours were quite good however, and the fillings are standard, but solid. But for $2 a pop, I'd suggest going elsewhere for macarons. The pistachio croissant got me all excited but was let down by the breadiness (apologies, don't know how to best describe it) of it. I like a flaky, very buttery croissant and though the outside was very promising, it wasn't quite the quality I had expected. I also took home an almond croissant (my fave) and it was just ok. Coffee was fairly forgettable so I'm going to say it was just ok, as I don't remember it much. Counter service was efficient and it very pretty inside, so a nice option for a lingering chat with a friend. read more

I've heard a lot of hype about Faubourg so I stopped by on a Friday afternoon for a quick coffee and croissant. The coffee (Americano) was relatively flavourless but had a high caffeine content (jitters, anyone?) and the croissant was slightly over cooked but OK. The location (patio) is great for people watching. I don't understand why everyone is talking about this place. Nothing about it is authentic French and I was pretty disappointed that there weren't any French or Parisian staff working there. read more

Came for an early morning breakfast for the Cappuccino and Croissant special, ended up trying but not liking the Almond Twist (a bit too crunchy for me), but LOVING the coconut infused croissant even though there's no filling, but this is definitely one of the best Crossaints I've had, so fresh, so moist in the center, just the right balance of chewiness and flavour. Also bought some of their delicious looking Macarons and Nougat bars to go.. BEST part of this place is the awesome location, right across from the Vancouver Art Gallery, and the FABULOUS interior decor. This is the date place for all you romantic love birds! Great place with amazing service. They helped me with my almond croissants order that I need to bring oversea to my friend once lived in vancouver and missed their signature almond croissants so much. Jipi (forgive me if I got your name wrong) is the kind gentleman helped me. He advised me come back one day before my flight to make sure the almond croissants will still be fresh when they are delivered to my friend even he already packed all of them up in a box. I guess one of the reasons why this is the only place my friend missed after 4 years lived here is the great service. read more

I love the pain au chocolat!! I also tried the macaroon... But It was just Ok because the macaroon was smaller and crunchier than the ones I tried before. The staff was friendly but didn't know very much about the menu. Also I found the light was pretty bright... As I am a local so grabbing something for to go would be a better option for me. Loved this adorable cafe! The decor and succulent sweets were fab! Their pistachio croissant is a must along with the walnut fig bread. The espresso drinks were ok, not bad or best I've ever had either. As a coffee connoisseur I can be pretty critical of the java quality definitely recommend going though! read more

The BEST croissants I have ever tasted, hands down. I love their Mariage Frere tea collection as well. In all honesty, though, their macarons are not that great. But neither are the macarons in Thierry or anywhere else except for the Urban Tea Merchant, because they ship theirs from Paris. Can't beat that! I always come in expecting their service to be terrible because quite a few of them speak with French accents and you expect them to judge you. And true, some of them have made me feel like a casual annoyance for asking for things like a bag or a napkin, but there is this one guy with an Irish accent (I think?) who is really nice and refills your tea as if it's no problem. We discovered this pace as we rambled around downtown in our first evening in Vancouver. The colorful macarons in the display case were beckoning us to come inside to check the rest of the pastries. The desert pastries looked amazing, but we are more of breakfast pastry type of people. We walked further in and spotted the croissants in the basket near the register. And there it was, pistachio croissants! We didn't know such a wonderful creation existed! e We're fans of almond croissants and my hubby is a nut about good pistachio gelato, so our eyes widened as we stared at them. We were happy to find our breakfast spot and we woke up with extra pep knowing that we were going to have breakfast at Faubourg. Unfortunately, they did not have the pistachio croissants the next morning. Boohoo! We tried the almond, chocolate and peach croissants. They were all awesome. I especially loved the almond croissant. It wasn't too sweet and no powered sugar nonsense that you find in many American patisseries. It wasn't too sweet and just the right amount of almond butter filling. What else was amazing about these croissants are that they are not too greasy, considering there are layers of butter that went into these things. They were light and buttery, but no greasy fingers afterwards. We get our croissants from a French boulangerie in the states, but they do not come close to the croissants made by Faubourg. I especially love how you see them being made fresh in the morning, right behind the counter in these big, sleek ovens. We went back the following day, and the pistachio croissants were there! They did not disappoint. I still dream about the almond and pistachio croissants. I also got to try to the croissant sandwich with gruyere cheese, egg, tomato and mushroom on our third visit, which was great. Yup, we went there everyday during our vacation. I loved my time in Vancouver and these croissants are definitely one of the reasons that make me want to travel back there again in the near future. I also loved the interior space - very clean, modern and minimalistic. It's not sit and linger and work on your laptop for hours type of place. Why would you want to? I went here for tea with a friend. The Marco Polo was unexpectedly flavourful, with notes of flowers and sweet fruits that I can't quite name. I kept the tag to order some for home. Service is pretty quick here but I agree with previous comments about the coffee... It could be better. Nice mix of macarons, sandwiches, pastries and croissants. Pastries are generally quite good but their croissants could be better (exterior a little too soft and not as flaky on the inside). Overall and a-okay place in Vancouver city centre, but for coffee alone, I'd go to Caffe Artigiano next door. read more

Delicious desserts and a great cappuccino. It's very busy and can be difficult to get a seat. The interior is very sleek and modern. Unfortunately Faubourg lost points because my boyfriend found a hair in his cake, and when I went up to the counter with the cake and offending hair, the girl at the counter took it, and handed it off to one of the other girls that worked there for her to get a new one without one word to me. It was very nice that we were given another cake for free but we were offered no apology and the girl who initially took the cake from me seemed rather annoyed that I had gone up to her with it. read more
