Though turned away by the name, we ventured in 2 yrs ago and what a prize this is! Open 7a to 3p, a great breakfast, or lunch spot. We ate at Fatty's for an early lunch after visiting the Shipwreck Museum down the way. The food was delicious and the service was very good. Try the mac and cheese burger with the french fries (which were much more than just vectors for taste like your average fry). We also had the crab cake sandwich with onion petals which did not disappoint! All in all, we'd gladly recommend and/or return to Fatty's! read more

Loved this place! It's nothing fancy, but it's yummy, cheap and adorable. We had breakfast here while camping in the dunes. I had a wonderful mimosa with fresh berries. Great local place. The food is great and the chef puts a little love into every dish. The onion "rings" are a must try and don't forget to try the dip that comes with them. I say this because they taste so good without dipping that you may miss out on some pretty tasty dip. The grilled fish & chips was mahi and it was to die for. Excellent food!! But why three stars? Went there for breakfast and while the food was killer, it took about 30 minutes for a bagel with cheese and an omelet. Luckily, we weren't in much of a rush. The next morning we were leaving town and I wanted to get another bagel for the road. Knowing the wait was long I called ahead. Got there about 25 minutes later, went to the counter, and they hadn't even put it in yet. Then told me it would take about 15 minutes, no apology, just blaming other employees for not putting the order in so I left without food. If you aren't in a rush, go here the food is great. This is a very casual place which is perfect for the beach. Cute atmosphere. Lots of things to look at for toddlers. Order at the counter and they bring it to you. Service is not very friendly. This was the best meal we've had on our trip. The shrimp and grits were amazing. It was so flavorful and fresh and it was cooked perfectly. My husband got the family breakfast platter and that was super tasty too. I love how passionate the people who work there are about the menu and the food! 5 of us ate breakfast here this morning. The food, once we got it, was very good. It took about 20 minutes to get breakfast sandwiches. Get the heated cinnamon roll!! There was a lot of confusion in the kitchen even though there were only 2 other tables with customers. Not sure how they manage when it's busy. The staff was apologetic and friendly. read more

From the reviews on Yelp and the local paper this place seemed like a MUST GO! Well my family and I say the opposite of that. We had gone for breakfast and it was not even close to being good. I had ordered and they came back and told my family member that there was only one biscuit left and they gave her a croissant that was cold and tough to get through. The biscuit was cold and the bacon looked like leather. The eggs were an off yellow color and I didn't even eat more than one bite. The food seemed pre cooked and warmed up. We walked across the street to Fatty's for a late breakfast from our hotel in Buxton. It was just after the cut off time for breakfast but the staff agreed to fix us breakfast anyway if we so desired. That was nice. I liked the atmosphere with all the interesting posters and the eclectic background music. Unfortunately we did not enjoy the food. My veggie burger and my friends eggs were over cooked. The home fries were deep fried. I can't understand why some restaurants want to ruin home fries by cooking them that way. I suppose it's a faster way to cook then. The food was just low quality and overpriced. It seems that no matter where you eat on Hatteras Island the food is generally overpriced and mediocre. read more

We make a point to get ice cream at Fatty's every summer. Hershey's ice cream is always good. This summer, though, their hours have been irritatingly inconsistent, to the point that I've lowered my review to 3 star. We checked their posted hours before going to get ice cream the first night of our trip this year and it was advertised open till 10. We got there at 915 and the doors were locked. The nice kids behind the register still let us in since we could pay cash, and said the store closed at 9. That was annoying but we figured they just haven't changed their online ads. However we decided to go get breakfast today at the sister restaurant Fatty's Eats, supposedly open 7-3, and at 9am they were closed. We probably won't be attempting to give them business anymore. read more

What a great spot for a quick breakfast before hitting the beach! Service was speedy and friendly. I had the Apple Crisp French Toast and loved it. No syrup needed when it's topped with caramel. My one complaint was that the crisp wasn't very crispy. My fiancé had a breakfast sandwich on a bagel and home fries. He didn't leave a crumb! 5 stars for breakfast!! Simple menu with limited but excellent options. Got a bagel breakfast sandwich and it was HUGE. Candyland waffle and Mickey pancake were a great treat for the kids. Don't be fooled by the COFFEE sign out front. It's one option of black coffee. No espresso or specialty coffee. Very friendly staff of all ages - I think Santa works here. read more

I've stayed right across the street for the past few years so I'm surprised I haven't tried their breakfast until now. It was awesome! I ordered the biscuits and gravy but they were out of biscuits. The woman at the register recommended I try it over croissants instead. I went with her recommendation and it was delicious. The homefries were delightfully crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, as they should be! I definitely recommend this place for breakfast if you want a laid back beach feel :) read more

Great location right off the highway before the lighthouse. Stopped here in the off season for a quick lunch. You have to order before you sit down where there are hundreds of funny pictures on the wall. I ordered the BBQ sandwich with slaw and it was outstanding. It's not cooked on the spot but thats probably bc it is real slow cooked BBQ pulled pork. The bark had great flavor. My only complaints are that it didnt have a vinegar sauce and the store was quite warm with lots of pesty flies all around. The employee said that the ac would be turned on next week which is probably why the doors were open and the flies were plentiful. Ive also heard rave reviews about their doughnuts but they werent available when I went, only weekends and tourist season. read more
