Just passing through Dothan on our way to Destin, FL, and this place caught our eye just as we were feeling like having BBQ. Checked Yelp reviews real quick and decided to turn around and go back and we're really glad we did! I ordered the ribs, fried okra, Mac and cheese. My husband had the pulled pork, potato salad, okra. Everything was excellent including the fresh iced tea. Ribs were good without bbq sauce but never having tried a mustard sauce, I tried it and loved it. The staff was very friendly. My husband was happy the Sunday football game was on. Good Ole southern food, Some of the best barbecue you'll ever put in your mouth. Ribs are absolutely delicious and the chicken is fall off the bone delicious. Got the 6 rib plate with Mac and cheese, fried Okra and a sweet tea all were amazing! The ribs come unsauced and well seasoned packed with lots of flavor, the mac and cheese was homemade and creamy, Okra was freshly fried. The woman who waited on us was punctual and very friendly. read more

Really great stop for AUTHENTIC family owned BBQ and great value. I stopped by on a Sunday, caught part of the Saints game and really enjoyed the barbecue ribs a double order of pulled pork, macaroni and cheese and coleslaw. Two pieces of super fresh white bread. Man was it good. Staff was really friendly. Always checking up on you, you can tell they really cared. I asked my phone about the nearest barbecue place, this one was the highest rated one. I've been going to the Barbecue King since I was a little girl ( 62 now). We grew around the corner on LaSalle Street & my mama knew the family well. I Love the renovation to the building but the exceptional customer service has gone. I went by on Saturday to order 2 Family packs, the owner had her TV next to cash register area & was watching a football game. There was no welcome when I walked in but the young man behind me got her attention( he is a regular) and the addressed him. Anyway, I placed my order of 2family packs with the cashier.& the diverted her attention the football game to say they had no greens. As I placed my order for sides the owner than told the young cashier that family packs were not available, she went back to watching the TV. I asked why the family pack was unavailable and the owner stated she had no more 1/2 chickens. I asked her If she would just replace the half a chicken in the pack w/ a leg quarter & a breast from a dinner meal. She said No!. The other customer( her regular) said he wasn't trying to run her business, but making this exchange in the order would be good customer service. The replied " I dont have to because my meat gonna sell anyway". I was discussed but had promised my husband good bbcue from my old hang out. I ordered two dinner meals, which cost more than the family pack but had less meat. When I ordered my sides the owner than said they had only bake bean and, potato salad & coleslaw; the mac & cheese was sold out as well. PLEASE NOTE the food is still beyond amazing but I can do without the condescending altitude from an owner who doesn't understand the importance of good customer relations. When someone is supporting your business it's not the time flex your perception of your superiority and control. It made everyone in the Babercue King that witnessed our exchange uncomfortable and doubtful of your communities skills and appreciation of the customers that keep your business flourishing! I was stationed here a while ago with the military and am back for a bit to attend a course. Why I never came to this great family-owned and operated restaurant for a phenomenal meal until today is beyond me. The food beats every restaurant this area has offer. Forego using the BBQ sauce because the meat is PACKED with flavor. Go and get you a great meal at Barbecue King. They don't disappoint and the service is great as well. We stopped in passing through Dothan to visit family. The pulled pork sandwich was excellent! You didn't even need sauce, but both of their sauce choices were amazing. I couldn't decide so I dipped in both. The mac n cheese was also fabulous! Staff was friendly and attentive and you can't beat their prices. I would highly recommend!
