Pulled bbq pork with fried okra and French fries
    Christina W.

This place was recommended by my friend's mom. We stopped in after some shopping in Dothan. The menu said this particular restaurant had been open since 1948, and it definitely showed. The decor was old and dark. The tables and countertops were laminate and it was cracking, faded, and just not inviting. The waitress looked annoyed that we walked in and that she had to serve us. Luckily, she was promptly replaced by a much more pleasant server named Angie. Angie was great. She arrived to take care of us. The food was just not the best. I honestly don't know how they have been in business this long. I order the half chicken. It was dry and I had to keep soaking it in bbq sauce to give it some flavor. The "salad" was out of a bag. The pulled pork looked like it had been drowned and cooked in bbq sauce. You couldn't taste the flavor of the meat, if it had any.

Canned Intro All My Yelps breakdown like this; 2.5 pts =Service, 2.5 pts =Clean 2.5 pts =Food, 2.5 pts =Swagg Grand total= 10 points Here's how Dobb's stacked up 7.5 Pts. So I like real Mom & Pop family recipes-prepped in house not flash frozen. Dobb's definitely lived up too this. An old school atmosphere don't expect to take your Yuppie date here. Guys if your prom date wants to go to Dobb's she is keeper. Yes I will eat here again when I'm back in town!

    Pulled pork was delicious

I don't know how this place could have anything but 5 stars. Was it outdated? Yes. But I felt that was part of the charm. Was there a board on the ceiling? Sure was. But I was there for the food. And it was awesome! Super flavorful. Moist. Just a perfect old school bbq place. The girls working were so sweet. And helpful. Il def be back!

Their combo bbq plate smothered with bbq sauce that didn't taste good at all!!!

.y colleagues andI came here for dinner and we all ordered their combo special. This place was recommended by one of the guys that works at Cairns Army Airfield. To our disappointment, the meal came out smothered in bbq sauce. We couldn't tell the difference between the pork or beef! It supposed to come shredded, nut instead came to us as minced meat. The ribs was wasn't tasty at all! Most of all, the service sucked!!! Both waitresses did not smile one bit and seemed like they hated their job! Oh yeah! The salad wasn't good either. It was just lettuce with a few slivers of carrots. Highly NOT recommended!!!!

Not a fan of this one. We stopped here on the way back from the beach and my stomach wasn't right the rest of the trip. I ordered the pork plate which came with some "camp stew", a roll, and fries. The barbecue was ok, but not really smoky in flavor and the sauce was missing something- I couldn't put my finger on it. I didn't want to eat the camp stew or fries since I didn't know what was in either- probably a lot of flour. The side of green beans I ordered was good! My boyfriend said the mac didn't taste fresh- more like a frozen Stauffers or something. He had the chipped bbq sandwich and liked it, but wasn't in awe. Atmosphere: Our table smelled like cigarette smoke but it could have just been our waitress, and the place was just super old and dirty. The wall next to our table was stained with splatters and the seats at our table had all kinds of crumbs in them. The bathroom felt like a horror movie scene. I wanted to get out fast. Dark, dingy, eek.

    Delapitated business sign.

Each trip I make to the flea market takes me by this staple in the Dothan, Al. community. Over one hundred years, Dobb's has satisfied our insatiable desire for Bar-B-Que. However, rather than being at the top of the heap of BBQ joints, the owners have allowed their name in BBQ to dilapidate. Nothing on earth satisfies a hunger quite like the home style country cooking of a Bar-B-Que pit. It has even been said that the best BBQ is found in some of the worst looking of pits. So, driving into the cracked parking lot and eyeing the half lit sign sent a rush of anticipation of what I may enjoy here. Walking into the panel walled building with it's trophy fish decor showed the history of it all. I started to wonder why the low Yelp ratings. Everything was going well. Our drinks were delivered and order taken in a reasonable amount of time. The lack in sauce choice was the start of it all. There was just one. They have a sort of soup called camp stew which looked like well blended pork and beans with extra onions which resembled baby food consistency, and same with the cole slaw. The collard greens look and tasted like it came from a can. Although everthing tasted well enough, the presentation was just off. During my gander around I noticed the deserts offered and my heart fell. Sysco! Each pie delivered by a food truck, Yuk! What a waste of a hundred year journey. Directly behind Dobbs is a restaurant called Hunts Seafood and Steaks. My speculation is it is perhaps run by relatives of the Dobbs. I will find out when I drive around the BBQ pit to try them. This spot may work in a pinch but, when there is a choice drive on by.

