My girlfriend and I brought our dog to the Mirada beach and had a lovely sunday afternoon. We were looking for a place to eat an early dinner and found Fattoria E Mare in the downtown area of Half Moon Bay. It is a delightful place and one to remember. Sitting outside we found a shady table and were served right away in a very friendly manner. An "Animal Tropica IPA" beer was excellent, as was my girlfriend's sauvignon blanc and we enjoyed their fried calamari appetizer together. So pleasant an experience....... My girlfriend ordered a Pescadero salad (her comments are that the dressing was perfect and quantity correct). I enjoyed a dish with seared scallops with vinagrette salad. Both were exceptionally served and beautifully presented. The service was very polite and helpful. And totally smartly dressed! Altogether a place to return to soon. read more

I had the smallest Cesar salad I have ever seen! The menu said "anchovies--it had one skinny anchovy in it. Came with an egg on top. They use a measure to make sure you don't get too much wine. My son had a smallish dish also (something al limón). We both left still hungry and I spent almost $100. In fairness, I spent money for two Chardonnays because the amount they poured was skimpy. Will never go there again. Wait staff was courteous. read more

Lots of goodness at Fattoria E Mare! Let's go through it all: First of all--you probably need reservations, at least for weekends. That's an annoying thing since basically nothing on their website says reservations. I also searched through the reviews here and didn't really see much mention, so I'll be the one to tell you. I didn't see any online reservation system, so I am also assuming you'll need to call them for reservations. Hopefully they update their content soon to let people know how reservations are preferred. Anyway, we managed to snag a seat at the bar, so we didn't end up having to wait! The food--yummy! We started out with the burrata salad, and it was so good. It came with figs, mint, and balsamic. It also had some flimsy little crispy things, which were good but didn't hold up well to the cheese. But it was still awesome. For entrees, we got the fettuccine and the focaccia alla recca. The fettuccine was amazing! The sauce was so good and it had big chunks of yummy crab. The focaccia was less impressive but still good. I tried to look up what "recca" meant before ordering and got a hit for recca anchovies. Since this is a fish forward place, I figured that made sense, and some salty fish and cheese sounded awesome; however, I learned that this is possibly a misspelling of the traditional name of the dish, focaccia alla recco, which is basically just a focaccia cheese quesadilla. All in all, I enjoyed it, but would not order it again. We finished up with the tiramisu, and it was delicious. Soft and full of coffee flavor. Service was good as well! Overall, a great experience and I'd definitely return (though the long wait to leave HMB afterward does put a damper on returning, ha!). read more

We had the pleasure of meeting Chef Pablo Estrada. He was chatting with the couple on the table next to us when he came to our table and checked on us and also took our orders. We were waiting for our server Carl to return to take our orders but it was a very busy Saturday evening. Our appetisers came really quick which was perfect because we were starving. We had a Caesar salad and Burratta with figs. Both were very delicious and perfectly plated and presented. The servings are not big but just right. The linguini and Pacheri were both Delish. Chef Pablo came back to our table again to see how things are and that's when we had a longer chat and found out that he was the Chef/Owner. It was a very pleasant birthday dinner for me and I enjoyed the food and the service by the owner himself. We will definitely be coming back to this new restaurant. read more

Not many places were open late in this quaint little sea side town. We decided to try this place based on variety of offerings. The menu has full size pictures of some of the menu options. They offer a selection of cold and warm appeizer. A nice selection of salads, pastas and entrees. To start we had the scallops. Large scallops nicely seared with a little salad base. For entrees we picked 2 off the specials, Uni pasta and New York steak. Our server was kind and attentive even though we were dressed more for a casual dining place. Not necessarily a fancy restaurant, but sometimes you do get judged by attire. If you enjoy a cocktail, this place does not disappoint. The wine by the glass list was smaller, but still found a nice red. The bottle list held a larger selection of wines. The remaining pages were full of mezcal, grappa, gin, whisky and several other spirits. They have indoor and outdoor seating read more

Some of the best Italian food I've had in a really long time. The seafood stew ( Cioppino ) was delicious, the pappardelle was phenomenal, and the stuffed chicken was fantastic. The garlic bread with some of the best I've had in a long time, thick and full of flavor. It is a little on the more pricey side, but for a meal like this, it was definitely worth it. We got it as a takeout, and everything was packaged nicely, and we served ourselves very large portions. Highly recommend this place. Honestly, I could drink that seafood stew broth at every meal. read more

