Stopped here as a celebration dinner for a friend of mine the graduated army flight school. He is now an Apache pilot and I'm very proud of him. It's a huge accomplishment for a man so young. He loves bbq and we picked this restaurant from the smell as we drove past it. Boy o boy did it smell good. The building is really and there was plenty of parking. The interior is nice, attractive and well kept. The ordering process was simple and straight forward. The price was extremely reasonable and much cheaper than I'm used to in Denver. The woman taking my order was about twenty and had such a think southern accent I could barely understand her. lol. The food came in within fifteen minutes and was brought directly to our table. The bulk of our meals were fantastic but here are my complaints. 1. The ribs were a bit too salty. 2. The bbq sauce choices were not especially good. 3. Our meal was delivered minus forks and the sour cream and ranch we ordered. By my third trip to the counter to get missing items, I was mildly annoyed. Food and service was exceptional..1st time visiting..we tried the whiz bang sampler plate which gives all 3 meats(pork,chicken and ribs) with 2 sides a drink a slice of pound cake. I ordered th coleslaw and fried okra ( coleslaw was deemed the best in enterprise and that is no lie.!!) The okra was great. My husband chose the rice which is like a dirty rice but not as spicy with some red pepper) and crispy fries. You get a lot for the price. We didn't finish our plate ( which in my household is a good thing!). We ended up ordering this famous coleslaw and rice to go to have at home. Definitely 10 out of 10. I've visited this place on 3 different occasions and all 3 have been a disappointment. The atmosphere is typical and it is a fairly clean establishment. But the service is unfriendly and not helpful. Despite the glowing review from the Google barbecue critic, I stopped at Hook's after calling to verify there was absolutely no sauce in the building. I received a warm welcome. Placed my order and the sweet girl at the counter smiled and pointed out where the warm sauces were located next to the drinks. She recognized my unique voice. "Whiz Bang" plate includes 4 ribs, ¼ chicken, ¼lb pork, 2 sides, pickles(2 slices), light bread & pound cake. I will not need supper because I ate it all but the pound cake. Previously noted young lady came to the table and wrapped it in plastic wrap to keep it fresh and tasty. All three meats were tasty. All could have stood alone but the sauces were a nice compliment. I preferred the mild & hot mixed. The beans tasted like the ones my Mother used to make. Fries are fries but were fresh & hot. Fresh light bread perfect for sopping. I will comment on the cake later. I was looking for a new BBQ place to try in the Wiregrass. My buddy suggested to drive to Enterprise for Hook's. The building looks really new and is really clean. You order at the counter. I went with the 2 meat combo of pork and ribs with slaw and beans. You are given the choice if you want sauce on your meat. Since they had 3 sauces, I just said I will take it on the side. I tore into the ribs first. The ribs were solid and had a good grill taste to them. They were not fall off the bone but did not give me any trouble chewing them. The pork was soft and had a good smoky flavor to it. There are 3 sauces - mild, sweet, and hot. All seem to be vinegar base but I found the hot to have the most flavor. Overall, I thought the sauces could have been better. By the way, the hot was more like spicy than hot. I chose slaw and beans for my sides. The slaw was chipped. It was in a creamy mayo-vinegar base with a hint of sweetness. The beans seemed to be homemade with pieces of meat mixed in. If they were from a can, they certainly were doctored well. Sweet tea was perfectly sweet! Prices were reasonable and had good value. Hook's is a solid BBQ place. I have been wanting to try Hooks for a while, but each time I was in Enterprise, they were closed (Monday)- which I saw they are now going to be open on Monday starting soon. I got take out to go home to try. I ordered a lb of chopped pork and a full rack of ribs, the cashier asked if I would like the ribs cut apart- I said absolutely. I got the mild and the sweet sauces to try, both were tasty. The ribs were meaty and juicy, the pork was extremely tasty and chopped perfectly. My only criticism would be that it took a while to get my order even though I was the only person ordering at the time (except drive- thru). Overall very pleased. The ribs and pork were better than the chicken which was pretty dry. If they cave me the poud cake it was definitely not worth it. What ingot was something like sweet cornbread. The slice was thinner than a pieceof bread. I would skip that if ever order from there again. read more

