Shrimp Po' Boy

A total gem in the heart of South Bend. Food was more than supreme and the cocktails were carefully crafted with care and precision. Highly recommend the grilled carrots, deviled eggs and shrimp po'boy. Sooo many hits that you can miss.

The chicken wings are next level! Carolina Gold is my favorite, but pick yours, they are all great. Tender, not greasy, perfect. Hush puppies are out of this world. If you've never been to visit your Southern grandma, this is how she'd greet you. The margarita's are delicious. A perfect blend of tequila, agave, and cointreau. Lots of great entrees as well. Can't go wrong with any, whether traditional or slightly experimental, they're all good. Great service, great bar, a great night out.

JFC with a side of Mashed Potatoes

For my Southern food connoisseurs, I wouldn't say this is going to hit the spot. For those less familiar, this is probably a great place. The good: You can definitely walk in without a reservation, it was pretty quiet on a Saturday evening. The servers are quick and friendly. I'd also say if there's one food item that was genuinely good, it's the hush puppies. I also enjoyed the mashed potatoes with the skin bits. The meh: The chicken sandwiches are alright, I've had juicier from fast food chains. I got the JFC, which was too large to properly consume. I felt it was trying to do too much with the pork belly in there. The bad: Jambalaya was oddly sweet. Do not order.

Came here on a whim. Vibe is super nice - lots of plants to make me think I'm doing something outdoorsy. Service was great. Menus (like the physical ones) could maybe use some reinvestment to match the vibe. Loved the tables too. Cloth napkins also would be a welcome addition. Food - best part by far. Great fried chicken sandwiches. Mac N cheese also sneaky good. Will come back for sure.

The service is ALWAYS amazing and the food is so good. I'd love more variety or change up but I can't complain when what they do have is so tasty

Wow! FatBird was a refreshing experience. The service was welcoming, and the food from drinks to apps to entrees was unique and delicious. Excited to come back.

I was in town for work, and I when I can, I like to take my students out to lunch or dinner, I gave one of my students choices of places to go, and they picked out fatbird. Service was awesome! Attentive but not overbearing, I also loved the inside! Our food was delicious! We split the deviled eggs, I had the murica chicken sandwich with a side of macaroni, both items were very tasty and savory! I also enjoyed a mezcal cocktail as well, that was smoking with a touch of sweetness All around great experience! Can't wait to go back! If you are in the area, pay them a visit!

This was a really good chicken sandwich. They use the chicken thighs. The breading had a nice crunchy texture. Loved the mashed potatoes too. I was not a fan of the Mac and cheese it had a weird taste to it. Super cute restaurant and decently priced pop was only $2.00!

Such a cute restaurant! I wasn't sure base on the plain exterior, but inside is super cute with a vintage/retro feel to it. We came after the lunch hour was over so it was quiet and the manager was able to easily accommodate our large group. But the best part was the food! Everything had a slightly unique twist to it and it absolutely worked. If you're a chocolate lover, try the chocolate cake if they have it!!

I found The General Deli and Cafe on Yelp and was tempted by the yummy food pictures. Parking is a little complicated and not abundant so be aware of that. The interior of this deli is super cute and cozy - definitely has a hometown, local vibe and would be a good place to sip on a coffee and get some work done on your laptop. The couch chairs are comfy too. They have a small-ish menu, mostly focused on sandwiches. The prices aren't too bad - a bit mid-range. Normally, I would have ordered a cubano sandwich but needed something a little healthier to eat today. I ordered to-go a chicken salad sandwich on a hoagie ($11.50) that comes with a side of potato chips and a pickle. I waited about 10 minutes for it to be ready. They appear to have only two people working so the wait was a little long for the food. I took advantage of the free water that was out and people watched while I ate. Definitely a place for business professionals and friends having a long-awaited catch up. I ate the food at home and enjoyed my meal! The kettle chips are from the Great Lakes Potato Chip Co, which are fancy AND local! The chicken salad sandwich wasn't the best I have ever had (that honor goes to a random cafe in Cody, Wyoming) and was more mayo-y than I prefer. Also kind of a small sandwich tbh. But my meal wasn't badly priced and I hope to come back to try their cubano sandwich soon!