What a large spot! They have two dining rooms, outdoor seating, private areas and a bar. We sat in the blue room and there was a large group and the family was allowing the child to run around like it had too much sugar. We ordered an appetizer - shrimp bruschetta. The prawns had the heads and shell on. It made it very hard to enjoy. The still water offered was Voss. We weren't offered tap water and it was $8 for the two of us. I had linguini alla limone and the panna cotta. They weren't anything amazing but it kept us warm on a cold December night. Service was nice. We found parking on the street. With tip, this was a $60 meal. Review #11 of 100 in 2023. read more

Stopped in for the 1st time, glad that we did. The food was fantastic and so was their service. The lemon drop martini was made perfectly. Possibly the best gnocchi in San Mateo, and of course i didnt get a pic. Just trust me. Get the coconut flan, light and airy. Will be back soon read more

How this place got four stars, I have no idea. It's a nice looking restaurant but their pasta dishes were all super salty. The squid ink pasta was undercooked. As you can see by the photo, it doesn't appear very appetizing either. The ink turned my fingers, lips and nails black. I had another person at the table try the dish, and they said it smelled really fishy. Their fussili ala limone was very salty. Their clam chowder was on point. Their tiramisu was acceptable. I gave one star for the soup and dessert and another for their wonderful service (so 2/5) but the entrees were subpar. read more

Took a drive down to Half Moon Bay after a hike I. Pacifica and decided to try this place and YUMMY! It was delightful. Portion size was perfect for lunch. I hate reheating pasta - perfect lunch size portion. I had the watermelon Sandra - really nice pour - perfect size. And the Guancile from the brunch menu. It was SO GOOD. Rich, tasty, but not too heavy. Foccacia and olive oil/balsamic was the perfect side. I sat outside bc I LOVE sitting in the sun. Very friendly service. All in all a terrific place worth stopping. Side note- outside is dog friendly read more

Stopped by for lunch and I am already planning a return visit for dinner later this month. With so many great food options in this area you have to offer really special food to stand out. The pasta was outstanding and the dessert was equally memorable. Great dining experience that exceeded my expectations. read more

We had an absolute disaster of a meal here, food took forever, service was non-existent the restaurant is huge but only 20% was open that night. Ambience nothing special. Decided to get to go for dinner got the Gnocchi with mushrrooms, spinach and a wine/ butter sauce. Tasted amazing but was cold. From the time they brought it to us, and getting it back to hotel was 12 minutes. Should have been at least warm. Potato wedges were yummy and surprisngly hot! Not impressed with burrata cheese salad. Not bad just not our thing. They were out of pannacotta at 430 and open at 4! 3 stars because the main dish was cold and there was no reason why it was. Have to say the best gnocchi we have ever had!! When we visit HMB again we might come back for the gnocci but maybe eating it there it will be hot. read more

I am still in awe of the entire meal. The depth of flavor, the care and thought placed into the plating, the artful decor of the butter lettuce. Let's start with the bread. Freshly baked, warm focaccia, with a hint of sea salt. Their olive oil is purveyed from olive crush right next door (spoiler: make sure you make time to visit olive crush. We LOVE their balsamic). We also ordered the fresh from the farm, butter lettuce, with the most delicious summer peach you can find locally. Then came our spinach fettuccine with a generous helping of crab. The depth of flavor of the sauce and the hint of tiny onions were genius - I loved the texture of the crab and the small onions - soft and crunchy at the same time. The crab was extremely fresh. Ask for their Parmesan - they specifically grate it on their Parmesan wheel which is fresh and a delight. The margherita pizza was also delicious. The star of lunch was the salad and the spinach and crab fettuccine. This is now probably one of my favorite restaurants in all of Bay Area. No joke. PS The interiors transport you to the hills of Italy. Squint and you'll feel like you're no longer in Half Moon Bay read more