People are nice but the food quality is subpar. It's old and has been around forever but hasn't changed with the times.

Absolutely the worst barbecue in Dothan. The only thing worse than their food is the lack of service.

Was super excited to see they have that good crushed ice! The mozzarella sticks were hot and fresh and they served them to us with their homemade ranch. My sister and I both got the breadsticks. Mom had a loaded baked potato and my fiance had the pulled pork sandwich lunch special. The good: mom's baked potato with all 3 meats was super good. The chicken was smoky and super tender and moist. Next time we would all probably choose just the chicken. It's a huge portion so have a big appetite if you order this. There's also a large variety of barbecue sauces on the table. We loved the mustard based one. Amanda's sauce is also smoky and a little sweet but super tasty. We didn't try the others. The okay, but I wouldn't say bad: the loaded breadsticks are good but they aren't as good as Mama Rosa's and it all comes down to the crust. Mama Rosa's are softer and cheesier. A little more buttery too. The ones at SJ's were good, but not great and the cheese seemed like it was probably pre shredded and bagged so it didn't melt down too good. No brown/caramelized areas of cheese on top, ya know? The bread was bland and sort of hard. It took a fair bit of sauce and ranch to make it have much of a taste at all because the bread really overpowered the taste of the meat and cheese. The quality of the meat on our breadsticks vs what was on mom's potato was night and day and they were almost the same meats. My fiancé's sandwich was okay but he said it wasn't anything special. We had been here quite a bit in the past for family parties, and I definitely recommend them for those. They have party rooms and great service for those parties. Food quality just seemed a bit less than what I'd had from here before.

I had their 1/2 chicken and tried some of the pulled pork too which was also good. Loved the mild bbq sauce the best with the meats.

Our server was great but harried as she had to wait tables on both sides of the restaurant. We started with the trout dip, which was delicious. There was a long delay between appetizer and entrees, but again, busy! I had the snapper Ponchatrain, which was honestly one of the best fish preparations I've ever had! Blackened snapper on a bed of delicious grits with a topping of crab and an amazing sauce made for a spectacularly yummy dish. My husband had a disappointing experience with the country fried steak. The steak was overdone and the breading didn't stick to the steak. Just not at all satisfying. We will be back but will choose our entrees more carefully next time. The food is top notch, but pay careful attention to what you order and you'll be happy with your meal!

We made reservations online and I would highly recommend you do especially for the weekend nights. Their bar area is first come first serve, but we've definitely been there when it is completely full so I wouldn't count on it as a backup plan. It is all street parking in this area and on a busy night. It can be hard to find parking unless you go down a block or two. We started with the okra, french fries and they were delicious! They come with a Sriracha aïoli which gives a little bit of heat, but it balances nicely with these perfectly fried okra fries. It also feels like there's cheese inside of the fried so you get kind of those gooey us along with the okra. Important to note no sliminess! My husband got the steak frites. The steak was definitely thinner than we recall having in the past, but it was perfectly cooked and the seasoning was great. The grits were also really delicious as well, although he wished they would've been just a little bit creamier. I opted for the southern fried steak, which comes on a bed of horseradish mashed potatoes. There were a ton of mashed potatoes on that plate and honestly kind of overwhelmed the steak. But the steak was really tender. I love the breading, although there were certain portions where the breading felt, it was almost too much as it was super crunchy. My husband got the KBC old-fashioned. He always asks for a little bit of cherry juice in his cocktail and the first round, It definitely was more cherry juice than it was liquor. The second one he asked him to just bring the cherry juice in a small container so he could control it and it was much better. I had their peach cocktail and it was absolutely delicious. Very easy to drink, but full of flavor with peach and ginger.
