Great natural gelato next-door to Antico Roscioli. The mint gelato was our favorite, with lots of pieces of fresh mint. Second favorite was the pistachio. The hazelnut and cherry amarone were also good. Scoops were on the smaller size but the gelato seemed quality. Would come again.

My partner and I often came to Fatamorgana Gelato on our Rome trips since it was just a block away from where we were staying. The place serves a wide selection of gelato, over 50 flavors, and 1/3rds of the gelato selection was vegan! The minimum amount of scoops was 2, with the prices coming out to 3 euros flat; the amount of gelato you get per scoop is a little compared to other gelato shops, but overall the gelato was tasty and cheap. Flavors tried: - Banana with Sesame Seeds - Tiramisu - Lemon (Vegan) - Chocolate (Vegan) - Hazelnut (Vegan)

Really tasty natural gelato. Tried the passionfruit and strawberry creme pat. Lots of flavors to choose from! Wasn't that busy around 8pm after dinner.

The gelato was so good and there were so many flavor options!! The employees are kind and very willing to let customers sample flavors. The shop itself is very cute and colorful. The papaya and all chocolate combinations are amazing!

This was the gelateria located literally across the street from my hotel in Rome. While there certainly a lot of other pluses about Hotel Smeraldo, a gelateria is certainly a big plus, especially during siesta breaks on a hot July afternoon! After unpacking at my hotel I started my Roman holiday stroll with a visit to this gelateria. Not knowing the prestige of the Fatamorgana gelateria chain prior to this visit this store passed the "gelato test": gelato not stacked up high nor excessively stacked up and taking into consideration the seasonal flavors. The store had unusual gelato and sorbet flavors and takes pride in offering lactose-free, egg-free and gluten-free flavors. These are noted as icons next to the signs that describe the flavors. With gelato I opt for either hazelnut or pistachio flavors due to my love of nuts in gelato form. I got a single scoop of the "Bacio del Principe" (Prince's Kiss), which had hazelnut and hazelnut cream (gianduja) with cream. As a gelato it was delicious but the hazelnut flavor was muted compared to my favorite gelato flavor back at home. I'm a sucker for anything hazelnut with chocolate and the bacio candies would've had a stronger hazelnut flavor than this. Luckily this wouldn't be my first experience with this chain. Turns out I went back to another location in the chain with a food tour focusing on Trastevere and had much better luck with a flavor pairing: pistachio and basil/walnut/honey. Your choice of flavor can really make the difference between good, great and exceptional gelato, which I've experienced firsthand when eating gelato across the Italy Big 3 cities.

Basil honey walnut, baklava, and chocolate caramel hazelnut

Amazing!! So many flavors to choose from with a few unique flavors like the Basil one, which was surprisingly delicious and refreshing! The Baklava and Chocolate were both rich and tasty without being overly sweet. Saw this place from Bobby and Giada on Food Network, and I'd definitely second the recommendation.

In the land of gelato, it can be hard to stand out amongst the sea of other gelato shops. But lo and behold, Fatamorgana did just that. during our two weeks in Italy, we had gelato just about every day from a new gelateria, and some of those were incredible. The reason Fatamorgana stood out was the unique flavors offered that I didn't see anywhere else! This place has SOO MANY FLAVORS! It's insane! But the kind employees let you try some and even suggest others to try. Hubby got a boozy whiskey gelato and I had a delicious exotic fruit one (passion fruit, guava, etc). Amazing. This was the only gelateria we returned to during our stay!

excellent gelao shop. so many unique flavors to try, but the true test of the best for me is pistachio. you can see & taste real pistachio pieces, it's the best!

One of the best we found. ESP. In the Jewish Grotto area. Very inventive flavors like peaches & wine, wasabi chocolate, and avocado/lime/wine.

Sweet pistachio flavour

Friendly service and a wide variety. Had the melon gelato and it tasted exactly like a frozen cantaloupe. Delicious.

Hands down the best gelato I have ever had. Creative flavors. It's a "must go to" for gelato in Rome.

A pretty good lunch…read more We were being tourists when it was time for lunch. Our first choice had a table for us but no chairs. We waited a bit but when no four legged solution arrived, we went searching again and found Arancio d'Oro. They were happy to see us and our smiling server did a nice job, at least until it was time for the bill. That went too slow, the opinion of an American tourist who still can't accept the end game for a meal is more likely than not to drag on. My wife declined my wish to have yet another pizza in Rome, so I settled on Rigatoni alla carbonara. In truth it was just ok to me, al dente just seems like another word for undercooked. We left full and ready for an afternoon of doing even more stuff.

This was our go to place in Roma Italy. We went here three times. Each time we had the fried…read moresardines which were absolutely outstanding. think appetizers beer and wine and such satisfying freshness that the pallet says "my I could stay here for an hour or two. " Then order the fresh focaccia for three euros which was amazing. The pizza was outstanding, but the prepared foods are awesome. Best meatballs with Parmesan mashed potatoes I've ever had in my life, and my wife agreed. We could eat a gallon of those potatoes. I also had the fried cod which was very good, and my wife had A sampling of a few different dishes. As for desserts hold on. You gotta hear this. The first time we got the chocolate Panna Cotta and the texture, coolness and sweetness on the tongue was remarkable, never having tasted anything quite so unique. A must try. One of the next nights we got the creme caramel which was absolutely outstanding. The lightest texture with powerful Caramell flavor. After speaking with the owner it turns out there are two, one cooks the other handles front of the house. They own three restaurants and the wife with her little poodle hangs out in the front. The decorations are awesome, The bathrooms clean and tiled beautifully. Both beer and wine selections are excellent. This is off the beaten path but only a block and a half from Augustus' mausoleum. The prices are excellent, the service outstanding, the quality of food fantastic and you do not need a reservation. Did you hear me? A five-star restaurant, with pizza, great desserts, great setting, And you don't need a reservation. Helloooo!

4.4 stars. Love this…read morerestaurant. Location was a bit hard to find. However, service is really good. They move tables outside for us. Everyone is courteous and friendly. Server speak food English and describe each dish we order and explain. When the food arrives, we were surprise with the good quality. Pizza is very crispy. 10€ -4.5 stars- Dough is very different, not like bread, more like crackers. Lots of cheese and meat. Two of us could have order that pizza and feel full. We have salmon carpaccio 10€ -4.2 Stars- and it was a big plate. It is smoke salmon with lemons. Salad with anchovies, tuna and roast pepper were tasty too. 12€ -4.2 stars- A bit too much olive oil. Sparking water 2.5€. No cover charge, like other restaurants in Rome. Overall the drinks at this restaurant is on high side but food quality and food portion is great value. Extra discount from The Fork attract us to this restaurant and it was a good find! They have fresh juice too but we ate tiramisu before dinner so we could eat more sweets.