I'm very impressed at the selection of fresh pasta, sauces and desserts. I had a chicken pesto panini which was huge and delicious. I could only eat half of it. But that's ok because I saved room for cannoli which was amazing. There's a lovely spot for outdoor dining as well. I've been on the hunt for a good pesto sandwich and this place lives up to the hype! I placed a to go order online and it was ready in 15 mins. My only suggestion is wrap the Togo sandwiches in foil so they stay warm.

The baked goods are especially very popular and I see their baked goods brought to parties my boyfriend and I go to all the time. I have had some of their Italian cookies before and thought they were quite delectable! But my visit here for lunch in October 2026 was the first time I tried their non-baked goods. The deli/bakery/trattoria is very large inside and was bustling on a Saturday afternoon when we arrived. We put our orders in on one of the 3 kiosks (we didn't know that we could have put in our order with an actual person at the counter - we would have much preferred that, actually) and then we waited about 8 minutes for our names to be called to pick up our meals. I ordered the chef salad with feta cheese ($16), the Macri's Club wrap for my boyfriend ($13), chips for him ($2), and two soft drinks ($2.50 each). I noticed that some of the information in the food description is wrong/missing ingredients when ordering at the kiosks. For instance, I didn't see cheese of any kind listed in the chef salad description so we paid $1.50 extra to add feta. Turns out, it did come with mozarella cheese so we paid $1.50 extra for no reason. Also, I wish they had more than one diet soda option in the fountain drink options. Anyway, the total cost for lunch, after tax, tip, and a weird "service fee" for two people was a whopping $44!!!! Absolutely wild! So the actual food was tasty, I gotta give them that. I really enjoyed my accidentally cheese-heavy salad. I love good 'ol carcinagen-heavy deli meat on my salads so I had a great experience with this chef salad. I personally thought my boyfriend's wrap was a little small but he liked it. The meat inside was very fresh and tender. And of course, the Michigan cherry potato chips are the bomb.com. We finished our food in about 20 minutes and still had a little room left for dessert so we got up and shared a cup of coffee chocolate chip gelato. We tried a few of the flavors before making our choice and this was the flavor we could both agree on to share. However, PLEASE offer gelato in more than one size. It is wild that the only portion size available for gelato costs $8! I know it is good quality gelato, but spending $8 on one size of it is ridiculous. So I'll give Macri's 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. The food was tasty but not $50-total-tasty. And some of the information on the kiosk is incorrect/missing some stuff. I'd definitely come back here, as I'd love to try some of their homemade pastas or pizzas, but would avoid getting any extras or additional products that run up the price. And what in earth was the 1.5% service fee for? Oy vey!

I was short on time and money and felt a wee bit embarrassed to pick up my fancy 2-course lunch in a ratty t-shirt and jeans, but I was brave and strong and got through it the shame. I would like to dine-in here one day, looking nice and spiffy, to fully enjoy the vibes and have a nice date night with my honey. Finding a parking spot was tricky and annoying, even on a weekday, so be advised of that. So I can't speak too much on service with this visit nor how the drinks were (alcohol menu looks pretty nice), but I can talk about the food! So with the $19 restaurant week promotion, I could choose from a list of 5 starters and a list of 5 mains. I got the signature Navarre salad without the gorgonzola cheese and the white basalmic dressing on the side as my starter and the Waldorf chicken salad croissant with potato chips as my main. Chicken salad is a favorite of mine but I HATE when it is goopy and mushy. Gotta have that texture! So the to-go bag was quite light when I picked it up so my fat butt was worried I had paid twenty bucks for two bites of food. Nope! There was a decent amount of food inside. Let's start with the Navarre salad. Normally, this retails for $8. The produce was fresh and the candied walnuts were incredible. I do wish there were more green apples on it though. 8/10. Next, I gotta give a 10/10 to the fabulous potato chips. These were something special. Oh jeez, give me a whole bag of these tasty crispy slices of potatoes! Lastly, I gotta give only 7/10 to the chicken salad croissant. This originally sells for $17. Not a bad score at all, but yeah, this chicken salad was a bit too goopy for me. It tasted flavorful though and the locally-made croissant was great! Overall, I give Cafe Navarre 4.5 stars. I'm going to convince my boyfriend to take me here one day for a nice dinner date so we can try so fancier items on the menu! (But not too fancy - I don't want us blowing a paycheck on some $65 steak! I am a practical bougie lady!)
