Stop number 10 on the Coastal Coffee Trail, almost there! This coffee shop shares a parking lot with Esoteric. Not huge but a parking lot nonetheless! I appreciate this as someone who struggles to parallel park and has anxiety about where I will park! This place is so adorable! I loved the patio and sunflower garden! All the seating was outdoor so keep that in mind. I didn't see many food options aside some biscotti so if you come here it will definitely be for the coffee. The coffee I got was worth it! Great coffee and the syrup (I think I did Caramel) was not overpowering! Cute place to stop a grab a cup of coffee and take some cute selfies! read more

Just have to say we've ordered coffee online from here twice since visiting three months ago and all other coffee pales in comparison. This place is so very very awesome. read more

This is a review for their new roastery on Baltic Ave. It was very pop-up feeling, but they said they'd just opened. Jeff and Lisa were super nice when we dropped in during Small Business Saturday on our trip to Virginia Beach. We talked coffee, and since they are in DC and also my hood every once in a while, we told them the cool things to do in Hyattsville. I'd originally wanted to just drop in for a cup of coffee, but I was SO pleasantly surprised to see a Hario v60 sitting atop a VST-2000B. Aww yeah! So, I ordered a cup of Kenyan coffee and perused the store while waiting. I ended up buying a mason jar of their Kenyopian (Kenyan and Ethiopian blend) to take home. The coffee was delicious and the store is new (opened this past Wednesday). I support great coffee, and I definitely support Fathom. read more

We were disappointed in our coffee from Harvest while doing the Coastal Coffee Trail so we decided to head to Fathom for another coffee. The stag was very friendly and the coffee was great! I love it when you can ask the staff for their favorite drink and they give you a suggestion. I totally forget the name of my drink but it was a caramel vanilla latte with a cold foam on top. It did not disappoint. I also got my mom the cherry hibiscus tea and it was yummy as well. This shop is small but cute and they roast their own beans. Defiantly on the top of the list of coffee places on the trail. read more

This is our second time back to Fathom and we are so happy the Coastal Coffee trail brought us back. The building has a fun industrial vibe and the staff is super nice. The first time we were in a bit of a rush so we bought a bunch of beans and bounced. (The great thing is we then had fathom coffee at home for a few weeks! - love the low acid one). This time we are enjoying a coffee, a book and our dog in the courtyard and it couldn't be a more peaceful way to start a Saturday. Thank you to the Fathom team for supporting the CC trail. The fam and I really needed to make a quick, mid-day coffee run and were not disappointed when we visited Fathom! Finding street parking was surprisingly simple. The staff was incredibly friendly, our order came out quickly, and the coffee was high quality. I wish they had freshly baked goods, but the chocolate croissant I got did soothe my pastry craving. Fathom is also located in a great area to grab a quick coffee and walk around, which is just what we did. read more

This has become our go to spot for matcha. I think we've been back almost everyday since we discovered it a month or so ago. It's not sweetened matcha, which I prefer. I just get mine with vanilla and hazelnut to sweeten it up to my liking. I love that oat milk isn't an additional charge and everything here is so affordable. There's another coffee shop down the road that gets a lot of hype and I'm not really sure why. Their iced lattes are also great! A lot of the coffee shops locally can tend to taste the same, but there's something unique about the taste of their espresso. This place is no frills as a previous reviewer said, but I so appreciate that. All of the staff is super kind and laid back, as is the atmosphere. It's a very tiny in and out kind of place unless you take Ada vantage of the communal courtyard or sit at one of the two or so tables inside. They take their coffee seriously and they have options upon options to prove it. They sell beans, growlers, and more. Overall one of my new fav spots and definitely my fav matcha! - Small (but I also find this to be a positive) + Price can't be beat + Kind staff + Good vibes + Good iced lattes + Fav matcha read more

Fathom Coffee - Iced matcha - no one does it better - Coffee Roasteries Near Me - Virginia Beach, Virginia

