The depot did a great job at the class reunion that I attended recently. It's a great space for a gathering and they took great care of us! It was so nice to be able to visit with my classmates at the same time that we had a very nice dinner served to us by the staff. Remember the Depo the next time that you have an event they take really good care of you! read more

The Depot - The Depot... PHS 40th class reunion. - New American Near Me - Florala, Alabama

The worst meal and service ever received in the 3 years my husband and I have been going there. Took 30 minutes for our server to acknowledge us and take a drink order. Then we waited another 15 minutes to receive 2 drinks( tea and soda). Waited a hour for our food which was half over cooked and half undercooked. Baked potato was halfway cooked and bacon wrapped asparagus had raw bacon on it while my steak was burned and over salted on one side and the crawfish were overcooked to point couldn't eat half of them. The server couldn't be seen on the floor 90% of the time we were there and it wasn't busy in the restaurant. Absolutely unacceptable!!! When I asked for a to go box she offered a refill on my soda which by that point we were ready to go. Took 10 minutes to get the box so we could go. Manager was having to cook cause she stated the cooks were playing around tonight. Shake my head!! Very disappointed read more

The Depot is a case of really good food and an untrained, intrusive waitstaff.I'm from New Orleans so ordering a po-boy in Alabama is always a gamble but I was pleasantly surprised!! The shrimp were perfectly done and I really enjoyed my late lunch- early dinner. I was a solo that day and no one else was I. The restaurant. The waitress was terrible. She acted as if I was an imposition and removed the lunch selections from the menu as she set the menu on the table. Like that was a make or break for the restaurant. Then She and another employee sat nearby and complained about their job. Ugh... Such a shame. The cook was excellent read more

Good service. Good food. Historical setting. Enjoyable experience. Went on Friday night and had the all you can eat crab legs. They were perfectly prepared. read more

Ate at The Depot recently and while the food was alright, the service was terrible. Our waitress had a large party in addition to us. We were seated and the hostess grabbed our drinks and let us know it would be a bit before our server came by as she was getting the party settled. Our order was taken about 15 minutes later. We were patient as we both have worked in the restaurant industry. My husband ordered the AYCE Crab legs. Our food came out and when the server came back to check on us, my husband requested a refill on his crab. Nearly 45 minutes later the refill still had not arrived and we were ready to go. Our son had long since finished his dinner. The server walked by and asked him if he wanted a refill of crab. He stated he was ready to go and would just like to pay for what he actually received as they had an AYCE option and a pay by the pound option. A few minutes later, a woman who I presume to be a manager came by. She was serving the table next to us but did not give her name or introduce herself, she just walked up to the table and asked what the problem was. We explained that we had been sitting for an hour and a half at this point and we were ready to go. The manager(?) then proceeded to explain to us how the server had a party and they were a server short and down a kitchen guy and that means things take a while. I explained to her that it was obvious that the ordered refill was forgotten and we just we wanted to pay our bill and go. She argued that the server didn't forget but had no answer as to why she asked my husband if he wanted more as he sat with his empty plate. The manager was rude and argumentative and took a situation that was mildly irritating and made it infuriating. She acted like she was doing us a favor by billing us for 2 pounds when actuality the crab consumed was roughly a pound to a pound and a half. The potatoes and sausage served with the boil looked they had been sitting out for about 2 weeks before being served. The approach of the manager was the ultimate issue as her tone and what she conveyed made it sound like we were putting them out even though we went out of our way to be understanding as we have been there. We usually spend weekends in Florala and made The Depot our regular Saturday night date spot but we will be very unlikely to return due to the hostility of the manager in a situation that could have been easily resolved and did not require her intervention. read more

I reserved the depot's event room and catering for 40 people for a family event. Everything was perfect, I received so many compliments from our guests on the venue and the food. We didn't have to worry about a thing, everything was taken care of and all we needed to do was visit and enjoy the great meal. Thank you to the depot for the great service! read more

Service today was amazing. Thank you so much Hayleigh Hudson for such professional and personable service!

I've been wanting to try this place for a while as I've heard good things. Decided to take my son to lunch today and was disappointed. The portion of the meat on the sandwich was quite small and his fries were soggy. I ordered a grilled chicken breast with three sides. The chicken came with a honey mustard sauce on it. If I'd known that I wouldn't have ordered it. The menu just said grilled chicken breast. All three of my sides were good. I had the corn nuggets, fried squash and brussel sprouts. The service was ok. He wasn't friendly at all but did take our order, got it right and brought us our food so there's that. Never cleared the table when we finished anything. Won't be making an effort to go back. read more

PHS Class of 1982 held our 40th class reunion at The Depot for approximately 45. Clay and his staff were accommodating with our program and the venue was perfect. We were able to set up in the morning so we did not have to rush immediately prior to the event. We ordered off the menu and the food was excellent. Highly recommend The Depot for your group events! Just visited The Depot for the first time. The staff was welcoming; the decor was inviting. Ashley our server, was attentive & friendly, the food was served in a timely manner & it was delicious! I ordered The Depot Burger & my husband order the Shrimp & grits. We had two ice teas & dessert all for $60. A little on the expensive side, but we would return none-the-less. read more

