Thinking about eating somewhere to catch a game? Try Fatbacks
Rhett B.

Fatback's has been opened for a few years. In the past before I joined Yelp!, I had the pepper jelly BBQ pork sandwich that I picked up and was impressed with it. However, I never came back because at one time, it had only a 2 and half star rating, plus Full Moon BBQ is like my favorite BBQ joint. My brother picked Fatback's for his birthday so we went! Fatback's is in a strip besides Winn Dixie. Some people don't like that about BBQ joints but I have never had trouble with that. The atmosphere looks like a good place to catch a football game as there are a few TV's mounted high on both walls and football schedules below them. My sweet tea was refreshingly sweet and brewed fresh so it was a good start. My entree was the brisket plate with deviled egg potato salad and sweet and smokey beans. I was surprised with how good all of it was. The brisket was tender with a good flavor and they gave me an excellent size portion. No stinginess here! The potato salad tasted like a deviled egg without the egg. Fantastic potato salad! The beans were very impressive....no canned beans here! Just like their name, they were sweet and smokey and never had any beans like them anywhere else. The brisket plate was $15....a good price and excellent size portions. Fatback's have 5 BBQ sauces that you have to request. I liked them all. My favorite was the vinegar. It was made from malt vinegar with some sweetness and spices added to it. But it didn't go well with the brisket. There was a mustard one, which was my least favorite. It was just too mustardy but it was ok. They had a sweet sauce which was ketchup based and my 2nd favorite. Then they had a house BBQ sauce in mild and hot. The house BBQ sauce is a tomatoey, tangy sauce. Where I'm conflicted about Fatback's is that I have heard and seen by some reviews, they charge for BBQ sauce. That automatically gets a star reduction for me. Why should I have to pay for BBQ sauce at a BBQ joint? But they did not charge me for the sauces at least this time. In my opinion, there are a lot of so-so BBQ joints in Dothan. But Fatback's separated themselves from the pack to claim 2nd (behind Full Moon). I will be back and hopefully not charged for BBQ sauce.

First time here and didn't disappoint. The fried steak bites were great and the fries were like grandma use to make. Great service!

The food is good. Service is always amazing! Ambiance is so so but our favorite part is that it's not overly crowded.

We got here just as they opened on Saturday and a few larger parties had just come in. We started…read morewith mozzarella sticks for an appetizer and I had a diet Dr Pepper. Was super excited to see they have that good crushed ice! The mozzarella sticks were hot and fresh and they served them to us with their homemade ranch. My sister and I both got the breadsticks. Mom had a loaded baked potato and my fiance had the pulled pork sandwich lunch special. The good: mom's baked potato with all 3 meats was super good. The chicken was smoky and super tender and moist. Next time we would all probably choose just the chicken. It's a huge portion so have a big appetite if you order this. There's also a large variety of barbecue sauces on the table. We loved the mustard based one. Amanda's sauce is also smoky and a little sweet but super tasty. We didn't try the others. The okay, but I wouldn't say bad: the loaded breadsticks are good but they aren't as good as Mama Rosa's and it all comes down to the crust. Mama Rosa's are softer and cheesier. A little more buttery too. The ones at SJ's were good, but not great and the cheese seemed like it was probably pre shredded and bagged so it didn't melt down too good. No brown/caramelized areas of cheese on top, ya know? The bread was bland and sort of hard. It took a fair bit of sauce and ranch to make it have much of a taste at all because the bread really overpowered the taste of the meat and cheese. The quality of the meat on our breadsticks vs what was on mom's potato was night and day and they were almost the same meats. My fiancé's sandwich was okay but he said it wasn't anything special. We had been here quite a bit in the past for family parties, and I definitely recommend them for those. They have party rooms and great service for those parties. Food quality just seemed a bit less than what I'd had from here before.

Dinner tonight was a mixed bag. The restaurant was very busy, so we had to wait a while despite our…read morereservation. We didn't mind because KCB is such a great place. Our server was great but harried as she had to wait tables on both sides of the restaurant. We started with the trout dip, which was delicious. There was a long delay between appetizer and entrees, but again, busy! I had the snapper Ponchatrain, which was honestly one of the best fish preparations I've ever had! Blackened snapper on a bed of delicious grits with a topping of crab and an amazing sauce made for a spectacularly yummy dish. My husband had a disappointing experience with the country fried steak. The steak was overdone and the breading didn't stick to the steak. Just not at all satisfying. We will be back but will choose our entrees more carefully next time. The food is top notch, but pay careful attention to what you order and you'll be happy with your meal!

It had been far too long since we were here so we decided to make a weekend trip of it and come to…read moreone of our favorite restaurants. We made reservations online and I would highly recommend you do especially for the weekend nights. Their bar area is first come first serve, but we've definitely been there when it is completely full so I wouldn't count on it as a backup plan. It is all street parking in this area and on a busy night. It can be hard to find parking unless you go down a block or two. We started with the okra, french fries and they were delicious! They come with a Sriracha aïoli which gives a little bit of heat, but it balances nicely with these perfectly fried okra fries. It also feels like there's cheese inside of the fried so you get kind of those gooey us along with the okra. Important to note no sliminess! My husband got the steak frites. The steak was definitely thinner than we recall having in the past, but it was perfectly cooked and the seasoning was great. The grits were also really delicious as well, although he wished they would've been just a little bit creamier. I opted for the southern fried steak, which comes on a bed of horseradish mashed potatoes. There were a ton of mashed potatoes on that plate and honestly kind of overwhelmed the steak. But the steak was really tender. I love the breading, although there were certain portions where the breading felt, it was almost too much as it was super crunchy. My husband got the KBC old-fashioned. He always asks for a little bit of cherry juice in his cocktail and the first round, It definitely was more cherry juice than it was liquor. The second one he asked him to just bring the cherry juice in a small container so he could control it and it was much better. I had their peach cocktail and it was absolutely delicious. Very easy to drink, but full of flavor with peach and ginger.