There are a number of really good restaurants in HMB but FEM has become our favorite! Chef Pablo and his staff create a very special experience. Last night we were served by Luis. He was great and very accommodating. If you have the opportunity, ask Chef for his wine recommendations. He always has some wines that aren't on the menu. He recommended a 2015 Corte Majoli Amarone della Valpolicella that was excellent! We started with the Caesar Salad and the Spanish Octopus. The Caesar is unique; the dressed greens are served on a super thin bread disk with fresh anchovies and a poached egg. Absolutely delicious. Octopus is one of my favorites and Chef and staff does a great job. The octopus is perfectly charred and served with greens and pureed beans. Then, we had the Cacio e Pepe. Don't miss this deceptively simple dish. The waiter brings over a large hollowed out wheel of parmesan, a small carafe of liquor is lit on fire and poured into the cheese wheel, followed by the hot pasta which is vigorously tossed in the cheese wheel. I've had cacio e pepe at other restaurants and none compares to Fattoria e mare. The ambiance is on the louder side but you can still carry on a conversation. read more

The ambience to the restaurant was very mellow and a bit romantic with the dimmed lighting and small tables lights just enough to illuminate your menu. The service and waitstaff were wonderful. They were very attentive. They filled my water glass and asked my spouse if he wanted another Pinot when they noticed his glass was a bit low. They kept us up to date when our next meal would arrive. We started off with the butter lettuce salad with walnuts, goat cheese slices to the size and thickness of a half dollar and thinly sliced radishes, I believe. The salad was lightly drizzled with a balsamic dressing that wasn't overwhelming and just enough where every leaf veggie was covered. It was quite tasty and we ate everything on the plate with the exception for the radishes...not a fan but I'm sure it was good. I chose their known dish, the Fettuccine with crab meat, tomato cream sauce, basil and nutmeg. I was wondering why they brought me more utensils since I thought it was crab meat on top of my pasta. To my surprise, my meal also came with a a few crab legs to crack. The pasta was cooked al dente and prepared with perfection. It wasn't drenched in the sauce and you could taste the flavor of the nutmeg and basil in the sauce in each noodle with the crab meat. As a lover of seafood, I was a bit disappointed that the crab legs weren't a bit soft or flaky. It seemed a bit dry and some of the legs didn't have much meat in it. On the other hand, my spouse ordered the Grilled Lamb Chops prepared with artichokes, salsify and celery roof purée. It must've been very good because there was nothing left on his plate to eat other than eaten and bare bone chops. We ended our meal with dessert. I could've stayed there all night to have the chocolate lava cake, which would've taken about 18 minutes, the bread pudding, which took a few minutes to warm or bake, the mango cheesecake and all the other desserts offered. I went with my all-time favorite, the tiramisu. This dessert in some places are usually overfilled with coffee or mascarpone or both. This was prepared with just enough mascarpone, cocoa and coffee, where I wouldn't be up for days. We ended our dinner full from our dinner, happy with the friendly waitstaff and satisfied to return again. read more

Everything was so fresh and delicious! Definitely coming back. Samira was awesome and great service!

The service was excellent! We will definitely be back to experience this again. Couldn't give six stars so five will have to do

Service was good. Food was average. Price was on the average-to-high side. They state "pastas are homemade fresh everyday" on their menu, so we decided to try. $26 for Paccheri Rigati with 24-hour baked bolognese, bacon bits, sage leaves. The sauce was good, but too heavy on the cream. I was disappointed the sauce even had cream. I love bolognese, but not fond of cream. The pasta was tough. Based on the quick turnaround, the pasta was not freshly cooked. It may have been made in the morning. Or it may have been cooked "al dente" yesterday. But it was definitely reheated. Not what I was looking for...especially after eating great pasta in Italy back in a October. BUT their deep fried sage leaves were delicious! I'm glad I supported a local business. But I'll stick with the other Italian restaurant down the street. Lastly, the restaurant was clean. However, I suggest they hire a designer to create a more authentic Italian feel with the decor. I wish them all the best. read more

The best thing here is the service, and the service was very good! But the food is just kinda sad and feels dated, lots of "garnishes" that are technically edible but detract from the overall dish. I've been twice now, once during SF restaurant week, the homemade tortellini was grainy and dense, the appetizer was identical to the the side that came with the steak, the desert was like an over done custard on top of a decent panna cotta, and my friends pizza had a sad crackery crust. With multiple decent italian restaurants so close by, skip this one. read more