This ranch style BBQ pit is good place to go for lunch on the go, or a quick bite when you need one, but I was not satisfied with my order. Yes, the potato I ordered was tender with the exception of a corner of one end. The shredded pork and the cheese seemed sufficient, yet the color was off. I did not get the impression of fresh ingredients. The service was quick. Perhaps if they verified the order before sending it out, they would have not left off the BBQ sauce. Since I was eating in, I got up to find some. What I encountered was a pump urn which must be pumped by hand. In this COVID age, I could not understand why they had three of them, one for each flavor of sauce. I very cautiously got my share of hot BBQ sauce and sat to eat. I was truly disappointed. Great quantity of food probably 6 ribs and 1/4 chicken plus sides. The ribs were not what I expected very rubbery and no smoke ring chicken was very dry. Sides were ok beans could be spiced up, to much like canned pork and beans. The pound cake was good but I got it mixed up with bread on the plate. Stopped in on a Friday afternoon to pick up a gallon of their camp stew. I forgot to call ahead so when they asked if I wanted it hot or cold, I told them whichever way was faster. I didn't care. The girl said cold would take 15 minutes hot would take 25. I said cold was perfect. Many other people ordered and were given food as I sat and waited. Watching the 5 people behind the bar taking orders and walk around with their masks under their noses. They pulled them up and down as they spoke and before taking orders. So if you are a stickler about mask wearing, go somewhere else. 25 minutes later I started checking my watch every couple minutes and the older gentleman saw me a couple times before he went and asked about my soup. He told me they were scooping it up right then. 5 minutes later my gallon of super HOT camp stew was ready. I was a little annoyed but I didn't even say anything. I was just ready to go. It is the best camp stew I have ever purchased anywhere, and I guess it was worth the wait. Next time, I'll definitely remember to call in my order in advance. It's a bit pricier than other locations around but it has more pulled pork in it than anywhere else and no beef. If I could give this negative stars I would. The chicken was tough, the ribs just tasted like boild ribs, the coleslaw was gross and the rice was hard! Then the worst was that for a BBQ restaurant you would think you could count on the BBQ sause but NOPE the sause tasted like ketchup that had a little sugar in it. Food is really good but the manager?? We workout almost everyday and sometimes we walk into the restaurant before 30 minutes to closing and he either puffs or rolls his eyes. Prices are set at a good range considering the amount of food you get. 5 tvs in all and none of them blaring and only one showing sports during NFL playoffs and college basketball, so don't let the previous review throw you off. The smell of smoked meat as you walk in is great. Only issue I had was the cleanliness of the floors. They clean the tables well but the floor under the tables was full of food. First thing we noticed was the mouth watering smell coming from the smoker pits outside the building so we were very excited. I ordered the ribs and they were delicious with the right amount of bark and seasoning, they were a tiny bit dry but the sauce took care of that. We're partial to the vinegar based sauces and all 3 they offer appear to be, so that made us happy campers. The one thing that took me by surprise was their fried okra! It was delicious and perfectly cooked so that it wasn't slimy or oily, which I've had both at other bbq establishments. My daughters tore into the chicken tenders and the smoked chicken was delicious as well. The fries were lackluster and my daughter thinks they for sure need to add Mac and cheese as a side, but I'm pretty sure she could live off a diet of that alone. Beware, when the parking lot is empty at dinner time, there may be an issue. My wife pointed this out to me and she ended up being right. This is the worse BBQ restaurant we have ever eaten at. We tossed their food in the trash and went to a place where the food was edible. Still trying to figure out how anyone could make sauce so bad, dried out chicken, beans out of a can with no effort to dress them up, a child's portion of French fries, to lazy to toast 2 slices of bread better suited for a PB & J and a piece of pound cake my wife spit out. The Styrofoam container added to the overall ambience. A waitress did come by to ask how we liked the food. I told her this place was a one and done and would never be back. The best barbecue in the area. I've never been disappointed with my meal. I especially love the pulled pork! I do wish they had more sides, but I love the choices they do have. Plus the fact that you can choose from a hot or mild sauce and have it served on the meat or on the side makes it very easy for my diabetic hubby to eat here.
