We were visiting last week OBX, on our last day I grabbed take out from here. My parents had breakfast earlier that day and had a wonderful meal. however our meals were not great. I had the crab cake sandwhich meal. Which comes with chips, but I opted to change from chips to fries. They told me that they were out of crab cakes, then quickly said they were making a fresh one. "I thought how awesome". Well when I got back to our house, I ate about a quarter of the crab cake sandwhich before realizing the crab cake was not done in the middle. Not even close to being cooking properly. I figured they rushed cooking it for me or something. The outer portion was fried crispy but ALL the inside was still "wet batter" basically. I love a good crab cake, but this was not it. Flavor wise it had a little to many spices for my taste, I prefer the crab meat to stand on its on flavors verses putting tons on heavy spices in it. But this could have just been because maybe it was rushed. In addition it was $13.99 for this lunch item. My husband had the fried shrimp plate. The shrimp were large, lightly battered and seasoned nicely, about 10/12 shrimp in the plate. His meal came with fries and slaw(which had red onions, a little over powering for a slaw in my opinion). But the dressing on the slaw was tangy, good and fresh. Shrimp plate was $12.99. Atmosphere was neat, not very loud, had a few T-shirt's and other items for sale at the entrance area. Also had a small bar area. Overall, would not go back for lunch, $31+ for a lunch that we really didn't enjoy and I could not eat mine. Would only do a breakfast here if we did return. read more

We were a party of six, which was large for this eatery. We arrived when there was no line and ordered - standard fare, burgers and hotdogs. We grabbed our drinks and sat at the table. And sat. And sat. After 30 minutes we asked about our order and it turns out that the printer in the kitchen had a malfunction and didn't print our ticket. But neither of the two women who worked there that were serving the other tables that arrived after us stopped to question why we had not gotten the food yet. When we learned our food wasn't even being prepared, we asked them to cancel our order. We then asked if we needed to pay for the drinks (we had not yet paid for the food) and, to add insult to injury, they said yes. Wife and I came here for lunch after climbing Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. If you go here, please know the procedure: (1) walk up to the counter and order, (2) you get a number sign, (3) seat yourself at any table, (4) they bring your food to you, and (5) you walk back to the register to pay at the end. This process seemed to confuse a number of people (including me). We happened to overhear the staff discussing how two of their scheduled people no-call-no-showed. This left them about 30% understaffed on what was probably one of the first busy days of the year (opening day for the lighthouse, coinciding with spring break for a lot of schools). So these guys and gals were hustling to say the least. To be fair, they did warn us that the food would take a while to come out. But when our food finally came, it was everything you could want. We both had burgers, which were perfectly juicy and crispy at the same time. Evidently everyone else in town likes it too because the place was packed. Where to begin, aside from my diarrhea. My husband and 3 children visited Fattys in October while on vacation and to put it simply we will not be going back. Food was sub par but up to expectations from a place like this. Upon entering you immediately realize that very little money is being put into the place. It looks like they are going out of business. Our children ate the food and enjoyed it which felt nice, my husband ate half of his meal and couldn't take another bite. I ate my meal but saw it run out of me 5 hours later. Our youngest child was running around while we were trying to order and ran up a flight of stairs, I went after her only to see what looked like a hoarders home upstairs. This was not the kind of place that made our vacation enjoyable. Instead it's a memory to avoid repeating and I feel you too should skip this place, and take a gamble at another restaurant in Hatteras. read more

Our group of 6 was excited to eat at Fatty's Eatery for breakfast but was redirected to another restaurant by (what seemed to be) the manager, due to staffing issues. Though we were unable to eat breakfast there, we returned later to get ice cream that evening. I wish I asked the girl working (around 8:30-9:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 10th) what her name was because she deserves a shoutout for both her customer service and attention to detail. She had such a positive attitude and allowed us to try a variety of flavors. When we picked our favorites, she asked which one we preferred at the bottom (of our cup or cone) which was thoughtful to ask because it does make a difference! This restaurant was conveniently located across from my hotel but even if it wasn't I'd still stop in for the food and atmosphere. The food was super tasty and fresh. The staff was wonderful and attentive. The prices were reasonable and the walls are papered with humorous memes. Stopped in here on two different days and had a great experience each time! The first day I stopped in for ice cream and was met by a very friendly staff member and the ice cream was great! Our entire family ate here after seeing Hatteras Lighthouse. We got fish sandwich, mac and cheese dog, shrimp PO-boy, shrimp burger, Philly cheesesteak and fried chicken. We pretty much covered the entire menu. By far the fried fish sandwich was the one everybody wish they had ordered! The PO-boy was good but a little on the dry side not very interesting flavors. Very simple, very good, very fast. We did the breakfast 2 mornings so far since its within walking distance of the Lighthouse View Motel. Everything we've gotten has been great. Food is hot on arrival and the staff is extremely friendly. I was especially impressed when one of our party of four wanted poached eggs and they weren't on the menu.