TL;DR - Iced Americano is fantastic. Cappuccinos are excellent both hot and iced (summer delight). Prices are higher than most other shops but the quality is the best in the area, hands down. Online ordering is super fast, unlike a lot of other shops. Like...order online and pick up in 5 mins. No 15-30 mins wait like most. __________ After moving to the Oceanfront we were in need of a go-to coffee shop. I was generally a cold brew guy, moderately picky but generally happy with a few of the local places. My wife a cappuccino with soy or oat gal and incredibly picky. First time I went to Fathom, ordered cold brew, they only carry the nitro stuff on tap. I generally don't enjoy the mouthfeel of nitro coffee (save it for the stouts) but I went with it. As expected, not my favorite. It's not bad, just not my thing. Problem is, my wife LOVED her cappuccino with oat. Like...LOVED it. Second or third time we go back, I'm standing in line waiting to order and the guy in front of me orders an iced Americano. I think to myself "the cold brew isn't changing and wife won't stop ordering the oat cap, might as well give the iced Americano a shot. *shrug emoji*" WHOA. ICED AMERICANO. Bold espresso richness but with a clean roast character. Not bitter or burnt like a lot of other shops. I was in love. After that day I never looked back. Fast forward a couple months, weather starts to warm up. By this point we're regulars at the shop and chat with the folks behind the counter quite a bit. One of the ladies recommends trying an iced cappuccino. Wife says "no thanks, the hot oat cap is already perfect, no need to mess with perfection." Weather turns hot so she finally gives the iced oat cap a shot. Game changer. Iced Oat Cap becomes the go-to order. I'm still slaying Iced Americano. The prices keep it from being a daily visit but it's a hell of treat a couple times a week. Wife has tried ordering iced caps at a couple other shops (where she has already vetted and approved of their standard oat/soy cap) but is generally told that they don't have the ability to make them. Apparently a $15 hand-held frother is the tool that sets Fathom apart from these other shops. Either way, their iced cap is a warm weather game changer. If you're here on summer vacation and not sure what to order, this is the one. PRICES: I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that the prices are pretty high. My 16oz iced americano is made with 4 shots of espresso and costs $6+tax & tip. 16oz cappuccino (2 shots) is $6.50++ while the 16oz iced cap (2 shots) is $5.00++. Some other shops in the area charge quite a bit less, especially for the Americano but we keep coming back to Fathom for a reason... BEANS: They have a fun story behind their espresso blend. Owner and their dad tried like 49 different combos of beans and roasts before landing on their espresso blend. It's obviously pretty damn good. I buy the whole bean Colombian Supremo for the french press at home. It's a couple $$ cheaper and really hits the spot. You get a free drip or iced coffee with the purchase of beans. ONLINE ORDERING: Easy. Fast pickup. Usually ready in about 5 mins. A lot of shops are 15-30 mins for online pickup. All that to say, if you're looking for a shop in the area, this is the one. Prices make it tough to visit on the daily but the quality and experience here is what keeps us coming back. They don't have tables inside or much for food so it's definitely more of a grab and go (though they do have a really chill garden patio out back that is shared with Commune and Esoteric if you need to post up for a bit...power outlets are tough to come by). We often get our coffee here then walk across the street to Prosperity bakery for food (and beer/wine). read more

First stop on the coastal coffee trail 2022... Fathom Coffee! My first visit to this quaint coffee spot. I was a bit nervous if I'm being honest- worried the barista wouldn't know about the coffee trail and be able to give me the punch card required etc. However, when I walked in I received a super warm welcome. And when I mentioned I was doing the coffee trail the baristas eyes totally lit up! She was almost as excited about it as I was, and recommended I try the same drink at each spot. Such a great idea! The shop was very small, and only offered coffee. But the variety of coffee and beans for sale was astounding! A coffee menu that looked to be compiled by a globe trotter. I tried the main specialty coffee that has a name I can't pronounce or remember how to spell... started with a "K". It was fantastic! Full bodied and smooth. Loved this little spot, great to grab a quick cuppa'. And again, the staff made this a 5 star experience 100%. read more

Im not a coffee connoisseur at all, BUT I will return a cappuccino if its crap. I can lift a cup and know whether its made right (ask panera bread staff). Yea panera and starbucks don't sell 'true' coffee but meh...ANYWAY...after awful coffee at another store a block away (won't name it but it begins with H) I figured all the 'trail coffee' shops were gonna be overpriced, watered down, bitter yuk; BUT FATHOM? Nope I am proud to give it 5 stars! You will see by my reviews I am not generous with stars . I give fathom my cappuccino stamp of approval! and will even sample their other blends which I never venture out of my comfort zone to do as most cannot even get a cappuccino right! PLUS! Big plus! They support/associated with MILITARY and other great responders! I live close but would drive 20-30 mins for their coffee if I had too! Ok this ended up being a longer review, maybe its the awesome caffeine? read more