The Depot is a new Restaurant in Florala, Alabama! Located in an old Train Station, this place has style and atmosphere. I had the Ribeye Steak Sandwich. It was one of the best I've ever tasted. Such a good marinade. My wife had the Fried Pork Chops and they were very good too. Served with a nice assortment of sides. Affordable prices and a great location. I'm going back soon. read more

The all you can eat crawfish was awesome..I ask the waitress what were the sides cooked in the crawfish and she said sausage and potatoes. I got 2 small pieces of sausage and 2 small potatoes. Paying over $30 for all you can eat you'd think maybe a few more sausage & potatoes. read more

I got the chicken finger meal, with cheese grits, creamed corn, potato salad, and a hush puppy. The food was great, sweet tea was awesome, and the service was very kind. Highly recommend! read more

Stopped by on a motorcycle road trip. Great food and service. Had the fried green tomatoes and the shrimp poboy. So good!! The shrimp were huge and fresh. The fries are hand cut. Prices are very reasonable. This is truly a hidden gem. read more

Quaint old train depot converted to a wonderful restaurant! We attended a quilting retreat at the Lake House at Camillia Palms and enjoyed supper at The Depot. Unfortunately the food has really gone downhill. I used to really enjoy their burgers and fries. Today I was served fries that were dripping in oil and tasted like they were reheated. Luckily the burger was ok but I feel like it was better in the past (tasted fresher). read more

I question the ability of the manager at this restaurant. We got there on a Wednesday night and two of our party of 6 ordered wings. They didn't have wings available. They then ordered the night special smoked chicken. Guess what they were out of chicken. We were the only people there and the waitress said they had only had four people so far. So there wasn't a run on the chicken before we got there. I ordered the fettuccini alfredo with blackened shrimp. It came out cold and the shrimp wasn't blackened. I would recommend not wasting your money on this place. Our waitress was awesome but management needs a lesson on planning and organization. Maybe give the cook some more lessons on cooking. read more

First time here. Great dining experience. Great decor. Great food. In the words of the Terminator, "I'll be back."

This place is a must!! The food is awesome. Hailey is a great waitress. Down home southern cooking at it's finest.

Honestly, The Depot rates 5 stars for their Supper menu - the Surf and Turf was excellent as was the Fried Shrimp dinner. On the other hand, their lunch on Sundays menu rates about a 3 - the meal of hamburgers and curley fries were delicious, and though the fried chicken was good, the roasted potatoes were hard and cold and the chicken and dumplings tasted like they were out of a can, as did the broccoli and rice. read more

Delicious food in a great atmosphere! This place is a gem! We had the best dog gone pork chops in four states. Even our kids wanted more! The sides were every bit as good. The owner came to our table to visit and check on us- and really cared about our experience. Our server was sweet and attentive. It's great that it's on the way to the beach, but I'd drive 40 miles out the way to eat here. Topped off with the first (and best) pecan cobbler I've ever had. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! read more

Wow! Just passing through on vacation and I have to say this is the best restaurant we have found in the south! Absolutely incredible blackened shrimp and fried shrimp. Smoked Tuna Dip was amazing. The sides were perfect with as much attention given to them as everything else. Great staff! Talked with the owner and he was one cool dude! Definitely a must try! if I could leave 0 I would. service is horrible. the wings are nasty and cold. WILL NOT BE BACK!

I agree with the other reviews about the atmosphere being really nice, in a historical building, but the restaurant does need to improve some thing if it is to survive. I know this is a new restaurant that needs to work out some new business kinks as do all new businesses. I went there for lunch, the waitresses were very polite and everything looked clean. Here sure my observations and suggestions; Since the restaurant is new, either have the manager ask how they can improve the overall dining experience or have a suggestion paper with a pen at each table so the owner can read, and possibly implement the suggestions. Have a hard menu for lunch and a hard menu for dinner on rustic looking paper for historical feel ( waitress had to write out menu for each customer or say it out to the customers; unacceptable) waitress should only have to remember special of the day. Have napkins on the table, serve burgers on the lunch menu, serve a 6 ounce steak on the lunch menu, pump in nice soft music to improve the atmosphere of this lovely restaurant, and don't have your kitchen staff play booming rap music that can be heard in the dining area. The restaurant can handle one more long table in the center to fit more guest. Stop serving the cream corn, the corn casserole was delicious and should be a staple of the menu. The French dip was very delicious and would recommend it again, but the plain chicken breast my wife had was not appealing to the eye and vey plain, suggest expanding menu options for lunch. From suggestions I heard from others who visited the restaurant, the menu is sorely lacking that homemade appeal, such as homemade apple pie, key lime pie, homemade corn bread, etc. this restaurant has a lot of potential to be great if some of the suggestions I made are implemented, if not, I feel it will be doomed liked so many other new restaurants. Overall, see for yourself and make your own yelp review. I will go back in a month or two to see if things do improve. read more