Stumbled upon this little roastery and coffee shop in Virginia Beach. It's super cute and has a great industrial vibe, with a very friendly staff. I got their seasonal drink for the summer, the Brown Sugar Spiced Cold Foam Americano and it was soooo good. Not too sweet and the espresso was smooth and delicious! They also serve a wide variety of roasted coffee beans including 100% Kona beans imported from Hawaii! Will definitely return to try some of the Nitro Cold Brew they have on tap. read more

Very cute spot! Small inside shop, however huge beautiful outdoor seating in a back garden area that I believe is shared with the commune. I had family in town that kept talking about pour over coffee so I looked up this spot. Let me tell you, it is absolutely worth it. The choices were endless, the staff was highly knowledgeable and friendly! Definitely stop in for your coffee! They do not offer food but had a few pre packaged items available. However they advised to stop in the commune (right around the corner) or a few other places within walking distance for food. read more

Fathom Coffee is a great addition to the Virginia Beach coffee culture! I've been looking for a locally roasted coffee bean, that fits my pallet, every sense I got stateside from Italy. And, Fathom Coffee has hit the nail on the head, not just with proper roast and an ingenious method of off-gassing their beans, the flavor was spot on (with some grinder adjustments). The Fathom Poseidon Espresso, was very well balanced in terms of flavor. And the customer service at Fathom Coffee...absolutely wonderful. No product has ever reached perfection. Anyone that believes that their product is perfect, is lying to themselves. So, here are a couple possible points for improvement. 1. Espresso is normally without oil. Oil in coffee affects the ability to achieve crema, which is important to most people (not all) in the espresso world. Crema adds to the visual appeal of espresso, but nothing really in terms of flavor, it is just foam, really. The more oil, the less crema. The Poseidon Espresso, contained some oil, so it's a little lighter on the crema. 2. On my normal espresso grind setting of "3.2" using an OXO grinder), Poseidon Espresso came out a little on the lighter side. But after going a little finer than normal, I got the punch to the tastebuds I was looking for. I would have liked to see a little bit more strength in flavor. Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase, and I will be a returning customer! I'm very excited to try more of the Bob Werby creations at Fathom Coffee! Thank you for a great product! read more

Great place! I highly recommend the Ethiopian washed pour over the best! The nitro was on point.

Awesome coffee from a local roaster. They have a new concept brewing equipment that produces small batch coffee. Daily offerings with two types of bean's which is a nice option! The focus is on quality beans not on gimmicky sugar laden drinks. I love this!! Great service! read more

Lovely small coffee place with great seasonal syrups. It is small so expect to sit outside during busy days but the coffee is worth it.

There is no seating. The iced coffee was fine but don't bother going if you want to sit and stay a while, go when you're on a walk and can keep moving. I can't think of a single coffee shop I've ever been to where you couldn't sit down and read a book read more

The nicest staff ever!! Asked for a surprise drink and I got the most delicious lavender honey latte! The perfect little coffee shop!

Great outdoor seating and vibe for the spring/summer. The coffee was average, nothing crazy.

Love the small batch local roaster that values quality over quantity. And it's for a great cause.

If you like GOOD coffee this is the best place to go to in the ocean front / vibe area. Fathom has a large range of coffees from all over the world that are carefully hand roasted. This is my new go to coffee shop in Virginia Beach. The barista was very personable and welcoming and it's in a great location to walk around and enjoy your coffee while admiring the street art all around the neighborhood. The coffee was smooth and tasted great. I also love that they sell their whole bean coffee in mason jars. As a coffee drinker, I usually store my beans at home in mason jars to preserve freshness. I think it's great that they already come packaged this way and it's also much more environmentally friendly than the plastic containers that you usually get from store brand coffee. I will definitely be back to try some other blends. read more

Went there only to check off a location on the Coastal Coffee Trail promotion. But, their coffee and espresso were the best. My wife had an iced almond milk latte which she thoroughly enjoyed.
